00:00Something tells me if you open your door to the sweet-seeking Sawyer, you shouldn't stick your hands out while you're giving your handouts.
00:06Here's a look at the neck of Ben Cooper, Texas Chainsaw Masker Leatherface, action figure with costume and mask.
00:20The Ben Cooper Costume Kids Collection is back with Series 9, bringing a fresh batch of spooky trick-or-treaters to your shelf.
00:26Based on the licensed kid costumes from one of the largest Halloween costume manufacturers from the 1950s to 80s,
00:32these fully posable 6-inch figures perfectly capture the vintage charm of the looks from that era.
00:37This wave features NECA's original designs in the style of Ben Cooper costumes, as if they were produced today,
00:43reimagining legendary horror villains, wearing a mask and soft goods clothing replicating the vinyl look of classic costumes.
00:50Each frightful figure comes complete with a movie-specific trick-or-treat bag or pumpkin bucket accessory.
00:55Each figure is sold separately and packaged in a number-retro-style box that pays homage to the classic costume packaging.
01:03Trick-or-treat. Smell his feet. Give him something made of meat.
01:06Before we go through his bag and find out if there's any human remains in there,
01:09we're going to take the tape measure and we're going to see how tall the Ben Cooper, Texas Chainsaw Masker Leatherface stands.
01:14My first foyer into collecting the Ben Cooper figures.
01:16It really does seem like a line that would have been right up my alley,
01:19and yet, just for more reasons of just the availability of them, they've been next to impossible to find.
01:24They seem to have been quite easy to produce, from Nekka's part, the fact that we're now into Wave 9.
01:28I would imagine, though, that they're probably using somewhat of the same body
01:32and then just slapping on new vinyl clothing and giving the figure a mask,
01:35which I'm sure is exactly what they've done.
01:37But there's certainly, though, a charm to be said for at least the slaughtered clan here.
01:40We're going to go ahead and take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
01:43And like I said, we'll kind of bring in some other examples as well.
01:45Now, for the tape measure telling us, it's going to tell us, in fact,
01:48that Leatherface stands at about five and three-quarters of an inch in height,
01:52and he's going to be working out to be a figure that's 14 centimeters tall.
01:55All at a hunch, but Nekka's likely just used the bodies from the Trick-or-Treater 3 pack
01:59that we've gotten from Halloween 3.
02:00As the examples I'm going to be bringing in right now,
02:02the jack-o'-lantern, obviously the witch on the other side,
02:05and the skeleton all seem to be using the same body as Leatherface.
02:08I just watched the actually 80s made-for-TV movie, The Midnight Hour.
02:12What a great film.
02:13And actually, there was a kid at the beginning of the movie
02:15that was trying to put a playing card inside the spoke of his tire
02:18and ended up causing his finger to bleed.
02:19But he was actually wearing the Halloween 3 skeleton mask.
02:23I think this mask, in fact, has gotten quite a lot of mileage.
02:25There's a couple of made-for-TV movies, some TV episodes, in fact,
02:28that even had that mask.
02:30I think even Knight Rider had, in fact, maybe not Michael Knight,
02:33but I think there was an episode of Knight Rider where the mask was there as well.
02:36Now, we're looking at, obviously, the Halloween 3 mask,
02:38but if we're going to be talking anything about Bubba,
02:40we'd have to bring in another example of him,
02:42and here's what the figures look like.
02:44What's the 50th anniversary?
02:46The ultimate Leatherface that we looked at recently here on the channel.
02:49Yeah, 50 years of hooking up with hitchhikers.
02:50It's hard to believe.
02:51What's also hard to believe is the fact that Leatherface,
02:53for I'm sure the first time, has not come in clear with his chainsaw.
02:56Most of these trick-or-treaters that I've seen online
02:58tend to only really come in clear with their trick-or-treating bag,
03:00which just happens to be right there.
03:04Want to see it?
03:06I thought you would.
03:08The bag itself actually is made of kind of more of a,
03:11like a laminated plastic,
03:13although the inside of it kind of feels more like cardboard.
03:16Like the outside feels like laminated,
03:17but then the inside feels like cardboard.
03:20The outside, though, I love the look of Leatherface here.
03:23It says, have a Halloween massacre.
03:27I don't know if he's actually cut through the pumpkin.
03:30It looks like he's probably carved the pumpkin with a chainsaw.
03:32That's some precision cutting.
03:34The same image, though, is still on the back.
03:36So, I mean, there's not really much that does change between the two.
