00:00hey guys welcome back to the prices once again this is your host and again today
00:05so we're going to be doing a quick movie review alright now earlier I did a discussion sort of
00:13on the trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong which I have said it seems to be really lit and really big
00:22looking really forward to it to see what they do but I also said that I'll be reviewing the
00:28past monster vs movies up in advance to the you know Godzilla Kong battle movie right so to do that
00:39we gotta start with all the way back in 2014's Godzilla okay now this movie it's I'd say it
00:48probably had more writing for it than the Godzilla vs. Kong movie because this was Prima's Hollywood
00:55second attempt at a Godzilla movie after the disastrous which people refers to Godzilla
01:03because of how they made a Godzilla look in that movie I think I think I'll be viewing that but
01:10probably later but right now I'm going to be viewing 2014 Godzilla and this one well to simplify they
01:18nailed it they did what they needed to do and it kick-started the whole monsters that we know today
01:24right now so here we go okay now you guys know the common themes of the Godzilla storyline he is
01:34originally created from the Hiroshima bombing I just come out and he was like a result of that you know
01:41that was basically Japan's way of trying to find a upside to the whole tragedy so I guess you can say
01:53if it wasn't for Hiroshima you wouldn't have had Godzilla um don't know if that's a positive to frame but
02:01whatever um in the plot here for the American version they change up stuff for the monster
02:07boost in 1954 you have Godzilla prehistoric monster he comes in and he gets killed or at least attempted to kill
02:20a nuclear bombing right and then decades later you have Monarch which is the this company the scientists
02:29they come and investigate the skeleton of a monster similar to Godzilla that was in a cavern you know in
02:36a mine in the Philippines and then they find these two giant spores one dormant one hatch and then there's a
02:44a chair in the sea and you know and then you have the nuclear power plant experiences and you know all
02:51these stuff right um pretty much the setting up how they're introducing this new Godzilla and these creatures
03:01you also fast forward to the present week where you have characters Joe and Sanders
03:06they have a son who is a U.S. Navy so they come he comes home they introduce him his wife and such and his son
03:20but what happened is that they have to go straight to Japan right afterwards because he is
03:26the teen for trespassing in Jan Jiro's quarantine zone pretty weird name um then he's an apparent to
03:38find out the cause of the meltdown and he they end up going to retrieve data and they discover that
03:46this was uncontaminated um here's the thing all this is like pretty much pointless when you think about it
03:54but they do this to sort of like build up everything right and introduce the characters which is a huge
04:02fucking problem when it comes to these monster-based movies the human character and the amount of
04:08emphasis they put on them over the monsters like we think about it the Godzilla movies and Kong movies
04:15people come to see it for Godzilla and Kong they don't come to see it for the human characters
04:20I'm not saying that you don't need any human characters it's just you keep wasting all the
04:26screen time on them they could probably use more screen time on the monsters and I know why they do it
04:33they do it so they can't spend less money on CGI because it's quite a lot of editing a lot of VFX work
04:41to make Godzilla in all these scenes so they try to limit as much as possible by
04:50filling up the screen time with human interactions okay so let's just get this all the way right
04:58you get to see Godzilla first appearance in the movie you know they they do the thing that they end up
05:07doing in um the old Godzilla but to a much greater extent you know where they you see shots of the
05:15creature but you don't see the whole creature body and such they they tease him a little bit just get
05:21you more angst up and excited I like it at first when I started getting a bit too much I didn't want to
05:27have seen more Godzilla but they did a good job of teasing him without anything like
05:32overexposing him or such so what happens is that you have these thing called the mutu which is
05:42the stuff that calls the meltdown right these mutu was these are big weird looking
05:50bug creatures that are like the right rules to Godzilla so what happens that they come out they
05:56go and start attacking submarines and all sorts of stuff then Godzilla comes back and he
06:03caused a tsunami and he starts infighting the mutu but then they the mutu leaves you realize that
06:11the mutu was communicating with something and Godzilla was um you know spying in on them
06:19eavesdropping so then you have the military going and following them and then they find a bigger mutu
