00:00Three, two, one, go!
00:05Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:07That is definitely a wealth factor, isn't it?
00:10Check in to each other's places.
00:12Hi! Welcome to the White Lion.
00:14And check out one another.
00:16Don't forget your swimsuits.
00:18Roger and a mankini, well, I wouldn't recommend it.
00:21I think that's four, five a day's ordinary, I think.
00:24Today, there's trouble in the air.
00:26Oh, no, that smells.
00:28As they battle.
00:29You don't know what people's reaction's going to be to our comments.
00:33To be named best value for money.
00:35I don't think that answer at all is justified.
00:44The final visit of the week is to Tedstone Delamere in Herefordshire
00:48and Tedstone Log Cabins,
00:50owned by married couple Sue and Roger Benbow,
00:54the definition of wedded bliss.
00:56People have said we've got the perfect marriage,
00:58but I don't know, no marriage is perfect.
01:00But we feel we're very lucky because we've been married 30 years now
01:03and don't quite like each other.
01:07At times.
01:07Guests looking for the perfect match can pick from one of three self-catered log cabins
01:15for up to £282 per night, including a small welcome pack based on a two-night minimum
01:21and have a stay that's one of a kind.
01:24We wanted to do something different to everyone else.
01:27They are bespoke log cabins, handmade by Tom, our neighbour.
01:31I think what makes them unique is the craftsmanship.
01:35And the pair are confident their on-site riding school makes it a thoroughbred location.
01:40The beauty of our place is you've got the riding school so close to it,
01:45so you have the opportunity you could go riding.
01:48You just don't get that just anywhere, do you?
01:50Today's first guests are about to arrive and are bunking up.
01:54I'm used to show in my bed with two dogs.
01:57I've actually got a bit more room.
01:59I fully thought you were a friend to me as a dog.
02:00Oh, no.
02:02In the doghouse are Connor Keddy and Grace Knowles
02:06of the White Lion Western in Western Cheshire.
02:09Over drinks on the last visit, Sue dished out details.
02:13Our property is very bespoke.
02:17It is self-checking.
02:18And it is self-catering, but we do leave a little welcome basket for you.
02:23So today, Connor and Grace are cooking up opinions.
02:27We're the only ones that haven't got self-checking and self-catering.
02:31Yeah.
02:31I feel a bit cheated that we haven't had breakfast made for us.
02:37Yeah.
02:37I think self-checking is a slight cop-out.
02:40We have a message.
02:42You'll stay at Headstone Log Cabins.
02:45That sounds quite nice.
02:45Log Cabins.
02:46You will be staying in Rowan, which costs £275 per night,
02:52based on a two-night minimum stay.
02:54The key can be found in the key safe to the left of the door,
02:56and they've got the code as well.
02:58It's a great view, isn't it?
03:00Yeah.
03:00It's gorgeous.
03:01Oh, now, this is adorable, isn't it?
03:05Oh, wow.
03:05Hot tub.
03:06Little outdoor seating area, got all the bench and everything.
03:10That was easy enough.
03:13Oh, it's nice and warm.
03:15It's definitely giving me wood.
03:17With Connor and Grace branching out,
03:22today's next guests are comedy genii.
03:24Not everyone finds my jokes as funny as me,
03:27which can be a little bit awkward sometimes.
03:31Like that one.
03:36Good for a giggle are Laura Mews and Claudia Pardo
03:39of Foxlow Grange in Buxton, Derbyshire.
03:43Earlier this week, during a quiz about farming,
03:46Roger was sheepish.
03:48I'm a bit of a sheep farmer, and if I get it wrong,
03:50he's going to make me look really bad.
03:53So today, no-one's pulling the wool over Laura and Claudia's eyes.
03:58I've got high expectations for the place.
04:00I'm feeling like it's going to be rural, animal-related farms,
04:05stables, barn.
04:07Oh, we've got a text coming.
