00:00Gap test with a wiggle.
00:03Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:05High thread cotton, that's lovely.
00:07Check in to each other's places.
00:09Good morning.
00:10Good morning.
00:11And check out one another.
00:13It can be hard not to take negative criticism personally.
00:17If you weren't prepared to take a bit of negativity,
00:20you shouldn't be in the competition, should you?
00:23Today, the guests are milking things.
00:26On my knees.
00:27Not the first one.
00:30As they battle.
00:32There's only really two hard rules.
00:34No access after 10pm.
00:36And we don't do duff-duff music.
00:39Duff, duff, duff.
00:40That's me out there.
00:41To be named best value for money.
00:43Road noise and distance.
00:45We're three miles from Stratford-on-Avon.
00:47You can't get there without a road.
00:55The second visit of the week is to Snitterfield in Warwickshire.
00:59And the Apple Farm.
01:01Run by couple Charlotte Cleveley and Matt Wood.
01:04A pair who like to sound things out.
01:07You're the loud one.
01:09I very dare you.
01:11People's first impressions of us.
01:13Yeah, might well be.
01:15Takes you a while to warm up sometimes.
01:17Yeah.
01:17I just live and breathe farming and agriculture, really.
01:20I don't really do at that house.
01:23Those looking for a silent night can choose from four self-catered bell tents for up to £125 a night and meet a pair who think they're pitch perfect.
01:34I'd like to think that we do offer the ultimate countryside experience.
01:38We are very much about getting away from everyday life to relax, come away from modern technology.
01:45Privacy and seclusion is really important.
01:47We're definitely more rustic than Ritz.
01:49And when it comes to the competition, they hope glamping won't prevent glory.
01:55It is hard to keep a glamp site clean, but you learn tricks over the years.
02:00The cleanliness is important.
02:02I think they would probably prefer to have ensuite bathrooms, but I am happy with what we offer, so we are happy to be judged.
02:10About to arrive are today's first guests.
02:14Are you excited?
02:15Yeah.
02:16You don't look very excited.
02:18Do you excited, Pat?
02:20I'm excited.
02:22Managing expectations are colleagues Ying Crook and Jean Ashton of Castle Inn in Knuckless Powis.
02:30On the last visit at drinks, Charlotte pitched the property.
02:34You will be glamping.
02:36Jean looks terrified.
02:37I'm brilliant.
02:38I'm good with that.
02:39You will be in bell tents.
02:42So today, Ying and Jean are ready to ring the changes.
02:46I didn't even know where a bell tent was.
02:49I'm just worried about if there's a toilet for me in the middle of the night.
02:53You know, I need me four o'clock work.
02:55You doing a bucket?
03:00I like big spares and...
03:02I just like the animals.
03:03Fresh air.
03:04Right then, shall we go and have a look?
03:07Good morning, ladies.
03:08Morning.
03:09Welcome to the apple farm.
03:11You are staying in the Golden Delicious Bell Tent.
03:15It is self-catering and it's £125 per night.
03:19We really hope you enjoy your stay and we'll see you later.
03:28Wow.
03:28What a different.
03:29I think it's cool.
03:31It's amazing that you've got a real bed in here.
03:33With Ying and Jean taking things lying down.
03:36Today's next guests are tuning up.
03:38If we were to have a singing competition, who do you think would win?
03:43If it's only just as to you might win, because I'm tone deaf.
03:46Well, that is true.
03:47Yeah.
03:47It's one of the worst singers I've ever heard.
03:49I would concur with that.
03:51Piping down, our married couple Karen and Brian Bebb of Becken Retreats near Newtown Powys.
03:57At the last visit, Charlotte gave everyone their bearings.
04:02You will be coming into 50 acres of countryside.
04:07And blew the gaff on grisly former guests.
04:10She called prior to her stay, because she was really quite concerned.
04:15Was she going to be safe and would there be bears?
04:20So today, Karen and Brian believe the hosts will bring the bucolic.
04:25I think it might be on a working farm.
04:27You might see sheep or cows.
04:28Yeah.
04:29Cattle.
04:29Bears.
04:30If a bear attacks us, yeah.
