00:00Riddle me this, when does an adaptation change an identity?
00:03Here's a look at McFarlane Toys, DC Multiverse, Batman's Hush, The Riddler.
00:20The Riddler is a conflicted criminal.
00:22His dreams of wealth and prosperity are often at odds with his love of finding a worthy competitor,
00:27namely the Batman, to challenge to a game of mental and physical gymnastics.
00:32Luckily for me, I didn't have to solve any perplexing puzzles to get my hands on the Riddler.
00:36Batman's Hush Riddler I bought directly from Popeye the Toy Man,
00:38who, come to think of it now, could be the Riddler himself.
00:41It was odd, though, that he was giving all his directions in rhyme.
00:43When is a riddle like a road map?
00:45Come on, man, just tell me where I need to meet you.
00:47We're going to meet this guy right in the middle, using the tape measure,
00:49just to see how tall the figure's going to stand.
00:51And unless the tape measure is giving us puzzles as well,
00:54if I'm reading this correctly, the figure's going to stand at 7 inches in height,
00:58working out to be a figure that's 18 centimeters tall.
01:01When is a figure like a copywriting carpenter?
01:03Well, when he's using the same build.
01:05Here's what the Riddler looks like, though, with the Joker from the Three Jokers line,
01:08who essentially, though, is using the exact same body as Edward Ingman,
01:11short of maybe the fact that he's using a different tie.
01:14This same body has been used countless times.
01:16I'm not going to bring in all the times that that has happened.
01:19But as another example, though, I'm also going to bring in the Court of the Owls.
01:22Now, one thing that's rather interesting,
01:24and I'll kind of bring this to your attention a little bit later as well,
01:26being that they also happen to be using all the same molds,
01:29they still carry over the sculpting of the spats,
01:32which unfortunately, though, for Riddler, he's doing the exact same.
01:35Why is this guy not standing at all?
01:37Other examples, though, that we can also bring in, too.
01:40You know what? We'll just move him out of the way.
01:42Well, you have to free up the space anyways.
01:44Let's bring in Hush Batman,
01:45who I took the liberty of actually adding him on to a display stand
01:48because he was doing the same.
01:49Let's also bring in Hush Superman.
01:52And some other examples, though, of Nygma.
01:54Here's what the figure looks like with the Arkham series Nygma.
01:57If you like the design of Nygma, I wasn't as much of a fan of that,
02:00but I'm certainly much more of a fan of the classic or Silver Age Riddler.
02:03So let's bring him in as well.
02:05Now, this Riddler did also get himself a variant.
02:07It's a variant, though, I tend not to bring in
02:09just because I like this one a little bit more.
02:10But this is also the one that you could say is a little bit more closer
02:13to like the new Batman Adventures way back then in like the 70s and 80s.
02:17But there's a design of him as well.
02:19D'Arne, he's not lost to me either.
02:20That Riddler's using a previous body.
02:22It's almost like he's got conflicting identity.
02:24Nothing conflicting at all when it comes to his accessory count.
02:27I'm sure you can easily look with your eyes and see that there's three.
02:29The figure has first to the right a black display stand.
02:32Now you'll see, too, that they're using the white DC logo
02:35versus the black logo we've gotten before.
02:37It stands out.
02:38It looks prettier.
02:39Granted, though, I still feel like it's turned the wrong way.
02:42I'd rather if this...
02:43Again, we spent so much time talking about that.
02:45I won't spend any bit more.
02:46It does have, though, in walking distance,
02:48a peg right there that can plug into either one of Nygma's boots.
02:52The figure does also come in clear with a trading card.
02:54And I like, though, that they're using a trading card
02:56with an issue with the actual front issue of Hush.
02:59One of the issues, at least.
03:00Where you can see, though,
03:01that Riddler is using all the Batman characters as pawns.
03:05A really nice looking image.
03:06And if you're going to use anything for source material
03:08when it comes to Hush,
03:09this is certainly one of the better looking covers.
03:11You can also see for the cover some other examples.
03:14There's Hush Joker.
03:15There's also Poison Ivy.
03:16Come to think of it,
03:17other than Batman and Robin,
03:18has that been the only time that we've got Pamela Isley?
03:21I don't know.
03:22It could be.
03:23I think it's prime time, though,
03:24just before we run out of the license.
03:25And I say that to Todd and his team.
03:27Please release a Hush Poison Ivy.