04:09Your stay at Willow Tedstone Log Cabins.
04:13Oh!
04:13The price is £282 per night.
04:17I'm excited about this stair.
04:20Oh, this looks lovely.
04:21Really nice views, aren't they?
04:23Ponies!
04:24I like this.
04:24It looks really nice.
04:28Oh, this is cosy.
04:29I like that it's very rustic, with a hint of luxury.
04:34With Laura and Claudia knocking on wood, the next guests are enjoying some me time.
04:39It'd be actually quite rejuvenating to go away without the kids or the husbands.
04:44It's quite nice, actually.
04:45It's been different, hasn't it?
04:46Oh, my God.
04:48Singled out, our friends Airlis Owen and Demelza Fish Jenkins, of Cumyar Holiday Cottages in
04:54Clanclooney, Carmarthenshire.
04:56When they hosted last time...
04:58Cosy.
04:59This is nice.
05:00...the guests were caught in a web.
05:01That looks like a well-established cobweb up there.
05:05It's like Halloween on steroids.
05:07I like the rustic beams, however, quite a lot of cobwebs.
05:10And come feedback...
05:11How clean was Cumyar Holiday Cottages?
05:14They spun a tale.
05:16And I think a six.
05:17I think I'd be happy with a six.
05:19I think it's going to have to be a five.
05:21Five.
05:21Oh, I'm disappointed with that, I must say.
05:25But today, Airlis and Demelza are dusting themselves off.
05:28The biggest issue I felt a bit disappointed was the cleanliness.
05:33That's an issue I will bring up on payment day.
05:36But, you know, I'm not going to change my way of judging, because, you know...
05:40It's not fair on Cumyar Holiday if we do that.
05:43I've got the check-in message.
05:45Your stay at Tedstone Log Cabins.
05:48The cost of your stay is £275 per night.
05:53Right, come on then, off we go.
05:55Let's see what we've got here.
05:56I like it.
05:58I can see there's a lot of time and effort gone into this.
06:01With the hosts out of the way,
06:03the guests leave no stone unturned at Tedstone.
06:07That's a good bed.
06:10Oh, I like this.
06:11It is quite spacious.
06:13Everything is bespoke.
06:14The handles are bespoke.
06:18I think the sofa's well-placed.
06:20It means that I can enjoy the view while you're watching the football.
06:23Do you know what I really like?
06:24Is they've even thought about the doorstop.
06:26And it's the same wood as the building.
06:28The attention to detail.
06:29Yeah.
06:30Oh, wow.
06:31This is different.
06:32This is lovely.
06:34I've never seen something like this.
06:36They've all got pillow protectors, so that's good.
06:38Yep.
06:38There's a pillow underneath, nice and clean as well.
06:40It's just a shame there's lead there.
06:42It just looks untidy down to the bottom.
06:44Yeah.
06:46Not a speck in sight.
06:48Nice bedding.
06:50Bathroom looks pretty immaculate.
06:52Nice and clean up there.
06:54Very clean, to be honest.
06:56It's not easy to keep an oven clean in a holiday.
07:01It's annoyingly clean.
07:03That's clean.
07:04It's super clean.
07:05It's faultless.
07:06If I wanted it to cook, I'm a bit ashamed that it's only two.
07:10For me, it's not quite adequate.
07:12Yeah, let's see how we get on in the morning.
07:15Bit dusty.
07:16Yeah.
07:16I think Roger needs to get his feather dust around.
07:19Rum inspection's almost over.
07:20Eilis and Demelza are contemplating the charge.
07:24You've just got two rooms for £275.
07:27Can't bring any friends with you.
07:29No.
07:29It's lovely, but it's very steep in pricing, I would say.
07:32Yeah.
07:33Laura and Claudia are tooled up.
07:35Ooh, it's a spatula scenario.
07:37Could fry an egg with that.
07:40While Connor and Grace are blending in.
07:42Do you think Roger will have me in his flock?