04:31If a bear attacks us.
04:32I'd put my trainers on because I can run faster.
04:34What's this about ladies first?
04:37Good morning.
04:38Good morning.
04:39Welcome to the Apple Farm.
04:40You are staying in Coxbell Tent, which is self-catering at £125 per night.
04:47And we hope you enjoy your stay.
04:48Brilliant.
04:53Oh, it's lovely.
04:54Yeah.
04:55You got a bed, which is good.
04:56Yeah, I'm glad we're not on the floor.
04:58Good, big space.
04:58I'm looking forward to this.
04:59Brilliant.
05:01There will only be two sets of guests arriving at the Apple Farm today,
05:05as this week's first hosts had to withdraw from the competition.
05:09With the hosts out of the way, the guests can take a bite out of the Apple Farm.
05:17All nice and clean in here?
05:18Yeah, perfect.
05:19Yeah, yeah.
05:19No one does.
05:21Clean.
05:22Let's have a look at the sheets.
05:24Yeah.
05:25Really clean and well ironed.
05:29It's all right, eh?
05:30It's all nice and clean down here.
05:31Nice and clean as well, I expect from the lamp inside.
05:34It's spotlessly clean.
05:34Yes.
05:35I like the wooden furniture.
05:36Yeah.
05:37Is it nice?
05:38I like it.
05:39So, look what's in the hamper.
05:41There's everything we need in there.
05:42These are lovely.
05:43We've got gas stove.
05:45Love the marshmallows.
05:46That's brilliant.
05:47I think there's everything here that we'll need.
05:49Oh, no.
05:51Soaking.
05:52That's not good.
05:53Not being checked properly.
05:54I think it might be old food.
05:56No, I wouldn't be happy using anything.
05:59It's a bit of a check.
06:00A check to your toilets, yeah.
06:01I hope I'm not going to want to go too many times in the night.
06:04I'll wet myself before I get up here.
06:06Is it this way?
06:06Yes, it is.
06:07Let's have a look at it.
06:10That's much quainter and cuter than I thought.
06:12Yeah.
06:13That's clean and tidy, isn't it?
06:15Yeah.
06:18Um...
06:18Oh, no.
06:20No, no, no.
06:21Shabba's minging.
06:21What, what, what, what?
06:22There's pubic hairs everywhere.
06:23It's minging, you.
06:26I think I can manage to shower in there.
06:28Yeah, the shower's quite big.
06:29Yeah, yeah.
06:30Traps nice and clean.
06:32Yeah.
06:32That's a nice touch, Jean.
06:34We've even got sanitary towels and tampons,
06:36a couple of toothbrushes.
06:37That's good, isn't it?
06:39Room inspection's almost over.
06:41Karen and Brian are chewing things over.
06:43I've got my...
06:44Well done.
06:48While Ying and Jean hit a bum note.
06:51Oh, no.
06:52Some don't flush the bloody leg.
06:54No, don't you, Jean.
06:55I can wash my bloody hands.
07:02In 1651, during the English Civil War,
07:06the future King Charles II fled through Snitterfield
07:09after defeat at the Battle of Worcester.
07:11Today, hosts Charlotte and Matt are hoping a tour
07:14of their 50-acre farm doesn't leave their guests
07:17running for the hills.
07:20Excited to see more of the farm,
07:21see what animals they've got here.
07:23And it's a big place, got a lot more to see.
07:27First up, everyone flocks to meet the locals.
07:30We're going to do a little bit of sheep feeding.
07:32Oh, hi.
07:33Hi.
07:34How are you?
07:34They're really gentle.
07:35So these are Wesson sheep.
07:37They are one of the world's smallest sheep breed.
07:40So these are fully grown.
07:42Who would like to have a go feeding the sheep?
07:43Me.
07:44Come on, then, Jean.
07:45Just place it in the palm of your hand.
07:47They'll nibble it out.
07:48They won't bite you, do you?
07:49No.
07:49No, they're really gentle.
07:51There you go.
07:53See, that's a lot easier than you thought, isn't it?
07:55Oh.
07:56Enjoying this, aren't they?
07:57You must be four now.
07:58No, they'll do this all day long.
