00:00Oh, look at those guns. That'll be our slot on payment day.
00:04Four sets of holiday hosts...
00:07Hope you had a great stay.
00:08Yeah, it's been lovely, thank you.
00:09...have stayed at each other's places.
00:12Today, with all the visits over, scores are settled.
00:15So you actually thought our breakfast was six?
00:17Six.
00:17Yeah.
00:18And the payments are revealed.
00:20Can you explain?
00:21I think it was really down to the basic facilities. There were things missing.
00:24With four in a bed...
00:26We just didn't see the value for two people.
00:27Did anyone get a good night's sleep?
00:30He was upset. I was distraught.
00:38It's the final day of the competition to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
00:43The rival hosts are assembling one last time...
00:46...to find out what they've been paid...
00:48...and settle some scores.
00:50So who's ready to get some answers then?
00:52Kicking off proceedings is Naim Payman...
00:54...whose wife Sarah is unable to attend today.
00:57So guys, time to get some clarification.
01:00When they welcomed their rivals to the Lovelady Shield Hotel in Alston, Cumbria...
01:06Hello! Welcome to Lovelady.
01:08...Chris soaked it all in.
01:10Wow, what a view. That's incredible.
01:12Wow, lovely bathroom.
01:16Perfect length bath for me.
01:18And Neil and Jack found it a breath of fresh air.
01:21Well, it's very light and airy. I like it.
01:23I think we've even got a valley view.
01:25Yeah.
01:25Have a look underneath what's underneath here.
01:27Well, it's nice and clean.
01:28Like brand new to me then.
01:30But when Jane and Phil arrived...
01:32Oh, wow.
01:33What a beautiful room.
01:35It is.
01:35It was a case of out with the old...
01:37Everything is clean.
01:39Yeah.
01:39I just think some of the furniture and decor just needs a little bit of upgrading.
01:45The beading's missing off the front there.
01:48Same with the sash window, really. There's been a repair on that.
01:51Which, come feedback...
01:52How were the facilities at Lovelady Shield?
01:55...made a dent in the scores.
01:57I'm going to have to go for a six.
01:59Six.
01:59Oh, that's painful.
02:01There's a few things we need to find out on payment day.
02:04Yeah.
02:05Now face to face, Naeem has a score to settle.
02:08So, Jane and Phil, on facilities, they gave us a six.
02:12Bedroom needs finishing.
02:14What exactly needed finishing?
02:15The furniture wasn't up to much.
02:17There was a side dresser that some of the beading was missing off it.
02:20The sash window had been repaired, but not sanded down and painted.
02:24It just needed a little bit more attention to detail.
02:28It is an old building.
02:29For us, it's been mostly a case of trying to get the place open.
02:32There was so much wrong with that place.
02:34You know, at least you didn't have a leak through your roof.
02:36You had your hot water.
02:37The heating was working.
02:38It just looked a little bit tired.
02:40What we're charging is based on what we have to offer at the moment.
02:44If in the future we do a full upgrade of the place,
02:46then pricing would probably double or triple.
02:48I think Love Lady was very tired, wasn't it?
02:51There were quite a lot of issues.
02:53For the money we're charging, the feedback was a bit harsh.
02:56Decor debated.
02:57Naeem can now find out how much he's been paid,
03:00starting with Neil and Jack and Neil's room at £126.
03:04£100, £120, £125, £126.
03:10That's full payment.
03:11Thank you so much, gents.
03:12No problem.
03:12I thought it was excellent value.
03:14Yeah.
03:15Next, it's Chris's room, also costing £126.
03:20£125, £126.
03:22Full payment from you as well, Chris.
03:24Couldn't have asked for more, really.
03:26Hope we'll have you back.
03:27Finally, it's Jane and Phil's room, which cost £134.10.
03:34130?
03:35134 and 10p.
03:38Goodness me.
03:39Full payment.
03:40Thank you, guys.
03:41It was deserved, Naeem.
03:42There was just a few things that wanted doing.
03:45That was all.
03:46It was great value for money.
03:47Very good value for money.
03:48Yeah.
03:48Jane and Phil had given some relatively poor feedback,
03:52so I was worried we'd get massively underpaid,
03:54but it went well.
