01:53And the area around it is well known for ghostly activity throughout the centuries.

02:01The team have been called in to investigate reports of paranormal activity by the owner of this 18th century castle.

02:24It's the home of aristocrat, author and reality TV star, Lady Colin Campbell, otherwise known as Lady C.
02:34I fell in love with Castle Goring the very first time I saw it.
02:39It is a love story.
02:42This castle throbs with history.
02:45When it comes to the paranormal, I am very open-minded.
02:50I'm definitely not a skeptic.
02:52Nothing has ever disturbed me in this place.
02:57I do know that people say that they have heard things, that they have seen things.
03:05For instance, we had an event here.
03:09And afterwards, somebody came up to me and said she could see me being followed.

03:17I mean, I don't expect to see anyone.
03:20And if there is somebody in another dimension, I think it would be rather crass of me to look around to see if I'm going to get a glimpse of them.
03:28One would have to come to the conclusion that possibly there are people who have some link to this castle and have fondness for it.

05:46So there's something over here that I do feel drawn to.
05:53It's almost like a mist, like a shadow.

06:04There's a really quick drop of temperature when you walk from that passageway into here, into this room.
06:09There's definitely what I would say is a female's energy connected to this room.
06:22And I feel that lots of people have seen her or sensed her.
06:30But this lady is so strong.
06:31But this lady is so strong, she loves this house.
06:34And I think she roams around all this property.
06:39I'm doing some research into the history of the castle to see if it can help explain some of the things that are going on here.
06:47So Castle Goring has quite an intriguing history.
06:52Construction began in the 1790s and it actually took over 15 years to build.
06:57It was built by the Shelley family for a famous poet, Percy Shelley, and his wife, Mary Shelley.
07:05But they didn't live there.
07:06Percy tragically drowned when he was just 29.
07:09So in 1835, she had to sell the castle to Sir George Brooke Puschell.
07:16It's quite a common name.
07:19But somebody called George has just shouted from that direction over there, looking this way.
07:27But I don't think he's shouting at me.
07:31And the only reason I know it's George is because this female shouted back and used that name.
07:38So I feel I need to go in that direction and see where he goes or where he's leading me to.

07:54Somebody's just tucked on my coat in here.
08:02As I walked from the doorway and I touched this mat here, somebody just did this.
08:09I felt like there was a strong tug.
08:11So this female, even though the male kind of walked within this area, this female is trying to get my attention.

08:27I've come to meet Lady C's friend, Lisa, who's had some very interesting experiences here in the castle.
08:36We had a famous music mogul here and he brought his, I can't remember if it was a partner or the wife then.

08:46Then on the way out she took me to one side and she said, do you believe in spirits?
08:51It's just that there's a lady following you around and she's been with you the whole time.
08:54We had a dinner party here recently and a couple of members of the royal family were here and they both say exactly the same.
09:02There's a presence here.
09:04It's a, it's a, we'll say it's a female presence because we've always talked about it as a female.
09:09The only thing is a strange coincidence as well that everybody that's approached yourself and told you about this spirit are all women.

09:18So there is a strong connection, isn't there, between this female energy at Castle Goring and other women that are present in the property.

09:29This is the room over here that I were drawn to from downstairs.

09:38And when you just touch the glass, I can just smell her scent.
09:49You're reading things through energy, through my fingertips and it's like a vibration.
09:55If I close my eyes, I feel this lady is a strong connection to this house and she walks around this house.
10:04Having learnt some interesting things from Lisa, I've met up with Lily, who often works here at the castle.
10:12So Lily, you've had paranormal experiences at Castle Goring. Can you tell me a little bit about what's going on?
10:18Yeah, of course. So I have helped Lady C with some events, some charity events, and Lady C has two King Charles Spaniels.
10:26And what I always noticed is that in the central drawing room, the dogs continuously bark at the window and it's the most weirdest thing.
10:39The castle's a huge place, so isn't it interesting that the dogs would pick one particular room to be focused on?
10:46Absolutely, yeah. And that's what I think drew my attention because it is this window that this dog is completely fixated on.
10:54So explain to me how you feel when you approach the drawing room, for example.
10:59It feels like I'm being kind of watched and observed from afar because it's quite an unnerving feeling sometimes.
11:07There's something not right with this door.

11:16This room just takes your breath.
11:18I feel quite insecure in this room.
11:24There's just something dark about this room that makes me feel really uncomfortable.
11:29And I feel the longer you stay in there, the more uncomfortable you become.
11:35It's almost like the room's closing in on me.
11:37This is the epicentre of this building.
11:45I feel really sorry for Mary Shelley.
11:48She lost three children really young and then, of course, her husband, Percy.
11:53They couldn't live in this beautiful castle that had been built supposedly as their family home.
11:58Now, like lots of large houses of this type during World War II, it was requisitioned by the Canadian Army.
12:05So it would have had troops there at some time.
12:08This is just fascinating.
12:09There are loads of layers of history.
12:12I think we've got to work with her.

