01:01of a perfectionist than i'll be because i'm a bit speedy karen is very impulsive like a bull in a

01:06china shop we are a good team i am a little bit more headstrong brian's calmer you're more is the

01:12word fiery the correct word to do well somebody's got to be yeah those looking to keep the home fires

01:18burning can choose from four self-catered lodges for up to 200 pounds per night based on a three

01:24night minimum stay and meet hosts taking it to heart we're really proud of what we've got a bad

01:30review karen will take quite personally because you want people to come and enjoy it our lodges provide

01:35peace tranquility and luxury they're all babies really and karen and brian believe their babies

01:41are an immaculate conception cleanness is incredibly important we have checklists so that we know

01:47things have been done i expect places to be sparkly when i arrive yeah and i really hope that people

01:52find that ours are and that's how i aim for them to be perfect yeah want them to walk in and be wow

01:57about to arrive are today's first guests have you got a name for your car i know let's say

02:11labelling things up are ying crook and gene ashton of the castle inn in knuckless powys on the last

02:18visit brian alluded to agricultural accomplishments have any of you guys got any experience with milking

02:24cows when we were younger we used to have cows at home okay i've done it a few times

02:31so today ying and gene believe they've got the lay of the land brian might be water farmer there might be

02:39some some part that's still like a farm maybe not a working farm but i don't think it's going

02:44to be a working farm i think it's going to be lovely actually here we go jen here we go oh wow

02:50oh wow this is it yeah it's a proper working farm excited look at the size of it it's massive innit

03:09morning ladies morning welcome to beckon retreats tonight you'll be staying in barn owl lodge which is

03:14self-catering 200 pounds a night and based on a three-night minimum stay hope you enjoy your stay

04:04impressions were pitch perfect oh it's lovely yeah you've got a bed yeah i'm glad we're not on the

04:09floor wow it's amazing that you've got a real bed in here but by morning karen and brian had been

04:16driven to distraction i could get back to sleep this morning because of the sound from outside

04:21on the motorway yeah meaning come feedback how did you sleep the journey got bumpy woke early with

04:28road noise in distance we're three miles from strapford-on-avon you can't get there without a

04:32road so today charlotte and matt plan to be all ears the road noise one is difficult isn't it because

04:41it's so personal it doesn't come up very often from our guests so we'll have to listen out for some

04:46road so yeah i will be intrigued i have a feeling looking at this beautiful countryside that we're not

04:51going to hear any road noise morning morning hi good morning welcome to beckon retreats tonight you'll

04:59be staying in kites nest which is self-catered 180 pounds a night on a three night minimum stay we

05:08oh wow look at that view this is truly stunning there will only be two sets of guests arriving at

05:22beckon retreats today as this week's first host had to pull out of the competition

05:30with the hosts out of the way the guests can see if they want to advance into beckon retreats

05:35yeah good quality this is a super clean bed and i think we're gonna have a great night sleeping

05:40here oh look beautiful i'm watching the cows proper happy that cow i mean everything is clean

05:50clean actually lot you get a welcome drink plopper a few grease marks down there oh yeah

05:58just missed a final clean on the oven there yeah see this one case is missing for the price you pay

06:09200 pounds a night everything should be perfect there's just some marks on the paintwork they've

06:16left off the bread behind look they look like a baguette i really love this outdoor area you've got

06:24the view you've got the hot tub incredibly well done yeah oh no it's a short and curly oh this is a good

06:34size bath and shower i like that look what i found jing hey another one that's brilliantly clean it's very

06:45well done a bit slimy it can be the shampoo or the cleaning product room inspection's almost over charlotte

06:57and matt are wrapping up and ying and jean have found a friend that's birth hello but we've got three

07:05people to share the price yeah got paid by birth newtown was home to the factory the top secret

07:19munitions works that employed a thousand women during world war ii today hosts karen and brian are hoping

07:26not to bomb with an outdoor puzzle game on their farm i think we can nail this game

07:33oh you've said it now with everyone assembled game masters joe and lorna set the challenge

07:43hello so your mission today if you choose to accept it is we need you to save the world

07:49so you're going to work in teams so who's the best at puzzles i'll give it a go brilliant you're on my

07:54team me you and jean yes come on jean we've got this matt we've got this you're going to have an

07:59action pack like this in here are all the puzzles that you're going to need once you get close enough

08:05to the puzzle it'll activate and you can play the game just remember that it's not about who finishes

08:10first it's about who gets the most points bring it on the teams need to crack the bespoke puzzles

08:18dotted around the farm success means crystals which score points and the team who bagged the most will

08:24claim victory what size is your farm then karen with all the woodland here as well as the fields

08:30it's about 90 acres how much have we got to cover the whole 90 acres have you done this before brian

08:37yes yeah we we did it around newtown around the town anybody can book that one whereas this is just

08:42for people who stay at the cabins brian and karen have been great hosts they're very welcoming

