00:01Keep it down, Laura.
00:04Four sets of holiday hosts...
00:06Thanks, see you soon.
00:07Bye.
00:09...have stayed at each other's places.
00:11Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:15It does feel quite harsh.
00:16Seven's still a good score.
00:18Well, we did get a lot better.
00:19...and the payments are revealed.
00:21The reasons that you've given can't justify such a big underpayment.
00:26With four in a bed...
00:27You know, I am a clean person and I do like things clean.
00:30...did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:32On reflection, I actually think they're a bit embarrassed
00:34with the payment that they've given us.
00:42It's the final day of the competition
00:44to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:47The rival hosts are assembling one last time
00:50to find out what they've been paid and settle some scores.
00:54Here we go, lambs to the slaughter.
00:56Kicking off proceedings, our friends Grace Knowles and Connor Keddie,
01:00who were first to host this week.
01:02Welcome to the Lions, then.
01:06On arrival at the White Lion Western in Western Cheshire...
01:09Hello.
01:10How are you?
01:11Welcome to the White Lion.
01:12Laura and Claudia found the place a breath of fresh air.
01:15Oh, this is cute. I like it.
01:17It's nice and airy.
01:18They look homemade.
01:20Mmm.
01:21Mmm.
01:22They're really good.
01:23And Aelis and Demelza gave it a clean sheet.
01:26Nice clean and you know it's been ironed.
01:29You feel it.
01:30Yeah, you feel it.
01:31It makes a difference.
01:32But when Sue and Roger arrived...
01:34Wow.
01:35Very big.
01:36...they got bogged down in the bathroom.
01:38It's dribbling.
01:39I wouldn't like that in case it goes on people's clothes.
01:42Ooh.
01:43Ooh.
01:44Some not very nice hairy things on the bottom of the blue brush.
01:46Come morning, while some salivated over Chef Connor's cooking...
01:50That is lovely.
01:51Connor's really showing himself as a real good cook here.
01:54I'm really impressed with the breakfast.
01:56Sue gave it a grilling.
01:58It's alright.
01:59I'd like to have a more of a seeded bit, perhaps a granary bread.
02:02But I didn't ask for a crispy bacon.
02:03You wouldn't like it.
02:05Meaning at feedback...
02:06How was breakfast?
02:08She and Roger sank their teeth into the scores.
02:11Would you like to score a seven?
02:12Yeah.
02:13Yeah.
02:14How was breakfast?
02:15A seven.
02:16I don't like Sue and Roger.
02:18Before chewing over breakfast, Grace and Connor want Sue and Roger to come clean.
02:23Sue and Roger, you scored us a seven for cleanliness.
02:26Toilet brush, massive lump of hair on it and liquid in toilet brush holder.
02:30I just picked up the toilet brush and there was a big lump of hair underneath it.
02:34There was liquid in the holder as well, so it was just...
02:36Dripping across the floor.
02:37Dripping across.
02:38And that's really why we gave you a seven, mainly.
02:41The hair's valid.
02:42The hair's valid, but the liquid is a sanitising liquid.
02:45I was just concerned if someone splashed it on it, but I don't know what it is you're
02:48using.
02:49If it's a bleach-based thing, it could ruin someone's clothes.
02:51Yes.
02:52No, it's not bleach-based.
02:53It's all right then.
02:54I can see what Sue was saying about if it was a bleach-based, how it could cause damage,
02:57but it's not a bleach-based, it's just...
02:58It's just a...
02:59It's just a sanitiser.
03:00Just toilet cleaner.
03:01Yeah.
03:02Cleanliness covered.
03:03Now Connor has a score to settle.
03:04You gave me a seven for breakfast.
03:07Bacon was overcooked and would have preferred seeded or granary bread.
03:12I couldn't get my fork into the bacon.
03:13I mean, I do like well-done bacon, but it was just a little bit overdone.
03:17And the bread, it's my preference, I'd prefer the option of a granary or some seeded bread.
03:22Simple as that.
03:23We do have seeded and granary bread, so if you would have just asked Grace...
03:28OK.
03:29That's good to know.
03:30I just don't think it respectfully equates to a seven.
03:33It just...it does feel a little bit harsh.
03:35Yeah.
03:36Seven's still a good score, but I know you're looking for a lot better being a chef.
03:40Well, we did get a lot better.
03:41Yeah.
03:42I agree with you.
03:43I do think seven is really harsh.
03:45But you didn't have the bacon, did you?
