05:17As soon as you walk into this property, the property's buzzing with really hyper energy.
05:22Straight away, I'm instantly drawn to a child stood on the top of that stairs,
05:27and she's just stood smiling at me.
05:28She's active spirit, so she will be able to communicate with me.
05:32And there's something drawing me to this room on my right, so I'm going to walk into here.
05:40There's definitely an energy of a spiritual animal in here.
05:44I just see something running out the corner of my eye.
05:50I can still hear the child on top of the landing on the staircase.
05:53She's still there trying to get my attention.
05:56There's a spirit walking around, but something just doesn't feel right.
06:00It feels a little bit sinister.
06:02But it's definitely a male presence that's making me feel really uncomfortable.
06:08I've come to meet local historian Barry O'Brien, who I'm hoping can give me some information about
06:13Aaron's house and the area around it.
06:16The house that we're investigating is on Folkestone Road.
06:21What can you tell me about that?
06:22Well, Folkestone Road had been a King's Highway since the 13th century.
06:27So it was a well-worn route to the nearest town of Folkestone.
06:32And obviously with all of that, the small hamlets and villages that were already there
06:37all became absorbed by the town of Dover.
06:39And that then spread up the Folkestone Road towards Maxton, which is the area you're looking at.
06:44I can spy some maps here. What have we got?
06:46Yeah, so Maxton originated as Maxton Manor, which goes back a long, long way.
06:53And eventually passed into the hands of a well-known family called Worthington.
06:57One of the Worthington families was a very, very successful wine merchant in the town.
07:03And when he had Maxton Manor, he built a brewery alongside the Diamond Brewery that you see there.
07:10Now, sometimes we find that there have been significant events in places where houses now stand.
07:17Do you know of anything that happened at Diamond Brewery?
07:19Oh, well, a lot of things happened there, but one of the most notorious things that happened there
07:24was when one of the foremen working there was bitten by a rabid dog.
07:28There was a big outbreak of rabies throughout the town.
07:31He was a worker at the brewery, and he was out in the yard at 3am one morning,
07:37found a gate open and a strange dog inside. So he tried to throw something at it to shoo it away,
07:43but instead the dog leapt at him, bit him above the eye.
07:47He went to a chemist, and the chemist said there wasn't anything to worry about.
07:51Now, didn't they used to call rabies hydrophobia because of the fear of drinking water in the later stages?
07:58That's correct, yeah, yeah.
07:59So they'd be foaming at the mouth. Presumably the body's kind of overcompensating for that.
08:03He starts to convulse.
08:04You go into fits. Not a very pleasant disease to have.
08:08Eventually he developed delirium and tried to commit suicide,
08:13tried to throw himself out of a window, and took six people to restrain him.
08:18And a week later, unfortunately, he was declared beyond help and died of rabies.
08:25And he was dead within a week?
08:26Yeah, yeah.
08:27Oh, my God. Where this happened? I mean, I'm looking here at the brewery,
08:31and it is literally slap bang where our house is. So I think this is something we need to consider
08:36during our investigation. Oh, thank you.
08:44As you're travelling upstairs, you can feel the energy changing, and it feels
08:47more sinister, the higher I go, or more uncomfortable.
08:57Wherever I go, I feel this little girl following me around. It's almost like she's trying to counteract
09:04that negative feeling I've got towards this property.
09:07Then I'm drawn to this room here, which is obviously the bathroom.
09:16Energy. So the interesting thing about this room here is, once again, is it the little girl?
09:22Is it poltergeist activity? Because we've got water, and it wouldn't shock me
09:28if spirit doesn't mess around with this, because anything poltergeist will love playing with water.
09:35Because it's energy. It's just all energy.
09:40I've come to the local pub to meet Aaron's fiancée, Charlotte, and find out what she's experienced
09:46in the house. So tell me what's been going on in your home. A couple of things. The main thing
09:52that sticks in my mind is the bathroom tap. It's quite a stiff tap to turn on, but it's just been on
09:58twice now, just running. On this own accord? Yeah.
10:04I haven't been upstairs. I've come up the stairs, heard the water running,
10:13and gone in the bathroom and had to turn it off. And there's no way this could have
10:17been one of the children or anyone else? No, they were downstairs with me at the time, yeah.
10:21The girls have had this aerial doll, and she sings. And I was in bed one night,
10:26and about quarter past eleven, it woke me up because it was singing in the bathroom. No way.
10:35And I just laid there, froze in bed, and I was like, no. And then it stopped. So I was like,
10:40okay. But then it went off again. So I got up, turned all the lights on, and obviously there was
10:46nothing. So I went downstairs and I threw this doll out the front door.
10:52So tell me, how did this doll turn on by itself?
10:55Um, she has a little button on her chest, and you physically have to push it in,
10:58and then she sings. Wow. So something or someone had to have pressed the button?
11:03Yeah. That's really creepy. Yeah.
11:05Yeah, that freaks me out. Okay, so how would you explain that?
11:08I couldn't. The girls were asleep, Aaron was out, and yeah, I was in bed.
11:14In your home, where do you feel most uncomfortable?
11:19The top floor, our third floor, yeah. I don't often go up there.
11:24But when I'm up there, especially on my own, I don't like to be up there too long.
11:27What do you think is up there? I don't know. I suppose where I always want to check over my shoulder,
11:33I feel like there might be something looking at me. So then if we do come into contact with
11:38spirits in your home tonight during the investigation, how do you want us to deal with them?

