00:00Oh!
00:03Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:05These are quality.
00:06Love a good cushion shot.
00:08Check in to each other's places.
00:10Welcome to the bullying.
00:11And suss out one another.
00:13Well, I know for me and Holly, when we stay somewhere, it has to have a wow factor.
00:17Wow factor.
00:18What is a wow factor?
00:20It's probably different for everybody.
00:22Today, the pressure's on.
00:24He's making bread.
00:26You're being a bit rough, Dom.
00:28As they battle.
00:30Big plastic container.
00:32Couple of things were in plastic and not all local.
00:35To be named best value for money.
00:37Do you think they'll come again?
00:38No.
00:39No.
00:40I fully expected that.
00:47The third visit of the week is to Woods Eves in Staffordshire.
00:51And Copper Beach Glamping, owned by Tabitha and Steve Cartmail.
00:55A pair who know their best assets.
00:58So Tabitha, she's always right and great attention to detail.
01:03If you cut Steve in half like a stick of rock, he would have farming through the middle of him.
01:10Those looking for a sweet stay can choose from three glamping units priced up to £177.50 per night, based on a two-night minimum.
01:19With an optional breakfast hamper priced from £12, in a place the hosts think is cream of the crop.
01:26I feel what makes us stand out is that it's a whole complete experience.
01:31Hot tub under the stars.
01:33Helping themselves to veg off the veg patch.
01:35Peace and quiet.
01:36Being able to switch off.
01:38And with their rivals on the way, Tabitha's having a muse on the reviews.
01:43I take criticism very personally.
01:47And I'm just going to have to, I'm going to have to toughen up for this.
01:52About to arrive are today's first guests.
01:55My worst nightmare would be creepy crawlies and snakes.
02:00Snakes.
02:01There's no snakes here.
02:02Shedding their troubles, our married couple Anna Taylor and Dominic Nicholas, owners of the Bull Inn in Stanford-Dingley, Berkshire.
02:11On the first visit over drinks, Tabitha and Steve served up CVs.
02:16I have been a college lecturer for 30 years.
02:20Wow.
02:21And have then gone into hospitality four years ago.
02:24I support Tabitha's business, but basically I'm a farmer.
02:27Stephen Tabitha's place.
02:28All I know is, it's potentially...
02:31In the middle of the field.
02:32Glamping.
02:33It's just not something I'm interested in.
02:35And today, the couple are pitching up.
02:38I am extremely excited about seeing Tabitha and Stephen's place.
02:42I know you've been banging on about it open enough.
02:45It's going to be two things.
02:46We super love it, or we super hate it.
02:49Oh, we have a message come through from Tabitha.
02:52The cost of accommodation is 177.50 pence.
02:56You can self-check in on arrival.
02:58The key will be in the key box in the porch.
03:05There's horses here to greet us.
03:07This is lovely.
03:08Oh, wow.
03:12Oh, they look lovely, this.
03:16Oh, wow.
03:17This is really beautiful.
03:19If that's what glamping is all about, sign me up any day.
03:22Any day.
03:23With Dominic and Anna touching wood, today's next guests are ploughing in.
03:28Tractor. It's like home from home.
03:30Tractors and cows.
03:32We're a bit in our comfort zone.
03:33On familiar ground are besties Kerry Mackenzie and Vicky Billingham of the Redmire Village Pub in Redmire, North Yorkshire.
03:42Last time out over drinks, Tabitha made a splash.
03:45The strap line of our business is escape the everyday.
03:49We're selling an experience, not accommodation.
03:53So today, Kerry and Vicky are pondering the place.
03:57What do you think is going to, what it's going to be like today?
04:00Well, I think we're going to be fairly rural.
04:02Yeah.
04:03It'll be a better night's sleep than listening to sirens and traffic and things like that.
04:08Just got a text message.
04:10We hope you're looking forward to your stay in Shepherd's View.
04:14Ooh.
04:15The cost of your stay is £147.50.
04:19Yay.
04:20The hot tub will be filled and the fire prepared and ready for your arrival.
04:24All you need to do is light it.
04:27Morning.
