00:00I have a feeling we don't have to tell this trick-or-treater the rules of Halloween.
00:03Here's your spooky spot on the neck of toys, Ben Cooper, Trick-or-Treats, Sam.
00:30Celebrate Halloween all year long with NECA.
00:32The next series in the Ben Cooper Costume Kids Collection is here.
00:35Based on popular kids' costumes, one of the largest Halloween manufacturers from the 1950s through the 80s.
00:40Standing approximately six inches tall, these fully posable figures wonderfully capture the vintage horror spirit
00:46and already make some spooky mischief on your collector's shelf.
00:49The set includes NECA's own designs in the style of Ben Cooper costumes, as if they were produced today.
00:54Worn by an inclusive group of kids, inspired by the famous horror movies,
00:57these all-new costume designs include Nosferatu's Count Orlok, House of a Thousand Corpses' Captain Spaulding,
01:03Thanksgiving's John Carver, Trick-or-Treats, Sam, and Krampus.
01:06Laying out all his trick-or-treating route and making sure he leaves Mr. Krieg's house for last.
01:09Before that, we get a closer look at the NECA toys, Ben Cooper Collection, Trick-or-Treats, Sam.
01:14We're going to clock this guy in by taking the tape measure and seeing how tall the figure stands.
01:17This now is clocking in the third figure that we've looked at from Ben Cooper from kind of sporadic different waves.
01:22I've looked already at the Michael Myers, and we've also looked at Leatherface,
01:25both of which we will be bringing in in a second.
01:28First things first, though, the tape measure is going to tell us that Ben Cooper's Trick-or-Treats, Sam,
01:32is going to stand at five and a half inches in height, working out to be a figure that's 14 centimeters tall.
01:37Sure seems like I'm being selectful when it comes to picking the Ben Cooper kids.
01:40In fact, actually, Trick-or-Treats, Sam, has come to us from Ben Cooper Wave 4,
01:44yet the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Leatherface and the Halloween 2's Michael Myers
01:47is jumping way ahead of that by being released in Wave 9.
01:51Yeah, you could point the finger at me and fault me as being the reason
01:53why we're not looking at more of these on the channel, and you would be right.
01:56The problem with that, though, is like NECA's turning these out at an alarming rate and super fast.
02:00The cost of producing these, I would imagine, wouldn't be all that high.
02:03The bodies are really relatively all the same.
02:05Yeah, maybe they change the sneakers, they change the skin tone, they change the head sculpts,
02:09but the cost of producing these, I think, stem more from having to produce brand new masks
02:13and, of course, the soft goods costumes that all the kids are wearing.
02:16Speaking of wearing, Trick-or-Treats, Sam, might actually mark the first Ben Cooper kid
02:20that has a swappable mask, so we sort of get the chance to see what he looks like under the hood.
02:24Before we do that, though, one of the accessories, though, that come include with the figure
02:28is he does come with a trick-or-treating pail.
02:30Somewhat, though, similar to what we got with the Michael Myers,
02:32not so similar, obviously, with the face, but the idea that they actually carry around buckets,
02:36not so much bags.
02:37Leatherface, for example, I just happen to have it on the ready,
02:40came actually included with a little bag, so I do like the fact that they kind of mix and match these,
02:44that they don't all have to have bags, they don't all have to have boo buckets.
02:47But the boo bucket, though, I mean, does look like the pumpkin that we actually see in the film.
02:51I would think, though, really bad choicing on his part.
02:54He makes him, he actually comes with a bucket that doesn't have a large enough hole
02:58that he can't get his hand into.
03:00I mean, if you look at his hand and you look at the hole,
03:02he can barely reach inside, and about all the best he's going to be able to reach out
03:06are those blasted molasses candies.
03:08Seriously, who's buying those molasses candies?
03:11The bucket can, though, be fit in his hand.
03:12He actually does have gripping hands here and over here,
03:15so he can take the bucket, and we just kind of widen the hands at least enough
03:20so I can get the handle in there.
03:21I had the beginning of this review, and I'm actually holding it with both his hands.
03:25But one of the benefits, though, is that Sam does also come with a secondary accessory, too.
03:28So you can have the bucket on one side, and then you can have the following accessory,
03:32providing, of course, he stands on the other side.
03:34He does have his lollipop.
03:36How about that?
03:36Chomped away a bit, though, so he's ready to slice that girl's neck.