03:47No, I didn't.
03:48I had the bacon.
03:49It was delicious.
03:50And for me, I think I love a good breakfast.
03:52No, I think seven is a bit harsh for you.
03:54I still stand by what I scored you for.
03:57I just didn't enjoy the bacon.
03:58I'm sorry, it's disappointing.
04:01OK.
04:02Yeah.
04:03I'll take it on board.
04:05Seven's not good enough.
04:06Not happy with that.
04:07Yeah, respectfully, Sue, I don't like it.
04:09My breakfast wasn't as good as I'd hoped.
04:12The bacon was overcooked.
04:13I do like to have crispy bacon.
04:16But this was just hard.
04:18Grace and Connor can now find out how much they've been paid,
04:22starting with Laura and Claudia's room at £90.
04:26£60, 80, 1, 10.
04:31That's £20 over.
04:33Yeah.
04:34Firstly, thank you very much.
04:35Yeah.
04:36We'd be happy to pay £20 each for the breakfast alone,
04:41and we think you're too cheap, to be honest.
04:43You need to put your prices up.
04:46Thank you very much.
04:47Laura and Claudia made us feel fuzzy and warm inside.
04:49Mm.
04:50Next, it's Sue and Roger's room, costing £110.
04:5580, 100 and five.
04:59So that's a £5 underpayment.
05:01It was the cleanliness of the bathroom and also my breakfast.
05:05I do think if someone had stayed in that room and had come to us
05:08with the issues that you sort of raised,
05:10that would probably be the sort of resolution that we would come to.
05:13So yeah, I do understand it.
05:15We was expecting that.
05:16One of the main points was the cleanliness issue
05:18and the big old clump of hair.
05:20So whoever's hair it is, we've sent it off for testing.
05:23I'll find them.
05:24Yeah.
05:25Finally, it's Eilis and Demelza, and Eilis' room, costing £80.
05:3060.
05:3180.
05:32100.
05:33That's a £20 repayment.
05:36Yeah.
05:37We really enjoyed our stay and I would definitely come back.
05:39If I was your mum, I'd be very, very proud of you both.
05:42Aww.
05:46Yeah, thank all of you.
05:47Thank you so much for coming and staying with us
05:49and thank you for the feedback.
05:51And any of you, come back any time and we'll look after you.
05:54Yeah.
05:55It killed me off a little bit.
05:56It was just really touching.
05:58With Foxlow Grange overpaying by £20,
06:01Tetstone log cabins knocking off £5
06:04and Kumya holiday cottages tipping £20,
06:07the White Lion Western finishes with a final bill average of 114%.
06:13Next to face the feedback are friends and colleagues
06:16Laura Mews and Claudia Pardo.
06:18Time to get to the bottom of things.
06:23When the guests arrived at Foxlow Grange in Buxton, Derbyshire
06:27Wow.
06:28First impressions were exclamations.
06:31Oh wow.
06:32What a property.
06:33Oh wow.
06:34Oh wow.
06:35Oh wow.
06:36I am very impressed.
06:38But on closer inspection, Connor and Grace took a swipe.
06:42Quite dusty above here.
06:43Quite dusty above there.
06:44Quite dusty above there.
06:45Quite dusty above there.
06:46That's the downstairs here.
06:47Yeah.
06:48There's a fly.
06:49Come morning, Alice and Demelza bared all in the bathroom.
06:52You can see inside.
06:53It's a massive issue for me.
06:55Yeah.
06:56It is.
06:57There's no privacy there.
06:58There's nothing.
06:59No.
07:00And the bath didn't wash with Sue.
07:01Little bit disappointing with the bath this morning.
07:03The plug leaks.
07:05At breakfast, some of the guests offered up opinions on the offering.
07:09I don't think this is enough yoghurt for two.
07:11I'd say that one does feel a little bit steep.
07:13I want a scrambled egg.
07:14I haven't got a bowl to mix it in.
07:17And something else.
07:19There's no whisk.
07:21But at feedback, it was Alice and Demelza's facilities score.
07:25I would say six.
07:26That left its mark.
07:28Six.
07:29Yeah, that's disappointing.
07:30It clearly is a competition.
07:32People are being super critical.
07:34Now all together, Laura and Claudia want Alice and Demelza to expose their issues.
07:40You scored us a six for facilities.
07:43So lack of privacy, especially in the bathroom.
07:47The bathroom, there was the blind.
07:49So I got very uncomfortable very quickly.