08:01Charlotte and Matt seem really warm people.
08:03They've got a good sense of humour.
08:05They're accommodating.
08:06They've been really good hosts.
08:07Sheep snacks sorted.
08:09Next, it's time to encounter another resident.
08:12So, guys, I would like to formally introduce you
08:15to Daisy the cow.
08:18We created Daisy as a way of introducing dairy
08:22and milking to people.
08:24First of all, Matthew's going to give you a demonstration.
08:26You just squeeze and give a gentle pull
08:28and it should come out.
08:30You'll squeeze and pull.
08:31Oh, you're good at that, Matt.
08:33Have any of you guys got any experience with milking cows?
08:36When we were younger, we used to have cows at home.
08:37OK.
08:38I've done it a few times.
08:39At a guess, I'd say they either have been farmers
08:43or they still are.
08:44Could it be battle of the farms?
08:46Da-da-da.
08:48Agricultural experience outed.
08:50Brian is poised to pump.
08:54Oh, that brings out memories.
08:58So, it's like riding a bike?
08:59A misspent youth, that was.
09:03I think Karen and Brian, they must be farmers as well
09:06because how he do the...
09:08Daisy!
09:09Next, it's Jean's turn to master milking.
09:15So, we get down here, on my knees.
09:17Not the first time.
09:18The arms are too short.
09:26What are they laughing at?
09:28No, you're going to break the tail.
09:29I'm not going to break the tail.
09:31I've got to be able to grab them.
09:33Here.
09:34There you are, Jean.
09:35Go on, Jean.
09:35Not as fast as you, Matt.
09:37No.
09:38OK, you don't have to say it like that.
09:40I think the atmosphere today has been really good.
09:43I hope everyone's enjoyed getting out into the countryside
09:46and a bit of fun at the same time.
09:48Yeah, that's what it's all about.
09:50And with the afternoon drawing to a close,
09:52it seems friendships are forming down on the farm.
09:56We need to go for a drink, get together.
09:58Just like mates.
09:59And have a good night.
10:00The second visit of the week is to Snitterfield in Warwickshire,
10:10where tonight hosts Charlotte and Matt have invited their guests
10:13for a drink down their local.
10:16Cheers.
10:17Cheers.
10:17Cheers.
10:19And with bottoms up, Brian's bothered by the backstory.
10:24So, how did you come to start running the place you're at now?
10:27I had been living in Australia for 14 years.
10:31Oh, right.
10:32I worked in the city.
10:33Unfortunately, my dad was taken on well.
10:36So, I jumped on the next plane available.
10:38Thankfully, he was all right at that point
10:40and he had just bought this place.
10:43I thought he was slightly mad.
10:45We started with one bell temp and this is our eighth season.
10:49Well done.
10:50Who do you think your ideal target audience is?
10:53The majority of our guests are families.
10:56There's only really two hard rules.
10:59No access after 10pm.
11:00And we don't do duff-duff music.
11:03Duff-duff-duff-duff-duff.
11:05That's me out there.
11:07You like the duff-duff music, don't you?
11:08Oh, I like duff-duff music.
11:10Every time I think I've worked you out, Jean,
11:12you just get another belter in there.
11:14I think the more relaxed Jean gets,
11:16I think we will see more and more of her.
11:18And I think that's really cool.
11:19I'm really enjoying that.
11:20Groovy granny.
11:21Rugs cut.
11:24Charlotte wants to assess everyone's impressions
11:26of the alfresco accommodation.
11:29So, guys, how are you feeling about the glamping experience so far?
11:33This is the first time we've been glamping.
11:36I'm really enjoying it.
11:37Yeah, I'm pretty easy.
11:38I'll try anything.
11:39You probably all know that by now, anyway.
11:41No, I think it's good, I do.
11:44My life somewhere is quiet.
11:46I just want to spare for myself.
11:48That's the perfect place, then, really,
11:49because you can just sit amongst the apple trees
11:52and just be warm with nature.
11:54Yes, yes, I do.
11:55That was another reason we've spaced them out quite far apart,
11:58so you can't see the next person and they can't see you.
12:01Yes, I agree.