03:40But a really nice little representation of the lollipop that he has in the film,
03:44which, again, you can take that and fit into his other hand.
03:47The handle is a bit large on the lollipop side,
03:50but, again, I think it's probably a better idea than they did that with a very narrow handle,
03:53because that would be most likely to be broken.
03:55What's really cool, though, about Sam is the fact he does actually have a secondary mask.
03:59First time.
04:00First time, at least, that we've looked at here,
04:02where Ben Cooper kid has actually come with a second mask.
04:05So it's kind of cool, though, because you can actually see what the face looks like underneath.
04:08It is hilarious.
04:10Let's go ahead and take at least a bucket off right now.
04:13We'll remove as well the lollipop.
04:14We'll put that off to the side.
04:15I guess before we show the reveal,
04:17I want to show you guys what the mask looks like when you get this guy first out of the packaging.
04:20Like in the film, though, we first see what he looks like with a burlap sack mask.
04:23Sewn-on buttons.
04:25Sewn-on at least enough that it can't block his vision.
04:27I mean, one of the crucial things about coming up with a Halloween costume
04:29is you have to make yourself visible, being able to see, again, where you're going.
04:33I mean, if you're walking late at night,
04:35you want to make sure that you have full visibility
04:37in case cars are coming through.
04:38You don't want to get hit.
04:41You don't want to get Ben Tramered on trick-or-treating nights.
04:43The mask looks good.
04:44I think they've done a nice job of that.
04:46Still, you've got the strap on the back of the head.
04:47Normally, I would say you can't take the mask off,
04:50which you can actually do at this time with Sam.
04:52For the rest of his Halloween costume,
04:53it looks very much like what you would expect to see
04:54from an 80s Ben Cooper costume kid's costume.
04:58Boy, that's a lot of costumes.
04:59I probably said that a lot more than I needed.
05:01What I like about, though, is it's not supposed to look like the footy onesie pajamas
05:06that Sam does have in the movie.
05:08What it's supposed to look like, it's literally supposed to be a picture of the character.
05:12So like what we got, though, with the Halloween 2 Michael Myers,
05:15Michael Myers, in his right mind, would never walk the streets
05:17with a literal picture of himself on the costume.
05:20And that's the whole coolness about Ben Cooper.
05:22I mean, yeah, sure, when we looked at Leatherface,
05:24I'm just going to bring him in right now.
05:26Leatherface, though, had the apron.
05:27He had the striped shirt.
05:28So it looked more, he didn't walk around with Bubba's face on his front.
05:31But at least, though, it looked a little bit more like what we got from the 74 film.
05:35I personally like this.
05:36I think the color choices that they went with is really cool.
05:38I mean, you got the black for the top.
05:39You still sort of have the footed pajamas down below here.
05:42This is made kind of more of a, like a nylon material.
05:46So, you know, again, like longevity of this, I would still worry over time.
05:49Maybe this would eventually start to split and crack.
05:51But for right now, at least, I can enjoy this.
05:53There's a Velcro closure still in the back.
05:55So I guess if you really wanted to, you could take this off.
05:58Why?
05:58I don't know why you'd really want to take this off.
06:00But I guess you could if you wanted to.
06:01I guess let's just say, I mean, maybe the figure gets broken underneath,
06:05like something breaks in the shoulders and you have to buy yourself a replacement.
06:08And a Sam is maybe hard to find at the time.
06:10If you have like a cheap Michael Myers, for example,
06:13I suppose, I guess that would be a hard thing to do because you'd have to still pop and swap the head out.
06:17But the skin tone, I guess, is close enough.
06:19You'd pop the head, replace the bodies.
06:21And that's probably one of the reasons why maybe having a Velcro closure on the back would be the easiest thing to do.
06:26Sneaker-wise, I mean, he does.
06:28I mean, you guys, I guess he has pretty good looking sneakers.
06:30Sam would never in his right mind ever have sneakers.
06:32He generally, again, likes his footed pajamas.
06:35They're similar, similar to Michael Myers.
06:38I mean, again, like if you're looking at the two,
06:40I'd be hard pressed not to say that they're the exact same.
06:43Other than Sam's, it's just a different colored sole on the bottom.
06:46There's, again, speaking of the bottoms, there are two holes on the bottoms of these.
06:49So, again, you can use display stands, even though they don't come included with them.