06:24all right this one's bigger it has no wings it attacks las vegas poor las vegas but no one really
06:30cares about las vegas then the scientists end up saying it's the female and the males communicating
06:38with her and they were signaling a mating call you know so all are great stuff right
06:46now what happens is that the military starts fighting against the mutus and then Godzilla comes up at the
06:56golden gate bridge to fight the male mutu and then you can see it they have strike team they do the
07:04halo jump to command the sound overhead before it blows up right what happens here is to summon up
07:11Godzilla beat the mutu then he collapsed from exhaustion because the mutu wear him out and then
07:18he goes back to the sea and that's when the media decides to dub him king of the monsters and then
07:26there's this whole speculation whether he's a savior or not you can tell from the writing and the amount
07:31of stuff here in the plot they did try the best right the writers and they tried their best
07:39to make a plot that takes it seriously you know the characters are taken seriously that they try to
07:49make them um relatable and all that stuff and they try to make Godzilla reinvented for the new audience
07:58and for the majority of it it works you know everyone dug it Godzilla's design is so much better here
08:07than it was in it that stupid 90s Godzilla movie um the sound effects the the CGI everything i think
08:16it was all done well even to this day if you re-watched the 2014 Godzilla it looks still looks good
08:24in fact i'd probably prefer the 2014 Godzilla over the king of the monsters Godzilla you know and that
08:29is my preference even though i did like seeing the fights in the 2019 king of the monsters
08:35because i prefer as a movie overall you know the 2014 Godzilla it it handles its stuff better with the
08:47writing and the acting and the human characters you know so uh with that being said
08:58the big problem the only real problem i actually have this movie is
09:03the little bit of screen time that they give for Godzilla he mostly shows up in the second half
09:09you know because they're doing all this um plot stuff to build up not just the movie and introduce
09:16Godzilla but to introduce the whole monsterverse there's a lot here that they splice in you don't
09:22really figure out until you watch the later movies and you come back and then you realize how much they
09:28are doing to set up monarch as a this big organization that spans all the different movies and all this
09:36stuff about uh go back in 100 years ago you know they really did a lot to enhance the Godzillaverse
09:46you know the whole story and his own mythology they did have to change it up from the original material
09:54but for here it actually works you know it's a new time it's a new direction from the going and it
10:02works and like i said my only gripes is is that the little bit of screen time Godzilla had you know
10:09it's mostly in the second half he shows up then you have the human characters and it's crazy they have
10:15Brian Cranston in this movie who's a splendid actor and they waste him in like the first act you know
10:24um like less than halfway into the movie and he's gone i don't understand that like the cutlies um give
10:30him a more longer lasting role instead of doing that i mean he's a good actor you know pretty big
10:37waste of potential um the other actors um you know they have that um Elizabeth Olsen and
10:43and that guy keep forgetting his name um Quicksilver guy they did okay here you know um it kind of hard
10:52for me to see them as a couple because i mostly know them from the mcu where they are like the brother
10:58and sister of um and children of Mike Neal so it looked kind of weird but um i'd say they did good
11:06for what they have um i'd say Elizabeth Olsen is a better actor than um the guy but he did a good job
11:15you know um overall the majority of the human characters were good right so to sum it up Godzilla 2014
11:25guys i'm gonna give the 2014 Godzilla an 8.1 out of 10. you know it's it's great um it's definitely
11:37better than the 2019 Godzilla you know in some aspects it's doesn't live up but it's majority that
11:46probably the best Godzilla movie you can get to date you know um and it's definitely worth recommending
11:54it's worth you watching you know 2014 is seven years ago and this movie still holds up guys
12:00especially given how far we've come in the monsterverse all right so yeah guys i put your sons of
12:06mind review for the 2014 Godzilla great movie um it's not as bad as some people says it is because
12:15and a lot of people are more critical of the lack of action in the movie i say it handled itself
12:24good for the most part but that is my opinion on Godzilla guys let me know do you think in the
12:30comment section down below 2014 Godzilla do you like it do you hate it do you think it was a good
12:36way to jumpstart the monsterverse or do you think that it was a pretty boring movie let me know in the