03:30On the back, though, of the card,
03:31his real name is Edward Nygma,
03:32if you didn't already know that.
03:34A very short read.
03:35Actually, one of the shortest reads that I've read
03:37when it comes to these reviews.
03:38Here's...
03:38Let's move that off to the side as well.
03:41The figure does come included, of course, with a cane.
03:43The cane, I don't know, has been used before.
03:46It hasn't been used, though,
03:47with the Silver Age Classics Riddler.
03:49It's a very kind of gummy plastic
03:50that they're using for the cane.
03:52And he actually only has one hand,
03:54if we don't drop the figure.
03:55He only has one hand here
03:56that has the means to hold the cane.
03:58The cane fits okay in his hand.
04:00I've noticed, though,
04:02that it hasn't flaked necessarily at the paint,
04:04but I've got a few little wear marks
04:06where that's rubbed against the fingers.
04:08I would imagine, though,
04:09it's been molded here in green plastic
04:10and not necessarily painted.
04:11I think, if anything,
04:12the only thing that's probably been painted
04:13is the gold handle.
04:15You can have him either holding the cane like this,
04:17or, if you choose,
04:18you can also have him holding the cane
04:19like a true cane.
04:21Nothing necessarily needs it to help walk it
04:23or able his walk,
04:24but if you did want to,
04:25you can't get the handle into his hand.
04:26It just doesn't hold as well.
04:29Let's move that off to the side.
04:30Getting, though, a closer look at the Riddler.
04:32You know, again,
04:32with this figure being really essentially
04:34the sum of many other parts,
04:36the main part, though,
04:37being that he's basically just using
04:39the same body as the Joker.
04:40Nothing at all seems really to be changed.
04:42The hands themselves even look like
04:44they're identical.
04:45Maybe that they've added
04:46just a little bit more paint
04:47to Riddler's versus, obviously,
04:49the Jokers.
04:50But it looks like jacket-wise,
04:52leg-wise,
04:53and especially spat-wise,
04:55not to spit all over you,
04:56it looks like they are using the exact same.
04:58If it is a case, though,
05:00where they clearly are using the same bodies,
05:01the one course correction,
05:03though, I really wish
05:04that I'd like to see them do
05:05is get rid of the spats.
05:08These would, imagine,
05:08be molded anyway separately,
05:10so why not just mold regular shoes?
05:12Again, it was still the case
05:13when we looked at the Court of Owls.
05:14I mean, there's many more examples
05:16of where there's spat shoes
05:18on these suit characters
05:19than there aren't.
05:20Again, I really would have liked
05:21if they could have used different shoes.
05:23Other than that,
05:23the obvious noticing of the spats,
05:25I think overall,
05:26the sculpting of this figure,
05:27it makes the most sense,
05:29obviously,
05:29to use a body like this.
05:31Now, when I did say
05:32conflicting identity,
05:34depending on, though,
05:34which fandom you follow
05:35when it comes to Hush.
05:37Hush in the comics also,
05:38I mean, Hush was played,
05:39or a real name of Hush
05:40was Timmy Elliott.
05:42However, though,
05:43if you watch the animated version
05:44of Hush,
05:46it's actually, though,
05:46to be revealed
05:47that it was an alter ego
05:48of Edward Nygma.
05:49Interesting.
05:51So, again,
05:51it does make some sense, though,
05:53that, you know,
05:53again, he's using a body
05:54from before.
05:55He doesn't quite know
05:56who he is by now,
05:58and he clearly doesn't know
05:59what body he wants to use either.
06:01The thing about the jacket,
06:01though,
06:02is the jacket is softer plastic,
06:04so it does give
06:04a little bit of mobility
06:05when it comes to the figures.
06:07He's not locked necessarily
06:08in for the fact
06:09that because he does have the suit,
06:10you can't do much movement with him.
06:11I know we're going to spend
06:12more time talking
06:12about the articulation
06:13in the second.
06:14First thing,
06:15I guess backing it a bit,
06:16the figure does have
06:17a pretty good-looking head sculpt.
06:19Now, they could have gone
06:19maybe the route
06:20to giving it a sinister smile,
06:22but, I mean, again,
06:22like, it's really hard
06:23giving expressions to figures
06:24because it's always locking
06:26them in like that
06:27when you have them on the shelf.
06:28He has, at least, though,
06:29a very cocky smirk,
06:32and I think that works
06:32really well for the character.