04:28Morning, Tabitha.
04:29Everything's ready for you in Shepherd's View.
04:30Settle in and let me know if you need anything.
04:34This looks lovely.
04:35Looks gorgeous.
04:38Oh, wow.
04:39This looks really cute.
04:41This is really lovely.
04:42It is.
04:43Yeah.
04:44With Kerry and Vicky sweet on the place, today's next guests are soaking up the surroundings.
04:50Rural round here?
04:51It is, isn't it?
04:52It's very scenic.
04:53Did you bring your wellies?
04:54I don't own a pair of wellies.
04:55No, me neither.
04:57Putting their best foot forward,
04:59a couple Ben Dean and Holly Harper,
05:02owners of the Yorkshire hosts in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
05:05When they hosted last time...
05:07We're in.
05:08...despite a great first impression...
05:10It's a high quality finish, isn't it?
05:12Oh, it's certainly more than adequate.
05:14...come morning, Tabitha and Steve hadn't got their 40 winks.
05:17Woken by the sunlight this morning, bleeding through our blind.
05:21Which meant at feedback...
05:22Would you stay here again?
05:24...they weren't keen to commit.
05:26It doesn't offer what we would be looking for.
05:29No.
05:30And having slept on it, feedback is very much at the forefront.
05:34Yeah, it definitely touched your nerves more than I thought it would.
05:38But I don't think that means it can have an effect on how we judge Steve and Tabitha.
05:42It's got to be a fair game.
05:44Yeah.
05:45Oh, we've got a message from Tabitha.
05:47We hope you are looking forward to your stay in the potting shed.
05:50The cost of your stay is £147.50.
05:58OK.
05:59Yeah, it's cosy.
06:01Yeah.
06:02I'm intrigued where those ladders go.
06:04With the hosts out of the way, the guests can see if Copper Beach leaves a shining example.
06:10These are really soft, good throws.
06:12Look what I found!
06:13What did you find?
06:15My favourite.
06:16Hot water bottle.
06:17Let's have a little look.
06:19Squeaky clean.
06:20I love these little touches with all the mugs and things.
06:22Yeah.
06:23And it looks really clean.
06:25Into the bathroom.
06:26OK.
06:27This is big.
06:28A two-person shower in a shed is quite impressive.
06:31Oh, they're nice and fluffy and squishy, aren't they?
06:34Have you smelt them?
06:35Oh, they smell really nice.
06:37I love the bedding.
06:39It's nice when it's not just white linen.
06:41And the quality as well.
06:43Here we go.
06:44Let's go up.
06:45It's a little bit tight.
06:46Oh, my word.
06:48Very clean.
06:50Oh, wow.
06:52That sinks.
06:53That's really soft.
06:54I'll have to roll out of here in the morning, I think.
06:56We definitely have everything we need.
06:58The wine opener is the most important thing.
07:01The bed, the mattress, is comfy.
07:04Oh.
07:05We've got a short and curly.
07:07Oh, dear.
07:08The hot tub is real luxury.
07:10And look at the view.
07:12Oh, that's freezing.
07:14Definitely need the fire on.
07:16This is for heating the hot tub.
07:19How do you think the water gets warm?
07:20I don't know.
07:21It's not from sunlight.
07:22We live in the UK.
07:23This must be the storage.
07:25It's probably just not the way we would store our clothes usually, is it?
07:28Not quite, no.
07:30Wow.
07:31Can't see that.
07:32Wow.
07:33Room inspection's almost over.
07:35Ben and Holly are dead tired.
07:37It's a little bit cosy.
07:38It's interesting.
07:39It's got coffin vibes.
07:41The cap fits for Dominic and Anna.
07:44It's a bit like one of those fancy hats you wear at a wedding.
07:46Only you would see that.
07:48And Vicky and Kerry do it by the book.
07:52Using the Hobbit log burner.
07:54Oh.
07:55Well, you're used to that with your Bilbo Baggins toes.
07:57To not reference my toes.
08:02Staffordshire is famed as the birthplace of Marmite.
08:06Created when a scientist realised that a beer by-product could be bottled and eaten.