07:44In the 14th century, children in Herefordshire were baptised in cider,
07:59on the grounds that it was cleaner than most water.
08:02And today, hosts Sue and Roger want their guests to drink in an afternoon at their riding school.
08:07We're going horse riding.
08:10Yay!
08:11I'm just devastated I've taken my riding hat out of the car.
08:14As the guests arrive at the paddock...
08:17Hiya!
08:17Hello, you guys!
08:18Hello, everyone!
08:19..the hosts are on hand to greet them, alongside daughter Isabel.
08:23We've run a riding school business here since 1990.
08:27And we're a really busy riding school.
08:29We have about 80 riders come each week.
08:32All ages, all abilities, from sort of like four-year-olds to, I think our eldest is 79.
08:38Wow.
08:39So you'll be all OK to ride.
08:43And while Roger and Isabel show the group how it's done...
08:46Yay!
08:48Come on, Roger!
08:50Come on!
08:51Woo!
08:54It seems for last visits, hosts, when it comes to feedback, there's no hurdle to overcome.
09:00This is the first time we've seen Alison DeMalta since we gave feedback about their property.
09:06I think they've been all right.
09:07I don't think there's been any difference in...
09:09No, I don't want to take.
09:10..at all.
09:11Since the feedback, everything's been good atmosphere, yeah.
09:15If you start taking it personally, then you're not in the right job.
09:19With feedback nae problem, the hosts show the guests how to groom the Gigi's.
09:25And then you come to this shoulder here.
09:27Give them a really hard brush like that.
09:29And while Eilis and Demelza brush up...
09:32Good boy!
09:32..the rest of the group get educated on the school.
09:35So the guests that come and stay with you, do a lot of them get involved with the riding school staff as well?
09:39We do have a few come round, and most of them love seeing the horses in the field below them.
09:44They think that's lovely.
09:45So I started riding when I was about three, and then got my own pony when I was 11.
09:49I had the best childhood, having a pony.
09:52Yeah, full circle now.
09:54My daughter's into ponies.
09:56Sue told us that they do have guests here that come and enjoy the facilities and the riding school.
10:01I'd be interested to know whether she has families come here as well, or if it's just purely adults only.
10:07Questions raised, the group saddle up and take their horses out on the country lanes, led by their hosts.
10:13And after Laura and Claudia trot on...
10:16What's my horsey called?
10:18Buck.
10:18You're on Mack.
10:20Mack and Buck.
10:21Grace and Connor take the reins.
10:23Yeah.
10:23Go on, Gracie!
10:25Come on, Grace!
10:26Yes!
10:29Never been on a horse, just on a carousel.
10:32How are you feeling up there, Grace?
10:33Yeah.
10:33They look sort of big and scary, and then when you're on one, you just feel quite powerful.
10:39First time for everything.
10:40I didn't think I was going to like it, but I ended up really enjoying it.
10:43So thanks, Sue and Roger, for letting us ride our horses, really.
10:46With horsing around coming to an end, the hosts are galloping ahead.
10:50Had a good afternoon so far.
10:53Hopefully, after feedback, I won't be a stroppy mare.
10:56Oh, I don't know about that.
10:57The final visit of the week is to Tedstone Delamere in Herefordshire and Tedstone Log Cabins.
11:11Hello!
11:12Hi there!
11:12Hi there!
11:13Where tonight, hosts Sue and Roger have invited their guests to warm their cockles around the campfire.
11:19Cheers to us!
11:20Cheers!
11:21Glass is raised, Grace wants the lowdown.
11:24So, Roger, Sue, tell us, what's the story of the cabins?
11:27I had some money to invest.
11:29We just thought, perhaps we should start doing a holiday let, but we wanted to do something a little bit different.
11:35So, a neighbour of ours, who is a tree surgeon, he built one for himself, just a small one,
11:40and we were thinking, perhaps Tom could build us one.
