00:00Right, right, right, right, right.
00:03Four sets of holiday hosts.
00:05Wow.
00:06Can't see that.
00:07Wow.
00:08Check in to each other's places.
00:10Hiya.
00:10Hello.
00:10Hello, welcome to Redmire Village Pub.
00:12And suss out one another.
00:14The pub was shut for a year, so a gentleman bought it and wanted us to open the pub for the community.
00:20You feel a little bit like you're part of the community when you're here. It's really nice.
00:25Today, the group drink it all in.
00:27Was that a strategic decision to bring us here and get us all married?
00:32No.
00:33You know us to, uh, oh.
00:36As they battle.
00:37It was a bit of an issue with noise, and that delayed my sleep a bit.
00:41To be named Best Value for Money.
00:43Would you stay here again?
00:44No.
00:45That's really disappointing.
00:53The second visit of the week is to Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
00:56And the Yorkshire hosts, owned by Ben Dean and Holly Harper, a couple who prove opposites attract.
01:03I'm definitely a real people person.
01:05I love meeting new people.
01:06I love speaking to guests.
01:08Ben, not so much.
01:10Yeah, I can't say people are my favourite.
01:13I'm just not a huge people person.
01:17Guests looking for hosts with the most unlikely profession can choose from five self-catered, self-check-in apartments for up to £160 per night, based on a two-night minimum, in a place the hosts believe is brilliant.
01:30It's super modern, it's luxurious, it has everything that you would need to stay, whether you're staying for a weekend to enjoy the town, or you're staying here for three, four months at a time.
01:42It's got a real home-from-home feeling.
01:44But there's one feature which won't have the pair shouting from the rooftops.
01:47Being in a town centre does have its drawbacks.
01:51It can be busy, there can be noise, there's a lot of things going on which might disrupt sleep on some occasion, but that's living in a town centre.
01:59About to arrive are today's first guests.
02:02I wonder where they're going to take us today.
02:04I hope it's not something mad, like rapping or dancing or performing on the stage.
02:13Spitting lyrics.
02:14Our husband and wife, Anna Taylor and Dominic Nicholas, owners of the Bull Inn in Stanford, Dingley, Berkshire.
02:21Last time out over drinks.
02:23Cheers.
02:24Holly and Ben brought their guests up to date.
02:27So, what can we expect at your place?
02:29We've got some very modern apartments in the town centre, aimed at the more modern guests.
02:36It is self-check-in, but you'll have all the information that you need before you arrive.
02:40Sounds exciting.
02:41Yeah.
02:42So today, Dominic and Anna are forward-thinking.
02:45I'm very excited. I'm sure Holly and Ben's place is going to be pretty top-end.
02:50I think it's going to be a little bit plush.
02:54Well, looks like we got a message.
02:56Ooh, let's find out.
02:57You will be stayed in apartment number one, which is a one-bedroom apartment and has a nightly rate of 147.50.
03:06That's a chunk.
03:07It's on the high end.
03:12Oh, look. 1680.
03:14I mean, if you're staying here for a long weekend, that's going to add up pretty quickly.
03:18Here we are.
03:20You got the code?
03:22And we're in.
03:24Let's go.
03:24Let's go.
03:27Oh, wow.
03:29Yeah, this is great.
03:30Really modern.
03:31As Anna and Dominic contemplate the contemporary, the next guests are pondering perceptions.
03:37What do you think the other guests think of us?
03:40I don't know.
03:42We're the old one.
03:43We're the token oldies.
03:44Asking an age-old question, a couple, Tabitha and Steve Cartmail, of Copper Beach Glamping, in Woodseves, Staffordshire.
03:54Last time out, Ben gossiped about the good life.
03:57When we stay somewhere, it has to have a wow factor, and the views that you get from your pub is just unbelievable.
04:03Wow factor.
04:04I didn't know if they were alluding to what they offer at their accommodation.
04:08So today, Steve and Tabitha are wondering how wowee their place might be.
04:14So you think we're going to get glam and glitch?
04:16I'm thinking top-end high-spec is what they're going for.