08:46very happy to show you around they're nice and relaxed um yeah they've been great landowners lauded

08:52everyone's ready for some riddles you're gonna get it puzzles gene how hard can it be so there's

08:59something we've got to do find an image of the goblin on your newspaper and scan it with your tablet

09:05to reveal the chest there we go guys hey you're a wizard these puzzles gene well done this is really

09:12hard so we're missing something oh right it was onto it so there's there we go yes there we go

09:20how do you open it puzzle was the easy bit oh there's the chest oh we've done it here we've got

09:26some crystals now brilliant ah matt is this more stressful than getting your feedback no i don't

09:31think it is absolutely no tension or negative atmosphere our feedback for the most part was

09:38brilliant yeah no tension at all charlotte matt was absolutely fine after the feedback you know

09:44there was no animosity no bad feeling i don't think can't brian get your action pack out okay i thought

09:51you'd never ask feedback forgotten now the teams have to crack a code to crank open the container

09:58and claim a crystal lucky we found dean oh losers how many crystals do you have my beloved i'm not telling

10:06you dirty opposition that's it olaf the green was quicker than thomas the orange so it's o and t yeah

10:14p could probably be first let's go for a p so r before t have we got it yes come on well done

10:22they've got it so we've got to type that in it yeah it's not on speed it's on points so i'm not

10:33worried the atmosphere in the group today's been really good it brought the competitive elements

10:37out yeah yeah which i think we all enjoyed yeah it's a great way to see the farm in a different light

10:42definitely something we could steal for our place yeah with the afternoon drawing to a close

10:47it's time to crown the champs we're 15 900 this team well done well done well done well done that was

10:59really good fun yeah and we won yeah which makes it even better well done you dean i've walked around

11:04this farm now completely so i've got my steps in mate i need a drink now so do i dean

11:10the third visit of the week is to near newtown in powys and beckon retreats where tonight hosts

11:23karen and brian have invited their guests out for al fresco drinks on their farm here's to a good

11:29evening cheers cheers cheers and with glasses raised and guests snuggling in matt's got a hankering for

11:38the host's history so brian karen how long have you been here i was born here my dad was born here

11:44my grand had moved here can myself met at university um long time ago and then five years ago we started

11:51with the cabins they're bespoke they're our design you're proud of them aren't you oh yeah yeah i wasn't

11:58allowed to interior design that was above my pay grade if it was up to brian there'd be no pillows or

12:03cushions or cushions or any any niceties at all you've got to have the cushions though brian you've got

12:08to have the cushions yeah the host have been brilliant karen and brian definitely feel comfortable

12:14with them um you can see the pride that they take in their place cabins contemplated the hosts

12:19decide to hit the high life what would you class as being luxury in within accommodation for me it's the

12:26the uh facility the decor and the quality so when you walk in you can say oh wow absolutely yeah

12:34because we're going down the luxury end with the hot tubs and the log burners there is nothing like

12:40sitting in front of an open fire yeah they're mesmerizing aren't they you can get lost in them

12:45really i can see all the work you put into it it's next level it is really truly lovely i think you've

12:52nailed it mate it's lovely call me mate yeah i like that everyone has said that we've nailed it i'm

13:01quite overwhelmed and i know and i know you are i feel a little bit emotional i know i could see you

13:07bless you you can see their genuine passion they have set an enormous benchmark praise lavished next

13:14charlotte wants a nose into notices how do you deal with any negative reviews we've been very

13:22lucky haven't we we haven't got anything nasty no we had a cracking lady called ruth wanted to

13:29leave early because it was too noisy it was a combine on the farm next door and um she went to

13:36every social media avenue for reviews i just replied to them hi ruth great to hear from you again

13:42we're all passionate about our places and it can be hard not to take negative criticism

13:49personally you have to become a little bit hardened to that don't you if you weren't prepared to take

13:54a bit of negativity then you shouldn't be in the competition should you drinks done all retreat to

14:01their residence and charlotte and matt are bubbling along nicely definitely a great end to a good day

14:06cheating meanwhile ying's feeling mugged off i found this mug not quite impressed at all

14:15it's a bit dirty have a good night good night

14:23a new day's dawned near newtown where the guests are rising from their slumbers

14:28morning wake wake up here rising shine morning genie how was your bed everything is just so

14:35comfortable i don't want to get up now this view in the morning it's beautiful isn't it ah over in

14:41their lodge charlotte and matt are also reviewing the rest how did you sleep yeah not so bad pillows

14:48were probably a bit soft for me personally maybe we're just awkward pillow people

14:52breakfast at beckon retreats is a self-catering setup and brian and karen believe their guests

15:00are equipped for success we're very confident in our in our setup for self-catering really nice quality

15:06full-fitted kitchens i hope that they're good at making breakfast because they've got everything

15:10there that they need back in their accommodation the guests confide about their kitchens