11:43So, Tom built these three log cabins, just with a chainsaw, all by hand.
11:49The detail inside of them log cabins is next level.
11:53The handles are incredible.
11:54They did cost me a lot of money.
11:57I think it's clear that a lot of love and passion has gone into the log cabins themselves.
12:02Annoyingly, this is definitely a contender.
12:05It's just self-checking, self-catering.
12:07We like that welcome when we walk through the door.
12:09I think, is this one bedroom in all of these then?
12:12Was that a conscious decision?
12:13When we put them in, we put sofa beds in there, all of them, and then we thought, actually, we only want couples.
12:19It just suits us.
12:20So, you're saying this is adults only, so if I came with my husband and two children, my husband couldn't stay in one lodge with a child and I couldn't stay in another?
12:27Is it adults only?
12:28We try to keep it as adults only because the idea is that it's peaceful.
12:32So, what about groups of girls?
12:34That would be fine.
12:35We tend to go away as a family and we do everything as a family.
12:39It's a shame that they've narrowed their market, to be honest.
12:42We did originally think, perhaps, yes, we would have families because of the riding being a draw.
12:47But our business plan changed.
12:49I'm hoping they won't underpay us because what they've got is not just a place to stay in, it's an experience.
12:57Group Not Kidding Around, the chat gets serious.
13:00I've really enjoyed spending this week with you all.
13:02Absolutely.
13:03It's been great going to visit all these three different properties to mine.
13:08So, has anyone here found a nice little spot on their wall for the plaque?
13:13Ours is going to go right above the bed that you two slept on.
13:17Well, we're all getting on really now, but when the paints will come out, who knows?
13:22It could change.
13:24Hopefully, we'll still go home, friends.
13:26Drink's done.
13:27It's back to the cabins, where later that evening, some of the guests take the plunge.
13:33Making memories, one clink at a time.
13:35Cheers.
13:37I feel very lonely.
13:39Oh, kind of hit.
13:42See you in the morning.
13:44OK, good night.
13:45Ta-da, buddy.
13:46Ta-da.
13:47The sun is up in Herefordshire.
13:51How did you sleep last night?
13:53Yeah, very good and very nice and very cosy.
13:55The linen was really nice, really soft.
13:58I slept OK.
13:59I quite liked the mattress and the pillows.
14:01They suited me.
14:03The only thing I thought is I was really itchy.
14:06I had to get out of bed and actually put cream on my legs, because they were itching that much.
14:09At Tedstone Log Cabins, it's down to the guests to cook up a storm.
14:14But Sue and Roger don't see clouds on the horizon.
14:17I think we have provided everything they need to cook a really delicious breakfast.
14:22We do provide a welcome pack, which includes some eggs, some bread, butter and milk.
14:27So I think they shouldn't have a problem.
14:29This morning, the guests will be adding their own ingredients.
14:33But first, they pick apart the packs.
14:36Got some nice fresh eggs in there from the farm.
14:39Scrambled egg on toast, it is.
14:41This is a lovely church.
14:42I do like this.
14:44Milk in an old-fashioned bottle.
14:46Yeah.
14:47That's really nice.
14:48Would have been nice to have some bread with it, but obviously with the date scribbled out,
14:52I don't know if I trust it.
14:54Yeah, it's not for me, that.
14:55Next, the group sussed the set up.
14:57Some scales in there if you wanted to make a cake.
14:59Nice.
15:00That's quite handy.
15:00I think we have everything that we need to make breakfast with it.
15:03There's oven trays and things like that.
15:06I wouldn't take this as acceptable.
15:08I've thrown better those away.
15:10I've got to be honest, so have I.
15:12Because this is the high end of the market, I would have expected better.
15:16Kitchen's considered.
15:18The guests get cracking with the cooking.
15:20Do you know what's really nice?
15:21The seeds go all the way through.
15:23They're not just sprinkled on the top.