03:56With the Rybeck Hotel,
03:58Dale to Swale glamping
03:59and Ashbourne Holidays all paying in full,
04:03the Lovelady Shield finishes with a final bill average of 100%.
04:07Next to face the feedback are colleagues Neil Barnes and Jack Waring.
04:12OK, I'm really excited about this.
04:15Let's go.
04:16When they opened the doors to the Rybeck Hotel
04:19in Bowness on Windermere in the Lake District...
04:22Hi.
04:23Hello.
04:23Hello.
04:24Welcome to the Rybeck Hotel, Windermere.
04:26Some of the guests lapped it up.
04:28Oh, wow.
04:29Look at that for a view.
04:30It's a beautiful view, isn't it?
04:32Stunning.
04:33Good-sized room, like that, and first impressions.
04:36Really pleased with it.
04:37But when Naeem and Sarah arrived...
04:39Oh, wow.
04:40Wow.
04:41They weren't sweet enough...
04:43For the price that we're paying,
04:45I'd expect something slightly larger, to be honest,
04:48maybe an additional room, some sort of a suite.
04:50And the pair dissed the decor.
04:52There's paint on this clothes hanger.
04:55I mean, that's not a great finish,
04:56and you can see a proper wave in the wall there.
04:59The coving up here, there's quite a bit of a mismatch.
05:02On closer inspection, Chris aired his views.
05:05It is a lovely view, lovely garden,
05:07but I was hoping for a lakeside view.
05:09And he felt the squeeze in the bathroom.
05:11I can just fit in this one.
05:13Just a little more space would be preferable.
05:15Come morning, the bathrooms took even more of a bashing.
05:19That glass was completely transparent.
05:22I'd expect some level of frosting to give privacy.
05:24And the shower this morning was a bit disappointing as well.
05:27I had to almost stand on the slope
05:30to be able to get enough water on me.
05:32It just didn't have enough pressure, I guess.
05:34Yeah.
05:34I did find it a little bit awkward getting into the shower
05:37because of the position of the toilet.
05:39Yeah.
05:39And the breakfast got a grilling.
05:42How about your sausages?
05:43To be honest, I like mine a bit firmer.
05:45What do you make of these beans?
05:46Do you think they were homemade or were they tinned?
05:48I don't think they were homemade.
05:50But at feedback...
05:51How were the facilities?
05:53It was Naeem and Sarah's facilities score...
05:56I think let's go with a six.
05:57..that bothered the boys.
05:58A six.
06:00I think we need some clarification
06:02and I'd like to see that on payment day.
06:05Now, all together,
06:06Neil and Jack soak up Naeem's comments about the bathroom.
06:10Facilities, Naeem, you give us a six.
06:13OK.
06:14Shower pressure and layout disappointing.
06:16Yeah, so the shower pressure was slightly on the low side
06:20and in terms of the layout,
06:22particularly because the pressure was low,
06:23I sort of had to stand on the slope
06:25to get under the water actually falling on me.
06:29Yes, you had to get over the toilet to get into the bath
06:31because the shower screen wouldn't open.
06:33Well, we haven't actually done anything
06:35with the bathrooms in them rooms.
06:36I don't think the bathrooms were that bad,
06:38but we have done some of the other bathrooms.
06:39I think Chris had a new one.
06:41I just found it a little bit tight in the shower.
06:43It is what the room is, I'm afraid.
06:45That's the problem.
06:45And it is a very tight shower.
06:47It's probably the smallest you can get.
06:49OK, better planning, bathroom frosting.
06:52Naeem.
06:52So the window in the bathroom obviously had a great view,
06:55but people outside could look in fairly easily.
06:58So unless you put the blind down...
07:00Yeah.
07:01..it was slightly difficult to use the bathroom
07:03because both the toilet and the shower were in straight view.
07:06It's two ways of looking at this.
07:07Another person would say,
07:09I don't have the view from my bath out the window.
07:12You'd put the blind down if you wanted to have a shower.
07:15You'd put the blind up if you wanted the view, wouldn't you?
07:17That would be my view.
07:19I think it was a bit brutal on the bathroom.
07:22I mean, we've not refitted the bathrooms.
