01:47It's a beautiful sunny day in the valleys, isn't it?
01:50Many men and boys perished underground in this former mining heartland.
01:58But before there was coal, the Rhondda Valley was an equally tough agricultural area.
02:05The team have been called in to investigate reports of paranormal activity at this historic farmhouse.
02:11Right, fellas.
02:13So the process begins.
02:17It belongs to property expert and presenter of Homes Under The Hammer, Martin Roberts.
02:24So I saw this place about a year ago and I just walked in and I went, I have to own this property.
02:32This is a magical house.
02:35It's the oldest property I've ever owned.
02:38And you think just 1650 when it was built.
02:42This house has lived through so much history.
02:48Eventually we started the renovation works and I've got a team of builders who I brought up here.
02:54The apprentice had to change bedrooms because he was trying to sleep in there and that all sorts of things were going on.
03:02Lights going, flickering on and off.
03:04He apparently vacated the room pretty quickly and thereafter refused to go back into that room.
03:12I would say that the house definitely has energy.
03:15I'm pretty convinced that there is a spirit here but hopefully it knows I'm its friend.
03:20I'm not about kicking out a spirit that's living here in peace and has got some history with the place.
03:28I'm the custodian of this place for a relatively short period of time.
03:32But I am doing my bit while I'm here.
03:34I really hope the team can make any bad stuff realise this isn't a good place for it to be.
03:44And make the good stuff, make them realise I'm here to help.

06:30So I've heard that the house we're investigating
06:33is the oldest house actually in the Rhonda Valley.

06:40What do you know about some of the people that used to live in the house?
06:43It was passed down the Edwards family.
06:45Elves were particularly unlucky.

06:54who decided to go for a walk out onto the mountains
06:57and he actually died of exposure.
06:59There was another Lady Maria in the family
07:02who died at a nearby farm in a fire.

07:10And who was the last Edwards then to own the house?
07:13That would be Margaret.
07:15So what kind of time period are we talking here
07:18when Margaret Edwards was at the house?
07:20That would have been mid-19th century
07:22that Margaret would have been at the property.
07:25She actually died at the property as well.

07:28I've just got this vision of this lady in this flowing dress.

07:41and see if I can make connection with this lady
07:44because she intrigues me.
07:46So when I close my eyes, I've got really strong visions of her.
07:50I think a lot of people would describe this lady
07:52as what I would call a grey lady.
07:54She's almost like a negative in a photograph.
07:57I'm quite convinced that I can communicate with her.

08:04Well, within rural areas, the grey lady is spotted.
08:08She represents the land.

08:11And she's seen quite regularly, particularly in this area.
08:15She can be a portent, really, of impending death.

08:31Two men, William Morgan and John Moses,
08:35were travelling to the farm and they saw something white,
08:38the size of a child.
08:39It looked like a child-sized figure.

08:43And as they approached it, it disappeared.

09:47So there's an illness that is connected to this house.

09:59knowing that that child's died in that room.
10:03I'm meeting up with Martin's builders, Harry and Mark,
10:07who've been renovating and living in the house for the past few months.

10:19Well, this sort of comes back to the very first night we stayed there.
10:23I'm in their mind of my own business.
10:24I'm sort of setting up a mattress, you know, ready to go to bed.
10:28And then suddenly the lights go out.
10:30So I thought, okay, maybe it's the guys having a bit of a joke on me.
10:35And I asked them specifically, are you playing around with the fuse box?
10:38Are you playing around with the light switches or anything?
10:40They said no.
10:42So I make my way back into the front of the property
10:45and you can see the lights suddenly come back on.
10:49No one else was in the property.
10:52There was no explanation for it.
10:54The light was just suddenly back on.
10:55I'd left and that was it.
10:57There was no one else there.
10:58So I go back up into that small bedroom
11:00and then out of nowhere there's this metal clang in one of the other rooms.
11:05And I don't know where it came from.
11:07It freaked me to my core.
11:09And I just thought, I need to get out of here.
11:11I can't stay here.
11:12I have not been in that room since.

11:29So this room is really weird because once again it's been freshly decorated
11:33and lots and lots of maintenance has taken place.

11:44I feel that all these beams will come alive.
11:49And I personally feel somebody could be attached to these timbers.
11:52So the longer I touch them for, the more disorientated I feel.
11:59So this is quite a haunted room even though it feels and looks beautiful.

23:17Once Martin has left for the night, I take Jane and Ian into the nerve centre
23:22to talk them through how I've set up the cameras for the investigation.

23:28So this is a 17th century farmhouse, and I've got eight infrared cameras
23:34that I've put across the entire property, OK?
23:36Camera number one is located in the garden area.
23:39This is looking at the front of the building itself.
23:42Camera number two in the kitchen.
23:45This is a very old part of the building,
23:47so I thought it would be appropriate to actually have a camera in there,
23:49just in case any activity takes place while we're investigating elsewhere.
23:53Yeah, and that's where I picked up on a little boy,
23:55and he started leading me around the house.
23:58And camera number three is located in the front room.
24:01Camera number four is also located on the first floor,
24:04and this is the spare room.
24:07This is just off the living room area,
24:09and it's full of different things, different materials.

24:13I did, yeah, and that's when I was drawn to a gentleman
24:16with a green jumper snoozing in an armchair with a cigarette.
24:21Moving up to the second floor,
24:23camera number five is in one of the master bedrooms up there.

