00:00I've just found a massive hair in the bed.
00:05Four sets of holiday hosts...
00:07Have a safe journey.
00:08Thank you very much.
00:10...have stayed at each other's places.
00:13Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:16I don't think it's insulting, Mark.
00:18You didn't have to do that.
00:20And the payments revealed...
00:22I think that's quite a heavy reduction in price.
00:25With four in a bed...
00:27If there is anything else you need, just ask.
00:31But why would I have to ask for that?
00:33Did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:35I think it could possibly have cost us the competition.
00:45It's the final day of the competition...
00:47...to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:50The rival hosts are assembling one last time...
00:53...to find out what they've been paid and settle some scores.
00:57Let's get ready to rumble.
01:00And first up, it's Andrew Sinclair-Smith...
01:02...and Diane Coates-Sinclair.
01:05Shall we go for it, then?
01:06Yes, we'll find out a few answers.
01:10When guests flocked to the shepherd's huts...
01:12...at Burnswood Gluteak Escapes in Bondley, Devon...
01:16Hello.
01:16Hello, welcome.
01:18...Mark and Matt fell for the furnishings.
01:21They're the cushions.
01:22They're lovely, aren't they?
01:23Really nice.
01:24Alicia was happy with the housework.
01:27Yeah, everything looks really clean.
01:29And Stephen and Mubi were delighted by the decor.
01:32I love the colouring.
01:33Yeah, they went together really well.
01:36But on closer inspection...
01:37I found this dirty mark on the inside of the duvet cover.
01:42Alicia spotted some missteps.
01:44I would like the stones to be a little bit more exposed...
01:48...so that I wouldn't get my feet all wet.
01:51By evening, Mark was basking in the bath.
01:54This is the perfect way to end a pretty long day.
01:59Though come morning, some guests weren't showering the place with praise.
02:04The dial's ultra-sensitive.
02:06One millimetre made it scalding hot.
02:09The other way, freezing cold.
02:10The shower's a bit fun and games.
02:13It's a little bit peekaboo going between hot and cold.
02:16However, the self-catering breakfast didn't hamper anyone's enjoyment.
02:21Morning.
02:22Morning.
02:22We've got your breakfast for you.
02:24Excellent.
02:24Thank you very much.
02:26It is very cute, kitchen, isn't it?
02:27Yeah, very much so.
02:28It has everything you will need.
02:30Those sausages are lovely.
02:31For a luxurious shepherd's hut and a breakfast like this, I think it's great value.
02:36But at feedback, it was Alicia's facility, Mark.
02:39I'm going to score them a seven.
02:42That left the hosts in hot water.
02:45That's not so good.
02:46Not so great.
02:46Not so good at all.
02:47Very mean, actually.
02:49And now at the table, Andrew and Diane want to know more about one particular score.
02:55Alicia, you gave us a seven for facilities, which I thought was a bit low.
02:59The stepping stones needed tidying up so you don't get your feet wet walking to the bath.
03:04The slippers were saturated by the time I got back into the shepherd's hut.
03:09The problem is our shepherd's huts are in a field, so it's quite difficult to keep control of nature.
03:17You could cut back when you can.
03:19Yeah, yeah.
03:20No, I get that.
03:21The shower went from scalding hot to cold.
03:24Imagine standing in the shower and you are scalded on your chest.
03:27So it literally went from that to freezing cold in seconds.
03:32Have you showered there?
03:34Yeah, we have showered there.
03:35Mm.
03:35Having a gas heater, it takes a long time for the water to actually come through hot, up to a minute, and the shower evens itself out over that time, and then a slight adjustment makes it work perfectly.
03:48No matter how I turned the dial, it made no difference.
03:52We can only apologise to you for that.
03:54I had the same problem.
03:55Really?
03:56Yeah.
03:57We'll have to call the plumbers in, I think, to get that checked.
03:59Mm.
04:01We've never had that comment before.
04:04No.
04:04So I think the showers have just gone wrong on the Shepherds' Huts.
04:09It's just bad luck.
04:11Andrew and Diane can now find out how much they've been paid, starting with Mark and Matt, and Mark's stay priced at £173, including optional breakfast.
04:21£170, £172, £173.
04:26That's payment in full.
04:28Lovely accommodation, great value for money.
04:31Thank you, we really appreciate it.
04:32Next, it's Stephen and Mubi's stay, which cost £188, including the breakfast charge.
04:41180, 185, 87.
04:45It's £188 paid in full.
04:47Thank you very much.
04:49Had everything we needed.
04:50It was a perfect stay.
04:53So glad to hear it.
04:54Finally, it's Alicia's stay, which came to £173, including breakfast.
04:59£120, 140, 145, 6, 7, 8, £148.
05:09That's an underpayment of £25.
05:12Attention to detail, just not quite there, and bad shower.
