00:00I'm Mandy. All my life, I've been the kid of a superhero, but really, I'm like the opposite of my mom, Starfire.
00:08She can fly and shoot starbolts. I can't do any of that.
00:12Now, Blackfire, my evil aunt, shows up and tells me it's time to meet my fate.
00:19So now, I have to battle her for the throne of Tamarin, wherever that is.
00:23And since I'm not my mother, what happens next is going to be totally messed up.
00:30Let's go.
00:32Hey, guys. Welcome back to Inupersis. Once again, this is your host, Nidhi, and today's that could be doing something a little bit different.
00:41Okay, now, if you guys noticed in the past, I've talked about comic books and the state of the industry.
00:47You know, nothing really too deep, but I'm focusing on certain ones that were coming out that look very bad.
00:57You know, you know the usual suspects.
01:00And today, it seems that you have another one to be added to that list.
01:04This one is called, I'm not Starfire.
01:07And before I get into that, I have to say, I mean, at least they are honest, right?
01:14She's not Starfire, and she doesn't look like it.
01:19So I'll give them that it's not Starfire.
01:21Yeah, this new comic.
01:24At first glance, you probably think, okay, what sort of fan fiction, which is this?
01:31And then you're probably looking at how you realize, wait a minute, this isn't fan fiction.
01:36This is actually, this is being distributed by DC Comics, and it's an actual thing being promoted.
01:44And it's not something that you would just find on divine art.
01:50It's an actual thing.
01:53Sad to say, right?
01:54Now, at this point, there really isn't anything much more I can say, other than what I said when I talked about the new others from Marvel that came out last year, or DC's Gotham High.
02:07You know, those were two very incredibly new levels in the industry.
02:15And for some reason, people seem to think that this fad of trying to appeal to a very fringe group of mentally unstable people is going to work for them.
02:31It's not, okay?
02:32Just because, you know, Gotham High and the new ones that a lot of people talking about doesn't mean it's successful.
02:40Okay, just have a lot of people that shit on it.
02:44Okay, that doesn't equal success.
02:46Success is due to buy from sales and ratings.
02:52Alright?
02:53And if you look at the ratings for those TV-verse comics, I have to tell you, it's spoiler alert, it's not good.
03:05Alright?
03:05So, those of you who are trying to defend this as soon as it was popular, it's not in that way you think it is.
03:15Tipped with my view.
03:16The storyline is basically about Starfire's daughter called Manda.
03:23She is this little girl, teenage girl.
03:28She doesn't like her parents because Starfire is a superhero and she's very popular.
03:35And she doesn't really want to be refined by that.
03:38She tries to be the opposite of Starfire.
03:41She dies her hair and she gains weight and she gets fat.
03:45And obnoxious and out-looking.
03:47And she tries to be, you know, basically the opposite of Starfire, you know, to try and make her own identity.
03:55That sort of, you know, cliche stuff.
03:58You know, I'm not going to be what you want, I'm going to do my own thing.
04:03That sort of, cliche teenager type stuff.
04:07Okay?
04:10For some reason, these writers and these publishers, like DC and Marvel's publishers,
04:18they still think these fads are popular.
04:23Even though they weren't really a lot popular to begin with,
04:26and not really a fad at this point,
04:29they still think it's a good way to introduce new characters and new storylines.
04:35And it's not okay.
04:37People are over this.
04:39They don't give a shit about this anymore.
04:41The next thing I said from that is the artwork.
04:46Okay, suffice to say, I don't really like to dig on the artwork when it comes to like this stuff.
04:51But given that this is comic books, right?
04:55These are superheroes, you know, talking about that.
04:59You'd expect them to look like superheroes.
05:02You know, that, you know, the sort of artwork and design that you've been used to from the 90s
05:08or the 80s going back.
05:11And even some of the early 2000s, you know, the characters are well defined
05:17and they look a certain way.
05:19Okay, they were like that for a reason.
05:23You know, they set a standard in the genre of the industry.
05:29Here, it just looks like, okay, they got these fads and then they just go and they
05:36got this artist from Divine Art who does illustrations and fan fiction drawings
05:43and they just put them to do the artwork.
05:46That's what it looks like.
05:48You know, it doesn't look like they have any actual talent working in their, you know,
05:53the designs and drawing these characters and designing these new worlds for these stories.
06:01Like, literally, I'm not saying less to dig on the artists, personally speaking,
06:08because the artists are Yoshi, Yoshitani.
06:11I mean, she's actually a pretty decent artist, all things considered.
06:18If you look at her work, she does some pretty good illustrations, very well-covered and very well-detailed.
06:24But, ideally, those are just the illustrations.
06:30When you look at comic book and superheroes, you don't think of illustrations.
06:33You think of, like, actual, you know, hands-on character designs,
06:39where they have these very distinct features and look to them.