06:34I like that they've sculpted
06:35the hair the way they've had.
06:36I mean, there's a nice
06:37little strand of hair
06:38that actually goes
06:38over top of his mask.
06:39I think the mask
06:40is painted really well, too,
06:41and he does also have his hat.
06:43Now, the hat isn't removable.
06:44Don't try to be forcing
06:45that off at all,
06:46but this essentially
06:47is really the only thing
06:48that's new to the figure.
06:49Everything else, really,
06:50is just used from before.
06:51The green works really well.
06:53I mean, one of the things
06:54that's also interesting, too,
06:56is if we just kind of
06:56move the jacket out of the way,
06:57they actually have painted
06:58on a question mark
06:59for the tie.
07:00So there is a few little things
07:01that they did add
07:01to the furriller
07:02that wasn't there before,
07:03but for the most part, yeah,
07:04I mean, he's basically
07:05just using a joker body.
07:07The legs sculpt well.
07:08I mean, again,
07:09like, it's not really
07:09quite the same green plastic.
07:11You can see there's much more
07:12shinier of a green
07:13for the jacket
07:13because, again,
07:14the material that they're
07:14using up here
07:15were things like arms
07:16and things like legs.
07:18Seem more of a matte plastic.
07:20But, again, overall,
07:21the only thing I really
07:23would have really fixed
07:24is just giving
07:25a different footwear.
07:26Having those spats
07:27just tells me
07:27that they're using
07:28a figure from before.
07:29I mean, we all kind of know
07:30if you've collected
07:31enough of these
07:31that to recycle
07:33a figure's body
07:33is common practice nowadays,
07:35not just by McFarlane Toys,
07:36but any figure company.
07:37If they can get more
07:38out of a mold,
07:39you know they're going
07:39to do that.
07:40And I think Riddler
07:41is a logical solution,
07:43a logical pick
07:43for a character
07:44to use a suit.
07:45They're just going to
07:46kind of keep going
07:46down the list.
07:47What else can we do
07:48for a suit,
07:48for a character?
07:49I mean, they've yet
07:50to really release
07:51a suited Lex Luthor.
07:53I mean, I'm surprised
07:53actually up to this point
07:54that they haven't
07:55even done one.
07:56But I think Riddler
07:56overall looks good
07:57for, again, what he is.
07:59For the figure's articulation,
08:00I know we kind of
08:01started earlier a bit
08:02looking at the torso point,
08:04but let's start things
08:05first with, again,
08:05his head.
08:06Head's going to be
08:06in a ball joint,
08:07so it allows the head
08:08to rotate all the way around.
08:10It looks down
08:10and it looks up
08:11and you can also
08:12move it back and forth.
08:15Top of the torso,
08:15top of the torso to you,
08:17sir,
08:17does have a joint
08:18so you can bend it
08:19back and forth.
08:20Not by much, though,
08:20but you know there's
08:21something working
08:22behind the scenes.
08:23The arms do rotate
08:24all the way around.
08:25You can hinge them out.
08:26Never really an issue
08:27when it comes to these arms.
08:28The only one thing,
08:29though, about this figure
08:30is that you can see
08:31there's a gap right there.
08:32But at least, though,
08:33the gap, I mean,
08:34you're only really looking
08:35at green plastic anyway,
08:36so it's not like
08:36you're really looking
08:37at the shirt.
08:38There's a swivel there
08:39at the bicep,
08:40a double hinge on the elbow,
08:41and the hands rotate,
08:43I would say,
08:43normally all the way around,
08:44but they seem like
08:45they get hung up
08:46right around here
08:47and things get real tight.
08:49The legs do split.
08:51Not far,
08:51but they split enough.
08:53You can move them
08:53sure enough forward.
08:54You can also bring
08:55them back as well.
08:56There is a mild swivel
08:57at the top of the thigh.
08:59The figure does also
08:59have a double hinge
09:00in the knee,
09:00like all the other cases
09:01of this build before.
09:02There's an ankle pivot,
09:03there's an ankle rocker,
09:05and the figure does also
09:05have toe articulation as well.
09:07For what he is,
09:08he's a good-looking riddler.
09:10I don't think, though,
09:11I would expect to go into this
09:12and hope that they would
09:13have taken this idea
09:14of riddler with the balder cap
09:16and the way that he's dressed
09:17and say, okay,
09:18he needs to be a brand-new
09:19invented character,
09:20brand-new invented body,
09:21when they already have
09:22bodies very similar
09:23like that anyways.