04:19Just had a text come through from Ben and Holly.
04:23Apartment 5, £147.50 a night.
04:28Got to pay parking on top of that.
04:30I'd be hoping for a pretty luxury room to get my money's worth.
04:35We're in.
04:37OK.
04:38Wow.
04:39Such lovely, clean colours, bright.
04:43As Tabitha and Steve look on the bright side, today's final guests are on unfamiliar ground.
04:49I'm not used to this.
04:50There's a lot of people about.
04:52Lots of traffic.
04:53We're used to tractors and sheep.
04:56Out of left field, our besties Kerry Mackenzie and Vicky Billingham of the Redmire Village Pub in Redmire, North Yorkshire.
05:04Last time out when they hosted...
05:06Hi, guys.
05:07Hello.
05:07Hello.
05:08Welcome to Redmire Village Pub.
05:09Tabitha and Steve were cool on the decor.
05:12It's not what I was expecting.
05:14No.
05:14Very white.
05:16So at feedback, they styled it out.
05:18Unfortunately, the room felt a little stark and functional.
05:22I think it's a six.
05:24We've got a six.
05:25Quite disappointing.
05:27Yeah.
05:27But today, for Kerry and Vicky, it's water under the bridge.
05:31I'm looking forward to this.
05:32Pressure's off.
05:33Yep.
05:34Our bit's done now.
05:35We can just enjoy the rest of the time now.
05:37You will be staying in apartment three, which is our two-bed apartment and has a nightly rate of £160.
05:44Oh, wow.
05:53Oh, wow.
05:54This looks lovely.
05:55Yeah, very upscale.
05:58With the hosts out of the way, the guests can see if the Yorkshire hosts is their cup of tea.
06:05Oh, I bet it's bristine, isn't it?
06:06Really clean and fresh.
06:08These are quality.
06:09Love a good cushion shop.
06:11Yeah.
06:12Brand new.
06:13Clean.
06:13Not a speck.
06:14I wouldn't expect anything less from them.
06:16If we're staying just a couple of nights, it's more than we would need, isn't it?
06:20Oh, it's certainly more than adequate.
06:21You've got everything that you want.
06:23And you could have some friends round, couldn't you?
06:26These must be a nightmare to clean.
06:28There's a little bit of a dust.
06:30That's a nice gesture, isn't it?
06:31It's a nice touch.
06:32Just what you need.
06:33Lots of essentials.
06:34Yeah.
06:35Nice with a gin and tonic, weren't it?
06:36Sit for your gin and tonic.
06:37I could survive here.
06:39Telly?
06:39Generally, it's very well sought out.
06:42Very high-end appliances.
06:44The furnishings are very high quality.
06:49Ooh.
06:49That's stunning.
06:50Looks really high quality.
06:52Yeah.
06:53It seems very modern.
06:54Yeah, shower's massive.
06:56You can have a party in there.
06:57Yeah.
06:58Room inspection's almost over.
07:00Kerry and Vicky face the final frontier.
07:03It's like something out of Starship Enterprise.
07:06Beaming up Vicky.
07:08Dominic and Anna make a splash.
07:10So, should we have that party?
07:12I'll just close you in there and have some peace.
07:14And Tabitha and Steve are in for a long night.
07:17This could be interesting tonight.
07:19Harrogate once held the title of the happiest place to live in Britain for three consecutive years.
07:30And today, hosts Ben and Holly want to put a smile on their guests' faces with a gin-making experience.
07:37I'm really excited about distilling our own gin today.
07:41I've never done it before.
07:42Yeah, I'm not really that much of a drinker, but I'm sure I'll make it, you'll drink it.
07:46Yes.
07:46The Spirit of Harrogate offers a gin masterclass, where visitors create bespoke gins tailored to their tastes.
07:55Hi.
07:56Hello.
07:56Welcome to the home of Slingsby Gin.
07:59At wetting the appetite today is gin guru Marcus.
08:03Gin is just vodka flavoured with juniper.
08:06Other than that, anything you like.
08:08Hopefully, during the course of today, we'll find a flavour profile that suits you, and as well as having some fun, you're going to be making your own gin.