15:25Yeah, that one's a bit funny coloured.
15:28Oh, I know that smells.
15:30Give that away.
15:33No.
15:34I'm a bit disappointed.
15:35The eggs were rotten.
15:36Maybe we just got unlucky with the eggs.
15:38Definitely.
15:40The injection hob's too small.
15:42I could end with four.
15:43What I'll do, I'll do my toast and then I'll...
15:45You have your food.
15:46I'll go to home and then I'll wait, OK?
15:47Oh, sorry, Liz.
15:48I don't like eating on my own.
15:50Cooking breakfast this morning was a very confined space.
15:53It was only a kitchen for one person to cook.
15:56You had to eat yours.
15:58In shift one and you ate yours in shift two?
16:00Yeah.
16:00With the rest of the food ready, the guests dig in.
16:03Oh, yeah.
16:05Can't beat free-range eggs, can you?
16:07Never.
16:07No, it's a lovely touch.
16:08The bread is probably the best gluten-free bread I've ever had.
16:12It's a cracking breakfast.
16:13Oh.
16:14But it's tomorrow's showdown they're sinking their teeth into.
16:18I'd like to think we could win.
16:19We have a good quality business and a good quality space.
16:23I'm feeling a little bit nervous about payment day.
16:25Obviously, you don't know what people's reaction's going to be to our comments,
16:30and I hope it's taken in the way that it's given, that it's constructive.
16:33It depends, at the end of the day, what is value for money.
16:37I think it's anyone's game.
16:40Breakfast done.
16:41The guests complete their anonymous feedback forms.
16:44How were your hosts at Ted Stone Log Cabins?
16:47Wonderful hosts and beautiful horses, but it's self-checking.
16:50And we prefer a personal welcome.
16:53Nine.
16:53Nine.
16:54How clean was Ted Stone Log Cabins?
16:57We'll just put faultless.
16:58Yep.
16:59Ten.
17:00Ten.
17:01Annoyingly super clean.
17:03There was minor dust.
17:05A solid nine.
17:06How were the facilities?
17:08Lovely and bespoke woodwork.
17:10I could say the kitchens of good quality.
17:12But impractical.
17:13Impractical, that's what you want to do, yeah.
17:16And also, shame, unfinished work in corner of the bathroom.
17:19I think we'd like to score an eight then.
17:21When you first walk through the door here, the attention to detail is incredible.
17:26It is attached to the riding school, which is a massive draw for me to come with my family.
17:31And these cabins are not set up for the family environment.
17:34They're set for couples.
17:34Facilities lend themselves to a family stay.
17:37So what should I give them?
17:38Nine.
17:39Now then, Alice, how did you sleep?
17:41Very comfortable bed.
17:42I had a lovely night's sleep.
17:44I would rate it at ten.
17:46Incredibly comfortable bed, but the itchy bedding, that's a bit of an issue.
17:51I would give a nine.
17:52Yep.
17:53How was breakfast?
17:54So the kitchen itself is very well stocked.
17:57Eggs provided were off.
18:00And the bread had its best before date crossed off.
18:03A six for me for breakfast.
18:05Only two hobs and cooker and eight in two sittings.
18:08Baking trays were dirty stained.
18:10Needed as replacing.
18:11I would definitely score this on a six.
18:13Final big question.
18:15Would you stay here again?
18:16Yeah.
18:17No, I'd stay again.
18:18Yeah.
18:18I wouldn't be able to come here with my family.
18:20For me, it's a no.
18:21And it's a no from me too.
18:22After weighing it up, I definitely think it's a no.
18:29Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:32Agreed?
18:33Agreed.
18:33The cash will be kept secret until the end of the competition.
18:37But for now, Sue and Roger can see what comes out of the woodwork at Tedstone Log Cabins.
18:43OK, let's see what they think.
18:45Here we go.
18:46How were your hosts at Tedstone Log Cabins?
18:49Nine.