07:52Alice went outside.
07:53She could see in.
07:54The two windows that face in are frosted.
07:56So one of them is our property.
07:58And one of them is the B&B next door, which is their bathroom,
08:01which is a frosted window.
08:03I've got a frosted window and a blind on my property.
08:07It's the first time this issue has ever occurred.
08:09And we're very sorry that you felt so upset by this.
08:12I wasn't happy.
08:13I haven't finished speaking.
08:14Sorry.
08:15So if you'd called us, we would have been able to maybe situate you in another room.
08:18I think I would have preferred a blind.
08:21Nobody can see.
08:22Nobody can see in that bathroom.
08:24And we've had hundreds of guests stay in that bathroom.
08:26And it's literally never been an issue.
08:28Laura and Claudia can now count their cash.
08:31Starting with Sue and Roger and their £331.99 stay.
08:36£300, £320, £324.99.
08:42So that's the £7 underpayment.
08:45So I'm Roger?
08:47The underpayment was mainly because of the bath, the issue with the plug and it leaking.
08:51I'm sure you can all appreciate with houses.
08:54We get a lot of maintenance issues.
08:56The plug's already been replaced, obviously, since we've read that.
08:59So, yeah, we'll take that.
09:01We did underpay them only slightly and they took it really well.
09:05Next, it's Grace and Connor and their stay, which came to £294.99.
09:11£270, £274.
09:14That's £20.99 shortfall.
09:19So the reason for the underpayment is the cleanliness issues.
09:22Obviously, the cleanliness, if you'd have called me, I could have tried to resolve them for you.
09:26But, you know, fair point.
09:28And then the continental package itself.
09:30A lot of it is individually made. It's from individual suppliers.
09:34It really does push the price up and we don't buy in the quantities that you would buy.
09:38On reflection, it does feel harsh, but, yeah, that's how we're feeling at the time.
09:41Thank you for your payment. A disappointment, but we will accept your payment.
09:45On reflection, I actually think they're a bit embarrassed with the payment that I've done.
09:48I think they regret paying us what they did.
09:51It feels harsh a little bit, but if you're not happy with a product...
09:55You don't want to pay for it. You don't want to pay full price.
09:57Finally, it's Airless and Demelza and their £276 stay.
10:03£200 to £10 to £15 to £16.
10:08So that's an underpayment of £60.
10:13It did come down to the privacy issue in the bathroom and also a lack of intensives in the kitchen if you were required to make a meal for four.
10:21Without going over old ground, a phone call would have probably eradicated that.
10:26I'm actually struggling to talk to you all without getting upset because I expect it to be underpaid, but not potentially by that much.
10:35I still stand by the £60 underpayment. I've justified what I've paid and I'm very sad that we had to lower it to that payment, really.
10:42Am I annoyed? A thousand percent. Biggest crock of crap I've ever heard in my life.
10:47I feel like we've been penalised because they didn't call us.
10:51With Ted Stone log cabins knocking off £7, the White Lion Western holding back £20.99 and Cumya Holiday Cottages underpaying by £60,
11:02Foxlow Grange finishes with a final bill average of 90%.
11:08With half the payments in, Cumya Holiday Cottages and Ted Stone log cabins are yet to face the critics.
11:14Oh, we're definitely eating up now. Definitely a bit confrontational.
11:21It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
11:29Two sets of hosts have already found out what they've been paid.
11:32Next up, our friends Eilis Owen and Demelza Fish Jenkins.
11:36I hope you've got answers to my questions.
11:41When the guests checked out Cumya Holiday Cottages in Llanhloony, Carmarthenshire,
11:46it received a strong character reference.
11:50Cosy.
11:51This is nice. I like the sort of oldness of it as well.
11:55Oh, this looks nice.
11:57It's very rustic.
11:58Definitely lots of character.
12:00But on closer inspection, they all got a spooky surprise.
12:04Can you see it there?
12:06Looks like a well-established cobweb.
12:08Yeah, there's loads up there.
12:09I like the rustic beams, however, quite a lot of cobwebs.
12:12There's a lot of cobwebs around my head. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that.
12:15And some dust.
12:17Ooh, just a bit.
12:19And for some, the washrooms didn't wash.
12:21It's a bit rusty.
12:23Oh, mate.
12:25Not my favourite thing to have a bathroom downstairs.
12:28No.
12:29Then at feedback...
12:30How clean was Cumya Cottages?
12:32It wasn't a clean sweep.