12:38this represents what I'm feeling in this space right now, this anger. And this dark, uncomfortable feeling energy.
12:48So this piece of artwork that the homeowner's done is quite dark. It's grimacing. You can see
12:57clearly by his face that he is almost screaming at you. And I feel like he's been overshadowed by this
13:04dark entity. What's in this space in this room up here. And it's imposing on him while he's doing it. And that's a weird thing.
13:14I feel quite sick up here. And you know the crazy thing about the homeowner don't even feel that.

13:35Now we've all finished the initial part of our investigation, Barry and I head back to the house
13:40to meet Ian and reveal to him who lives there.

25:42As Aaron leaves his house for the night,
25:45I take Jane and Ian into the nerve centre
25:48to talk them through how I've set up the cameras for the investigation.
25:53As you can see, I've set up eight infrared cameras across the property.
25:57And we've got three floors to cover.
25:58So camera number one is outside in the garden.
26:01This is looking towards the back of the property.
26:04Camera number two is located here in the kitchen or nerve centre.
26:08And the reason for that is because the dimmer switch in this kitchen
26:12has gone off by itself.
26:14Camera number three is in the lounge area.
26:16Camera number four is upstairs, and this is in the hallway.
26:19So you've got a shot there of the bathroom and also the stairs leading up to the second floor.

26:26Yeah, I was very aware of a gentleman walking around there and also the little girl as well.
26:30We need to bear in mind that this gentleman's name, the guy who died from rabies,
26:35was James, James Whaley.
26:36He was 37 when he died, which brings us to 1877.
26:42So just a few dates for us to think about.
26:44Camera number five is actually in that bathroom, in that haunted bathroom.
26:48That's where Charlotte and Aaron have both experienced the tap being pulled up,
26:52going off full blast by itself.
26:55Camera number six is in the bedroom, also on the first floor.
26:59The seventh camera is upstairs on the top floor, and this is in the DJ room.
27:04But it's looking into Aaron's art room.
27:08And that's one creepy place.
27:11And the eighth and final infrared camera is actually in the art room.
27:14It's a high-positioned camera.
27:15This is giving us a really good perspective of that room,
27:18so we can see anything coming in and out of any of those doors.
27:21So where should we start, guys?
27:22I think let's go back to the lounge and then work our way up.

27:28We're beginning by using a spirit box, which sweeps radio frequencies.
27:38So I'll run both channels, so we'll have AM and FM frequency going.
27:43To hopefully communicate with the child spirit Ian sensed earlier.