12:02You've got your own privacy, haven't you?
12:04To me, I couldn't think of anything worse
12:06but that awkward moment in the morning
12:08where you walk out your tent and go, hi.
12:09Or you can hear the person next door trumping.
12:15I think Charlotte's brilliant.
12:17She knows how to host people.
12:19Also, Matt, he come out a little bit more now.
12:22Tents trumpeted.
12:24Next, Brian turns the tables on his hosts.
12:27Would you choose to go glamping if you weren't on holiday?
12:31I would, but the longer we're doing this now,
12:35the more I find I don't switch off.
12:37Yeah.
12:38It's a best man's holiday.
12:39I'm not sure it is my cup of tea, but...
12:42I struggle to get him to go on holiday at the best of times, to be honest.
12:45True farmer.
12:47Yeah.
12:47We're the next for you all,
12:49and it might be a little bit like a busman's holiday
12:52because we are self-catering as well.
12:54It is different to yours.
12:56We're both looking forward to you coming over to ours next.
12:59We're looking forward to that coming.
13:00Cheers.
13:01Good.
13:01Finding out that Brian and Catherine are self-catering,
13:05certainly not a problem for me.
13:07I think that they're going to have a really nice property.
13:11I'm really looking forward to going there.
13:13Drink's done.
13:14The guests head back to their digs,
13:16where Ying and Jean are on a toilet trek.
13:19Better find this bathroom.
13:20I think there's one thing missing you, if they had signages.
13:23I think it should be some, like, a clear direction.
13:27We don't know where we are.
13:28Here we go.
13:29Here we go.
13:29Oh, this is it.
13:31And Karen's also worried about distance to the dunny.
13:34I'm a little bit concerned about how far it is to the toilet,
13:37but we'll see how I manage.
13:39See you in the morning.
13:39I'll see you in the morning.
13:40Good night, Jean.
13:41Sleep well.
13:41A new day's dawned in Snitterfield,
13:48where Jean's canvassing Ying's opinion.
13:51How'd you sleep?
13:52Slept good, to be fair.
13:53Surprise.
13:53Surprise myself.
13:54I was surprised as well.
13:56Meanwhile, Brian's not pouring cold water on the experience.
14:00Shower was good?
14:01Yeah.
14:01Nice and hot.
14:02I slept well last night.
14:03It was a comfy bed.
14:05How did you sleep last night?
14:06Yeah, not bad.
14:07I couldn't get back to sleep this morning, though,
14:08because of the sound from outside.
14:09On the motorway?
14:10Yeah.
14:10A little bit noisy.
14:12It's a heck of a long way for the toilet.
14:13I'm a little bit surprised they're that far away.
14:16And Jean's also had a wee issue.
14:18I managed to hold it until this morning,
14:21but then when I went to the toilet, I'm like, ishing.
14:25Like this.
14:26So I didn't wet myself.
14:29The Apple Farm is a self-catering fair,
14:32and the hosts believe variety is the spice of life.
14:35I think we do offer the best of both worlds.
14:37You definitely can make a good breakfast
14:39with the equipment that we give to people.
14:43Or equally, there is a really lovely cafe,
14:45a walkable distance from us,
14:47that you could choose to go and use as well.
14:49This morning, both sets of guests
14:51have opted to bite into the local cafe's breakfast offering.
14:55Morning, ladies.
14:56Good morning.
14:56Good morning.
14:57Where waiter Ben is out to take the orders.
15:01Hi there.
15:02Good morning, everyone.
15:03I'm Ben.
15:04Are you ready to order?
15:05Could I have the avocado benedict with the streaky bacon, please?
15:08Yes, of course.
15:09Can I have full English breakfast, please?
15:11Certainly.
15:12On the way shortly.
15:16Selections sorted.
15:17Everyone reflects on an intense evening.
15:20How did you get on last night?
15:22How did you sleep?
15:23Really good.
15:24Yeah.
15:24I was nervous about having to wake up for a wee.
15:26Yeah, no, I was the same.
15:28I managed to hold it until this morning.
15:30Oh, well done.
15:31Yeah.
15:32I've got to confess, I cheated last night.
15:34Did you have a night away?