05:18I think that's quite a heavy reduction in price for that.
05:22I couldn't actually get the soap out of my hair.
05:25Well, that's a very steep underpayment for the inconvenience.
05:29For me, it was a big deal.
05:31On this occasion, we will accept the payment.
05:35Alicia's underpayment was way over the top.
05:38I thought it was really harsh.
05:40I think it could possibly have cost us the competition.
05:42I don't give my hard-earned money away
05:46for something as important as a decent shower.
05:51With Ashby's accommodation and the dog both paying on the nose
05:55and Bosom B&B underpaying by £25,
05:59Burnswood Boutique Escapes finishes with a final bill average of 95%.
06:03Next to face the feedback are Mubi Price and Stephen Ferguson.
06:09Right, let's see if they're going to be bedding down after this.
06:13When the guests arrived at Ashby's accommodation in Portsmouth, Hampshire...
06:17Hi there, how you doing?
06:18Welcome to Ashby's accommodation.
06:20..everyone was initially awestruck.
06:23Wow, this is very bright.
06:25It's a good-sized room, big bed, very fancy.
06:29It's genuine marble, darling, and it's absolutely spotless.
06:33Very glamorous, isn't it?
06:35But when the guests delved deeper...
06:37This door's got paint all over the glass, loads of it.
06:40..not everything dazzled.
06:43They haven't got anything to put your toiletries on.
06:46No.
06:47Come evening, all adored the amenities.
06:50This is the best bit of it, isn't it?
06:52I could stay in here all day.
06:54This is a lovely way to end the day, darling.
06:56It's perfect, isn't it?
06:58But by morning, Andrew and Diane were feeling disconnected.
07:02The screws are all coming loose.
07:04That would explain why I couldn't open and close the door.
07:07Let's see what happens.
07:10Meaning faultless feedback wasn't secured.
07:13There were a couple of functional issues.
07:16No shelf for toiletries in shower, bathroom door top hinged loose.
07:21But on one issue, the hosts weren't left in a tight spot.
07:25Would you stay here again?
07:27Got to be a yes.
07:28Definitely a yes.
07:29It's a yes.
07:31Yes.
07:32Yes.
07:33Oh, that's fantastic news.
07:39Now face to face, Stephen and Mubi want to fathom
07:42Andrew and Diane's facilities feedback.
07:45How were the facilities at Ashby's and we've scored an eight?
07:48Disappointed a little bit.
07:49So, overall great facilities,
07:51but no shelf for the toiletries in the shower.
07:54You have to keep bending down to pick things up off the floor.
07:57I prefer the built-in ones like you guys did have.
08:01I try to keep it sleek as possible, but I do get your point.
08:05Just to have a little corner rack in the shower would make such a difference.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Bathroom door hinged loose.
08:13I had to sort of heave it up and lift it to close it.
08:16We have maintenance guys in, but it's our job to check it.
08:21It's only when you come to close the door that you realise
08:24that it's actually about five millimetres over the door frame.
08:29You can't close it.
08:30We missed.
08:31I'm sorry about that.
08:34Stephen and Mubi can now count their cash,
08:37beginning with Alicia's stay, priced at £155.
08:42£140, £150 and £155, full payment.
08:47We really appreciate that, with payment in full, thank you.
08:50My pleasure.
08:50I had a lovely time.
08:53Next, it's Mark and Matt, and Mark's £155 room.
08:59130, 150, £155, full payment.
09:05Great room.
09:06We couldn't fault it.
09:07The games room was my dream.
09:10It was brilliant.
09:11Thank you very much.
09:12Finally, it's Andrew and Diane's stay, costing £205.
09:16£160, 180, £200 and £205.
09:24Full payment.
09:24Thank you so much.
09:25Despite a few facility issues, we felt it was brilliant value for money, so thank you very much.
09:30The sauna and the wellbeing facilities, just fantastic.
09:34We were in the wellness spa side of your business.
09:37What Mark and Matt loved, it's the last place I would go.
09:42So I just think that's so clever, because you're appealing to everybody.
09:46Fun and wellness are the two things that we think everybody enjoys.
09:49So it's great to hear that it hit the mark.
09:53We've received full payments.
09:54It's three very different sets of people, and that's great.
09:58If we appeal to everybody, we've got to be delighted about that.
10:01Yeah, we are really happy.
10:03As Burnswood Boutique escapes, Bosom B&B and the dog all paid in full,
10:09Ashby's accommodation finishes with a final bill average of 100%.
10:13With half the payments in, two sets of hosts are still to go head-to-head with their critics.
10:22We feel we have some very harsh feedback to face up to,
10:26and probably a couple of questions to have answered.
10:37It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
10:41Two sets of hosts have already discovered what they've been paid.
10:45Next up is Alicia Gibson.
10:47Let's see what's in store for me.
10:51When guests arrived at Bosom B&B in Bosom, West Sussex...