08:11And today, hosts Tabitha and Steve hope their guests will love, not hate, their day out.
08:17With a trip to a local cookery school for a pasta-making lesson.
08:21I think you're going to be the worst at making pasta.
08:23What?
08:24I mean, I know I will be the worst at making pasta, but you could have at least pretended that you don't think the same way.
08:31Today, the group will be making tortellini under the guidance of Chef Craig.
08:35In front of you, you've got a little recipe booklet.
08:37At the very top is the pasta dough recipe.
08:40So if one person wants to start breaking the eggs and separating the yolks into the bowl.
08:44Eggs cracked and wisecracks made.
08:47Makes a change from cracking jokes, doesn't it?
08:49Oh, yeah.
08:50Have you been cracking jokes? Have we not been around for that?
08:55Next, the guests whisk and combine with flour to make a dough.
08:59He's making bread.
09:01You're being a bit rough, Dom.
09:03And it seems feedback is on everyone's lips.
09:06You can think about that feedback and give it a good old going over.
09:13I think people might have expected us to be a little bit quiet or maybe a bit reserved after receiving the feedback.
09:18But, I don't know, I think we've been on top form. We've just been ourselves, aren't we?
09:22Definitely, yeah.
09:23I think Ben and Holly have been quite happy with their feedback because they've come at it full chat again today.
09:28They've really thrown themselves into it.
09:30I'm guessing we'll find out once we get the feedback forms.
09:34With the group on a roll...
09:36It's not going in.
09:37It's not going in.
09:38You're going the wrong way with your handle.
09:40You are.
09:41Yay!
09:42It's time to make the filling, but Dominic wants to get filled in.
09:47What connection do you guys have with this cookery school?
09:50Our family have supplied the butchers, which is linked to the cookery school for probably 30 to 40 years.
09:55Oh, wow.
09:56It's really important to us to kind of try and keep things as local as possible.
10:00We work on food meters, not food miles.
10:03You will be having the eggs from our hens in your breakfast packs.
10:07You can probably hear them laying them.
10:09I really enjoy the cooking class.
10:12Yeah, same here.
10:13I think Steve and Tabitha's connection with the cooking school is amazing.
10:17The connection to local products, especially the farming industry and the hospitality industry,
10:21I think is so important.
10:23With the guests fulfilled and filling prepared, the group shape their pasta into tortellini.
10:29What do you think of these then, Craig?
10:31Yeah, I think you should come back and give it another go at some point.
10:34These, however, I think you've probably got the best ones here.
10:38Yes!
10:39Yes!
10:41I think Dom and Anna made the best pasta.
10:43They had attention to detail and accuracy.
10:45I think when we go to Dom and Anna's, there's a big focus on quality.
10:49I'm thinking kind of gastropub, restaurant with rooms.
10:53And with the class coming to an end, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
10:57Is that nice, Ben?
10:58Oh, it's spot on.
10:59Yeah, very good.
11:00Excellent.
11:01And the hosts have something simmering.
11:03We've had a wonderful afternoon, all cooking together, and really looking forward to getting
11:08everybody round the fire pit to end the evening off.
11:10Or even a sing song.
11:11The third visit of the week is to Woods Eves Staffordshire and Copper Beach Glamping, where
11:26tonight hosts Tabitha and Steve have selected a special setting for a sunny summer evening.
11:31Cheers!
11:32Cheers!
11:33Cheers!
11:34Cheers!
11:35And with drinks raised, Holly gets down to it.
11:37So how have you come to run this place, Em?
11:39I've sort of lived more or less on the farm all my life.
11:42All your life?
11:43All my life.
11:44Yeah, the thing I've always said about Steve is if you cut him in half, he'd be like a
11:48stick of rock and it would just say farming all the way through him.
11:52And it's lovely to see it evolve.
11:55It means a lot to me, and Tabitha's invested a lot of time and her sort of personality onto
12:00the site, haven't you?
12:01Steve is very much born and bred in this exact field, which is quite nice.
12:05There's a lot of sentimental feelings around that.
12:07Tabitha, you can tell that she belongs here.