12:34I think a six.
12:35I just feel like it needs a really good deep clean.
12:38It's going to have to be a five.
12:39I think I'd be happy with a six.
12:41Six.
12:42OK.
12:43OK.
12:44I do feel some people here are playing a game.
12:47And they are playing twin.
12:49Now around the table, Erliss and Demelza are in a fix, about a six.
12:54Conor and Grace, you scored a six for cleanliness.
12:57And he said a lot of little things adding up.
13:00Yeah, it was just a lot.
13:02It was just little things, but it's those sort of little details that then all added up into being like, well, actually, overall.
13:07But, yeah.
13:08The wooden beams, so there's a decent amount of cobwebs through them.
13:11And then just on top of the paintings through the lounge area, there's like a layer of dust over the top.
13:15Just a quick feather dust over and then right as rain.
13:18Yeah, I would, yeah.
13:19The cleaning, it's an old building, but just for us personally, we just felt there were things that have been there a while.
13:28Like, where I was laid in my bed, the light fixtures behind there was full of, like, spiders and cobwebs.
13:33Yeah, so we also found cleanliness issues.
13:36Again, it's the cobwebs. They're the bane of everybody's life, aren't they?
13:39Mm-hm.
13:40Yes, I am disappointed with the cleanliness because I am, you know, I am a clean person and I do like things clean.
13:46But I will take everything on board and I will be looking into it to improve the business to the future.
13:51We've all had some sort of cleanliness issues.
13:55I think she's possibly needing a little bit more help.
13:59I'll take everything on board and see where we go from here, see what is required.
14:04But it's the money that matters, starting with Laura and Claudia and their cottage at £139.50.
14:11130, 135, 139.50. Payment in full.
14:17Yeah, despite the cleanliness issues we had, we feel like it was really good value for money.
14:22There was a lot of space. It was well equipped for what we would need to go and explore the local area.
14:26It is a surprise, yeah. Thank you very much.
14:30Next, it's Sue and Roger's cottage, costing £178.50.
14:35140, 160, 170.
14:39An £8.50 under payment, can you explain?
14:43It was the cleanliness issues and then the bathroom being downstairs.
14:48Even though we've got a washbasin and a toilet upstairs, hasn't it?
14:50Yes, we have a washbasin and a toilet. But it's the fact that an upstairs bathroom in these days, I think, is expected really.
14:58OK, fair enough.
15:00You know, if that's what they feel they had issues, fair enough.
15:04Finally, it's Grace and Connor and their £185.50 cottage.
15:09170, 175.50. And it's a £10 under payment.
15:16For us, I think it was cleanliness and facilities, obviously, with the shower handle breaking in our hand, it was a bit of a surprise.
15:21Yeah.
15:22And I think once everything's all sorted, you can make some money.
15:25OK, thank you. Yes, thank you.
15:29Ellis and Demel's will talk our under payment pretty well. Our reasons were justified as to why we underpaid.
15:34But, yeah, they took it well.
15:36With Foxlow Grange paying the full amount, Ted Stone log cabins withholding £8.50,
15:42and the White Lion Western knocking off £10,
15:45Kumya Holiday Cottages finishes with a final bill average of 97%.
15:52The last contenders vying for this week's title are married couple Sue and Roger Benbow.
15:57This is where our chickens come home to roost.
16:00When they welcomed their rivals to Ted Stone log cabins in Ted Stone, Delamere, Herefordshire...
16:06Oh, now this is adorable, isn't it? Oh, wow.
16:10..the guests didn't go against the grain.
16:13It's definitely giving me wood.
16:18I like it. I can see there's a lot of time and effort gone into this.
16:23Oh, this is cosy. It's very rustic. Yeah. With a hint of luxury.
16:28But after taking it in, Alice and Demelza wanted more.
16:32You've just got two rooms for £275. Can't bring any friends with you.
16:37No. No. It's lovely, but it's very steep in pricing, I would say. Yeah.
16:41And later that night over drinks...
16:43Hello. Hi there. Hi there.
16:45For Laura and Claudia, it was a family affair.
16:48So, you're saying this is adults only, so if I came with my husband and two children,
16:51my husband couldn't stay in one lodge with a child and I couldn't stay in another?
16:55We try to keep it as adults only cos the idea is that it's peaceful.
16:59Come morning, at breakfast, Alice and Demelza didn't big the place up.
17:04Your injection hob's too small. Well, I'll do my toast and then I'll...
