27 March - National Morning Forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00Morning. It's a bit milder out there for many of us, but it's also a little bit duller.
00:05Certainly for England and Wales, it's quite a damp start to the day.
00:09Thick cloud and outbreaks of rain slowly aging away from Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:14Brighter skies here, but with a few showers already coming into the highlands of Scotland,
00:18and they'll become more frequent as the winds pick up through the day.
00:22The rain and drizzle spread to East Anglia and the Southeast through the morning,
00:25so after a dry start, it'll turn damp here, but much of Wales and Northern England will slowly but surely
00:31turn brighter through the afternoon,
00:33so some sunny spells returning here.
00:35At the same time, the heavier showers will work their way in across Northern Ireland into Central and Southern Scotland
00:40also,
00:41and the winds will continue to strengthen across the far north, bringing a chill here.
00:45Temperature-wise, well, milder than it has been earlier in the week,
00:49and certainly milder than yesterday over eastern parts of England.
00:53In 11, 12, we might even squeak up to 13 Celsius, but further north, we're only looking at highs of
00:587 or 8 Celsius across western Scotland.
01:01Add on that wind, which will strengthen through the day, and it'll feel much closer to freezing,
01:07whereas the wind's only knocking a few degrees off the field further south.
01:11But it will be quite cloudy, and we'll see these outbreaks of rain still edging across parts of the Midlands,
01:17East Anglia and the Southeast well into the evening, taking until around midnight before completely clearing from Kent.
01:22A few showers will follow in behind, but most of England and Wales will have a largely dry night with
01:27lengthy clear spells
01:28until some more showers come into Wales and the southwest later on.
01:31But heavier showers further north, some white mixed in here.
01:34Yes, colder air is moving in, so those showers or the outbreaks of precipitation will be turning increasingly wintry.
01:42Over the hills, the snow, lower levels chiefly will be rain or hail that we see mixed in, but the
01:48wind's continuing to strengthen.
01:49That'll help to keep the temperatures up somewhat, but the colder air is in place,
01:53so temperatures quite widely for a time likely to dip down to 3 or 4 degrees in towns and cities,
01:59and there'll be a frost in rural spots across parts of England and Wales for sure.
02:04So a cold start to the weekend, largely sunny start over eastern England, a few showers in the southwest at
02:09first,
02:10then that band of heavier showery rain with some hill snow, tracks across northern England and Wales before,
02:16ending up across East Anglia and the southeast through the middle of Saturday afternoon.
02:20Brighter skies again follow with some sunny spells, fairly brisk winds, and it's coming down still from the northwest,
02:27so continuing to feed down fairly chilly air, so temperatures on Saturday will be back below average 9 or 10
02:35degrees,
02:35and again, add on the wind, it'll feel quite a bit colder than that.
02:39The weather pattern's remaining pretty changeable.
02:41High pressure is trying to topple in across the southwest as we go through Saturday night,
02:46so largely dry here, but then we're almost on repeat with another low heading its way up towards Iceland.
02:51These weather trends driving south, and the ice bars squidging together,
02:54so again, through Sunday, we'll see some wet and windy weather pushing its way slowly southwards.
03:00For more on that, you'll want to watch the full weekend video with Claire Nazir.
03:04That is available on our YouTube channel.