12:09And she's got so much passion, which is really nice to see.
12:12Glamp site gone over.
12:14Steve susses if his guests are settling in.
12:17Anna and Dom, are you relaxing?
12:19We definitely are.
12:20To be honest with you, I have been very apprehensive about this destination.
12:25I've never done glamping before.
12:26But as we walked through the doors, I was just gobsmarked.
12:29It's just amazing.
12:31We've done glamping.
12:32It wasn't our cup of tea.
12:34We had a wood-fired hot tub before, which we got going as we arrived in the afternoon
12:40and it wasn't hot until the next morning just as we were leaving.
12:43So Tabitha and I had this conversation about who we put in which accommodation
12:47and I said, Ben will be useless at lighting a fire.
12:52I think the atmosphere in the group is absolutely fantastic.
12:54I'm hoping so that they realise that it is a real labour of love.
12:57You just hope that people that come embrace it.
13:00You know, embrace it.
13:01Guests stoked.
13:02Ben delves into Dominic and Anna's digs.
13:05I know you said this was your first time glamping.
13:07That kind of makes me think that your place has a roof.
13:11Yeah, it has a roof.
13:13We have a gastro vibe.
13:15We're all about the countryside and it's got a lot of tradition.
13:18The place is 500 years old.
13:20Ooh.
13:21Ooh.
13:22I presume we're going to get a good hearty breakfast.
13:24Yes, you will indeed.
13:25We do specialise in catering for large groups of people and stuff,
13:30so it's not our first rodeo.
13:32Ooh.
13:33Ooh.
13:34I think it could be drafty.
13:36It could be.
13:37It's going to have bags of character, isn't it?
13:39Yeah.
13:40Drink's done.
13:41The guests take a dip.
13:43I'm pretty happy with this.
13:44Are you?
13:45Yeah, I've been pleasantly surprised, I have to say.
13:48This experience is second in land.
13:50We're really lucky to enjoy it here.
13:52Moon's out.
13:53I've absolutely loved this experience.
13:55Cheers, mate.
14:02It's the dawn of a new day in Staffordshire.
14:05Morning.
14:06Morning.
14:07That's for you.
14:08Thank you very much.
14:09I can't believe you're still in the hotel.
14:11Oh, if I could have slept in it, I would.
14:12I slept like a log.
14:14How did we sleep?
14:15Not great.
14:16No.
14:17You were up and down all night waking me up on the stairs,
14:19and then I was trapped in the corner of the bed,
14:22not being able to go to the toilet.
14:23I got a little bit chilly at about 2am.
14:26I did try to get the electric radiator working,
14:29but I couldn't get it going.
14:31Did you not sleep well?
14:32No, not at all.
14:33That bed is far too soft.
14:34I'm a bit icky today.
14:36Breakfast at Copper Beach is self-catered,
14:39with a selection of breakfast hampers on offer for up to £27.
14:43I'll be delivering the hampers this morning that they've pre-ordered.
14:48Here is your gardener's breakfast.
14:50Thank you very much.
14:51Hope you enjoy.
14:52A variety of local produce,
14:54ranging from the healthy fruit and yoghurt
14:57through to the slightly more indulgent bacon and sausages.
15:00Here is your bespoke breakfast hamper.
15:02Thank you very much.
15:03Hope you enjoy.
15:04I'm confident that they'll enjoy it.
15:06Hampers delivered.
15:07Here's your deluxe breakfast.
15:08Hope you enjoy.
15:10The guests sample the selection.
15:12I think it looks quite well presented.
15:14Smells lovely.
15:16And then we've got some nice fresh fruit there.
15:18Looks like it's from the garden.
15:19Oh, wow.
15:21They look really good.
15:22You can tell they're locally sour sausages.
15:24What have we got here then?
15:25Big plastic container.
15:27That's surprising.
15:29Essex.
15:30Not that local.
15:31No, the jams aren't local.
15:32You'd expect them to be local.
15:34Tabitha delivered the lovely hamper this morning for breakfast.
15:37Yeah, very well presented, wasn't it?
15:39Yeah.
15:40Couple of things were in plastic, which was a shame to see.