10:56Hello. Hello. Welcome.
10:59Some loved the home comforts.
11:02Nice and bright room.
11:03Yeah, it's very pretty.
11:05Oh, it's nice and comfy.
11:07But Andrew and Diane didn't share the host's lofty ambitions.
11:13I have a feeling right now of being in a tent.
11:16Fitted an awful lot into a very small space.
11:18Into a very small space. Tiny.
11:21And soon, Stephen and Mubi were also throwing some shade.
11:25It is a bit plain.
11:27I think you do one wall as a feature.
11:29These nails hanging out, you can catch yourself on there.
11:32Everyone considered the morning meal a masterpiece.
11:36Eggs perfect.
11:37Whoa, it is.
11:38Oh, yes.
11:39That is incredible.
11:41But at feedback, it was facility floors that brought down scores.
11:45Lots of little snags could add colour and texture to the rooms
11:49to make it even more homely.
11:51The score for facilities...
11:53Eight.
11:54Main issues, cramped space, especially bathroom.
11:57Probably a seven.
11:59Hmm.
12:00I think that the facilities are a ten.
12:03Now, back at the table,
12:05Alicia wants to know more about what left one pair saw.
12:09How are the facilities?
12:11It's called me a seven.
12:12Cramped space, especially bathroom.
12:15The bathroom, I thought, was a brilliant piece of design,
12:17but it's not really functional.
12:19I was crouching all the time.
12:21So, not making excuses, but the builder made a mistake.
12:25And we lost a foot.
12:27Wow.
12:28So, I've kind of had to make the most of the space that I've got.
12:33It's difficult to manoeuvre yourself in and out.
12:36You can walk around the room.
12:38It was just difficult.
12:39You can still wash yourself, you can still shower.
12:42Leaning over the sink, you bump your head.
12:45I'm five foot ten, I can walk around the room.
12:47So, I still don't understand it, to be honest.
12:49But it's the money that matters,
12:52and Alicia can now discover what everyone's paid,
12:55starting with Mark and Matt,
12:56and Mark's room, priced at £95.
13:00£70.95.
13:04That's a full payment.
13:05Thank you very much.
13:06Great value stay.
13:08With an exceptional breakfast,
13:10we wouldn't have paid anything else.
13:12That means a lot.
13:14Next, it's Andrew and Diane's stay,
13:16costing £110.
13:17£10.
13:20£80, £100, £102, £104,
13:23£106, £107, £50.
13:26So, that's an underpayment of £2.50.
13:29Is £2.50 going to buy you half a glass of wine?
13:33No, it's not.
13:34It was a token underpayment,
13:36just for our cramped necks.
13:38I think if you're going to make a statement,
13:40you might have made it bigger.
13:41We felt we were being kind and fair,
13:44just to make a small point.
13:47If you're happy with that, I'm happy with that.
13:49Thank you very much.
13:51Diane and Andrew's underpayment of £2.50 was absolutely pity.
13:56It was a token gesture,
13:57and it didn't need a sarcastic comment.
13:59Whatever you do with Alicia,
14:01you can't win.
14:02Finally, it's Stephen and Mubi's £115 room.
14:07£60, £80, £100 and £110.
14:11So, that's an underpayment of £5.
14:14Do you want to explain that to me, please?
14:16Just generally things like very minor facilities issues.
14:20I don't think I'm overpriced,
14:22particularly with the breakfast that you received,
14:25but on this occasion, I will accept the payment.
14:29To take money off because of issues that Stephen and Mubi raised,
14:34I felt was petty.
14:36With the dog paying in full,
14:39Burnswood Boutique Escapes withholding £2.50
14:42and Ashby's accommodation knocking off £5,
14:45Bosom B&B finishes with a final bill average of 98%.
14:50The last contenders vying for this week's title
14:55are Mark Bridgen and Matt Warren.
14:58Is it the dog's danglies or a dog's dinner?
15:00Let's find out.
15:04When the guests checked into the dog at Wingham,
15:06Wingham Kent...
15:08Good morning.
15:09Good morning.
15:10..tails were wagging.
15:12Very clean.
15:14Ironing board and an iron quality robe.
15:17It feels really soft and comfortable.
15:20Yes, Danny.
15:21But upon closer inspection, Alicia was barking mad.
15:25I am restricted to two pillows, one towel and one hand towel.
15:30I'm paying for double occupancy, so I think that's unacceptable.
15:35Andrew and Diane didn't think the washroom was best in show.
15:39I was expecting a bigger bathroom.
15:41For £380 a night.
15:43And Stephen and Mubi found some areas a little rough.
15:47Big stain.
15:47If you look at by the sink, it is the lime scale.
15:52There's paint on the windows.
15:54In a £340 room, it has to be perfect.
15:58But at feedback, it was one of Alicia's marks...