07:24Naeem, definitely a picky sort,
07:26so I won't be changing nothing for him.
07:27We've been very frank, very blunt,
07:30but I just say things the way they are.
07:31Next, Neil and Jack want to bite down on their breakfast score.
07:35Yeah, so with breakfast, you give us an eight.
07:38Some ingredients lacked quality and taste.
07:40The sausages were very soft compared to what I like.
07:44Yeah.
07:44And then the beans, sorry to say, but were they thinned?
07:49Because it looked like they'd just been chucked in the microwave.
07:51The beans aren't homemade.
07:52I don't think many people offer homemade beans, do you?
07:56I believe we do, yeah, and I mean, at that price point,
07:59I was sort of expecting to be blown away with the breakfast.
08:01We do offer a good breakfast, we get a lot of feedback,
08:04people returning just for breakfast.
08:05I think an eight is a little bit harsh, really, I think.
08:08Yeah, I mean, I was a six, Sarah was a ten,
08:10so we sort of met halfway at the eight.
08:11So you actually thought our breakfast was a six?
08:13Six?
08:13Yeah.
08:14Does Sarah give it a...
08:15She was on a ten, wasn't she?
08:16Sarah was on a ten, she really liked it.
08:18So, that says it all, doesn't it?
08:19Yeah.
08:19I mean, that says it all.
08:21Some people might like some bits more than others.
08:24I just don't see this disparity, you know what I mean?
08:28It's just...
08:28He was upset, I was distraught.
08:30The pair can now count their cash,
08:33starting with Phil and Jane's room, costing £258.
08:38£220, £240, £250.
08:42OK.
08:43So it's an underpayment of £8.
08:45It was purely down to the bathroom.
08:47Purely down to the bathroom.
08:48Just didn't meet the expectations of that room.
08:50Yeah.
08:50And that was all.
08:52I'll give it to Jane and Phil.
08:55Their payment was justifiable.
08:58Next, it's Chris's room at £183.
09:03£140, £160, £170, Jack.
09:06So, Chris, that's an underpayment of £13.
09:09The struggle space in the shower,
09:11and I would have preferred a room with a view of the lake.
09:14£170, I'll be honest,
09:15you wouldn't really get a lake view in Windermere for that.
09:18But, yeah, we'll take your comments on board, so thank you.
09:20The room Chris was allocated.
09:22It was a nice room.
09:23It was a nice room.
09:24We don't have 27 lake views.
09:26Finally, it's Naeem, and his and Sarah's room, priced at £258.
09:32£180, £190, £200.
09:34That was a big underpayment.
09:38Wow.
09:39So that's an underpayment of £58.
09:41Essentially, it's about 20% off,
09:44which we feel reflects some of the issues that we had.
09:47The one other thing is, to be honest, for that price point,
09:49I expected a slightly larger room,
09:51more of a suite, if that makes sense.
09:54Naeem, I've got to say it,
09:55in Windermere, £200.
09:57You're not going to get a real house.
09:58You're not going to get a suite
10:00looking at Lake Windermere for £200.
10:02There's guests, there's guest houses charging £300.
10:06And don't take it personally,
10:07but we just felt for us, that's a lot of money,
10:09and we'd rather spend it elsewhere.
10:11We're both not particularly happy with this payment,
10:13but on this occasion, we'll accept it.
10:15Naeem was expecting a suite for £250.
10:19He must be deluded.
10:21With Ashbourne Holidays knocking off £8,
10:24Dale Tusswale Glamping holding back £13,
10:27and the Lovelady Shield deducting £58,
10:31the Ryback Hotel finishes with a final bill average of 89%.
10:36With half the payments in,
10:38Dale Tusswale Glamping is next to face the critics.
10:42Tension's rising, my feedback's next,
10:44and I'm going to be fighting my corner.
10:51It's the final day of the competition
10:54to be named Best Value Place of the Week.
10:56Two sets of hosts have already found out
10:58where they've been paid.
11:00Next up is Chris Long.
11:02Right, guys, I want some answers from you,
11:04and they'd better be good.
11:06When the guests swept up to Dale Tusswale Glamping
11:10in Richmond, North Yorkshire...
