00:00Hello, and welcome to Gangs All Here.
00:03My name is Ryan Sampson.
00:04That's my guy, Frankie Viterini from U-Stadium.
00:07We're doing an emergency episode of Gangs All Here because Woody Johnson opened his mouth
00:11and talked about his quarterback, Justin Fields, or you could say really took shots at Justin
00:18Fields, and he talked about his head coach, Aaron Glenn, and we're here to break it down
00:22on today's episode, but before I get to any of that, Frankie, how you doing today, buddy?
00:28Ryan, man, I'm doing well.
00:29I'm doing well.
00:30You know, there's never a dull moment with this team, man.
00:33You know, it's just a random Tuesday afternoon, beautiful weather still in New York.
00:38We're getting pretty lucky with the weather here, by the way, but man, this team, we just
00:42stay front page, don't we?
00:44Yeah.
00:44Year after year, we could be 0-7, the only team in football without a win.
00:49Everyone's still talking about us.
00:51Everyone's still talking about us, and of course, Woody Johnson had to find his moment to slip
00:55in and give his thoughts, and I'm sure a lot of people were interested to hear what his
00:59thoughts are, considering this season has already gone under, an 0-7 start.
01:04Playoffs are out, and ultimately, this team is looking dead bullseye at the number one pick
01:11in the draft if things continue to go the way they are.
01:14So let's get to it.
01:16You know, I'm going to have Juliana play the sound.
01:18This is Woody Johnson, Jets owner, talking about Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields.
01:23What's your confidence level in Aaron to turn it around?
01:28Well, it looks like he's turning around parts of it.
01:31You know, it's hard when you have a quarterback with, you know, with a rating that we've got,
01:38you know.
01:38I mean, he has the ability, but something just is not jiving.
01:41But if you look at any head coach or the quarterback like that, you're going to see similar results
01:47if you go across the league.
01:49You have to play consistently with, you know, at that position, and that's what we're going
01:56to try to do for the remainder of the season.
01:59So what gives you hope, then?
02:02I just think defense special teams are doing better.
02:05Defense is pretty good.
02:06And if we can just complete a pass, it would look good.
02:13You know, you've got to complete some pass.
02:14You've got to convince them that you can do something.
02:17Otherwise, it's hard to have, you know, have a game that you could win.
02:22Well, to be frank, if you did complete a pass, you would have a better chance at winning
02:27a football game.
02:27So I do agree with Woody Johnson saying there.
02:29But I'll toss to Frankie here and get his comments and thoughts about what Woody Johnson
02:33said about Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields.
02:36Ryan, did you know you have to complete passes, right, to win a football game?
02:41I don't know if you know this, but I just said that.
02:43Yeah, you do need to do that.
02:45Yeah, I agree with you.
02:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:47I didn't know if you were aware.
02:48Yeah, he's 100% right when he says that.
02:51Yeah, yeah.
02:52Truly unbelievable analysis by the owner of one of the wealthiest professional sports
02:59teams in the world.
03:01Let me just say this.
03:02He starts out that quote saying that Aaron Glenn's turned around parts of it.
03:09Has he?
03:09Has he actually turned around the defense?
03:12Ryan, you said it on our post game and let's call a spade a spade.
03:17You played Carolina who had their backup quarterback in Carolina's they're not world beaters by
03:23any stretch of the imagination.
03:25And you know how the London game goes.
03:27It's weird.
03:28It's it's different.
03:29It's overseas different time zones.
03:31Sometimes teams are flat.
03:33Denver's offense looks very flat.
03:35They actually very flat this past week too until the fourth quarter.
03:38Don't feed me that that Aaron Glenn at this point has turned around the defense and special
03:44teams based on Denver and London and Carolina who was projected to be a bottom five team coming
03:50into the season with their backup quarterback playing the whole second half.
03:54Don't feed me that please.
03:56So again, he's making excuses just like he just like he usually does.
04:02And his head coach always does.
04:04They're making excuses.
04:06This is an excuse saying, oh, don't worry.
