00:00Hey guys, welcome back to Uniprises. Once again, this is your host, Anagamer, and today's video, I'm going to be doing yet another anime video.
00:12In this one, I've been like debating in my head as to what I should classify this as a review or as a underrated anime, and I've come to the conclusion that I think personally, as much as I like this particular anime, I don't think it's underrated.
00:30So it's going to be doing as a normal anime review. Okay, so here we go. Today I'm going to be talking about how not to summon a demon lord. Right, yes, now that's actually the name of the anime, which, quite frankly, it started off as a light novel series that, if you go according to the timeline, but now, what is this anime about?
00:54Well, the story revolves around this guy named Takamura, some Japanese name I can't really remember pronounced that much, but he is a gamer who is like, you know, he plays these online MMO games.
01:11In a way, it sort of like takes a dab at gamers in a generic sense, you know, but it's sort of like outdated view of like gamers who spend all the time playing video games and they isolate and they don't really interact with people.
01:30That is a somewhat outdated view of people in the gaming industry, at least from my perspective, you know, considering how big the industry has grown now in the past 20 years, at least.
01:43Back to the stories, he is playing his favorite MMORPG called Crosby, and he's transported like somehow into the game itself, right?
01:56It's like an RPG game that he plays with a bunch of like characters in like a sort of medieval time.
02:03It's like if you're playing like the Witcher, where you have like these different, you know, people and this magic and sorcery and medieval stuff, but it's like an online MMO game that he's playing and he's someone else gets transferred into it.
02:22The thing about this, that I will say in this anime, that it doesn't explain how he gets into the game, like how he gets transferred into the game.
02:31So I find that was a bit of a dumbass, like how would they have justified this crazy situation happening and it turns out it did it, it just happened.
02:44The two young girls who are up some of them, one is an elf with an exotic pantheon, you know, there is like a medieval Lord of the Rings Lord where they have like these elves and one of them is an elf named Shiva and an exotic pantheon named Rem, which is sort of like one of those
03:01furries. Yeah, it's got some furry shit going on, but it's not like super crazy furry shit, so yeah, he enters the game as the character he plays as, which is a crazy cool concept.
03:19I would say, you know, I mean, you create this avatar for this MMORPG and you're like in the game actually playing as your character, like you're actually the character, but they attempt to use his spell to make tech from, you know, their servant, but due to his magic ring with the ability magic reflection and the spell rebounds and they end up, you know, getting hit
03:40with their own spell and they get the color stuck on their necks and become his servants instead of making him their servants.
03:47In this whole game, right, he's like in this whole world and while he's playing the game for a long time and knows about the game, he hasn't actually been inside the game's open world.
04:03So, him having to like being socially awkward, he has to find ways to get around in this like world and what he does is he tries to act like the character that he created.
04:19So, he creates like a dual personality where he's like being like the character and in his thoughts, you hear him speaking to himself.
04:30The, the, the benefit he has though is that him playing the game, he has a very wise and very well-knowledged and informed about all of the stuff in game, like the items that he collects, the people that you encounter most of the time.
04:47The, the weird thing is that a lot of the stuff he encounters in the game, like a lot of people that he gets and fights with, some of them are like, like new stuff that he ends up encountering.
04:59In fact, it's to a point where some, several episodes in, he ends up question of if he is in a, the game he's played or if he is in a different version of it.
05:08Which is something I will get into later on in the video.
05:11Now, the, the main goal of this anime, at first I thought it would have been like him trying to figure out how he can get back out of the game and back into his real world.
05:25But instead, it's basically him with the two girls that end up becoming his servants with the, um, color stuff on the next.
05:36He ends up having to travel along with them and find a way to like undo the spell on them.
05:45And also helping them with their, um, personal stuff like, for example, Rem, the, the furry girl.
05:55He finds out she has his, how I'd say, something like similar to Naoto where she has his thing inside that she has to get out.
06:02They did some pretty weird shit with that I will say.
06:06Later on in the episodes, in, in the, um, show it's like only one season so there's not really a lot.
06:12Um, I will say it, it's paced very well.
06:15So, it's not like slow paced.
06:17And it's very, you know, easy to go along with.
06:20Um, they, they do some pretty crazy stuff with that character.
06:23Then you have the elf girl that she's with.
06:27They really play out with her and how her body is.
06:32Pretty, you know, big and busty and whatever.
06:35Um, she has this whole thing with her family where her, her brother and this actor.
