00:00hey guys welcome back to the prices once again this is your host and again
00:03I'm into these video. I figured I'd do a quick discussion around revenge stories
00:11you know particularly the ones in like movies and TV shows and such. I noticed
00:18I saw a trend that's happening if you guys have noticed I'm sure you've noticed
00:21this as well by now. John Wick started off a new trend in revenge
00:28plots right like movies centered around you know the main character being wrong
00:34and he wants to get revenge. I think John Wick started a new trend in it because it was
00:40sort of like a gang or trend a while prior to that movie but after John Wick came out
00:47it sort of like populized this whole idea of you know trying to basically make the
00:55MC the favorable guy right and to make him look like almost like a good guy even
01:02though he's not a good guy he's actually a bad guy himself you know and that's one
01:09thing that comes to revenge plots is that there are no really good guys in the
01:14whole story right that's what makes it interesting there's a lot of shades of
01:19gray here and you could find yourself being conflicted at you know the MC or the
01:26guys who are going after the MC or the guys who the MC is going after there's a lot of
01:31conflicting stuff around that and some of it you can't really make sense of but
01:38some of it it really does puts you in some position you know because it's a lot of
01:43gray area there's no black and white per se when it comes to revenge plots. John Wick on the other hand
01:49hand the way how that movie played out when you watch the first one right it
01:54sort of paints it in a more black and white picture like you know this guy is a
02:01assassin for hire and then you see all this stuff happening to him you know these
02:08guys here and then he's trying to realize oh he's actually not just another
02:12assassin he's the John Wick you know and that's the whole thing they play up
02:17during his whole movies you know he's one of the best guys out there and these
02:23guys they basically started the shit with him and it all makes sense right it all
02:28works right but it's the important thing to know that he is not a good guy he is
02:34just a guy you know that does these terrible things and he was just wronged by
02:40these other guys who does terrible things in a very bad way for a very stupid
02:45reason I admit but there are no good guys in that especially look at the
02:53sequels like John Wick chapter 2 chapter 3 I watch them they're good movies I will
02:59admit they are good movies were shot well directed edited everything like that but
03:05they play into the narrative that John Wick is the good guy you know all the
03:11people who watch it they have the impression that you know he is a guy that
03:16you root for because you know oh he's like the good guy or something like this and
03:22that's not the case he's not a good guy he's no different than any of the other
03:27guys the only reason why you root for is because he was wronged unfairly by these
03:31other people and I think that's neat to be pointed out when it comes to his
03:36revenge plots because since John Wick came out a lot I mean there's been a lot
03:43more interest in these sort of like revenge stories you know you've seen
03:50several of them that has been dubbed I'm John Wick clones pretty much fumbled the
03:56back completely because they neither had the charisma or the the finesse per se
04:04that John Wick had and it's worth mentioning because there's been quite a
04:10bit of female John Wick as a lot of people would call it that have come out
04:15recently you know with Kate, G55, Peppermint you know all of these fumbled in
04:25varying degrees because they learned all of the wrong things from John Wick including
04:31one of the big things out of the world is the whole black and white narrative okay
04:35the one thing about revenge stories and what makes them a feeling to people to
04:40look out for is the grave not the black and white black and white is like hero villain
04:46type stuff that's stuff that would go to see in superhero movies you know not in revenge plot
04:55movies here you get to you have to explore okay these characters they might be good at what
05:03they're doing in this particular field or whatever but it doesn't mean they're some good guy they have to root for it doesn't mean that they are I know a very good guy all around
05:15I could do all this sort of stuff all right I know that's been a common thing with these
05:21female John Wicks as people call it especially look at the 355 for example
05:29that's a common thing that they keep making in these right in these revenge
05:34plots no did you can't admit the fact that you know you have a character that's
05:41flawed and they might not do all the right things they might make some
05:48decisions and get themselves into more trouble they might make good decisions but
05:54it doesn't mean that they are you know the best at what they do whatever and all
05:57other stuff it's it's really annoying the more and more you think about it and the
06:06reason why I brought this up because I noticed more and more now how people have had
06:10their mindset shifted when looking at this sort of genre in the sense of these films
06:16it's almost like late 2000s remember when Taken came out and that blew up with Liam
06:24Neeson and you know since then there's been quite a bit of movies that sort of
06:29like you know try to replicate Taken even with Liam Neeson like if you look at all this
06:35filmography post Taken right he did quite a bit of movies basically like clones of Taken that he did
06:45over and over him being like the same guy you know it's crazy right and I feel like I'm seeing a
06:51similar pattern happen here you know post John Wick blowing up and I find it's pretty annoying to think about it