11:11Hi, Chris.
11:12Welcome to Dale Tusswale Glamping.
11:14First impressions were impressive.
11:16Wow.
11:17Oh, wow.
11:18This is so cool.
11:20Oh, this is nice.
11:20It's nice and light, anyway, yeah.
11:22Well, it's quite spacious.
11:24Yeah.
11:25The living area looks clean, doesn't it?
11:27But on closer inspection,
11:29Naeem and Sarah came clean.
11:31Yeah, that's definitely not been cleaned.
11:33Not been cleaned.
11:35Have a look at the loo.
11:36Some here, over there.
11:38Oh, yeah.
11:39And it was the lack of electric
11:40that made everyone lose their spark.
11:42Oh, fab.
11:43Oh, at least some milk.
11:44But that means we obviously haven't got a fridge.
11:47No electric.
11:48Yeah.
11:49Solar hub.
11:50I don't know if we'll be able to charge our phone in that.
11:52And I'm not sure how I'm going to get my laptop plugs in.
11:55For me, not having mains power is a bit of an issue, isn't it?
11:58It is totally.
11:59Come bedtime, Naeem and Sarah lost their chill.
12:03Is there any warmer in the bedroom yet?
12:05Yeah, it's a little bit warmer.
12:06I've got four hot water bottles.
12:09In the morning, Jane and Phil were restless.
12:12How did you sleep last night?
12:13Not very well.
12:14That noise.
12:15I think it is just the canvas.
12:17Plus the road noise as well.
12:19And at breakfast, they weren't tooled up.
12:22No tongs, is there?
12:23No.
12:24While for Naeem and Sarah, the price left a sour taste.
12:28For me, 200 quid.
12:29I mean, for two people, it's just completely out of the question.
12:32But at feedback...
12:33How were the facilities?
12:35It was the lack of power...
12:36There was no electricity.
12:37No electricity.
12:38..that left the host charged up.
12:40Quite clearly, we had a couple of guests
12:41who just kept on banging on about electricity.
12:43We don't have electricity, so...
12:45Now round the table, Chris is ready for some power play.
12:50Facilities, Naeem, you've given me four.
12:52And in your comments, you've put no electricity.
12:55I appreciate what you're trying to do
12:57and trying to get people a reset from technology.
12:59But to me, that's a big problem.
13:01I need to be online pretty much 24-7 whenever I'm awake.
13:04And even keeping the phone charged was a struggle.
13:06This is what my glamping site is about.
13:09We don't provide that.
13:10We don't say we provide it.
13:12I can't get away from the electricity with it.
13:14I feel there's so much benefits to have electricity there.
13:17For me, it does kind of take away from glamping for me
13:19because you've not got the luxuries available to you,
13:21like electricity and, you know...
13:24So you wouldn't class it as glamping?
13:26I wouldn't, no.
13:27What you classed as luxury glamping to us
13:30was, I think, was probably posh camping.
13:32So for me, glamping is great location,
13:35peaceful, quiet, with nature,
13:37with things inside which makes things more comfortable.
13:39So you've got the heating, you've got the log burner.
13:42Fully fitted kitchen.
13:42So when people come on holiday with me,
13:44they just literally need to bring themselves
13:45with a little bit of food and drink.
13:47You've got all the expensive, them large safari tents.
13:50How's it detrimental not to have electricity there?
13:53It may not be detrimental,
13:54but it's not something that I've considered.
13:56We are an off-grid site.
13:58There's solar lights, you've got cooking facilities,
14:01you've got charging points,
14:03but we don't do electricity.
14:05Now it's time for Chris to count the cash,
14:08starting with Jane and Phil
14:09and their £200 safari tent.
14:13£160, £170, £175.
14:17£175.
14:18That's a £25 underpayment.
14:20Can you explain?
14:21Yeah, I think it was really down to the basic facilities.
14:24There were things missing.
14:25Sadly, Phil didn't have a very good night's sleep
14:27and the noise from the road.
14:29This time of year, I know that the road sound
14:31is a little bit greater.
14:32Unfortunately, I can't change that,
14:34but thank you for your feedback and I'll accept your payment.
14:37It's my pride and joy.