03:39And there's a little handle that he can hook onto his hand.
03:42I'm going to bring in the trick-or-treating bags that we got here
03:44from the Trick-or-Treaters Halloween 3-Pack.
03:46Two of them are just kind of more paper bags.
03:49This was the one that looks a little bit more interesting.
03:51You can kind of see that they've essentially just used the same blueprint,
03:54cut out the same template, put the same handle in place,
03:57and then he's just done different images on the front.
03:59I've also picked up a couple of other Ben Coopers,
04:01one that we will be looking at actually during Halloween.
04:04You probably already know which one it's going to be.
04:06One thing I did want to actually make mention, though,
04:08is that the Halloween, or the Leatherface,
04:11his trick-or-treating bag is thicker
04:13than the one that we got with the Trick-or-Treaters.
04:16The Trick-or-Treaters was a little bit thinner of a plastic,
04:18and it wasn't also printed on both sides.
04:20So he does do a little bit better for that.
04:22Like I said, though, that you can take the bag
04:24and you can just hook it around his hand.
04:26The plastic for the hand is really hard, rigid plastic.
04:29It's that kind of plastic that you really have to heave first
04:31before you do anything else with it.
04:33But the way that it's at least designed,
04:34it's easy, easy to get that around his thumb and his finger.
04:38You can either carry it around that way,
04:40or what you can also do, too,
04:42is that the figure does have, at his possession,
04:44bendable elbows.
04:45So you can take...
04:47I guess you really want to have the hands turned this way.
04:49And you can kind of just have them hooked around the bag this way
04:51and just kind of more open it up
04:53like he's looking for treats.
04:54Again, I just want to again stress this,
04:56the clan, the family that he's from.
04:58I don't think it's looking...
04:59He's looking for the kind of treats
05:00that you're willing to offer.
05:02So again, you can kind of just hook it around his hand.
05:04Not the easiest thing to do.
05:06I mean, like I said, it's just...
05:07It's hard just because, like,
05:09you have to get it around his finger and his thumb.
05:11It is something, though, that you can be successful with,
05:13just with a little bit of patience.
05:16Let's remove the bag for right now.
05:17We'll put it off to the side.
05:18Now, some of these Ben Cooper figures
05:20do come also included with pales,
05:21the one that we will be looking at
05:22during the spooky spot season.
05:24And again, you probably already know
05:24which one it's going to be.
05:25It does actually come included with a jack-o'-lantern,
05:28a bucket.
05:29I'm sure we're right now giving it away.
05:30What I won't be giving away, though,
05:32is the identity of this child.
05:33The one thing that was kind of disappointing,
05:35and not knowing this, going into this,
05:37because I...
05:37first time picking up a Ben Cooper figure,
05:39I assumed that the mask would have been removable.
05:42It's not.
05:43What you actually get, though,
05:44is just a faux kind of strap
05:46that's wrapped around the back of the character's head.
05:49It's not, like, a real elastic.
05:51It's only just there by suggestion alone.
05:53So, like, unfortunately with the mask,
05:55there's no real way to remove it.
05:57The front of the face, though, as you can see,
05:59does have very, very dark eyes.
06:01Very hard to actually make out.
06:02But I thought, though,
06:03maybe I would be able to pry this off.
06:05Would there be, like, a face underneath?
06:06And the more I kind of peel this away,
06:09there's that kind of buckling going on
06:10and that sound that does tell me,
06:13stop doing what you're doing.
06:14Don't move any further with this.
06:16You're only going to break the mask.
06:17I would think, though,
06:18if I was successful at prying this off,
06:20I don't think there's any hidden Easter eggs behind that.
06:22I think what I'd have is an unfinished face,
06:24which is somewhat then ironic
06:25that I say an unfinished face
06:26and dealing, of course,
06:27with someone like, you know,
06:29big Bubba Sawyer here, Sawyer.
06:31The actual look of the body, though,
06:32is just Velcroed on the back.
06:34So, ideally, though,
06:36if you were to un-Velcro the back of the body,
06:38you'd be able to undo
06:39and take off the whole entire outfit.
06:41But what really would only be underneath, though,
06:43is just a regular human body.
06:45I think this same body, in fact,
06:46was also used for, I think,
06:48the young Jason Voorhees as well
06:50that was packed along with Pamela.
06:52I think that, in fact,
06:53like this body's been used a couple of times.
06:54Maybe it's also been used with Kevin from Home Alone.
06:57So, again, like, the body has gotten around.