24:28Yeah, I was aware of children and also other spirits,
24:32but also a lady that could potentially be the grey or the white lady.

24:40That's where my phone went off, which was really bizarre.

24:53in the small bedroom.

24:57experienced the light going on mysteriously.
24:59He fled that room in panic.
25:02The final eighth infrared camera is up on the third floor,
25:05and this is the attic space, okay, which is extremely dark,
25:09very spooky, full of spiders.

25:25As we believe the spirit or spirits are capable of interacting

35:47To produce some light as a focal point
35:50for all the spirits
35:52to be reunited who they need to be with
35:57and put them at peace.

37:28Ah, you know, yesterday was fascinating.
37:31So, you know, unless you've discovered something
37:34which goes against what we found yesterday
37:36and turns on its head, you know, bring it on.
37:39And, yeah, I mean, it was clear to us from the word go, really,
37:44how invested you are in this property, you know, emotionally, spiritually,
37:48connected to the place already.

37:53So after you left us, we came into the lounge area here.
37:57Now, you may remember that during the spirit trigger session,
37:59Ian's phone went off.

38:02And we had the maps kind of telling...
38:04That was in the bedroom, right?
38:05That's right, yeah, 150 metres, turn left.
38:09Turn left.
38:10And we didn't really do anything about it at the time.
38:12We thought, oh, it's a technical blip.
38:14I just said to the team, look, I just can't rest with this.
38:17We need to do something about it because it's never happened to me before.
38:20It's never happened to them, so we need to look into it.
38:24So we tried a phone experiment.
38:26It's not something we've done before.
38:28Wow.
38:29The experiment was really interesting
38:31because we were hearing noises, bangs, taps, whispers,
38:36and things like that down here in the lounge,
38:39while the other phone was upstairs on the end of the bed
38:43with a voice recorder.
38:44And we actually caught several different voices and responses
38:48that were captured from that bedroom upstairs.
38:51I'm going to play you this.
38:53A bit of context for you.
38:55I was calling out, and so were these guys.
38:59Something touched my foot.
39:01So one of the questions was, did you touch my foot?
39:03And there is a clear response.
39:05Did you touch my foot?
39:07Spirit.
39:09You can hear that, can't you?
39:13Yeah, yeah, I did it, yeah.
39:17But this phone incident with Ian, so the 150 yards and turn left,
39:23what if this is instructions?
39:25What if these are directions?
39:26Let's have a think.
39:27And so we thought, hang on a minute, let's just take that route.
39:31So we left the house and we walked 150 metres.
39:36We paced it out down the road and we turned left.
39:38And we found ourself on Margaret Street.
39:42So when we came back in, Marty, we went into the far lounge
39:46and we were using an application to try and communicate.
39:50This was the first one.
39:52We wanted to know who we were speaking to.
39:55And we heard this.
39:57It sounds electronic because it's this moniker phonetic sounds,
40:04but there are the two Margaret.
40:06And then we asked if the spirits could repeat our names.
40:10Can you say Barry?
40:12Barry.
40:14Very quick.
40:16So that led us back upstairs.
40:18Well, first we went into the small bedroom at the front, the haunted bedroom.
40:22And I was using actually, quite back to basics, an instant camera.
40:27So not a digital camera, Instamatic camera.
40:30But we grouped in there and Ian suddenly picked up on a lady standing in front of him.
40:35I was very aware of a female presence in there.
40:39And I said to her, where are you?
40:41She says, in front of you.
40:43She went like that.
40:44She turned because she was conscious of that flash from the camera.
40:47So this was the first photograph I took in the room.
40:51Curtains, that's quite normal.
40:53Now this is the second one.
40:54This is the photograph that I took at this moment.
40:57Now when it developed, I cannot explain why that looks like that.
41:02And when you hold it at arm's length, we all felt it looks almost like an old Victorian photograph.
41:07So you can see your body, and you can see your head, arms coming around.
41:12And it actually blew my mind because I didn't expect to really capture anything on there because you generally don't tend to.
41:19Maybe a light anomaly, you know, a little orb or something, but that came out of the camera.
41:24Wow.
41:25And the beauty of the instant photographs, of course, is there's no digital manipulation going on.
41:30Whatever's in front of the lens will come out.
41:32So is that the grey lady?
41:34That's your grey lady.
41:35Wow.
41:36So after all of that, I'm sure you're eager to know what we did at the end and how the spirits found it all.
41:43Well, we decided actually that there was such a lovely feel to the house that we didn't really need to do a full house cleanse
41:51because there was nothing here actually that would cause anyone any harm.
41:54But we did think that we did need to light a candle, open a doorway and say some prayers and bless the house.
42:00Oh great.
42:01Which we did.
42:02So yeah, so Margaret Edwards, we felt she was quite happy in your house.
42:07And then the two children, we felt also that they was here because they'd passed in such a sad passing really.
42:14So they were then trapped within the house as well.
42:17And are they happy to be here?
42:19They are.
42:20So what we did, we lit the candle and we used that as a focal point.
42:23And we used prayer and we opened what we call a spiritual doorway for them to go through.
42:30I've not sent them to the light because they love it here that much.
42:35During that prayer session, I was recording again.
42:38And I think this is nice validation.
42:40There's a little girl's voice that says thank you and yes.
42:44I'll just turn some power of Santa in here.
42:56I heard the thank you.
42:57And you heard the ear at the end.

42:59But you know what strikes me about that thank you, the voice is beautiful.