08:17Marcus and his team have provided the group with samples of six flavour profiles to help them become gin genii.
08:24I can't put my finger on what it tastes like.
08:26I have no idea.
08:27I can definitely taste citrus in it.
08:29Yeah, I'm getting a little bit of fruit in that.
08:31Yeah.
08:32Ooh, that's our herb garden outside the kitchen window.
08:34And the group give a flavour of their tastes.
08:37We like number one.
08:38We like number one citrus.
08:40I think we're fruity, so we'll go with number two.
08:44Excellent.
08:45I think number four for me was my favourite.
08:46Excellent.
08:47That's herbal.
08:48I'm more the herbal or spice.
08:50And I preferred the fruit.
08:51I didn't realise there was so much variation in a gin.
08:56It's always good to learn something new, isn't it?
08:58So I found it an education and an enjoyable one at that.
09:02Taste buds tantalised.
09:03The group are given a set of recipes on a tablet.
09:06Which one are you going?
09:07Or citrus.
09:08And then they select their botanicals.
09:11There's so many options.
09:13There's so many.
09:14Herbal with a fruity twist.
09:16Fruity twist.
09:16Should we get both of these then?
09:17Yeah.
09:18To make it citrusy?
09:19Yeah.
09:19Next, the guests mix their ingredients.
09:22Right, do you want to do mango?
09:25And it seems the hosts have their guests in high spirits.
09:28Was that a strategic decision to bring us here and get us all merry to have a nice night's sleep in your place?
09:35Ben and Holly were really chirpy and happy and, yeah, enthusiastic about it all, which was nice to see.
09:47I think Ben and Holly have done a fantastic job as hosts.
09:50Even though they haven't been present there at the check-in, the information guidance was spot on.
09:57Botanicals boshed.
09:58The stills are on.
10:00And with 40 minutes to kill, Steve digs deep.
10:02Do you point your guests in this direction?
10:05We always try and point them to local businesses.
10:08So there's a pump room, there's all the different gardens of the Turkish baths.
10:12There's famous Turkish baths, yeah.
10:13There's so much to do in Harrogate.
10:15There's a lot going on in terms of the convention centre.
10:18We've got two theatres here as well.
10:20It's a nice pull for people visiting.
10:22There's a lot on their doorstep and that is a gem.
10:26Gin finished.
10:27Ooh.
10:28The group taste their tipples.
10:30Oh.
10:31That's nice.
10:31All the sweetness is right at the end of that, isn't it?
10:33Yeah, it's really nice.
10:34That's lovely.
10:35You can taste the citrus in it though, definitely.
10:37Yeah, definitely.
10:38And one pair have their eye on the night ahead.
10:40We're looking forward to drinks.
10:41It'd be nice to ask Holly and Ben some more questions.
10:44I think the gin tasting's loosened everyone's lips, so it might be fun.
10:55The second visit of the week is to Harrogate, North Yorkshire,
10:59where tonight hosts Holly and Ben have invited their guests to a local bar for drinks.
11:04Welcome to Harrogate.
11:06Cheers.
11:08And with tipples tasted, Anna gets down to business.
11:12How did you come about running this place?
11:15So we actually came across the property on social media.
11:19The landlord was looking for a tenant, so we sent him a message which led to a meeting
11:25and we managed to get it that way, didn't we?
11:28Yeah.
11:28So basically, are you a management company who don't own properties?
11:34We do a mixture of the two.
11:35And what are your roles within the business?
11:37Do you have defined roles?
11:39Yeah, I'm definitely the boss.
11:41Ben's got a full-time job, but we've got 20 properties in total,
11:45so it takes up a lot of both of our time.
11:47But I'm more operations, guest communication, and Ben's more...
11:50Number crunching, things like that.
11:53Yeah, we have been known to crunch numbers in bed.
11:56We do.
11:57Yeah, it's quite romantic.
11:58I cannot believe that.
12:01Holly and Ben as a couple are really, really, really nice.
12:05From a business point of view, obviously they've put their heart and soul
12:08into what they've achieved, and they've achieved a lot.