06:41And there's a thing like a bit of incest and, you know, the whole, um, princess doesn't want to do with the kingdom sort of thing.
06:52And she wants to like be free.
06:54But her brother wants her to be with her and he's like doing some crazy mind control shit.
07:00And it gets very incest to us between them.
07:04And it's, it's so weird too, because it, it's like the anime is like one step away from being like a hentai.
07:12If I be frank with you, you know, compared to the other enemies where I have like reviewed on this channel and other other enemies that I have talked about.
07:23They go really up there.
07:26Almost breaking the ceiling in terms of the limit as to what they can show.
07:30Well, on a anime, you know, before it'd been classified as a hentai.
07:35We also have several, um, current characters, you know, supporting characters.
07:42There are some really funny ones they have and some annoying ones, I would say.
07:48There are several things in this anime that really stood out to me.
07:53The first of all were to be the themes that is presented in the, the writing.
07:59And, you know, the, the plotting.
08:01It, it addresses the situation of people being socially inadequate in society where they can't really like interact with people and they choose to be like introverted and closed off.
08:17And it also like addresses the idea of people who, uh, I would say they don't want to be confined to like certain values and such based on like their, their family traits, their backgrounds, their races and ethnicities.
08:38It presents the idea of people wanting to be more free and living their, their own lifestyles.
08:45So the, it's very much a, that's very much a big, um, aspect in the storyline with, especially the, the side chicks that hang out with the, um, the main character, the demon lord.
08:59Both of them, uh, they, they want to like live freely as themselves, but simultaneously being like servants, like to this, this demon lord guy.
09:13And, there's a funny thing that goes on there with that whole servant aspect and how he ends up racking up like four or five ish girls as his servants at the end of the anime.
09:26Yeah.
09:27There are also some other stuff that the anime touches on like in terms of like different groups of people who look down upon other groups of people.
09:35Almost like in real life when you, you know, have in the history or you have the Nazis viewing themselves as their superior race and how you have other groups that are looked down upon and such and how, how they view other people and view themselves.
09:53There is a bit of commentary on that.
09:57You know, they have, um, the, the elves and then they have the, the humans.
10:02They have two groups of the humans.
10:04They have, um, yeah, one that views themselves as the high and mighty sort of like ones.
10:11And the ones that are like meh.
10:14And then you have the, the forums, which the, you know, the demon lord character that the main guy is playing as in this open world.
10:26He is considered a fallen, you know, his, um, character that he plays as his background.
10:32I really admire how well they portray that and they didn't even got like super preachy about it or not to my point of view.
10:45They didn't really spell super preachy-ish.
10:48Um, there was a nice message overall in that.
10:52In terms of the storyline, I don't really want to get much into spoilers in case you guys want to watch it, but I will say that it has a sort of One Punch Man layout to the, the first season.
11:08You know, like how in the first season of One Punch Man, you have Saitama, you introduce this character and then you see him as this bullhead hero.
11:19Throughout the first season of One Punch Man, you remember Saitama encounter like a bunch like different monsters and characters with varying types of powers and, you know, abilities.
11:34And they, they all make them look like so like, like badass-y and cool in how they animate them and how they, their, um, personalities and whatever, including Janus in One Punch Man, right?
11:48And, but when they start to fight Saitama, almost all his matches ended like similar fashion to him, knocking out them, even the big baddie at the end of the first season of One Punch Man.
11:59I mean, he takes more damage, but he eventually beats him all the same as he did with every other character.
12:05And it's like that here in this anime with the main character, the Demon Lord.
12:11He is level 150 in the game, which basically makes him like the strongest character in the game as all the people he hangs around with.
12:20They're like level 30, level 40-ish.
12:23Um, some of the guys that he fights, they're like level 50 to level 80.
12:28There's only like, I think like one or two of them he fights that are like level 100 and up.
12:34And they don't really pose most of a threat to him, right?
12:38Um, not to say that he is like invincible Saitama, but the, the power skill in the, in the anime and, you know, the game he's playing, he's basically like way above these guys in terms of rank and strengths.
12:52Um, even though he can still get injured and, you know, the, you see several times throughout the, um, the show where he gets like tired and he passes out and he has to recover his MP where he uses all his, um, magic.
13:06When he's in a fight, like, he, he never loses.
13:11Um, there's something to it I like where you have the main character, the protagonist is like super OP.
13:19Um, there's a sort of like Superman aspect to it where he's like super OP and he, he can't really like, um, get beaten easily and most people that he encounters he like beats them up and wins.