06:52Yeah, all in all, it's just a really neat looking Sam.
06:55Again, most of the decorative details are all done to the front.
06:58On the back of this, it's completely orange.
07:00But I think that's pretty close to the way the Ben Cooper costumes were in the 50s to the 80s.
07:04Now, here's the fun thing, though, about this, is the figure does actually have a swappable mask.
07:09So, like in the film, you do actually have yourself a reveal.
07:11So, if you don't like necessarily the burlap sack mask,
07:14you can put in favor of that the jack-o-lantern face that he has underneath.
07:17Here's the thing that I find the funniest about this,
07:20is when you actually take off the face,
07:22you see what it actually would have looked like underneath.
07:24This would always be like a mystery that I was hoping to solve.
07:27What exactly do the faces look like underneath when you get the chance?
07:31Now, I know, though, I mean, people have said you could really pry these masks off.
07:35But if you run a risk of breaking the mask, why would you want to do that?
07:38Now, at least you get the chance to see what these look like underneath.
07:44Okay, so we pry this off.
07:48Oh, you're doing it this way you are.
07:49Yeah.
07:50On the inside of the mask, by the way, there's a hole and a square peg there on the top,
07:54and that's going to plug into the figure's face.
07:56But what does the face look like, you may ask?
08:01No need for a nose.
08:02I mean, obviously, the mouth is being occupied right now by a big hole in the front of his face.
08:07Am I maybe the only one that looks at this and thinks it looks like Sam from Mac and Me?
08:11Not Sam from Mac and Me, Mac from Mac and Me.
08:14Those awful-looking aliens that they designed specifically for, like, a Coca-Cola commercial.
08:19Mac and Me, I don't know.
08:20Am I the only one that sees that?
08:22It is horrifying.
08:24But at least it gives us a chance to look at and see what these things would actually look like underneath the masks.
08:29Now, again, we've already taken the liberty of removing this mask.
08:31Let's find a way to cover this guy's face.
08:34You take this mask, and it works essentially the exact same way.
08:37So a square's got to go to a square, and a circle's got to go to a circle.
08:41So lining all those things up...
08:43Oh, so painful, I would imagine, that would be to plug this into someone's literal face.
08:47But you just line it up like that, and then you've got Sam's face underneath.
08:52I'm not really sure, to be honest with you, which one I like more.
08:54I mean, for me, like just a traditional Sam walking door-to-door, hoping to get candy, at least in his hands,
09:00I would rather probably have gone with this head sculpt.
09:02Still, though, I could certainly see now why I would want to maybe get two of these.
09:06One to display with trick-or-treat Sam's, obviously his face underneath,
09:10and then one to display with the burlap sack.
09:13For the figure's articulation, if you're familiar with Ben Cooper kids,
09:15they're pretty much going to be the exact same articulation around the clock.
09:19The head's going to be on a ball joint.
09:20So right now, you can rotate the head all the way around.
09:23Maybe that's why he's making such a face.
09:25The head can also look down and up, and you can also rock it back and forth, too.
09:29Now, these arms do, in theory, rotate all the way around.
09:31I noticed, though, that they're extremely tight.
09:33I've also noticed, too, that if you try to rotate them all the way around,
09:36you're going to probably have a problem where, like, the sleeve of the outfit, the costume,
09:40is going to start to get tight.
09:42I mean, again, like, when you get to around here, does it rotate?
09:45Does it rotate?
09:46Okay, yes, it does.
09:47Never mind, just what I said.
09:48The arms do hinge out comfortably, comfortably at 90 degrees, or a T-pose.
09:52The figure does have a bicep swivel.
09:54Would you believe also on this side as well?
09:56Stop that.
09:57Does he really?
09:57Yeah.
09:58No, honestly, on both sides.
09:59The figure does also have a double hinge in his elbow.
10:01Hands do rotate all the way around and hinge back and forth.
10:04Here's an upper torso ball joint.
10:06Legs do split, and they split pretty good.
10:09You also can move them forward, move them back.
10:11There's a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
10:13Single hinge only for the knee.
10:15I guess that necessarily doesn't need a double hinge.
10:17Then he has an ankle pivot and an ankle rocker.
10:21Good-looking Sam.
10:21What a perfect time to also be looking at Sam.
10:23Even though this guy has been sold out on many of the sites, I actually did find it.