14:39My heart and soul goes into it.
14:40In this instance, we've fallen short a little bit
14:42in some people's eyes,
14:44but I'll stand up for my establishment to the end.
14:47Next, it's Neil and Jack
14:48and their tent costing £200.
14:52£120, £140, £160.
14:55So that's a £40 underpayment.
14:56I can't get away from the electric, I can't.
14:59It's a basic necessity.
15:00I am disappointed with your underpayment,
15:02but in this instance, I will accept it.
15:04OK, thank you.
15:06We did feel sorry on Chris.
15:08I don't think Chris was particularly happy
15:10on the feedback he received.
15:11But he's electric.
15:13I just can't get over it.
15:14Finally, it's Naeem
15:16and here's Ansara's £200 tent.
15:1920, 40, 60, 80, 90.
15:26That's a bit harsh.
15:28Wow.
15:29That's an underpayment of £110.
15:32You got a lot of explaining.
15:34Yeah, it's just that the facilities
15:35and the cleanliness just weren't quite up to scratch.
15:38It was freezing cold
15:40and we just didn't see the value for two people.
15:43That's very disappointing.
15:44Almost rude, actually.
15:46And I'm quite upset by that.
15:48I mean, I could have provided you more blankets.
15:50You had hot water bottles.
15:52Cleaning the tent takes me two hours per tent.
15:54My tents are very special.
15:56They provide accommodation for up to six people
15:58and it's priced on that.
16:00And I appreciate that it's good value
16:02if you are six people.
16:03It's just, there was only two of us.
16:05For me, the offer of £90 is not enough.
16:10So I'm afraid I won't be accepting that.
16:14So I'll just put it back in there.
16:19And thank you for coming to stay.
16:22You can have it back.
16:25Yeah, I'm sorry.
16:26I do hope that lots of people will continue to come
16:28and will continue to enjoy those days.
16:30All right. Thank you.
16:32I was never going to accept an underpayment of £110.
16:35It's just rude.
16:37With Ashbourne Holidays underpaying by £25,
16:40the Rybeck Hotel withholding £40
16:43and Chris rejecting the Lovelady Shields
16:46underpayment of £110,
16:48Dale Tusswale Glamping finishes
16:50with a final bill average of 56%.
16:53The final pair contending for the title
16:57are couple Jane and Phil DeVille.
16:59Last but not least, let's get on with it.
17:03On arrival at Ashbourne Holidays
17:05in Marston, Montgomery, Derbyshire...
17:07Morning!
17:08Hi there!
17:09The guests thought it was pod perfection.
17:12I love it already.
17:13Gorgeous.
17:14You can feel the warmth.
17:15Yes, lovely.
17:16The level of finish and everything is really amazing.
17:19Really nice.
17:20Wow, this looks absolutely lovely.
17:22Looks like a nice big bed.
17:23Very comfy.
17:24Big look.
17:25Hot tub for two.
17:26Okay.
17:26Oh!
17:27Cute!
17:28And come evening, Neil and Jack made a splash.
17:32How are you finding the hot tub, Neil?
17:33It's raining, but it's quite nice being in the hot tub.
17:36Next morning, Naeem and Sarah didn't cushion the blows.
17:40Pillow quite hard, I found.
17:42Like, my neck is a little bit sore this morning.
17:45My main issue was that clock on the wall
17:48just kept ticking away.
17:50It was really loud all night.
17:51So, when it came to feedback...
17:53Clock too loud.
17:55It was the hosts who were ticked off.
17:58Clock too loud.
17:59I think that's a little bit picky.
18:01I just wanted to be paid what we asked.
18:03What we asked.
18:04Yeah.
18:04Yes.
18:05Before finding out their payments,
18:07there's a comment Jane and Phil have been losing sleep over.
18:11How did you sleep?
18:12Pillows too hard.
18:13Yeah, the pillows were really sort of tall.
18:16So, Sarah woke up and her whole back and neck were aching.
18:21Okay, well, I can only apologise for that,
18:23but we do take great pride in the quality of the products
18:26that we put in there.
18:27So, they are nice and plump and luxurious.
18:31Right.
18:31And clock too loud.
18:35Yeah.