16:01I'm going to score them a four.
16:04..that had the hosts growling.
16:07A four?
16:08That's terrible.
16:09It's not good at all.
16:10Now, all together, Mark and Matt want to chew into Alicia's facility complaints.
16:16How were the facilities?
16:18We scored a four, which we are absolutely devastated about.
16:23Not receive the double occupancy facilities, which is unacceptable.
16:28When I walked into the room, I could have walked out of the room.
16:32The bed was dressed for a child with two pillows, one towel and one hand towel.
16:39So that was the big deal-breaker for me.
16:43I'm sorry you felt like that, obviously.
16:44We always set rooms to the number of guests in it.
16:47You sold it to me as a double occupancy.
16:51If you're staying one night and you're on your own,
16:54in my opinion, you're more than comfortable with what we give you.
16:56Comfortable doesn't come into it.
16:58If you're selling the room with a single occupancy at a single rate,
17:02then that's reflective in the price.
17:04As we said on Welcoming You,
17:07if there is anything else you need, just ask.
17:11But why would I have to ask for that?
17:12Why are you penalising me when I'm still paying the full rate?
17:17Can I just ask why that is so offensive to you?
17:21I don't think I need to answer that, Diane.
17:23I think I've given Mark my reasons.
17:26I am sorry.
17:27OK, well, hopefully you won't make that mistake again.
17:30We'll always set the room for the occupancy.
17:34Alicia, she's a difficult lady to please.
17:38We made it crystal clear that if she needed anything else to just ask.
17:42Mark and Matt envisage a single occupancy to only have one of everything.
17:48I've never been to another hotel that's done that,
17:51so I find that strange.
17:52Mark and Matt can now cash up,
17:55starting with Andrew and Diane's room,
17:57which came to £380, including breakfast.
18:00£320, £340, £350, £355.
18:09That is an underpayment of £25.
18:12Please explain.
18:14We'd expect everything to be perfect.
18:16At that price point.
18:17At that price point.
18:18I am disappointed.
18:19An underpayment is a surprise.
18:21For a bathroom issues and one or two other things,
18:24we felt that it wasn't value for money from our point of view.
18:27I accept your payment. Thank you.
18:30We stand by all of our pricing.
18:32We're disappointed, to sum it up.
18:34Next, it's Stephen and Mubi,
18:36and their room priced at £340.
18:41£220, £240, £250.
18:44That's an underpayment of £90.
18:47I look forward to hearing why.
18:49We felt that that was the price we'd be happy to pay.
18:53I do feel £90 is quite heavy.
18:55When you look at the issues with cleanliness
18:58and the other just quality issues,
19:00I think the fundamental challenge that we had
19:02was about value for money.
19:04Day in, day out, we have, you know,
19:06the most wonderful and happy customers.
19:08We will not be restructuring the pricing.
19:11Overall, it's just about that quality versus the price point.
19:14Disappointed at such a large underpayment,
19:17as frustrating as it is,
19:18we're not going to get into a fight about it.
19:20If they came to reception with those issues,
19:23we would have comped something as an apology,
19:26but it wouldn't be £90,
19:28which I felt was harsh.
19:31Finally, it's Alicia's £260 room.
19:36£40, £60, £80, £100.
19:40That is an underpayment of £160, Alicia.
19:44With a double occupancy price
19:46and receiving everything for a single occupant,
19:50I feel that that is justified.
19:53You didn't have to make such an insulting payment.
19:57I don't think it's insulting, Mark.
19:59You didn't have to do that.
20:00I think you need to look at it from what you're advertising.
20:03Whatever the scenario, fairly disappointed and there we go.
20:06I'm sure you are.
20:07I think it's quite an insulting payment,
20:09but principals don't pay the bills,
20:12so on this occasion we'll have to accept it.
20:15Alicia has got a real bee in her bonnet
20:17around the occupancy and pricing.
20:20But it didn't warrant that huge underpayment.
20:22I think that was very harsh,
20:24and it was a real shock to us.
20:25The room they gave me
20:27should have been set up for double occupancy
20:29to be in a line with their rate.
20:32With Burnswood Boutique Escapes underpaying by £25,
20:37Ashby's accommodation knocking off £90
20:39and Bosom B&B withholding £160,
20:43the dog finishes with a final bill average of 68%.
20:47With all the payments in,
20:52it's down to Alicia to reveal the results.
20:55So we've come to the end of the competition.
20:58In fourth place,
20:59we have the dog.
21:07We came fourth,
21:09which we're, you know,
21:11to some degree we're disappointed about,
21:13but apart from the position,
21:15we've achieved all that we wanted to achieve.
21:17In third place,
21:18we have...
21:20Burnswood Boutique Escapes.
21:24Well done.
21:24I'm really happy that we took part.
21:30Disappointed that we were scuppered.
21:32But other than that,