15:15good quality plenty aren't they yeah i like that one there is lots of utensils everything you might

15:23need i'm glad that's a gas hob i wouldn't normally cook with gas but yeah it's been really easy to use

15:32if it's not too much trouble my love do you think you might be able to come and get some plates out for

15:37me oh i should think so yeah it's a toasting or a pancake yeah the kitchen is work well you've got

15:45everything you need we can cook a proper meal we can cook thai food here to be fair we could cook

15:51anything in that kitchen equipment assessed it's time to dig in oh that looks delicious

15:57nice we should put this on our breakfast menu prove i can cook what was your feedback matthew a

16:10turn yeah correct correct answer matthew breakfast this morning was amazing i was happy with that

16:17it's taster breakfast definitely because i cook it myself morning meal merits munched over talk turns to

16:25the asking price for the overall offering what do you think about a place i shot 200 pounds a night

16:31so i think it's quite expensive it's beautifully thought out you've got the hot tub the wood burner

16:38amazing view and i think it's worth the money that they charge all day long if they could supply a

16:43little lamp maybe with the i don't know some like a basic mixing and a bit of bread and butter then i

16:49think that would add to the luxury of the place to be fair got everything you need for self-catering

16:55but i think if you're paying as much as you're paying for this you should have some sort of hamper

17:02food finished it's time for the guests to tackle the anonymous feedback forms ready

17:09how were your hosts at beckon retreat warm and welcoming a pleasure to be around here

17:16it's going to have to be a 10 definitely how clean what beckon retreats found hair on the bed and

17:26shower stain mug shower wasn't spotless was it no residue in the shower big crust left in the toaster

17:37well odd size seven seven very well presented and clean two very minor issues grill and cooker door

17:46not clean marks above the bed that's a nine yeah i'll agree with that how were the facilities

17:54so that the caster was broken on the sitter nine touch of welcome drink beautiful views online yeah

18:06the facilities are amazing we loved the view the hot tub luxury at its best

18:14a ten how did you sleep good quality bed very peaceful i give them ten we slept quite well pillows

18:26just not for us a nine how was breakfast good breakfast because we cook ourselves yeah would be nice

18:36to have welcome breakfast hamper score for the breakfast we're going to give them nine yeah yeah

18:41and now time for the all-important question would you stay here again yes yes

18:53despite the few clean in his shoes i would yes

19:00now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth that's a fair in it goes the cash will be

19:07kept secret until the end of the competition but for now karen and brian will learn if bechen retreats

19:13has avoided defeat are we ready for this yeah let's do it

19:17how are your hosts at beckon retreats 10 well that's fantastic yeah now i'm pleased with that warm

19:24and welcoming a pleasure to be around made me smile that's made me smile too yeah how clean was bechen

19:29retreats nine it's good yeah where did they find the dust very well presented and clean that's great

19:37isn't it brilliant yeah two very minor issues grill and cooker not clean we know that the cooker was

19:44absolutely clean it's just that it's not new yeah marks above bed that's just because we haven't had

19:50the place redecorated yeah how were the facilities 10. amazing that's a good start we love the view

19:59and the hot tub luxury at its best oh fantastic how did you sleep at nine brilliant brilliant we slept

20:07quite well pillows just not for us yeah personal preference thanks for having us guys cheers thank

20:13you thank you journey i'm hoping it'll be a guess i'm sort of going 70 80 percent yes would you stay

20:21here again and say yes hey yeah really pleased fab let's hope these good marks carry on yep

20:30how clean was back in retreats i never give them to seven yeah i'm not that's that surprised me found

20:37hair on the bed and shower i find that hard to believe it's been checked about three times so

20:42that's definitely something that's going to be raised yeah stained mugs i thought they'd all been

20:47checked yeah residue in shower that totally shocks me the showers were spotless they weren't clean

20:54they were spotless big crust left in the toaster whether we've not looked actually inside the

20:59toaster make sure that we double check in future yeah we deliver absolutely the best standards in

21:04cleanliness i'm bewildered baffled annoyed how were the facilities we've got mine brilliant it's good

21:11broken caster on the city we definitely know now that this is gene and ying because the broken caster is

21:17in bar now but it is something at some point when we can afford that yeah nice touch of the welcome

21:22drink glad they appreciated that beautiful views there we go that's perfect that yeah how did you

21:27sleep 10. perfect perfect yeah good quality bed very peaceful lovely yeah so they've always had a

21:34really good night's sleep yeah how was your breakfast i'll give it a nine that's good good yep good breakfast

21:40as we cooked ourselves would be nice to have welcome breakfast hamper for the price we charge and the

21:47extras they've got i think it's good value for money thank you for the nice day no problem bye

22:03good i'm surprised at the depth that ying and jean have gone to to try and find some problems with

22:10cleanliness they've obviously got very high standards so i expect to eat my breakfast off
