09 December - National morning forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Morning. Storm Bram is here and it's likely to cause further problems through the day.
00:05Today we have amber wind warnings in force later on and rain warnings in place this morning over parts of Wales and southwest England,
00:13an area hit recently by a lot of rain. For many areas it's a soggy start, heavy bursts of rain crossing northern England and Scotland.
00:20Also again yellow warnings in place and then the winds continue to strengthen, especially lively today around the coast of Wales and southwest England.
00:28And gusts of 60, 70 miles an hour. But then increasing across northern Ireland through this afternoon, again likely to cause some disruption,
00:36certainly some travel issues. There's a lot of spray and surface water on the roads and then these winds may also cause some power issues.
00:43Now large parts of England, Wales actually brighten up a little bit through this afternoon and it is not going to be cold out there.
00:49All this wet, windy, wild weather from Storm Bram is also quite mild. So temperatures 15, 16 degrees with a bit of brightness this afternoon.
00:57Obviously not feeling all that mild because of the strength of the wind. You can see the wind swirling around the low pressure system.
01:04That is Storm Bram. Look at it intensifying as we go through the day today.
01:09Just to the west of the Republic of Ireland, the iceberg really squeezing together there and the strongest winds coming into northern Ireland through the afternoon,
01:17then into western parts of Scotland during the evening and overnight.
01:20This is the gust graphic. You can see that darker pink zone just tracking into western Scotland through this evening.
01:27That's when the peak of the winds are likely to be in that northwestern corner, 70, 80, perhaps in exposed areas, 90 miles an hour before pushing away to the north
01:37and starting to ease a little bit overnight. But it's still going to be a windy night.
01:40That's why we've got the amber warning in place for the far northwest, gusts of 70 to 80 miles an hour, perhaps in exposed areas, 90 miles an hour.
01:48That is pretty lively, even for this part of the world that regularly gets hit by strong gusts, but likely to cause some disruption.
01:54Power outages along with travel disruption as that wet and windy weather swirls away as Storm Bram exits to the north slowly through the evening and overnight.
02:04The winds will start to ease. Still a blustery, gusty night. Still plenty of showers packing in.
02:09And of course, wherever we've seen flooding through the day today, extra showers will be far from welcome.
02:15It will be quite a mild night. Temperatures mostly holding up at 8, 9, 10 or 11 across parts of the south.
02:21Wednesday is a calming down day, but it's still windy, especially across northern Scotland.
02:26First thing, there'll be further outbreaks of rain here. Plenty of showers packing in initially across northern Ireland, but it should get drier here.
02:32More showers to come through the day in Scotland, but they will whiz through because of the strength of the wind.
02:37A few showers for northern England, but much of the south looking much, much drier tomorrow.
02:42We'll see some sunny spells. Bright and blustery kind of day, really, and not as mild as today,
02:48although these temperatures are still generally a little bit above average for the middle part of December.
02:53Further gusty winds and a bit more rain to come later in the week.
02:57For more on that, you'll want to watch Aidan's full Week Ahead video from Monday afternoon.
03:03That is available on our YouTube channel.
