10:50And I know that locals that walk up and down this lane do say, you know, they feel a presence,
10:56especially the presence of a woman, who we think may have died in a quarry accident.

11:04Descriptions vary.
11:06Some people say she's headless.
11:08But apparently, Jane, if you look into her eyes, she would die that same year.

11:15So, she's a bit of a harbinger of death.

11:18Well, hopefully, she won't make an appearance while we're here.

12:32Paul's husband, Graham, has already told me about the smell of smoke and seeing a fleeting female figure.
12:42But I'm interested in hearing more details of the apparitions they've experienced.
12:47Has there been any occasion when yourself and Paul have been a little bit scared or intimidated by the energy in the house?
12:51The only time, I think, was when I woke up and saw this figure at the end of the bed.
12:58It was very much the outline of something rather than something in detail.
13:04It was black and there was a distinct presence about whatever it was.

13:10The gut feel I had was that he was a male form, whatever it was.

13:16I'd be guessing, two, three o'clock in the morning.
13:18So when did it occur to you that you'd just seen a ghost?
13:21Initially, I thought, am I dreaming?

13:25And this presence, whatever it was, was still there.
13:28And I thought, he's awake, he can see it, I can see it, this isn't a dream.
13:32So the activity that you guys experience at the house, does it always occur at night?

14:34I'm feeling quite relaxed at this moment in time, but I wasn't when I stood at the end of the bed, I felt very emotional.
14:43So I think this room's going to be an amazing room to investigate to try and find out who that is and why they're here.
14:52I'm with historian Michaela Hugh, who shed light on a female figure that haunts a bridge near Paul's home.
14:58But I wonder if there's a more direct connection to the property.
15:03Do you know anything about the property itself?
15:05Yeah. So the house itself was rented to a guy called George Fleet, who was a stonemason.
15:10After George died, the house was taken over by his son, John, and he married a lady called Mary in the 1860s, and they went on to have several children.
15:20But sadly, in 1878, two of his three daughters and his wife died of TB.
15:28How tragic. So what were the names of Mary's daughters?
15:33So there was nine-month-old Miriam and 11-year-old Martha.
15:39And they're all buried together with their mum in the local cemetery, not too far from here.
15:44Oh, my goodness. TB was really feared by Victorians, wasn't it?
15:49Because it was one of the biggest killers, I believe.
15:52It was passed really easily. So it was passed through coughs and sneezes.
15:54So if one person got it in the household, the likelihood is somebody else would.
15:59One of the early symptoms would be coughing up blood, chest pains, fever, fatigue, you know, real sorts of tiredness.
16:08It was a dreadful illness to get.
16:11We know from the records that actually his wife, Mary, was starting to show symptoms of TB the year before, while she was pregnant.
16:17So I imagine then for Mary, as a mother, watching your baby and your 11-year-old daughter going through these horrible, horrible symptoms, she must have felt helpless and desperate.
16:31It must have been really, really tough.
16:33Something that they experience in the house is an outline of what they describe as a woman in the house.
16:40Given what you've told me about Mary Fleet, I'm wondering whether it could be her.

26:37Now this is where they saw the outline of what they believe is a feminine energy.
26:42The fourth camera is in the hallway entrance, so that's looking up the stairs.
26:47I've placed camera number five upstairs on the landing.
26:50And that's where I could smell the smoke.
26:53Camera number six is upstairs in the blue bedroom, which is actually one of the oldest parts of the house as well.
26:58And that's where I could sense some emotion with a female.

27:05Now this is where Paul and Graham were startled in the middle of the night seeing a figure looming over them in their bed.

42:05and we were using a device called an Alice ITC box.
42:09It's computerized words that are in there.
42:11The theory is that spirits can manipulate those
42:14to bring forward messages.
42:16We were using motion-activated cat balls.
42:19They're toys that light up if they're disturbed,
42:22if they're touched.
42:23And you do have to actually move them in order
42:25to get a response from them.
42:26At this moment in time, one of them starts flashing.
42:29I'm not surprised.
42:30And why aren't you surprised?
42:32Because Graham heard a noise on the landing,
42:35and he said that was definitely a click or a bang or something
42:40on the landing.
42:41That's interesting because the cat ball went off,
42:44but we had one of our fixed rig infrared cameras on the landing,
42:48so we actually captured that moment.
42:50I just had a feeling, Paul, like there was something walking
42:53across that landing.
42:54So when I looked out, you could clearly see this ball was flashing.
42:58There's a huge spike in the EMF right there.

43:03So there was somebody walking across the landing.
43:05And just as we were leaving the blue bedroom
43:07to go and investigate what was going on in the landing,
43:10the Alice box device went off again and said this.

43:27We actually made our way down to your master bedroom at this point.
43:30When we went into your master bedroom,
43:32I sat on the edge of the bed there,
43:35and as I was sat there, it felt like the bed vibrated just very slightly.
43:40Well, Graham will tell you that he has experienced
43:43an evening when he felt there was somebody sat on our bed.
43:49Well, that's interesting because on my walk around,
43:51I stood at the bottom of the bed looking towards the headboard,
43:54saying there's a gentleman stood here looking towards the bed.
43:59And I think that was John.
44:03It was a man.
44:04It was John looking at you both.
44:06The spirits sometimes do these things,
44:08not to scare you, but to get attention.
44:10And that's what he was trying to do.
44:12We wanted you to see him to try and seek help
44:15and reunite him with his family.
44:16That's what he wanted.
44:18We all suddenly smelt something.
44:21The smell of tobacco.
44:22I've smelt it a lot.

44:26I mean, literally two or three times a month.

44:57whether or not John, Mary, why they were here, did they need help,
45:01why they needed help, and to decide on whether we need to bring them together.

46:03And they reunited.
46:05They just missed each other and they wanted to be together.
46:08And John wanted to see his children again.
46:13And that's what we did.
46:14And they're at peace.