15:35I did.
15:36Fair play to you.
15:36Oh, no.
15:37I did.
15:37Well, I was going to have a night away as well, but quite a few slugs, and I thought,
15:44no, I'll try and hold it into the morning.
15:46Getting your bottom too close to the ground.
15:47No.
15:48No.
15:49From what Karen said at breakfast, I think we all had the same concern about the bathrooms
15:54being so far from our tents.
15:57Facilities flushed out, grubs up.
15:59Madam, your avocado eggs benedict.
16:02This looks absolutely lovely.
16:04Dribbling like my dog.
16:07It's runny now.
16:09Oh, wow.
16:10Oh, look at that, guys.
16:11Wow, wow, wow.
16:11Look at that.
16:12Beautiful eggs.
16:17Oh, what's your brown?
16:19Oh, it's delicious.
16:20Ash brown, nice as well.
16:21Oh, it's a good hash brown.
16:22You can tell this is really good quality ingredients, can't you?
16:25Nice fresh eggs.
16:26The yam's lovely as well.
16:28It's a good recommendation for breakfast.
16:30You couldn't beat that breakfast.
16:31No, no.
16:31That was top.
16:32Just wish I could come back.
16:33Yeah.
16:34Real good quality food.
16:36Couldn't have asked for a nicer breakfast.
16:37Yeah.
16:37The recommendation from Charlotte and Matt for breakfast there was absolutely spot on.
16:43Scran's suggestion of success, everyone's keen to gab about glamping.
16:48I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
16:49For my first glamping experience, I'm not put off at all.
16:54It's different as well, isn't it?
16:55Yeah, it's the first time we've done a bell tent.
16:58I'm not sure it's something I'd do very often, but it's a nice option to have.
17:01I think they said that their target market is, like, young families, but we like our luxuries a little bit more now and being pampered.
17:09Yeah.
17:10I think the group's enjoyed being off-grid.
17:11It's a different experience, but I think they've embraced it.
17:13Yeah, I think Jean's really enjoyed it.
17:15Yeah.
17:16Plates polished off.
17:17It's time for the guests to get stuck into the anonymous feedback forms.
17:22Let's go down to the business.
17:23How are your hosts at the Apple Farm?
17:27Super hosts.
17:27Super hosts.
17:28Couldn't be better.
17:29I think I'd give them a 10.
17:30Yeah.
17:31Lovely hosts.
17:33We enjoy outdoor experience.
17:36That is over 10.
17:37Yeah.
17:38Yeah.
17:38How clean was the Apple Farm?
17:41Everything was spotless, even toilet block.
17:44Yep.
17:44I think that's a 10.
17:4510.
17:46The 10 was clean.
17:49Bathroom was dirty.
17:51We found some hairs, toilet, neat, flush, dirty cooking equipment.
18:00I'm going to size 6 then.
18:02Ah.
18:03Do you not agree with that?
18:05OK.
18:066.
18:07How were the facilities?
18:09Great outside facilities.
18:11Super hot shower.
18:12Just a shame about the distance to the toilet.
18:14Probably an 8.
18:15I agree with that.
18:16Night touch-off basket in bathroom.
18:18Not keen on distant to the chair bathroom.
18:21In the dark.
18:22Sign it.
18:23Need it.
18:23Do you think 7?
18:24Yeah.
18:25How did you sleep?
18:27Comfy bed.
18:28Slept well, but woke early with road noise in distance.
18:328 is good.
18:32Yeah.
18:338.
18:34How was breakfast?
18:35Fantastic.
18:36Delicious.
18:37Good recommendation from the host.
18:39Definitely a 10.
18:40Right, now for the big question.
18:44Would you stay here again?
18:45Because of the experience we've had, I'd definitely come again.
18:48Yes.
18:50Having the toilet so far away is a bit of an issue for me.
18:52No.
18:55Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:59Good?
18:59Yeah.
18:59Let's go.
19:00The cash will be kept under wraps until the end of the competition.
19:04But for now, Charlotte and Matt can get to the core of what their guests made of the
19:09apple farm.
19:10Let's find out if everyone really did have fun on the farm.