15:43And not all local.
15:44Jams from Essex.
15:45Yeah, not too local.
15:46No, I don't think so.
15:48Hampers critiqued.
15:50The guests get cracking.
15:52It's a double yolk.
15:54Whoa!
15:55How many slices of bread do you want?
15:57Just one, please.
15:58The crust or middle?
16:00Nobody eats a crust.
16:02I'm hoping they've got brown sauce.
16:04That's the only thing I can see that we've not got.
16:07No.
16:08Cooking complete.
16:10Bon appetit.
16:11The guests chow down.
16:13Oh yeah, look at that.
16:14Is that good?
16:15Oh!
16:16Okay.
16:17Good job I got a double yolk.
16:18Yeah, that's true.
16:19Nice eggs though.
16:20They're lovely eggs.
16:21I don't know if it was an option to have beans or black pudding or hash browns or anything
16:26like that.
16:27But the produce was really good and it was all cooked really, really lovely.
16:31What was supplied in the hamper was very good quality, but beans would have been nice,
16:36I think.
16:37Oh, and brown sauce.
16:38Yeah.
16:39Produce picked over.
16:41The group evaluate their experience.
16:43Think it was worth the price?
16:44I definitely think so.
16:45You're paying for the overall whole experience, which is that view, the hot tub, the location.
16:51I think they've got everything you need here for the price.
16:53It comes down to sleep at the end of the day.
16:55And if you're not getting a good night's sleep, then that really brings the value down.
17:00Breakfast digested.
17:01It's time to fill out the anonymous feedback forms.
17:04Right.
17:05Let's do this.
17:06Let's do it.
17:07How were your hosts at Copper Beach glamping?
17:09Friendly welcome from Tabitha.
17:1110 out of 10.
17:12Absolutely.
17:13Steve and Tabitha have been great.
17:15Great hosts.
17:1610?
17:1710.
17:18How clean was Copper Beach glamping?
17:20Overall, very clean.
17:22Short and curly in the bed.
17:24Yeah.
17:25I think a nine for that.
17:26Yeah.
17:27Definitely.
17:28So how are the facilities?
17:29Fantastic.
17:30Glamping on another level.
17:3110, I think.
17:32We're going to struggle to beat this.
17:34Outdoor bath.
17:35Lovely.
17:36Surprise.
17:37There was a lack of storage.
17:38Couldn't get radiator to work.
17:41I think we should go for seven.
17:42Seven.
17:43How do you sleep?
17:44Super comfy.
17:4510 out of 10.
17:46We didn't sleep, did we?
17:47No, not at all.
17:49Mattress, really uncomfortable.
17:51Woke up really sore and achy.
17:54I would say seven.
17:55Seven.
17:56The bed was actually really comfortable.
17:58It was just a shame that the layout doesn't really work.
18:02Yeah, it was very broken.
18:03I don't feel recharged, do you?
18:05No, I don't.
18:06The ceiling height within the room.
18:09Far too low.
18:10Yeah, not to mention the very steep ladders.
18:14I think it's got to be six.
18:15Six.
18:16How was breakfast?
18:18Fresh local produce.
18:19I feel like the hamper maybe could have had a wider variety.
18:22It's still a very good nine.
18:23Breakfast was good.
18:24Well presented hamper.
18:26There was a few things in there that didn't quite match up with the ethos.
18:30Yoghurt in plastic.
18:32Jam's not local.
18:34Let's call them an eight.
18:35I think eight's perfect.
18:37So you ready for the big question?
18:39Yes.
18:40Would you stay here again?
18:42100%.
18:43Definitely.
18:44Yes.
18:45I just think something such as sleep really does let it down.
18:48Yeah.
18:49So the answer is no.
18:53Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:56Are you sure?
18:57Mm-hmm.
18:58I am.
18:59The cash will be kept secret until the end of the competition.
19:02But for now, Tabitha and Steve can find out if their guests thought Copper Beach set a gold standard.
19:08Let's have a look then.
19:09Okay.
19:10How are the facilities?
19:1110.
19:12Fantastic.
19:13Glamping on another level.