17:07You have your food warm and then I'll wait, OK?
17:10Oh, sorry, Alice. I don't like eating on my own.
17:12So, at feedback, two couples refused to return.
17:16I wouldn't be able to come here with my family.
17:18For me, it's a no. And it's a no from me too.
17:20I definitely think it's a no. No!
17:25Some of the scores are being a bit low
17:27and they'd be interesting on payment day to fight them out.
17:32Ooh, Roger.
17:34Before finding out their payments, Sue and Roger want to know
17:37why some guests said no to another go.
17:40So, Laura and Claudia, you said that you wouldn't stay again.
17:44For us, if I was to go back there,
17:46I wouldn't go back there with my other half.
17:48Erm, I would go back there with my family, as a family,
17:51cos my daughter would want to go horse riding,
17:53we would want to go see the horses.
17:55So, yeah, just... We both just felt that...
17:58That, for me, if I was to go there,
18:00I would really only go there with my family.
18:02Yeah, I totally agree with that,
18:04cos that's what we found, innit? We go as a family.
18:07There was one thing I thought immediately,
18:09I'm coming back and I'm bringing my daughter.
18:11So, it's very... It's been...
18:13It was very bittersweet, I think, like, we loved it,
18:15but then it was like... It was a heavy heart.
18:17Yeah, it was, definitely. It was hard.
18:19Yeah, we look at it as a romantic week away,
18:22and for a couple, and that's what we were...
18:25That's what we're aiming for.
18:26Yeah, the special occasions for anniversaries, honeymoons.
18:29I think they wanted a family holiday,
18:33and they didn't take on board that actually our property is for couples.
18:37I don't think they should have judged it that way.
18:39If you're looking at value for money,
18:41you have to take what you see and what you feel,
18:43but also you have to look at the practicality.
18:45I think we maybe have been too honest in the way we've been.
18:49Sue and Roger can now cash up,
18:52starting with Grace and Connor and their £275 cabin.
18:58220, 240, 260, 270, 275.
19:03Wow. Full payment, thank you.
19:06It's a luxury place, worth the money.
19:07Yes.
19:09Next, it's Laura and Claudia,
19:11and their £317 stay.
19:14310, 315, 317.
19:19So that's payment in full.
19:21Thank you very much.
19:23Yeah, even though we wouldn't come back,
19:25I think it's worth every penny.
19:27Thank you very much, appreciate that.
19:29Very much so.
19:30Good.
19:31Finally, it's Airless and Demelza,
19:33and Airless's cabin costing £275.
19:3710 to 20 to 30.
19:40So that's an underpayment of £45.
19:42Please, can you explain?
19:44Yeah.
19:45The way I look at it was expensive.
19:47OK.
19:48The hob was a massive issue
19:49because we ate breakfast separately
19:51and it was very unsociable.
19:53Do you appreciate the location it was in?
19:56Oh, you've got an absolutely gorgeous location.
19:59So isn't that worth it?
20:00Yeah, but...
20:01Isn't that worth money?
20:02Yeah, but like I say, you know,
20:04you've got to judge it as we are at present.
20:07It's not worth it.
20:08And for two people from here at the moment,
20:10it would be expensive, that's the way.
20:11OK.
20:12I will say, I just think you judged quite hard.
20:15The reasons that you've given
20:17can't justify such a big underpayment.
20:21Very disappointed the fact that we had such a big underpayment from Ellis and Demelza.
20:28I honestly judged to the best of my belief what I thought was value for money at the end of the day.
20:34With the White Lion Western and Foxlow Grange both paying the full asking price,
20:39and Cumya Holiday Cottages keeping back £45,
20:43Ted Stone Log Cabins finishes with a final bill average of 95%.
20:48With all the payments in, it's down to Sue to reveal the results.
20:53The results are in.
20:56In fourth place, it is Foxlow Grange.
21:02Yay!
21:04Obviously we're fourth place, which is a massive disappointment for us.
21:08The nice guys finishes last.
21:10And in third place is Ted Stone Log Cabins.
21:16Yay!
21:18A little bit disappointed we only came third,
21:20but it's just been such a fun week,
21:22and we've enjoyed it immensely.
21:24So the top spot is between the White Lion Western
21:27and Cumya Holiday Cottages.
21:29So, the winner is...
21:32The White Lion!
21:38I'm speechless.

22:14Yep.
22:15What does that mean next?
22:16It means we've got to get tattoos.
22:17I'm going to get mine on my arm.