04:09He turned around that the reason why the offense isn't turned around.
04:12Now he points the finger at Justin Fields.
04:15Justin Fields.
04:16He's the problem.
04:17He threw the guy right under the bus.
04:19Now listen, to be honest, he's he's right to a degree when he's talking about Justin Fields.
04:24He's right that they really can't complete a freaking pass.
04:29It's really that hard, especially negative 10.
04:32Yeah, yeah.
04:33It looks like it's impossible.
04:36You have a game 46 passing yards, 45, 27 passing yards.
04:39I mean, come on.
04:40That's that's inexcusable.
04:42But what is it really inexcusable because he loves to bring it up excuses is to throw a quarterback
04:48that you all paid and your head coach that you seem to always want to defend or he's always
04:54going to want to defend him today, defended him the entire time he was speaking, wanted
04:58to pay this guy $30 million guaranteed $40 million.
05:03He paid him 30 of that's guaranteed.
05:05Daniel Jones got less money than that, by the way.
05:09Regardless, this is like this is just this is tiresome, man.
05:13This team is just the same old I get no confidence here and stuff like that.
05:20He's clearly going to go down with the ship with Aaron Glenn as his captain.
05:26I mean, if you're not understanding that at this point, then I don't know what you're really looking for.
05:31This is going to be a long journey.
05:33Everyone, you better hope if you don't want Glenn here next year, you better hope something
05:37crazy happens like 0 and 17 or some breakdown in the press, you know, in a presser or something.
05:44Well, look, I think.
05:47You had to you had to wait for Woody's first response about how this season is gone and we
05:53got it today.
05:54I do wonder if he's done more damage than good today, which is typical for Mr. Johnson.
06:03I didn't love the fact that he burned Justin Fields like that publicly.
06:08That's not going to go over well, in my opinion, in the locker room, and it's probably not going
06:12to go over well with a lot of players in the league when they see an owner publicly bashing
06:17their player like that.
06:18It's typically not OK, Frankie, and I think that's why I have a more level headed approach
06:23here and response like, look, Justin was given an opportunity here by Aaron Glenn.
06:30Obviously, it has not worked out at all.
06:32The offense has been dreadful.
06:35It's one of the worst I've ever seen.
06:37The Jets make it difficult to watch football offensively, and that's saying something.
06:44And I think while Justin has really given every opportunity in other spots as well, and now
06:53here in New York, we kind of find out our answer that he's not a starting quarterback.
06:57He's not a viable starting quarterback in the NFL.
06:59But I would go back at Woody and say, look, you say it would help if our quarterback completed
07:04a pass.
07:05I think there's more to this, Frankie.
07:06I think it would help if the rookie offensive coordinator would have a better offensive scheme
07:11that fit around Justin's skill set.
07:13I wish they would call more more run plays to Brees Hall.
07:16I wish they would call more screen passes to Brees Hall.
07:18Use Brees Hall in the passing game.
07:21It would have helped if Aaron Glenn and Darren Mugi had drafted a better wide receiver earlier
07:26in the draft or had signed an actual wide receiver to this offseason after after cutting
07:32Devontae Adams.
07:33I think there was a lot of different ways the Jets could have helped surround Justin Fields
07:37a little bit more.
07:37But at the end of the day, we got the answer we know from the first seven weeks of this
07:42season.
07:43The bad part about this is that you might have hinted at he's giving his full support
07:49to Aaron Glenn.
07:50Now, I think a lot of Jets fans, there's a huge divide right now.
07:54I thought there was more on the side of, yes, fire Aaron Glenn after this year because of
07:58how bad it's going.
07:59I'm seeing a lot of it go the other way.
08:02And I'm seeing a lot of people firing back at these are hot take artists.
08:07People don't know what they're talking about.
08:09You have to give you have to be patient with Aaron Glenn.
08:11Look at what the Lions did with with Dan Campbell his first year.
08:14Look at what, you know, the I'm trying.
08:19I lost my other comparison.