07:03and it's even more annoying when I mention why I decided to make this video you know the main reason I decided to actually do a video on this topic is because last year we drew a
07:17video of Hila came out right and I know that's an anime TV show but it still has it's called revenge
07:24not going on right I saw the whole reception to that and you know outside of people going crazy about you know some of the stuff that the AM characters are doing
07:35I noticed a lot of people were very dismissive about it being a revenge story you know Seattle it doesn't do it properly and you know it's not really good at revenge and all that other stuff and you know it it makes it a very trivialized stuff and you know all kind of stuff is saying to try and dismiss the fact that it's at its core it's a revenge story it's not one that might be interesting to you or something like that
08:05that you find entertaining whatever but it is a revenge story because the MC here in that show right he gets wronged by these people and then he wants to get revenge on them and by doing so he goes down a path of pretty much insanity in a sense right that's pretty much it per se you know people want to talk about there's no character
08:34that you're looking for the world and all this other stuff and it's very trivialized close-off mindset in terms of looking at this because when you look at all the other revenge stories out there there's very little if not any character developing at all for the MCs and those others you know and that's not even the thing that you're looking at it's not really character that you're looking for developing in these stories what you're looking at is to explore the world
09:03that they're in and get to know more about you know their past or the guys that they are going after and you know to understand like where they're coming from and that's the whole point comes to
09:19like these revenge plots the character development isn't really a thing here and it's the same with John Wick like his character isn't really developed that much I mean sure he might probably know a few more things than he did before
09:35or stuff like that but it's really about survival and you know just getting back at the people who wound you that's pretty much it and we do feel it is pretty much that taken to its extreme right like sure you're not going to like agree with the stuff that you know the MC is doing and that and you're not going to agree with
10:03the decisions that the other people are doing towards MC right like there's no good person in that show right everyone's fucked up to varying degrees and that's definitely a given we can all agree on that but the same can be said for John Wick ok these people are literal assassins meaning that they're all can be considered bad guys to like
10:33to a certain extent you know because they kill people for a living and that's including John Wick right he didn't get that status by being you know a guy who just attacked people and get back at people who wronged him you know he's a assassin for hire look at the whole organization right and I love these copycats because that's what they really are when you think about
10:57they try to replicate the same format and they try to replicate the same format to get the success of John Wick and they all feel and you have all these people pointing at you know look you know it's female John Wick and stuff because everyone's perception is like oh if it's not like John Wick then you know it's you know like that's like the go to
11:19to like a revenge story and it's getting kind of annoying and redundant to be honest you know someone who's like a casual enjoyer in this format and likes to you know watch revenge plots read these stories to like you know explore the world that they're in and to see you know like how these characters are the way they are that's pretty much
11:48the essence in the event story like why the characters are the way they are not like whether what they're doing is good or bad
11:57and for the most part you can say is if it's justifiable or not like that's interesting discussion to have when you look at you know the way these stories plays out and the sort of decisions these characters are making
12:10like that's an interesting discussion to have but it's not being had because people you know they're looking at it from the sense of
12:17oh I like this character because he does cool stuff and you know very simplified approach in terms of how you look at this
12:26so yeah that pretty much sums up my whole thoughts here all this revenge stories right and you know people sort of
12:35outlook on the movies and these shows and you know it's like been changed since John Wick came out
12:42I'm trying to make this a long video because I don't want to be talking circles and going nowhere
12:48all right so I'm going to end it here and my main point is to like actually go back to having it you know
12:58the gray area again where things are not black and white where people are actually having a sort of conflict
13:05in looking at these characters the decisions you know they don't look at it as one side good or one side bad
13:12that's the simple lazy way about it I wanted to go back where people actually look at it from
13:17okay this is the world that they're in and these are the reasons why they are the way they are like that
13:26is pretty much what makes revenge stories because there's a lot of conversations around that
13:33and I really feel shitty you know the fact that I had to bring this up after watching
13:41redo appealer and seeing the response to that though not the type of show redo appealers but
13:48I felt like it's something that needs to be you know brought up for me to talk about but overall
13:55that's just my opinion on how I viewed this guys let me know what you think in the comment section down below
