07:44No time you walk in and you should feel a sense of, oh, I'm here to learn maths, English, football,
07:50basketball, extracurriculum.
07:52That is what this school is about.
07:53And we need to be very serious with young people because the other young people who are looking on will
07:58understand their consequences for their action.
08:01Now, speaking of persons who are putting in that hard work, we saw officers, I think approximately eight officers, that
08:06were promoted.
08:07And we need to celebrate them, of course, with the hard work that they have put in.
08:11Oh, yes, I know some of these officers very well.
08:14They have been very instrumental, very, very instrumental in my development.

12:03And this that we saw here today was so gruesome because it shows the level of the gang members,
12:12maybe all the persons who are committing these hits,
12:14that they want to send a serious, gruesome message to everyone.
12:19Every shot was headshots where you cannot make out the person's face.
12:25Even the shots on the body, their limbs fly.
12:28It was disgusting.
12:29We could even just even give a disclaimer.
12:32Because the level of gruesome killings that we witness, especially this one, people are families.

12:42I had a discussion with Pastor Dutton today.

12:46And that man has brought a different trend to the fight against crime, a spiritual component.
12:53You see, don't feel there's something physical going on here.
12:55Don't feel there's something just on the surface that is just drugs.
12:58It is an evil element to this criminal activity.
13:02And if we move away the criminal element, then we will always be surprised.
13:05But the devil has taken over certain communities.
13:08The devil has taken over certain individuals.
13:10They are now servants of the devil.
13:13They don't see you as a human being anymore.

13:16In a sense of when they're on the role and they get instructions.

13:22Now, apart from any Portospin area, we're seeing that shooting incident.

13:30Now, it's alleged two persons were shot and killed during a confrontation with police officers.

13:37Persons will have their story, the officers will have theirs, and then there's the truth.
13:41But at the end of the day, officers are not just going after individuals to take lives, innocent lives.

13:51You see, the commissioner is on record asking people for those who have information, those who are, that can help.
13:57Bring it forward.
13:58Bring it forward to officers who you trust.
14:00Bring it forward to officers who will be able to assist as they go on conducting the investigation.
14:05So the public has a responsibility as well to bring evidence or information that can be helpful to the form.
14:11People have been doing that.
14:12People have been doing it quietly, circumspect, inconspicuous in terms of providing information.
14:19Maloney, I have to applaud Maloney because Maloney, over a while, has been very, very quiet.
14:23But some people are not happy with that.
14:25No, they don't.
14:26Some people, and that's why we have to make them out.

15:24The hard-fighting crime, leave it for the specialized unit, leave it for the soldiers and police who are more
15:30tactful in terms of addressing that crime.
15:33But I call on the community to rise up.

15:36Do not be intimidated by the few that are trying to hold the community at ransom.

15:42Have your football.
15:43Have your Neighborhood Watch Groups.
15:44Have your little sport in.
15:46Don't allow them to have you locked in your home, given the intention that you're living under fear.

21:30We want to applaud the level of intelligence.
21:32And we certainly want to applaud persons who continue to work in concert with the police to ensure that we
21:38have a safe community.

21:41It is a task like a parent.
21:42You have three children, and you have to grow up your three children.
21:45And you have to grow them up in a way that is law-abiding.
21:48You have one misbehaving, you raise special attention, the other one.
21:51We have a community to run.

21:54We have to get the drugs off, get the guns off.
21:57You know, and that is just the unfortunate challenges that we have.

36:13which was the Resilient Youth Programme at Erasmusen.
36:17Oh, that was a beautiful program.
36:20I was honored to be in part of the whole concept of developing the resilient youth.
36:26And when you say resilient, you can understand the young people that we are targeting.
36:30Even those who are fighting.
36:32Yes.

36:33Those are the young people we need to target.
36:34And it was launched.
36:35Well, you know, it was under the auspices of the Homeland Security and Sergeant Ali,
36:39and also a member of our absolutely special psychosocial team that the police service,
36:46along with the prisoners and other non-state actors are part of.

36:49And the objective is to ensure that we look at the character of the youth and develop that particular character.
36:57And one of the characters we look at is being resilient.
37:01You could talk what you're running, you could go up the mountain, go down the hill,
37:04but when we develop a resilient youth, they would not take drugs.
37:07They would not be involved in gangs.
37:09Stand strong.
37:09Yes, they would stand.
37:10So that it is our interest that as we go into schools,
37:15and I understand that next week we have a lot of schools to go in,
37:18that we will be especially focusing on the fact of what makes you resilient,
37:22what makes you strong.
37:23Okay, they come from a toxic environment.
37:25They come from a dysfunctional home.
37:26And if that was not wrong, we are saying be resilient.
37:29We are saying to center yourself around positive people.
37:33Think positive things so that your whole atmosphere,
37:36your whole behavior will show that you're resilient.

37:40it requires a certain type of youth to succeed now.

40:57because they are great officers out there, including yourself, and we can't not acknowledge those great officers.

53:05It is based on restructuring the thinking of the individual, right?
53:10Social skills and problem-solving skills.
53:13It helps to build character of self-control and temperance with intentionality.
53:19It speaks to the own aspect.
53:21It speaks to the own aspect.
53:22It speaks to the character, right?
53:23Teaching them that loving what is right, doing what is right, right?
53:28Across any situation.
53:29So you become the source of your thoughts.
53:32You change your own thinking pattern.
53:34It leads you to the 10th sector developing 10th productive attitude.
53:38Teach them out of back, right, their negative attitude and the life, right?
53:43So I think that would really embellish your resilience theme, right?
53:49Remember, Thinking for a Change is one of the seven cognitive behavior interventions used for your people
53:57that develop that level of resistance, that level of pro-social thinking attitude and behavior.

55:24up somewhere and throw away the key, and there are persons who are saying, no, you can't do that.

55:33I think by 30 something years with young people, it is not a case of just throwing away the key
55:39and throwing them off.
55:41There are factors that contribute to young people and their behavior.

55:46And we need to get to the factors.
55:48That's why Mr. Benjamin was on point when he talked, let us deal with the root of the problem.
55:53Children are a ward of society.
55:57They have parents.
55:58Parents must be made to account.
56:01It is part of a package.
56:03You cannot be calling yourself a parent and don't want to account for your child.

56:06We are quite aware that there are factors that will allow children to be impacted upon other external and all

56:17What we need to do, we need to become professionals.

56:45Most of these boys know our father.
56:47They have a proper mentor in their life.
56:48And they are a reflection too of the adults.
56:50So, if you're telling me young people are violent, then look closer in the mirror.
56:55The adults are also bad actors.
56:57And the adults should feel shame because we have passed on that kind of violence.
57:01And you mentioned that because yesterday we showed a video with adults, grown adults,
57:05behaving in a manner that we're seeing our young people behaving as well.
57:09And we have to take accountability in the way in which we carry ourselves at the highest office
57:15and those who just in public that we say on the ground.

57:19So, they watch us and say, well, if you're doing it, I could do it too.
