02:27The team have been called in to investigate reports of paranormal activity in this 1930s home.

02:38TV personality Frankie Essex, reality star of The Only Way is Essex, has lived here for over 20 years.
02:46I love this house. I've lived here ever since I was little girl, since I was nine years old.
02:52I know there's things in this house.
02:55A hundred percent, aren't I?
02:58One time I was in the kitchen, I literally just saw an arm, that tap on the window, and then I thought it was my dad.
03:06So I've, like, run into the living room and I'm like, Dad, what are you doing? Why would you do that?
03:10He's like, what do you mean? It weren't me.
03:12And I, like, quickly looked out the kitchen door and, like, the gate was closed, there was no one there.
03:17Really, really weird.
03:19And I've seen, like, a white shadowy type of thing in literally the same corner.
03:25Or it was always, like, at the back of the house when I didn't come to think of it.
03:30Christmas Day, no one was in the kitchen, and we just had a massive crash.
03:38But no one was actually in the kitchen.
03:40My younger brother, Joey, was on the stairs filming himself.
03:44I'm in the front room with my friend, and everyone got kind of rushed in there.
03:49You're not eating potatoes on the floor.
03:51You're eating cat food.
03:52It's weird.
03:53Wait, I'm not waiting any longer for my roast dinner.
03:54This is ridiculous.
03:57All the potatoes, gone.
03:59And the roast potatoes were on the floor in the cat food.
04:02How did the roast potatoes fall off the side?
04:04Like, how did that happen?
04:05The lights in my bedroom, which is at the back of the house, flicker, and as do they in my now-dressing room.
04:14But it was Joey's old bedroom as a little boy, and he used to hate sleeping in that room.
04:20He was, like, scared to sleep in that room.
04:23And my mum always used to put it down to, oh, because his bedroom ain't been done up yet.
04:27But maybe it weren't.
04:28Maybe it was because something was lurking around.
04:31Medium Ian insists he's told nothing about the case, so he knows he's receiving a genuine spirit message.
04:40I'm aware of somebody either drowning or having a connection near water.

04:51It's almost like they've had an attachment or some things just kind of cling to them from a haunted location, maybe.

05:10This spirit would kind of have haunted a location and then found them and clinged onto them and then moved home with them.

06:12As soon as you walk into the hallway, I'm very drawn to the kitchen area.
06:16Just pow, the energy is pulling me into there straight away.
06:20It's quite interesting.
06:26As soon as you walk into here, I do feel that there would have been some form of poltergeist activity in here, certainly things moving.
06:34And it's almost as if something's trying to get somebody's attention.
06:40I just feel that I want to reach out into the garden.
06:47Almost like this is not a window here for some reason.

06:50To help put this case together, I've come to meet local historian Pellie Griffiths-Morgan.

07:08Well, all around here is what we have left of Epping Forest.
07:12And back in its day, there was 60,000 acres of forest.
07:16Huge area.
07:18Huge.
07:18So actually, the house that we're interested in would have been part of this huge forest, the land that it's built on.
07:27It would have been indeed, yeah.
07:28One of the reasons it started being deforested was because they needed more arable land to feed the people of London.
07:35Up until about the 1870s, 80s and into the 20th century, it was rural.
07:42There was farms everywhere.
07:43You can see here, my sort of estimations of where you mentioned the house was, it would have been here, on the site of Brookhouse Farm.

07:54Ah.
07:54So that's why, then, around the house, a lot of the roads start with the word brook.
07:59They're like brookend, brookdale.
08:01And so I'm guessing that this is the actual brook, then.

08:05Once again, for me, the garden is really significant.
08:19I can hear giggling, I can hear laughter, and I can see a group of people paddling or playing near water.
08:29There's something to do with the female energy and this water.
08:37I'm meeting Frankie's younger brother, Joey, at the brook, just behind the house, to find out what he's experienced.