08:21Jimmy Johnson.
08:21Jimmy Johnson.
08:22Yes.
08:22Tony Dungy.
08:23Tony Dungy.
08:24And then Kazza talked about yesterday.
08:27You can't forget what happened with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.
08:31They were really bad the first two years and they gave a ton of money to Jimmy Garoppolo
08:35to be their starting quarterback who got hurt the first year.
08:38And then remember, they were starting fourth, fifth, sixth round quarterbacks, nobodies.
08:44And it took them a while until eventually they landed Brock Purdy and they had obviously Jimmy
08:49Garoppolo go to the one Super Bowl.
08:52They were patient with him.
08:53And so I guess my question to you, Frankie, is the fact that Woody is backing up Aaron
09:00Glenn, while we may see as like, oh boy, he's going to ride and die with with Aaron.
09:06And maybe Woody deserves a little bit of, I don't know, credit to be patient with Aaron Glenn here.
09:17I mean, all right, let's get this out of the way because this is a conversation that needs to be had
09:24and it's important, right?
09:26It's ridiculous to think about firing a head coach after seven games in their first year.
09:33It is.
09:34It absolutely is.
09:36Let's just say it.
09:37We may want it.
09:38Fans may want it.
09:39People are talking about it.
09:40It's crazy.
09:42It's not fair to Aaron Glenn.
09:44It's not fair to Woody Johnson.
09:45It's not fair, to be honest.
09:47Let's just get that out of the way.
09:49That's wild talk.
09:51However, you cannot deny every single sign that you've seen from this head coach.
09:58And today, what you heard from your owner, that points in a direction that this is going to go completely off the rails and crash and burn.
10:07Every single sign is there.
10:09So we're foreshadowing a conclusion that we've seen before.
10:13And Woody Johnson also talked about the fans, Ryan.
10:16And he said on what he would say to the fans, that if they're true Jet fans, that's not a question you ask, whether you're a true Jet fan.
10:26Okay.
10:27They've been at it for a long time.
10:30They know exactly what's going on, which is kind of interesting to say.
10:34Like, we know exactly how crappy this situation is because we've been in this so many times.
10:39I think they're the smartest fans in the world because they know what's going on.
10:43What he's basically saying is, are we new to this?
10:47Is this something that we've never seen before?
10:50Oh, you're the smartest fans in the world.
10:52I'm going to pat you on the back and make you feel good about yourself if you feel like that was a little bit of a dig.
10:56Definitely.
10:57He's definitely he's paying in not panhandling.
11:00How would you describe it?
11:01I mean, he was.
11:02Yeah, he was kind of being like, oh, if Jets fans have been through this, they're the smartest fans in the NFL.
11:09Yeah, are you kidding me?
11:10Like, who are you guys?
11:10Who are you guys tasked with these questions?
11:12You think they don't know about the struggle?
11:15That's not something really that is a badge of honor you want to carry as an owner of a professional sports team.
11:22Like, oh, you guys know how bad we've been.
11:25We stink, but everyone knows it.
11:27You cannot run a team like this.
11:30You have to come out there today and say to everybody, this is unacceptable by any stretch of the imagination.
11:38The head coach needs to do a better job.
11:40I need to do a better job.
11:42You all come out and support us every week.
11:44And apparently they raised parking prices, whatever.
11:48I'm not going to get into that.
11:49But you all know the struggle, and I'm trying to fix that so this struggle is over.
11:55That's what you say.
11:56You don't go out and throw your quarterback to your head coach, the head honcho there, the guy with full autonomy of the team, wanted to bring in here.
12:03You don't throw him under the bus.
12:05The same head coach, by the way, that now you'll see it's going to come out pretty soon that Tyrod Taylor is going to be the starter.
12:11The same guy that told the New York Post sports beat reporter Brian Costello, what kind of question is that about benching him?
12:18Now it's okay to throw him under the bus, what, a week later, after two quarters?
12:23This has all the ingredients of this is pointing to a complete and utter disaster.