06:59It's, again, the same body
07:00that if you look at, like, the trick-or-treaters,
07:02I don't think there's anything at all
07:03that's different between the two.
07:04The hands are sculpted the same as well.
07:06The only thing that is different, though,
07:08is when you look at the trick-or-treaters,
07:09they're actually using more of a felt costume,
07:11where with these being based on the Ben Cooper designs,
07:14the original plastic suits were essentially just that.
07:17They were just like a plastic sheet
07:18that you put over top of the body.
07:19Some were lucky enough, in fact,
07:21where you actually got yourself a finished body
07:22on front and on the back.
07:24My very first Halloween costume,
07:26I kid you not,
07:27in kindergarten when I was in grade five,
07:28or when I was five in kindergarten,
07:30was actually a Master Universe He-Man.
07:33And from what I remember,
07:34I don't even think it even had a back to it.
07:36I think you just,
07:37it had just, like, strings,
07:38and you tied it around your arms,
07:40and you tied it around your legs.
07:41The whole front was finished,
07:43so it looked like He-Man,
07:44with a bandolier,
07:45and it did have this muscle suit.
07:46But from what I remember,
07:47I don't think it had any back to it at all.
07:49And, of course,
07:50it did have the He-Man mask on the front.
07:51One thing that was known for being Ben Cooper designs
07:54was a lot of times,
07:55you wouldn't actually even get the character's look.
07:57So, like, Leatherface may not have even had the tie
07:59or the apron.
08:00It may have actually just been an image of Leatherface.
08:03I think there was an episode of The Simpsons
08:05where Milhouse was dressed as Radioactive Man,
08:07and Lisa had, in fact,
08:08looked at the costume and said,
08:10I don't even think Radioactive Man
08:11would have a costume
08:11where it would have his own face on the front of it.
08:14But that was kind of the charm
08:15of the Ben Cooper designs.
08:17This one actually looks more like,
08:18really, Leatherface,
08:19that it does have the tie,
08:20it does have, of course, the apron.
08:21It doesn't have something
08:23that you obviously would have seen in the movie,
08:24where he just brands himself
08:25Texas Chainsaw Mascara
08:27with a whole lot of blood splattered around it.
08:30The material that they're using
08:31is kind of more like a pleather.
08:33It's that nylon material,
08:35which I think would hold up generally well.
08:37I would probably recommend,
08:38by the way that it's seamed
08:39on the inside like this,
08:40don't do any severe leg splitting,
08:43because that would certainly split the seam,
08:45and that would disappoint.
08:46That would certainly frustrate Leatherface.
08:48But overall, like the costume is,
08:49for what it is,
08:50I mean, it looks okay.
08:51It does have, like,
08:52little sneakers there on the bottom.
08:53I think, though,
08:54are these the same sneakers?
08:56I think that they are.
08:57They're the same sneakers.
08:58The only thing that's missing,
08:59actually, is the sock,
09:00but it looks like they are maybe
09:02using the same feet
09:03as the jack-o'-lantern,
09:05which is obviously just a different color.
09:07The figure's possibility,
09:08if you are familiar, though,
09:09with the trick-or-treaters,
09:10would be somewhat of the same idea here, too.
09:13So, like, the head sculpt
09:14for the Leatherface here
09:15would have, of course, the ball joint.
09:17Yeah, it would.
09:17So you'd be able to move the head up and down,
09:19rock it back and forth.
09:20You could also, as well,
09:21rotate this all the way around.
09:23Now, I don't know, though,
09:24if they're going to be using
09:25the exact same head
09:26with all the Ben Cooper designs.
09:27I think that probably,
09:28from what I've seen,
09:29have several different heads,
09:30and they're sort of rotating around them.
09:32Clearly, they're also going to be
09:33changing the skin color.
09:35They're also going to be changing
09:35the color of the hair.
09:36So even if it is the case
09:37that they're just using the bodies again,
09:39there's enough, at least,
09:40color changes that they can do them
09:41so they look like they're different kids.
09:43It's not just this lucky kid
09:45that gets to go trick-or-treating
09:46every Halloween,
09:47wearing a different outfit every time.
09:49For the arms, though,
09:50they hinge out.
09:51But I did notice, though,
09:52with the arms,
09:53they are a little on the tighter side.
09:54You can also only bring out
09:55the arms so far
09:56because while the arms
09:57may have a bit of give,
09:59this section here
10:00gets a little tight.