13:34I like that aspect to it and how they handle it here.
13:39Um, there's a certain ability chapters, but nothing too much at me.
13:44It'd be like, Ooh, you know, so I'll give them that.
13:49The animation quality in this, it's okay.
13:52It has a lot of lighting, it has a lot of, um, detail to it.
13:56The biggest detractor for this anime that prevented me from overall giving it an underrated.
14:03Underrated reading.
14:05There's two things.
14:07There's two things.
14:09The first one being the writing and the dialogue.
14:13It's hella cringe.
14:15And while, and while cringing is like a common thing in a lot of enemies, you know, I don't think any anime out there is exempt from some form of cringe dialogue.
14:30This anime, it has a lot in its writing.
14:34Um, especially in a lot of scenes too.
14:37You know, this is a very spicy anime at times.
14:41There's some haramish stuff that goes on with the characters.
14:47So if you guys aren't really into that, you may want to check out from this one.
14:53Yeah, but even though I don't really view it as a negative, I find that the amount of stuff in there that's all like what's done on the writing.
15:06It really did have like a more negative impact on the anime for me personally.
15:14You know, um, the second stuff about the anime, I would say is that, and this has to do with the first aspect, is in the writing.
15:26You know, how I mentioned earlier how there are certain themes and bits about social statuses that this anime brushes on, in terms of how people view each other.
15:40There are some really serious moments in this anime that I found really, um, interesting.
15:46But, given how the anime plays off with its dialogue and its writing, and how it likes to like, you know, go on that haramish stuff.
15:56There was so much of that, to the point where I didn't really care much for the serious moments.
16:02At least not as much as I should have, or as much as the anime wanted to.
16:07It felt less serious to me, overall.
16:12And it's not that I'm saying that, you know, it has to be serious all the time.
16:16You know, they can't really have a lot of like, these haramish jokes, right?
16:21Um, some, sometimes you can have a bit of both.
16:25Like, for example, you look at Dragon Ball right now.
16:28Those are like, probably the two most used examples at this point.
16:33But, you know, certain using, like, those enemies, they do a lot of jokes.
16:39But at the same time, they also get very serious and emotional, and it pays off.
16:44Because they, they know how to balance it, or how to, when to use, you know, serious and, you know, funny.
16:53But at the same time, I will admit though, those animes, well, those are like, ongoing animes, right?
16:59This is like, mostly a pilot.
17:02It's like, basically one season of 12 episodes.
17:05Alright guys, let's do a quick update here.
17:08Um, this is, while editing this video, I've covered some new information.
17:14Find out that this anime is, again, a season 2.
17:19That is set for 2021.
17:22But, um, I, this is something I didn't know while I was recording the video, making this review.
17:31Um, so, I just recently found out, and I decided to like, you know, insert this into the video, to let you guys know.
17:39You know, there's more to come, and there's more to the story.
17:44Which is something I wanted to mention.
17:46I think this anime is probably deserving of a second season.
17:50Given how it ended.
17:52Because it didn't really felt like it ended.
17:54Um, not really going to spoil the ending of the first season, in case you still want to watch it.
18:00But, um, for me, I thought they was going to go in the direction where the main character comes out of the game.
18:10And he's back in reality.
18:15But he didn't.
18:16And they still haven't addressed the fact that how he got stuck in the game.
18:20Like, if it was the spells that the character tried to use.
18:25But, the spells was to make him the assurance, right?
18:31They didn't pull into the game.
18:34So, I find that was a bit disappointing.
18:37Then there is the fact that, you know, it does have a fairly satisfying ending, in my opinion.
18:45Despite that detractor.
18:48I would say, out of all the animes that I have reviewed so far, this one could really use a season 2.
18:58Although it probably may not get it.
19:00Um, but as I said, overall, with the detractors.
19:06I would say the anime is still good.
19:10It's not an underrated anime.
19:12But, I would say it's still pretty entertaining.
19:16Fun to watch.
19:17It doesn't really drag much.
19:19It's not really that slow pace.
19:22Right?
19:23Um, it doesn't really take itself too seriously.
19:28You know, after watching and thinking about it.
19:31So, you're gonna have, like, a good time watching this anime.
19:34That's, if you don't mind the harm-ish stuff.
19:37You know, the spicy stuff.
19:40Yeah, enjoy yourself watching this, right?
19:42So, move on.
19:44How to not summon a demon lord, guys.
19:46Um, yes, a weird anime.
19:48I would say it's a good anime.