18:35It actually disturbed my sleep quite a bit.
18:38Yeah.
18:39I could hear the ticking throughout.
18:41That's because they've got batteries in, Naheem,
18:42and they do tend to go tick-tock.
18:45Yeah.
18:45One suggestion could be a digital clock, maybe.
18:47People do actually ask for the clocks,
18:50and they do like them,
18:52so they will be staying.
18:54Oh, clocks.
18:56Do you know what?
18:57I'm really not that bothered,
18:59so they will be staying.
19:01Jane and Phil can now count the cash,
19:04starting with Chris and his pod,
19:06which cost £211.50.
19:09£200, £210, £211.50.
19:13Full payment.
19:14Thank you very much, Chris.
19:15Thank you so much, Chris.
19:16It was absolutely faultless.
19:18Would definitely come back again, so...
19:20Well, we look forward to welcoming you back.
19:22Next, it's Naheem,
19:23and his and Sarah's £212.50 pod.
19:28£180, £200, £210, £212.50.
19:34That's a full payment.
19:35Despite the minor issues that we had,
19:37it was an absolutely fantastic stay.
19:40Thank you so much.
19:41We look forward to welcoming you back too.
19:43You can be fair, Naheem.
19:44We try.
19:45I was very concerned that there was going to be
19:48some tactical payments made,
19:50but very relieved to say there weren't.
19:53There's definitely no tactics involved by us.
19:55We decided we were happy to pay in full.
19:57I think it's thoroughly deserved.
19:59I was expecting £100 underpayment off Naheem for that clock.
20:02Finally, it's Neil and Jack,
20:04and Neil's pod priced at £211.50.
20:08£80, £200, £220.
20:13Now, that's an overpayment of £8.50.
20:16Thank you very much.
20:17You've both done an amazing job there.
20:19Thank you very much.
20:19Well worth it.
20:20Thank you so much.
20:21No worries.
20:22Sorry, guys.
20:23I'm just a little bit speechless.
20:26I'm so grateful to you all.
20:27It means so much, doesn't it?
20:30No, I will say, and I've already said it,
20:32but she does put so much into it.
20:34Yes, we can tell.
20:35Yeah.
20:36Congratulations, you both deserve it.
20:38When you got to £200 and then that final £20 went down,
20:43I just, the penny dropped,
20:44and the relief was overwhelming, as you know.
20:48With Dale Tusswale glamping
20:50and the Lovelady Shield both paying in full
20:53and the Rybeck Hotel tipping £8.50,
20:56Ashbourne Holidays finishes where the final bill average
20:59of 101%.
21:01With all the payments in,
21:03it's down to Jack to reveal the results.
21:06OK, then, guys.
21:07So I've got the honour in announcing the results.
21:10So in fourth place,
21:12we have Dale Tusswale glamping.
21:16Well done.
21:17Well done, Chris.
21:18Feeling a little defeated coming fourth,
21:20but it's been brilliant sharing the week
21:22with people who work in the same industry as me,
21:23sharing ideas and best practice.
21:25So next we have, in third place,
21:27we have the Rybeck Hotel.
21:30Woo!
21:31Thank you, guys.
21:34I'm happy with it.
21:35I'm chuffed with it.
21:36I'm not bothered that we didn't win at the end of the day.
21:38Where would we have put that plaque?
21:39We'd been arguing over it.
21:40I'd have put it in my bedroom, Neil.
21:41I know you would have.
21:42So the top spot is between the Lovelady Shield Hotel
21:45and Ashbourne Holidays.
21:47So the winner is...
21:50Ashbourne Holidays.
21:52Well done.
21:53Well done.
21:53Well done.
21:53Well done.
21:54Well done.
21:54Well done.
21:54I'm a little bit shell-shocked, to be honest.
21:59Absolutely amazing.
22:01It has been a thoroughly enjoyable week.
22:03Thoroughly enjoyed it, haven't we?
22:04Yeah.
22:04Yes.
22:04Jane and Phil, if you'd like to step forward
22:06and collect your plaque.
22:10Congratulations.
22:11I'm very glad that we came second.
22:13Jane and Phil definitely deserved the first spot,
22:15and I think we all agreed on that.