10:01Luckily, there's enough slack
10:03right around there,
10:04so at least there's enough movement
10:05to move it around.
10:06You can move the arms forward.
10:07You can move them, obviously,
10:08back there as well.
10:09If you move up the arm,
10:11there is a bicep swivel
10:13from the looks of it.
10:14There is also a double hinge
10:15on the elbow,
10:16so at least they didn't
10:16phone it in there.
10:17And the hands rotate
10:18all the way around
10:19and hinge back and forth.
10:20Upper torso seems to be,
10:22at least on a ball joint,
10:23maybe a swivel joint only.
10:25There's no articulation
10:26down below here
10:27from what it seems.
10:28Again, there's much more
10:30of a split than I would think
10:31that you'd be able
10:31to do right now,
10:32but I wouldn't really move
10:34the legs any more
10:34than what I'm doing
10:35just because, again,
10:36it gets really tight down here.
10:37Not that I want to stay away
10:39from that,
10:39but I mean, like, again,
10:40I wouldn't want to bring
10:41them out too far
10:42because, again,
10:42that's going to start
10:43to split the seam.
10:44Legs move forward,
10:45they move back.
10:46There's a swivel there
10:46at the top of the thigh,
10:48double hinge on the knee,
10:49and for the feet,
10:50the feet have
10:51what seems to be ball joints,
10:53not the days
10:54of the old hinge joints
10:55from, like,
10:55the old retro cloth figures.
10:57There definitely seems
10:57to be a ball joint
10:58happening there.
10:59And, of course,
10:59the figures do have
11:00pegles and bombs of the feet.
11:01Not a bad-looking figure.
11:02I mean, yeah, I know,
11:03Wave 9, Wave 9.
11:04We're kind of way late
11:05getting into looking at these.
11:07I like the charm of these.
11:08Like, I can certainly see
11:09why people would have been
11:10collecting all the way
11:11up to Wave 9,
11:12all the Ben Cooper figures
11:13from NECA.
11:13Again, when you bring
11:14in the other examples,
11:15what examples,
11:16at least I have,
11:17would be of the skull,
11:19the jack-o'-lantern.
11:20Jack-o'-lantern still
11:20is my favorite.
11:21And, of course,
11:22the witch.
11:23From the Halloween 3
11:24season of the witch,
11:25trick-or-treaters set.
11:27Now, I think from
11:28the cost standing of this,
11:29when we think of, like,
11:30retro cloth figures,
11:31it's an easy thing
11:32for NECA to produce
11:33because a lot of times
11:33it's just using a body,
11:35a body that they
11:35already have in stock.
11:36They only need to really
11:37remold a new head,
11:39and then they have to
11:40just essentially give them
11:40brand new clothing.
11:41I think even with
11:42the Ben Cooper,
11:43it's an even easier task
11:45for NECA to accomplish this
11:46because they probably
11:47are using, I'm sure,
11:48probably two or three
11:49different heads,
11:50and they're only just
11:50molding that and slapping
11:52on a brand new mask piece
11:53every single time
11:54and then giving a different
11:55bit of clothing.
11:56So it's certainly
11:56a more cheaper route
11:57that they could have gone.
11:58I can certainly then understand
12:00why they've produced
12:01as many as they have.
12:02For there, of course,
12:03the accessories,
12:03all of them are only
12:04going to really be coming
12:05include with their
12:05trick-or-treating bag
12:06or their bucket
12:07or their pail.
12:09Leatherface doesn't
12:09come include with a pail,
12:10which would have been
12:11really perfect
12:12because there would have
12:12been a place to store
12:13the extra hands,
12:14the extra arms,
12:15the limbs,
12:15and everything else
12:16he's cutting along the way
12:17while he's cutting in line
12:18to get to people's doorsteps.
12:19But at least he gets himself
12:20a pretty neat,
12:21nifty-looking trick-or-treating bag
12:23that says,
12:24have a happy Halloween massacre
12:26on the front,
12:26and him trying his best
12:27to carve a jack-o'-lantern
12:28with such very little
12:30new tooling that's required.
12:31I can certainly, though,
12:32understand why Neck
12:33is already into
12:34wave nine of these
12:34Ben Cooper kids
12:35just because, again,
12:36like the cost of producing them,
12:38they already have the body,
12:39they likely already
12:39have the head.
12:40All they really then
12:41have to do is
12:42re-sculpt brand new
12:43mask pieces
12:43that aren't removable
12:44in the first place
12:45and give the kids
12:46some clothing.