19:14How were your hosts at the apple farm?
19:16And we got a 10.
19:17That's good.
19:18Lovely hosts.
19:19We enjoyed the outdoor experience.
19:21That's great.
19:22A big part of what we do is the outdoor experience.
19:25How clean was the apple farm of six?
19:28Not over the moon with that.
19:29The tent was clean.
19:31The shared bathroom was dirty.
19:32We found some hairs.
19:34Toilet needs a flush.
19:35Having shared bathrooms, there's always going to be that risk.
19:40Very much hope in the future to move towards private bathrooms.
19:44Unless there was an extraordinary amount of hair, I think dirty is probably a bit harsh.
19:50Dirty cooking equipment.
19:52That's a pity to hear.
19:53It would be nice to get more explanation behind the actual specifics of what they found.
19:59How were the facilities?
20:00We scored a seven.
20:01Not terrible.
20:02Nice touch of basket in the bathroom.
20:05I think that's a really thoughtful touch, adding that basket in.
20:07Thank you, my love.
20:08Distance to the shared bathroom in the dark is less than 50 metres.
20:13But if you're out of your comfort zone, then I can understand perhaps why that comment's been made.
20:19Signage needed.
20:20I might agree with that.
20:21Maybe that would be helpful.
20:23How was breakfast?
20:24Ten.
20:25Wee.
20:25Got to love another ten.
20:26Fantastic and delicious breakfast.
20:29Good recommendations from the host.
20:31It's great to be able to support other businesses.
20:34So, yeah, chuffed with that.
20:36Thank you very much.
20:36See you.
20:37You're welcome.
20:38See you guys.
20:39I'm not sure these guys will stay again.
20:41I'm convinced they will.
20:43Would you stay here again?
20:44We got a yes.
20:45Well, hey.
20:46See you, told you.
20:47I'm genuinely surprised with that.
20:50Let's see if we've got some more farm converts.
20:53How were your hosts at the apple farm?
20:55We got another ten.
20:57I'm really pleased with that.
20:58Super hosts.
20:59Well, that's good to hear.
21:00Yeah.
21:00How clean was the apple farm?
21:02We got ten.
21:03Another one.
21:04Everything was spotless.
21:06Even toilet block.
21:07Two sets of guests.
21:09One of them feels we're a six and we're dirty.
21:11The other one thinks we're ten and spotless.
21:14They've obviously got different standards.
21:16How were facilities?
21:17We got an eight.
21:18That's okay.
21:19That's a good score.
21:19Great outside facilities.
21:21Really great to hear.
21:22Super hot shower.
21:24Just a shame about the distance to the toilet.
21:26I'm pretty confident this has to be Brian and Karen.
21:29They are in our furthest bell tent.
21:31If you walked really slowly, I think it would take you two minutes.
21:35How did you sleep?
21:36We scored an eight.
21:38It's not bad.
21:39Not bad, no.
21:40Comfy bed.
21:41That's the aim of the game.
21:42Slept well, but woke early with road noise and distance.
21:46We're three miles from Stratford-on-Avon.
21:47You can't get there without a road.
21:50Thanks for a great state.
21:51See you guys.
21:52See you later.
21:53Bye.
21:54So do you think it's a yes or a no?
21:56No.
21:57I think they will.
21:58It was a no.
21:59I was wrong this time.
22:00I was expecting that.
22:03It would be great to get right to the bottom of why they didn't want to stay,
22:08but I really don't see that as too much of a negative.
22:11I'm not completely heartbroken by that.
22:15Next time when Karen and Brian host...
22:18Morning.
22:18Morning.
22:19Hi.
22:19Ying and Jean steam up in the shower.
22:23Slimmy.
22:24Look what I found, Jing.
22:26Hair.
22:27As the hosts raise the temperature.
22:29Totally shocks me.
22:31They weren't clean.
22:31They were spotless.
22:32ternals.
22:53learning cooked prep.
22:54They were spotless.
22:55They were spotless, and you can trip out to the back.
22:56They were spotless, but they haven't.
22:57They were spotless.
22:57They were spotless.
22:58They're spotless.
22:59Stay with their spotless.
22:59They're spotless.