08:50So did you snuck about here in this brook?
08:53This is where I used to hang out as a kid, yeah.
08:56Through this river here, there's a tunnel, and it's known as the Devilman's Tunnel.
09:01And I don't know why, but we used to go through Devilman's Tunnel.
09:05You'd crawl through it?
09:06Yeah.
09:06What's it like?
09:08From what I can remember, it's quite scary.
09:10Apparently, it's like haunted a little bit down here.
09:14It's quite creepy, isn't it?
09:15It is a little bit creepy, yeah.
09:16I've heard people have seen things there.
09:19I've heard people have gone in there and never come back.
09:22Things like that.
09:23So what about paranormal activity that's taken place at Frankie's house?
09:27Well, I mean, as a kid, I was in the room at the top of the stairs to the left.
09:33I could have really sleep at night.
09:35I was a really bad sleeper.
09:36Um, I don't know whether that was just down to just being a child or not.
09:42Frankie experiences quite a lot of paranormal activity.
09:45I mean, when we had the incident at Christmas with the roast potatoes on the floor, she said that at the corner of the house, she'd see a hand on the door.
09:52So it was weird, do you know what I mean?
09:54As soon as I get up in the landing, there's one door open, but my heart's just absolutely physically racing.
10:05Whoever would have stayed in this bedroom would have been petrified, would have felt really uncomfortable.
10:16And I just get this visualisation of something sat on the end of my bed.
10:20There's certainly an apparition in here, and that apparition is connected to whoever would have played down the road near that water.
10:29Do we know anything about any significant waterways or anything like that within the forest?
10:37There's quite a few.
10:39All the waterways are intrinsically linked by the underground rivers that would spur off from the roading, would supply the brooks, would supply the ponds, all of those kind of things.
10:49And there has been a lot of water-related deaths in Epping Forest.
10:54For example, one was a mother, a Mary Jane Heathcote, in 1891, who drowned her two children, who were five and three, and then tried to take her own life.
11:04And her logic behind it was the two children had been very, very sick with flu, and she couldn't afford the treatment to get them better.
11:12And she thought it was a better way to go than to linger with a long-term illness.
11:17Another one that happened was in 1909, and it was one of the forest rangers, and he was found drowned in a pond in suspicious circumstances,
11:27face down in the pond with no defensive wounds on him or anything.
11:32And so because they're all connected then, the water from any one of these ponds where someone's drowned,
11:38that water would potentially then be channeling through that brook.
11:43Go into the water table and keep feeding the different waterways, yes.
11:48There's definitely a strong link with a female spirit in this property who has been picked up from somewhere else and brought here.
12:01But it's something down the road that keeps talking to me, keeps pulling me.
12:05I need to know what that is, because that's going to be our little piece of jigsaw puzzle that helps me solve what's haunting this house.
12:14So this Devilman's Tunnel that you're talking about here, it's in this book area, right?

13:23I just felt as if I was drawn to something behind us, like water.
13:27Just to say, actually, as children, Frankie and Joey used to play at this brook area, which backs onto the house.

13:35Well, do you know what? I spoke to Penny, local historian, and there have been an unusually high number of suspicious, mysterious deaths in this local area, all connected to water.
13:47We can clearly see why Frankie has called us in.

23:43I take Jane and Ian into the nerve centre to plan tonight's investigation.
23:50Now, I've got eight fixed infrared cameras across this location.
23:56Camera number one is located in the garden,
23:58looking directly at the back of the house.
24:00Now, this is of particular interest
24:02because apparitions have been seen passing by the kitchen window.
24:05Yeah, and I was very conscious of one pushing up against the glass.
24:09Camera number two is inside the property.
24:11Now, this is in the lounge area,
24:12but it's looking over the dining table,
24:14which is on the front of the house.
24:16Camera number three is located in the lounge,
24:18but looking at the sofa.
24:19This is the area we carried out our spirit trigger session.
24:22We got some really interesting results.
24:25Camera number four is located in the kitchen.
24:26Now, this is a bit of a paranormal hotspot,
24:29and there's also the location of the roast potato incident.
24:32Yeah, very interesting.
24:34I think this is also where Frankie saw an apparition through the window,
24:37didn't she?
24:38And a knocking on the window as well.
24:39That's right.
24:40Camera number five is positioned at the top of the stairs.
24:43We've got a good shot there of the stairs leading up to the first floor.
24:46Camera number six is upstairs on the first floor.
24:50This is in Frankie's master bedroom,
24:52which is obviously an area of interest for us
24:54because it's the heart of the house upstairs.
24:57Camera number seven is also upstairs on the first floor,
25:00but this is in the guest bedroom.
25:02And the final infrared camera is positioned in Joey's old bedroom.
25:07This is a really interesting room.
25:10I felt very unnerved in here,
25:12so I understand why nobody would want to sleep in there.
25:15And, of course, during spirit triggers,
25:17this is where we placed Frankie,
25:18where Ian picked up on something in the corner
25:21right before Frankie got touched.