12:31And I am not feeling any better about myself as a Jeff fan or more confident in what they're trying to do there.
12:38Listen to some of these comments today, right?
12:40Right.
12:41I get you.
12:42I think I do have to, again, credit Woody, though.
12:46While I don't like him bashing, again, I have to say this, I don't like him bashing the quarterback.
12:51It's not smart.
12:52It's not a good way to go about business.
12:55And it's going to ruin relationships, in my opinion.
12:58I do like the fact that he is giving his vote of confidence in Aaron Glenn.
13:03And he's saying, you know, I believe in him still.
13:05Despite everything you're saying, Frankie, and all the signs pointing to, this is a coach who's just going through it right now.
13:11Uh, he's clearly in over his head and is figuring this out, how to be a head coach and how to run a program.
13:19Um, you know, what others quote is this quote here about Aaron, uh, from Woody about why he has a vote of confidence in him is I do believe in Aaron.
13:30If I were a player, I would respond to him because he's the real deal.
13:34There's no BS.
13:35There's no second agendas.
13:37What you're hearing is the truth.
13:39A lot of times players don't get the truth.
13:41They get a lot of gobbledygook.
13:43He threw gobbledygook in there.
13:45Um, that would be the best thing he said today.
13:48Yeah.
13:48I'm going to use that.
13:48Can I use that gobbledygook?
13:50I like that.
13:51I don't know, man.
13:51Like, I don't want to be overreactive at the same time because we had a lot.
13:55I had plenty of that this past week on the game itself.
13:59But looking forward, Frankie, it does feel like the sense, especially after today, is that Woody Johnson's going to give Aaron Glenn another year.
14:07Uh, even no matter how bad this season goes, even if they don't finish with a win, I think based off causes comments yesterday and what causes constantly preach to us is that this team has given Aaron Glenn a lot of money.
14:21They don't like paying people not to do their jobs, meaning firing them and then having to pay them.
14:28And you have to be patient with the head coach and give him an opportunity to build a program more than one year.
14:34You can't expect an instant turnaround.
14:36I think there's going to be a lot of, not finger pointing, but a lot of evaluation of the talent on this roster.
14:44And if, you know, you're going to be trading players here in the coming weeks before the deadline and then what you're going to be doing in the offseason.
14:50But we're heading towards a full, total rebuild, Frankie.
14:54That is what this is.
14:56Um, and I think Woody Johnson is just going to back Aaron Glenn on this.
15:00I mean, yeah, man.
15:02I mean, he said it that he hugs Aaron Glenn all the time, which is a weird thing to say, right?
15:08You imagine you're, you're, you're telling people, oh, I hugged this person all the time.
15:12Half the fans want him fired.
15:14Uh, now the other 40% want him fired after the season.
15:19Um, which I respect to a degree that he's supporting him like that.
15:22But on the other end, this is terrifying.
15:25This is terrifying because you know, based on his comments today, how much he believes in Aaron Glenn.
15:30And why it's terrifying is because I have no belief as a fan, as a pundit, whatever you want to call us, um, looking at this game, as long as I've looked at looking at head coaches that have been successful and specifically what we need more so to develop a quarterback.
15:45If more than anything, this regime and Aaron Glenn does not point to one that's going to be successful here.
15:53He's not going to change the scope of the misery that has been the New York jets over the last 15, 20, 50 years.
16:02So they right now, they have to do a lot to gain my confidence.
16:08That's it.
16:09I'm not going to just blindly support things because I want you to prove it to me.
16:15Yeah.
16:15This is terrifying today, Ryan, because I am starting to see a pattern of excuse making do not as the boss.
16:25Uh, Woody Johnson's the boss.
16:28Don't make excuses.
16:29Your quarterback's not the problem.
16:31Even Aaron Glenn's not the problem.
16:33It is the problem.
16:34Well, I mean, that is a problem.
16:37Yeah.
16:37I mean, that's, that's a deep dive into Woody himself and how he's run this team.
16:41There is no doubt, Frankie, like you're a hundred percent right.