09:24To take a joker,
09:26for example,
09:26makes the most sense
09:27because, again,
09:28they already have the mold.
09:29And even again,
09:30is this guy going to stand
09:31this time?
09:32Maybe he's not.
09:33Maybe he is.
09:33You know what?
09:34Let's get a display stand.
09:36I keep saying, though,
09:36these display stands
09:37come in handy.
09:38Let's actually make use of one
09:39or make use of one right now.
09:42You know, again,
09:43like, I'm sure I could have
09:43easily gone back
09:44to my tickle trunk
09:45and my other totes
09:46and brought out more examples
09:47of this suit
09:48because there have been
09:49quite a handful of them.
09:50They've also used these, too,
09:51with the movie tied-in characters.
09:53In the end, though,
09:54I mean,
09:54you can't fault McFarlane Toys
09:55for using, like,
09:56a suited character
09:57from a previous release
09:58to give us an Edward Nygma.
09:59If it means, though,
10:00that we have a hush Riddler,
10:02it's not a bad thing at all.
10:03I think, though,
10:04one thing,
10:05because they've already paid
10:05essentially for this mold,
10:07I think by including
10:08some additional accessories
10:09would have been nice, too.
10:10I mean, a cane goes
10:11hand-in-hand,
10:12literally hand-in-hand
10:13with the Riddler,
10:14but just to include
10:15some other accessories
10:16would have been
10:16a nice touch as well.
10:17The head sculpt's good.
10:18The body's good
10:19for what it is.
10:20All in all, though,
10:20I think it's a good-looking Riddler.
10:22Don't go in there
10:22expecting that this guy's
10:23going to be reinventing the wheel.
10:25The wheel wasn't broken
10:26in the first place.
10:27Nothing really was wrong
10:28with the figure's body anyways.
10:29Why not use it again
10:30for Edward?
10:31Wrapping up now,
10:32the review for the Riddler
10:32reminds me again
10:33how behind we are
10:34when it comes to
10:34Batman Hush characters,
10:36short of the obvious
10:36of being a Batman.
10:37I mean, how many versions
10:38of him have we gotten?
10:39Four of them by now.
10:40We've also gotten a Superman.
10:42And we've got a Hush.
10:43Hush got released
10:44two different ways
10:45on his own
10:45or packed along
10:46with another
10:46of that Hush Batman.
10:48But we still seem
10:49to be really behind
10:50when it comes to
10:50like Hush villains.
10:52A Joker would be ideal.
10:53I mean, a Poison Ivy,
10:54a Harley Quinn.
10:55We could keep going on.
10:57I mean, Jim Lee's artwork
10:58needs to be translated
10:59to plastic.
11:00DC Direct did a great job
11:01of doing some, you know,
11:02deep Batman Hush characters.
11:04The problem with those
11:05would be that they're
11:05also smaller
11:06and they've limited
11:07levels of pose ability.
11:09Todd could clearly
11:09run with that idea
11:10and maybe release
11:11more additional characters.
11:12I hope, though,
11:13that we're not just
11:14going to be ending
11:14the license
11:15with only releasing
11:16a Hush Riddler.
11:17But still, though,
11:18for what he is,
11:18and again,
11:19with what little there is
11:20that's new for Riddler,
11:22I don't mind the head sculpt.
11:23I don't mind the cane.
11:24I don't mind the colors either.
11:26I mean, again,
11:26there's so much recycled parts
11:27here that go into the Riddler.
11:29But in the end, though,
11:30we get a good figure
11:30that comes out of it.
11:32And again, is that a bad thing?
11:33I don't think so.
11:34If you guys are interested
11:35to get this one for yourself,
11:36you should be starting
11:37to circulate now,
11:38either in stores or online.
11:39You can also go
11:40the simpler route,
11:41the easier route,
11:42and getting this directly
11:43from sellers on Facebook
11:45like Popeye the Toy Man,
11:46which I happen
11:47to have grabbed this one.
11:48I got also
11:48the Classics Back Girl
11:50that we just recently
11:50had a look at,
11:51and I picked up
11:51a couple more as well.
11:52So I hope you guys
11:53are going to be coming back
11:54to this channel.
11:55In the meantime,
11:55if you guys did enjoy this video,
