01:47This area played host to several bloody battles in the Civil War.
01:51And also suffered hugely during the Great Plague.
01:54So the case that we're investigating is just outside of Colchester.
01:58It's in a place called Boxted Village.

02:04Our team have been called to investigate reports of paranormal activity in this new build property.

02:25Ever since I was young, I've always thought like weird things happen around me.
02:30My first ever kind of encounter with anything is when I was like seven or eight.
02:35I used to lay in bed and I was awake.
02:37I wasn't even dreaming.
02:38And I used to be able to hear like really vivid army.
02:43I was called sergeant or corporal and stuff like that.
02:46And I wouldn't even know that at seven.
02:48So it was quite a scary, scary time.
02:52I've kind of lived in four or five different addresses.
02:55And there seems to always be something there.
02:59And it can't be just I'm moving into haunted houses every time.
03:03That's what I'm thinking.
03:04So, yeah, I'm thinking that maybe it is me.
03:07I've moved into this house in 2019.
03:10And yeah, it's lovely.

03:13But it is a new build.
03:14So, it was probably the one house that I thought when we did move in that nothing would ever happen.
03:20And how wrong was I?

03:29I'd like to think that it was people that's close to me that have passed over 15 years ago.
03:38I lost my dad and then 10 years my little brother.
03:40He was only 19 when he passed.
03:42So, I'm thinking that if there was anybody that would come visit me, it would be those two.
03:46But, yeah, it's definitely getting a lot more.
03:49So, that's why I wanted to get you guys in to help me out.
03:57Lots of the land around the cities may well have seen its fair share of turmoil,
04:03fighting battles over the years because these large fields that surround the cities are often sites of mass death.
04:10And that's quite interesting that you're talking about the land, Jane,
04:13because I feel this property is going to have some significance with land around this house.

05:29I do feel there's some spirit here that is trying to get the homeowner's attention.
05:42And already, I feel I want to look down at my feet and see what I'm stood on.
05:47So, it's definitely land that's causing this problem.
05:54And in the distance, I can just hear, like, metallic noises like gunshots, battles and things like that.
06:02So, the surrounding area must be seeped in history.
06:06I've come into Colchester, which is about five miles from Jake's house,
06:11and meet historian Penny Griffith Morgan, who I've worked with on a few cases over the years.
06:16So, this was originally a church, and it's known as St Mary's.
06:20It was actually where, during the Siege of Colchester in 1648, part of the Civil War,
06:27where the Royalists encamped in Colchester to try and protect themselves from the parliamentarians.
06:34So, how about the surrounding area, then, Penny?
06:37Because the property we're interested in is in Boxted Village.
06:40Yep.
06:41Did that have any involvement at all?
06:43Well, interestingly enough, it did.
06:45Where it says Hill Farm there is roughly where the house is that you're talking about.
06:50Oh.
06:51But during the Civil War, some of the troops wanted to try and go north of Colchester
06:56to meet up with the northern support that was coming down.
06:59They hired a miller to guide them, and he deliberately got them lost.
07:05And that's how they ended up in Boxted.
07:07And here is a diagram of the Battle of Boxted Heath.
07:12How many died, do we know?
07:13We don't know for sure, but we do have a diary from one of the participants,
07:19and he wrote that they left in each little group with around 200 men,
07:24and his group limped back, is what he actually says, with only 100.
07:30And when they were doing some work in 1925 in Hill Farm, they found a fake room.
07:36And they found that the ceiling, there was a hole in the ceiling,
07:40and they prodded at the ceiling, the ceiling caved in,
07:43and down fell the body of a Cavalier soldier dressed as a roundhead.
07:47His head coming separately.
07:49A real skeleton of a soldier?
07:51A real skeleton still in his breastplate and everything else.
07:53That's like a horror film. So he didn't have his head?
07:58They think it had fallen off, whether it was cut off
08:01or whether it just fell off because the body had decayed.
08:04We don't know, but it came down separately, shall we say.

08:43as if it wasn't here.

09:29I've come to meet Jake's mum, Lisa, to find out more about his childhood
09:35and get her thoughts on what's happening in his house.

09:42And you've had some experiences, I suppose, while Jake was growing up.

09:53And it was as though he was reliving a past life.

10:41My mum died just a few weeks before Oliver.

10:47Oliver was diagnosed with his bone cancer.

24:28There's nothing to explain the pain, and it was in my head.

24:32And that's why I asked that question, because normally what happens in your past life, you can experience them conditions now in your new life.

24:39You've experienced that in your new life, that you got shot.
24:42Obviously, a lot has happened, Jake, in the short amount of time that you've been with us.

24:58And I think it validates your mum's theory, you know, that she had since you were a kid, that you did have a past life as potentially a Civil War soldier.

25:35It's really rare, isn't it, to have someone's past life have such an impact on paranormal activity in their home now.

25:42I've got seven cameras located across the property.
25:44Starting on the ground floor, camera number one is in the kitchen area.
25:47The ground floor for me is about the land.
25:50That's where I could sense plague victims, soldiers.
25:53The second camera is located in the hallway.
25:55Camera number three is in the living room.
25:58This is where we did that regression.
26:00Moving upstairs, camera number four is located at the top of the stairs looking down.
26:05The fifth camera is located in Freddy's bedroom.
26:08I felt quite anxious and nervous in that room.
26:11The sixth infrared camera is positioned in Leo's bedroom.
26:15And I've placed the final camera upstairs in the master bedroom.
26:18And that's where the energy changed for me.
26:20It became quite emotional and I felt that I made contact with his family.