19:15That's a good start.
19:16Are you feeling all right?
19:17Yes.
19:20How did you sleep?
19:2110.
19:22Super comfy?
19:24It is.
19:25It's a good quality mattress on there.
19:27How was breakfast?
19:28Nine.
19:29Oh, nearly a full score.
19:31So we've dropped a point there.
19:32All right.
19:33Well, let's see how.
19:34Fresh produce all local.
19:35It's got to be local and it's got to be quality.
19:37Hamper could have had a little wider selection.
19:40I'm always happy to kind of make a bespoke hamper if somebody actually puts a particular request in.
19:47Do you think they'll want to stay here again?
19:48Yeah.
19:49Yes.
19:50Really pleased.
19:51We've obviously delivered.
19:54Are you ready?
19:55Yep, I think so.
19:56How were your hosts at Copper Beach glamping?
19:58I'm really into you.
20:0010.
20:01Oh, fantastic.
20:02Yeah.
20:03Friendly welcoming from Tabitha.
20:05Really pleased with that.
20:06How clean was Copper Beach glamping?
20:08Nine.
20:09Nine.
20:10Overall very clean, which I'd be disappointed if it wasn't.
20:13It wasn't, yeah.
20:14A short and curly in the bed.
20:16Really disappointed about that because I went over that so many times.
20:20How did you sleep?
20:21Seven.
20:22That's disappointing.
20:23Mattress really uncomfortable.
20:25Woke up really sore and achy.
20:27I don't think at this stage I would be changing the mattress because we get so many positive comments about it.
20:35Do you think they want to stay here again?
20:36I don't know.
20:37Do you have a look?
20:38Yep.
20:39Yes.
20:40So that's...
20:41That's great.
20:43So two out of two?
20:44Let's go for it.
20:45How were your hosts at Copper Beach glamping?
20:4710.
20:4810.
20:49Great hosts.
20:51It is lovely to hear it.
20:52We're aimed to please and that's what we're there for.
20:54How were the facilities?
20:55Seven.
20:56Disappointing.
20:57Outdoor bath a lovely surprise.
20:59Excellent.
21:00Minimal storage.
21:01There's not anything else we can do with the space that there is.
21:04Couldn't get the radiator to work.
21:06It was working.
21:07I checked an hour before they arrived and it was operational.
21:11How did you sleep?
21:12Six.
21:13They're not happy bunnies are they?
21:15So they had a comfy bed.
21:16Excellent.
21:17Broken sleep and don't feel recharged.
21:19Did they say why there was a broken sleep?
21:21No.
21:22Because the bed was comfy so it wasn't lack of comfort.
21:25The ceiling was too low.
21:28It's not something we can do anything about.
21:30Tricky ladder.
21:31A ladder's a ladder.
21:32A ladder's a ladder.
21:33I go up and down that ladder with no hands carrying bedding.
21:36So how was breakfast?
21:37Eight.
21:38Happy with that?
21:39Ish.
21:40Well presented hamper.
21:41It is?
21:42Hopefully it is.
21:43Yogurt in plastic.
21:44The plastic is already recycled and is fully recyclable as well.
21:49Jam's not local.
21:50Local suppliers.
21:51I cannot find anybody that will supply them in single serve jars.
21:56Do you think they'll come again?
21:57No.
21:58I don't think they will either.
21:59I don't think they will.
22:00No.
22:01No.
22:02I fully expected that.
22:04Overall I'm reasonably happy but there'll be one or two questions asked on payment day.
22:08I think it's just a few things we perhaps need to clarify.
22:12Next time at Dominic and Anna's place.
22:14Hiya.
22:15Hello.
22:16Welcome to the Bull Inn.
22:17The hosts have their ducks in a row.
22:19Look at all the geese.
22:20They've come out to see us.
22:21Oh wow.
22:22I'll have to pay them later.
22:24And the pressure starts to bite.
22:26Not really looking forward to feedback day.
22:28Some of the things I'd like to kind of clarify I think.
22:31.
22:56.
22:58.
23:04.
23:19.
23:21.
23:23.
23:24.