06:46Now, you can see them in the animation, right?
06:49But here, you just have this sort of illustration that made it look like it came from some very cheap person.
06:57And that's the last thing you want to have when it comes to the way you're stuck with this island.
07:04Like, how it looks.
07:05Like, regardless of how it's written and all the shit that they cram in there to sort, like, sell to you.
07:16The way how it's executed, how it's portrayed.
07:20When you have people making fun of your illustration and drawing the characters to make them look
07:27more attractive, more appealing in a way, then you know you've kind of done something wrong.
07:32Okay, just saying, I can't help but think like, okay, people, random people on the internet
07:38could actually do a better job than this.
07:41So, why can't the people who are actually working for these publishers do a better job?
07:47This is where it actually starts to get really clear and explain everything.
07:52Okay, when you actually look up the people who are writing the story, then so they use new comics,
07:59these new writers, and you see what they look like.
08:02Then you know, that explains everything.
08:05Like, it makes sense that this type of person would write that and why these comics are the way it is.
08:13You know, when you look at the writer for this one,
08:16she's literally the girl in the story.
08:20You know, there's something you're a girl, except she's actually 45 years old.
08:25She's an old lady, she's single, you know, she's not married, she's single, she doesn't have no kids.
08:31And you know, at that age, it's usually a sign of very poor decisions, to put it lightly.
08:39You know, she basically inserted herself into a story to sort of like basically make herself out to be
08:48like this new hero icon for this younger generation.
08:55And it's not working because stylus people don't like this.
09:00You know, this new generation of comic writers, they try to say,
09:03or they want to tell stories and, you know, make these characters represent people in the real world today.
09:11And the people in the real world don't really think like this.
09:15You know, I mean, maybe if you go to like certain places, to be specific,
09:19you can find people like this.
09:20But in general speaking, women don't really think like this.
09:25You know, they're not short, fat, absaki, and have died here.
09:29And they're sort of like moody emotions and rebellious ways.
09:36I mean, that's a certain minority of women you're targeting.
09:41And they're probably more likely not going to buy this into this because they're not
09:47comic book oriented people.
09:50So you already feel on that front,
09:53hiring someone who basically ensue yourself into the comic and trying to appeal to people who
10:01don't even care about the shit ideas spending its money on to produce.
10:05It goes to show to you, you know, in the grandest key of things,
10:09why manga is flourishing right now compared to American comics.
10:14Because in manga, well, mostly, generally speaking, in manga,
10:21the writers aren't doing all this sort of crazy, you know, pandering,
10:29and these, you know, worthy political SJW themes putting into their stories,
10:37or they're doing how the characters look.
10:40And if you've seen manga, you know that they have their characters look a certain way.
10:46That's one thing.
10:47They also have them very exaggerated.
10:51We know that for sure.
10:53The whole category is tsundere is all that type of stuff.
10:56They do it because it works.
10:58It's what the people like to see in their mangas.
11:01That's why mangas work.
11:03And that's why it's getting more popular,
11:04because more and more people who are watching American comics,
11:07and come across in manga, doing all this cool stuff.
11:10And they're like, oh, well, this is actually interesting.
11:13And this goes to show you, like, why manga is the future,
11:17and how a single manga seer can literally outsell an entire industry
11:24in just a short of two years.
11:28Okay, this is why.
11:31It's right here.
11:32And this whole time you're like sitting on here wondering,
11:35but what is that manga does that American comics does now?
11:41And the answer to that question is pretty simple.
11:44Manga, it actually still presents interesting, entertaining stories to the reader.
11:52It's not trying to push propaganda on them or sell them some sort of fan that doesn't exist anymore
12:04and most importantly doesn't have the writers inserting themselves into a storyline to make them
12:10look like some sort of icon or something like that, you know, virtue signal and preach to the masses.
12:19Okay, you don't see that in manga unless you're like looking for it.
12:23You don't see it generally speaking in manga.
12:26And that's why more and more people are going towards that because they're fed up of scenes in American comics.
12:33You know, it's like basic businesses 101.
12:37Like if you don't find something here, you go somewhere else to get it.
12:42And that's what we've been seeing this whole time.
12:46And from the looks of it, it seems that we're going to continue to see more of this down the road.
12:52Unless if these publishers start hiring actual writers and actual artists again.
13:01But that is my take on it though.
13:04Now, let me know what you guys think in the comment section below, however.
13:08This I'm not Starfire comic, what do you guys think about it?
13:14Do you think it looks good? Do you think it looks bad?
13:17Now, what's your thoughts on the American comic industry in general?
13:22And what do you think about mangas in comparison?
13:26Let me know in the comment section below and be sure to check out my other videos.
13:29And I guess I'll see you guys later.