12:47Now, I can also see why
12:48not only was there
12:49wave nine of these,
12:50but with the price
12:51of what they generally
12:52are selling for,
12:53I picked these up,
12:53I picked up actually
12:54Leatherface,
12:54and I picked up
12:55a couple more.
12:55I paid only really
12:57about like $23 a piece
12:58for these,
12:59and that's not bad at all.
13:00For $23 to $25,
13:02yeah, you only get
13:02one figure with just
13:03a bag for,
13:04or a pail for an accessory,
13:06but I think, like,
13:07I can see the appeal
13:08of why collectors
13:09collect as many of these
13:10as they do.
13:11You know, with these,
13:12like with the Leatherface,
13:12there's clearly not
13:13an original nostalgic
13:15costume to base it from.
13:16Ben Cooper did a whole bunch
13:18of monster figure costumes,
13:19like from the 70s
13:20to the 80s.
13:21There was like Dracula's.
13:22Like I said,
13:23they've done a whole bunch
13:24of different cool
13:24monster costumes.
13:25They haven't done
13:26a Leatherface, though,
13:27but NECA's sort of
13:27taken the reins
13:28from what Ben Cooper
13:29designed in the first place
13:30and have run with it.
13:31So like what we're getting
13:32now with Wave 9,
13:33we're getting not only
13:34like the Leatherface,
13:35there's also been
13:35like the Pennywise,
13:36there's a Terrifier,
13:38there's a Jigsaw,
13:39and there's also
13:39a Michael Myers.
13:41Yeah, Michael Myers.
13:43But what do you guys
13:43think of these?
13:44Let me know down below
13:44in the comment section.
13:45Have you guys at all
13:45been collecting
13:46the Ben Cooper Kids
13:47collection?
13:48And if you have,
13:49let me know what
13:49you guys think of them.
13:50Also, let me know
13:51if you've ever,
13:52ever worn a Ben Cooper
13:54costume as a kid.
13:55I mean, again,
13:55I told you my story
13:56of in kindergarten,
13:57I was like nine,
13:58not five years old,
13:59five years old,
14:00and I wore myself
14:00a Masked Universe He-Man.
14:02It's funny, though,
14:02enough that my friend
14:03in school wore
14:04the exact same costume.
14:05He was smart, though.
14:06He didn't wear
14:07the mask to school.
14:08I wore my He-Man
14:09and ended up
14:09cracking the plastic.
14:11Very thin quality
14:12plastic molding.
14:13It was VAC plastic
14:15molding for the masks,
14:16and then it literally
14:17just was a sheet
14:18that you tied
14:18around the limbs.
14:20We didn't even have
14:20the benefit
14:21of a full costume either.
14:22I don't think,
14:23from what I remember,
14:24that He-Man
14:24was only just
14:25a front face.
14:26If anybody remembers
14:26the Ben Cooper
14:27kids' costume of He-Man,
14:29let me know
14:29if it was only
14:30just a front sheet.
14:31I feel like it was.
14:32It certainly wasn't
14:33the full sheet
14:34of green here
14:34for Leatherface.
14:35The Leatherface
14:36does have, again,
14:36like the basic body
14:37from the same
14:38trick-or-treaters
14:38at the three-pack,
14:39but again,
14:40like with a brand
14:40new head sculpt,
14:41different costume,
14:42it's kind of cool.
14:43I gotta admit,
14:44I like these,
14:44and I can certainly
14:45understand why
14:46collectors get
14:47as many as they do,
14:48and I can understand
14:49why also,
14:50unfortunately,
14:50to my wallet,
14:51I'm likely gonna be
14:52picking up more of these.
14:53If you guys did
14:54enjoy this video,
14:54you can do it a solid
14:55and throw it a like.
14:56You guys wanna stick around
14:57for more, so?
14:58I hope so.
14:58I hope so.
14:59We're not gonna be
15:00looking at Ben Cooper
15:00any more this week,
15:02at least,
15:02but I will tell you,
15:03though,
15:03we will be looking
15:04at more of these
15:04in the upcoming weeks
15:07leading up to Halloween.
15:09We'll be giving away here.
15:10But again,
15:11to make sure that
15:11you're not missing
15:11on anything,
15:12turn on the bell notification,
15:13make sure you hit
15:14the subscribe,
15:14that's the biggest
15:15crucial thing,
15:16and come back.
15:17We're always got
15:17new video content
15:18coming your way.
15:19As always,
15:19thanks for watching.
