00:00Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:02Not quite the calm before the storm, but there is some fine weather to be had on Monday.
00:06But Storm Bram is on the way, particularly through tonight and on Tuesday.
00:12The storm system is brewing steadily down to the southwest, the UK under this cloud here.
00:17This little swirl, that is not Storm Bram.
00:20It's down here developing and intensifying over the next 24 hours as it approaches,
00:25bringing up some warm air and also bringing in the moisture, heavy rain and strong winds associated with Storm Bram.
00:32But ahead of it, many places across southeastern Scotland, northern England, north Wales, dry and bright for the most part.
00:39A few showers coming into parts of the south, quite cloudy here, and showers coming in at times to northern Ireland and western Scotland.
00:45Quite breezy, but the winds, although they'll ease a little bit this evening, are going to be much stronger during the course of tomorrow.
00:52It's quite mild, particularly in the south. Temperatures could squeak into the teens for the north.
00:57High single figures, maybe 10, 11 in one or two places.
01:00Feeling quite pleasant in the sunny spells for the time of year.
01:03It is going to get milder, but it's also going to get a lot wetter and windier.
01:09Here comes the outer edges of that storm system, really packing in the rain,
01:13falling over areas that have already seen a lot of rain throughout the autumn and into December.
01:19And then that rain spreads into northern England, northern Ireland and much of southern Scotland by the time we get to first thing on Tuesday.
01:25And the winds continuing to strengthen, getting very gusty and blustery tonight over parts of Wales and southwest England.
01:33Bringing in the mild air, it won't be a cold night. Temperatures may dip early on across parts of the north, down into single figures.
01:39But by morning time, we're at double figures for most areas, maybe still in single figures across the far north of Scotland.
01:45But as I said, the main focus has to be the wind and the rain.
01:50We're concerned about that rain falling onto very soggy ground, particularly over parts of South Wales and southwest England.
01:56Real threat of further flooding in these areas.
01:59Yellow warnings for wind and rain.
02:02The winds around the coasts of Wales, southwest England, could easily gust 50, 60 miles an hour.
02:07Exposed areas may see gusts of 70 miles an hour.
02:10Rain warning in place over parts of northwest England as it pushes north later in the night.
02:15But there's the storm system brewing, as I said, over the next 12 to 24 hours.
02:19Just moving to the west of the Republic of Ireland.
02:21The iceberg is really squeezing together on its southern flank.
02:24And that's what we're then concerned about during Tuesday.
02:26Those icebergs really pinching together for a time across northern Ireland,
02:30but particularly then into western Scotland during Tuesday evening.
02:34So the rain comes in overnight and then the wind strengthened further tomorrow.
02:39Notice those really strong gusts for a time across the north coast of northern Ireland,
02:43particularly those darker purples getting into there to western parts of Scotland during the evening time
02:49before that storm system continues to pull away on Tuesday night.
02:53Steadily easing through the early hours of Wednesday morning.
02:56Still very strong gusts first thing on Wednesday, but should be easing down as we head through Wednesday.
03:02The warnings then for the winds for Tuesday across northern England, parts of north Wales, northern Ireland.
03:10Gusts again 50, 60 perhaps, particularly for exposed parts of northern Ireland, 70 miles an hour.
03:15The amber warning area focusing on the far northwest of Scotland where gusts of 70 to 80 miles an hour are likely,
03:22perhaps in exposed areas 90 miles an hour.
03:24That is likely to cause some problems.
03:26Disruption to transport, obviously disruption to the ferry services, but the potential also for power issues wherever we've got these strong winds.
03:34There's also a yellow rain warning into parts of central Scotland as that rain moves through.
03:40That's how we start Tuesday then with most areas soggy except the far north of Scotland.
03:44That rain does march northwards, perhaps easing off for a time over central and eastern England.
03:49Maybe not much rain here through the course of the late morning, early afternoon.
03:53And further west, it should turn a bit drier through the day, but notice that's when the strongest winds are coming in around that circulation.
03:59There's storm brown.
04:00There's gusty winds really picking up through the afternoon for northern Ireland, then powering in across Scotland also.
04:07That's when we could have those strongest winds during Tuesday evening in the far northwest.
04:11Some brighter spells will develop during the afternoon.
04:14And look at the temperatures well above the average for the time of year, 15, 16 degrees.
04:18Obviously, it's not going to feel all that pleasant with the strong winds and particularly with that heavy rain through the course of the morning.
04:25As we go through the evening time, I'd say that's where that storm is just going to head to the west of Scotland.
04:30That's when the strongest winds are most likely in that northwestern corner, 70, 80 mile an hour gusts, perhaps 90 mile an hour gusts in some locations.
04:38Still very windy over northern England, north and west Wales at this time as well.
04:42So the issues like to continue through the night, Tuesday and into Wednesday.
04:47Got that double-edged sword really with wind and rain likely to cause problems over the next day or so.
04:52Do keep up to date with the weather warnings.