16:44It, there is a clear problem at the top.
16:47And that is why you have more four wind seasons than actual winning record seasons into your,
16:53under your tenure as jets owner.
16:55That's insane.
16:56It's crazy.
16:57But if he wants to truly let this team change its culture and rebuild, you do have to give,
17:06you have to be more patient.
17:07And that's what I'm finding out right here.
17:08Frankie is that we can't be so reactionary to what the season is right now and that we
17:14have to ultimately embrace.
17:16It's going to be a tank this year.
17:18They're going to get a high draft pick, possibly the number one pick draft, the quarterback of
17:22the future, and hopefully build around that quarterback to let them lead us out of the
17:26darkness.
17:27Cause that is the jets only chance right now.
17:31You took the words out of my mouth.
17:32I was going right there.
17:34You know, the New York jets and this franchise, it's going to come on the shoulders of one of
17:39these three or four quarterbacks coming out.
17:42Fernando Mendoza.
17:43Are you going to be the savior here?
17:44Dante Moore is a, you man.
17:47Great.
17:47You're out of Oregon.
17:48Ty Simpson out of Alabama.
17:49Is it you?
17:50That's what this is going to come down to really that we need a quarterback that comes in
17:55here that gives everyone on offense confidence that allows the defense to be able to get
18:01off the field and then come in and play fast and hot.
18:05Again, he talked about what he parts are being fixed.
18:09I still don't see the defense forcing turnovers.
18:11We have one turnover.
18:13It's not there yet.
18:13Special teams.
18:14The second lowest team is three.
18:16Yeah.
18:17As much has been better, but Ryan, what is special teams?
18:19Nick Fox going to make field goals.
18:21It's not like we're, we're this, this, this team that's returning the ball 50 yards, you
18:27know, every other quarter.
18:28So yeah.
18:28Is it as bad as it was?
18:30No, but it's not turned around yet.
18:32But, um, what we'll turn this around is exactly what you're bringing up, right?
18:37It's going to have to be a quarterback.
18:38So hopefully we're, we're, we're in a position of one that can complete a pass.
18:43Yeah.
18:46I can't believe, you know what it's, I like that he, all right.
18:50To a degree.
18:51I like that.
18:52He's coming out there and just like being honest.
18:54He's kind of like, he's got a, you know, he's a little bit of a politician or he is a
18:59politician.
18:59He's a politician.
19:01He's a politician.
19:02Yeah.
19:02He's like, you know, completing balls.
19:03That's how you win football games.
19:04Like, you know, I don't know if he was trying to be a little funny there.
19:08I hope he was to a degree.
19:09I think he was being a little sarcastic, but again, your quarterback who's under contract
19:13for next year heard that.
19:16Yeah.
19:17It's not great.
19:17Yeah.
19:18It's not great.
19:19I'm just telling you right now, it's not going to go over well in the locker room.
19:23We all know about Woody not liking Tony Adams.
19:26We all know he doesn't like Justin Fields.
19:28Now makes you wonder how many players really want to come play for this guy.
19:32If he's going to publicly bash you like that.
19:34So food for thought.
19:36Ultimately though, Woody Johnson spoke, gave his confidence in Aaron Glenn and publicly
19:42bashed his quarterback, Justin Fields.
19:44It's most likely going to be Tyrod Taylor from what we understand next week.
19:47Frankie and I will be here all season long to break it down after the games and do discussions
19:52like this.
19:52When we get news.
19:54Oh, you were awesome.
19:54After the game that that post game was on fire.
19:57I really, I enjoyed doing that post game.
19:59I know you, I know you thought you might've went a little crazy, but it was good.
20:04It was good.
20:04It's all going to play out in front of us.
20:07Yep.
20:07And then we'll just keep right in front of us.
20:09It's right in front of us and we'll figure it out.
20:12Frankie, I appreciate you, buddy.
20:13And we'll catch you next time.
20:14Okay.
20:14I appreciate you.
20:14I appreciate you.