10:28I can't even think of it right now.
10:29I did find a website that was selling a lot of the Ben Cooper kid figures separately, which
10:33is a good thing, because if you aren't so specifically dedicated, committed to collecting all the
10:38kids, so generally the waves consist of five kids.
10:42I, myself, probably wouldn't end up getting all the five, because again, you run out of
10:46shelf space real fast.
10:47The moment you start to buy Ben Cooper kids, buy the fives.
10:49But again, to handpick the ones that I would be the most interested in, I was glad, again,
10:54I was able to find a site that was selling it individually.
10:57Generally, on average, the five-pack kids, again, when they sell them as the waves, usually
11:02go from $120 to about $149 or so.
11:05Individually, though, I was able to find Sam for about $21 US online.
11:09Then the shipping, then the brokerage and all the fun things that go along with that.
11:13But I think I'm glad that I finally have, especially at this time of season, this spooky season,
11:17finally have someone like the likes of Michael Myers to be walking the streets along with
11:21Sam.
11:22I would imagine these two would get along really well.
11:24I mean, Sam generally likes mounds.
11:26Who in their right minds is eating mounds or bounty?
11:29Not me.
11:29Not me.
11:30I mean, Michael Myers doesn't even stand for that stuff.
11:32He generally likes Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
11:34And I'm with you.
11:35Yeah.
11:35Reese's Peanut Butter Cups all the way.
11:37I like these.
11:38Do I like them enough, though, to get the entire waves?
11:40Maybe.
11:41I don't know.
11:41But again, to venture off and start to buy five sets of these at the $150 US, I would
11:47also say, too, $150 is a little bit steep when you want to try to get all the kids.
11:52And then my biggest thing, too, is not even so much the cost of these, but the fact that
11:55if you get five, and now we're looking at, again, these two were from Wave 9.
11:59So that's like 45 to 50 figures just of kids.
12:04You can run out of shelf space real fast.
12:06I think, if anything, would be choosy and selectful as to which ones I really want to
12:09have my collection.
12:10The ones that you currently see right now are the ones I'm happy to find adding to
12:14my collection.
12:15And now I can add Sam, along with the likes of Leatherface and Michael Myers.
12:18I might find myself revisiting, in fact, Ben Cooper's Wave 4 set of five figures, maybe
12:22not getting all five.
12:24The set does consist, though, of Captain Spaulding, John Carver, Sam, Nosferatu, and Krampus.
12:29But considering, though, that three of those five are celebrating the season, I guess you
12:33could maybe make the argument that Captain Spaulding does as well.
12:35But down to its core, though, a John Carver and Krampus might be in my immediate future.
12:40As those could be something I could look at at Thanksgiving.
12:42Though, again, I did miss sort of my own Thanksgiving in October.
12:46But coming around, though, to November, we're coming up to the States at the holiday of
12:50thanks.
12:51So I might see myself maybe picking up the Ben Cooper, John Carver for that.
12:54And of course, you know, when you have to think about it, Christmas isn't that far away.
12:58I know, really, we have to kind of get over the hump of Halloween first.
13:00But Christmas is just another two months after that.
13:03Maybe I'll be picking up the Ben Cooper Wave 4 Krampus for a review during December.
13:07But what do you guys, though, think of Sam?
13:09Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:10Do you guys think it's kind of cool the fact that this figure is one of the few, maybe the
13:14only, that has actually a swappable mask?
13:17In the end, though, I'm probably going to be beelining it back to the original sack
13:20mask as my go-to.
13:21But I do like the idea that a character like Sam gets options.
13:25He certainly does change his looks in the movie, at least for his face.
13:28I like that NECA did the same when it came to this Ben Cooper release of him.
13:31What do you guys think of him?
13:32Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:33And if you guys have been collecting any of the Ben Cooper kids, which ones do you currently
13:37have in your collection?
13:39If in the meantime, though, you guys did enjoy this spooky video, do it a solid come on now
13:42and hit it with a like.
13:44You guys want to stick around for more?
13:45So for the rest of Spottober, and I hope so, then certainly hit the subscribe, turn on
13:49that bell.
13:50And of course, mark your ghoulish peeper's appeal to this channel.
13:53There's going to be more spooky related videos coming away before the month's end.
13:56As always, guys, thanks for watching.
13:58See you guys next time.
14:02See you guys next time.