18:50Very happy with that.
18:51Wonderful hosts and beautiful horses.
18:54That's nice to know.
18:55Yeah.
18:56We prefer a personal welcome.
18:58Well, we have to make it work with all our other businesses.
19:00How clean was Tedstone Log Cabins?
19:04And nine.
19:06Annoyingly super clean.
19:09Sorry to be annoying.
19:12Minor dust.
19:13How did you miss that?
19:14Well, I'm happy with that's all they found.
19:16How was your breakfast?
19:18Six.
19:19Oh, that's a bit concerning.
19:20Well-stocked kitchen overall.
19:22That's good news.
19:23Yeah, that's good.
19:24Eggs provided were off.
19:25They shouldn't be off because they're very fresh from our own hens.
19:29Yeah.
19:29Best before date on bread crossed out.
19:32I get it from the bakery and I put it in the freezer.
19:36So, obviously, if I'd left the old date, it would appear to be out of date.
19:41I think they possibly will stay again.
19:44Yes!
19:45Yeah, that's good.
19:46They would.
19:46I'm really pleased with that.
19:48Off to a good start.
19:49Let's see how the next one's Marcus.
19:51How clean was Tedstone Log Cabins?
19:55A ten.
19:56Well, that's brilliant.
19:57Faultless.
19:58I am absolutely delighted with that.
20:00How were the facilities?
20:02Nine.
20:03Nine.
20:03That's good.
20:04Another good high school.
20:05Attention to detail.
20:07Incredible.
20:08I have spent a lot of time, many hours, to get it just so it's just right.
20:13Facilities lend themselves to family stay.
20:17So, I think this is Laura and Claudia.
20:20We've made the decision to just stick to couples.
20:22So, it's really quiet and it's a romantic stay, we feel.
20:27How did you sleep?
20:29A nine.
20:30Happy with that?
20:31Comfy bed.
20:32Happy with that.
20:32Yeah, I'm really pleased with that.
20:34Itchy bedding.
20:36Never had anybody say that before, but maybe that's something we need to look at.
20:40Do you think they'll want to stay again?
20:42With those schools, I think they will.
20:45No!
20:47Oh, that's going to be interesting on payment day.
20:52And let's see what's installed next.
20:55How were your facilities?
20:57It's called an eight.
20:58Okay.
20:59Lovely and bespoke woodwork.
21:01That's what it is, isn't it?
21:02Yeah, absolutely.
21:03Kitchen, good quality, but impractical.
21:07We've certainly not had a comment like that before, have we?
21:10No, we haven't.
21:11Shame, unfinished work in corner of bathroom.
21:15It is finished, but we couldn't finish it any other way.
21:18How did you sleep?
21:20Ten.
21:20That's good.
21:21That's brilliant.
21:22Very comfortable bed and had a lovely night's sleep.
21:27Good.
21:27All you can ask for.
21:28How was breakfast?
21:30A six.
21:31A bit disappointing.
21:32Only two hobs on cooker and eight in two sitting.
21:37I definitely think the amount of stuff that we've provided is enough to cook a decent breakfast easily.
21:42Baking trays, dirty, stained, needed replacing.
21:46They are clean.
21:47I do think they've been a bit nitpicky there.
21:49Here we go.
21:52Would you stay here again?
21:53No.
21:54No.
21:54No.
21:54No.
21:54No.
21:55Interesting.
21:58So based on what they've said, I don't think that answer at all is justified.
22:02Some of the scores are being a bit low and they'd be interesting on payment day to fight them out.
22:08Next time the hosts face the final showdown.
22:14Welcome to the Lions then.
22:16As bills are paid.
22:17Because it was expensive for two people.
22:20I just think you judge quite hard.
22:23Scores are settled.
22:24Literally.
22:24You've got resident spiders.
22:27And a winner announced.
22:28The winner is...
22:30Am I annoyed?
22:31A thousand percent.
22:32And then...