19:33which uses structured light to capture spirit presences invisible to the naked eye.

34:40After you left us, we moved into the card room.
34:43So we started using an application using word banks and phonetic sounds, parts of words that the spirits are able to manipulate in order to communicate with us electronically.
34:54And we do think this was Mary Shelley.
34:57And we asked Mary, you know, we asked for her name and I think we got a response saying Mary.

35:39Now, we were all together at this point and we felt that Jane might be better suited to spend time alone in the building.
35:47And the reason for that was because all of the experiences that I had heard about during the course of the investigation and the research seemed to happen to women.
35:56Women seemed to have this affinity with the other female energies in the house.
36:01So Jane was left alone.
36:03I went back into the card room and I was using, this is a different device but I want to just play these words for you.
36:11You'll hear a couple of beeps first.
36:14That means that the device has detected a change in the atmosphere and a word is about to be projected.

36:34Well, I did some further research on Mary Shelley actually in the middle of the night after hearing all of this and I discovered of course that she actually had quite a tragic life.
36:47Terrible.
36:48She had lost.
36:49A young child just a few days old, her second child just a few months and then at just three and a half years old her son William as well all by the age of 21.
37:02Absolutely tragic.
37:03Now I didn't know at the time but William actually died on the 7th of June and we had the number seven twice during the evening including in this session along with the month of June.
37:19Now William actually contracted malaria while travelling.
37:23We had the word contract and when I asked about the significance of the number seven the word took.
37:31He was taken from her and so kind of knowing that sad piece of her history.
37:38And he was her golden boy.
37:40Yeah.
37:41Can I just jump in there actually?
37:43On the back of what Jane's just said about young William and the golden boy.
37:48During our spirit triggers session in the card room I also captured a figure stood next to you, the child holding their hand.
37:58I believe that this could well have been Mary Shelley and her son William.

38:07So what you can see there are two stick figures, two spirit anomalies but the larger one seems to be holding the smaller one's hand momentarily but they're stood by your side as you're talking.
38:17And there is a very strong connection with yourself and Mary Shelley I believe.
38:24I mean we talked didn't we about strong female energy and whether maybe whoever this female may be whether she feels some kind of connection with you.
38:36Well it would be very nice if she did and modesty alone would prevent me from embracing that concept too firmly because one might then be accused of puffing oneself of unduly so.
38:51Now after Jane finished her solo challenge in the property Ian and I met up downstairs and we decided to investigate the ground floor bedroom that's there.
39:03Oh yes.
39:04And that's because Ian had experienced during his walk around something kind of strange.
39:09Or detail.
39:10Yeah really interesting soon as I walked into the room my jacket was tugged really hard and it's almost like somebody says I'm here you know trying to get my attention.
39:22So all three of us moved into the bedroom and we were calling out and asking who is the spirit why did you tug Ian's jacket can you show yourself all of the common questions you'd expect.
39:34We got extremely loud knocking sounds bangs and thuds in direct response to the questions we were asking and here's an example of just one of them.

39:56That was my response.
39:59I was shocked to be honest with you and it did take us by surprise because it was so loud and it sounded like it was coming from an internal wall.
40:06It was it was a really funny sound.
40:09What was more remarkable is we captured the bedroom door opening on its own.
40:15So this is what we captured it's really interesting.
40:18Do you know the funny thing let me just explain something.
40:22You can clearly see the doors now open.
40:24Yes.
40:25I can attest the fact that there was no one else in the corridor.
40:30I opened and checked none of the crew were out there.
40:33The door opened on its own and it was filmed by Jeremy who just just captured it and he's like oh my god.
40:41I think it's giving you a message.
40:43I think for us ladies see the overriding message and experience was that we didn't uncover anything sinister or anything to worry about.
40:54Or even anything that needed passing over or moving on or anything like that with Mary Shelley.
41:02And the fact that the reason we feel she is here and wants to be here is that quite sad energy that she carries with her over no doubt the loss of her children.
41:16But the loss of this house as well.
41:19Well she had a very sad life and she had a very troubled life and she had a very difficult life.
41:27I feel she loved this house she didn't want to let it go.
41:31And what I'd like to do is you and I if that's okay to go into the card room and I'd like you to welcome Mary Shelley back into this house.
41:42I just feel there's a connection and a strong connection and I think it will make her very happy.