12:10Ben and Holly are pretty annoying.
12:13What? Why?
12:15Well, not only they're young, good-looking...
12:18Yeah, that's annoying.
12:19...successful.
12:20Annoying.
12:21Shall I continue?
12:21OK, yeah, they're pretty annoying.
12:24I've got a question for the couples.
12:27How do you guys find it working with your better halves?
12:32I do not work with Tabitha.
12:34At all.
12:36Yeah, and that's the truth, isn't it?
12:38And that is probably for the best.
12:40If anything what's doing within Tabitha's business,
12:42you'll ask and I will do it.
12:44I do that, you do the farm.
12:45On the whole, I run the business.
12:48To be completely honest, we never see each other.
12:50Like, I go to my full-time job, and obviously we have a little one as well.
12:54So it's a lot to juggle at the moment.
12:57So, Anna, you run the business.
13:00Yeah.
13:00You run the business, Tabitha.
13:02You run the business, Holly.
13:03So, who runs the world?
13:05Definitely girls.
13:06Girls.
13:07Cheers to that.
13:07Cheers.
13:08Cheers.
13:09Guilt power.
13:11One of the things I was hoping to get out of this competition
13:14is a little bit of a validation,
13:16and having heard that all the girls are in the leading positions
13:20is really, really empowering.
13:22Destiny fulfilled.
13:25Kerry wants to dig into Steve's career.
13:27What do you farm, Steve?
13:29Predominantly sheep.
13:30I also have some massive shire horses.
13:34So is that a hint to where we're going to be actually staying on the farm?
13:38The strap line of our business is escape the everyday.
13:41We're selling an experience, not accommodation.
13:45That sounds like glamping.
13:46Your favourite.
13:49I'm excited about inviting those guests
13:52who are a little bit trepidatious of coming to the countryside
13:54and just showing them what they're missing.
13:57Yeah.
13:57Yeah, let's have a bit of fun.
14:00Drinks done.
14:01It's all back to the apartments.
14:04Where Tabitha and Steve have had a narrow squeak.
14:07The curse of the bed.
14:09Hope we don't keep the neighbours up.
14:14It's a new day in Harrogate.
14:19I slept very well.
14:20It was a really comfortable bed.
14:22But Kerry and Vicky didn't get their 40 winks.
14:25It was a good night's sleep up until about quarter to five-ish.
14:30Yeah, the same.
14:31This morning with the builders across the way, it was super noisy.
14:35Lots of street noise, isn't it?
14:37Meanwhile, in their room,
14:38Tabitha and Steve are shedding light on their slumber.
14:41Woken by the sunlight this morning.
14:43It might be handy to have an additional blind.
14:46I think a blackout blind would solve that problem.
14:49Yeah.
14:49There was a bit of an issue with noise, just not used to it,
14:52so I think that kind of delayed my sleep a bit.
14:54Managed to silence the squeaky headboard by use of a towel.
15:00Breakfast at the Yorkshire hosts is a self-catering affair.
15:04And while both Kerry and Vicky and Tabitha and Steve are cooking up a storm,
15:09Dominic and Anna have hot-footed it to a local cafe.
15:11But it's the hosts feeling the heat.
15:14You're getting a little bit nervous.
15:16The nerves are kicking in now.
15:16Yeah, yeah.
15:17As we inch closer to the feedback forms,
15:19I'm starting to feel a little bit jittery.
15:22As Dominic and Anna mull the menu...
15:24I think I have to go for the full English.
15:26You don't get this physique without putting in the hard work.
15:30...back in the apartments...
15:31Shall we see what they've got, what they offer?
15:33The remaining guests get to grips with the set-up.
15:36There's a real good selection.
15:37What do we need?
15:38Just a frying pan?
15:39Yes.
15:40One for egg, one for bacon.
15:42There's definitely everything in here for a full English breakfast.
15:45Do you think they'll have provided oil?
15:47Oh, we have.
15:48How nice.
15:50This is immaculately clean.
15:53So everything was there in the kitchen that we needed?
15:55Yeah.
15:55It all looked brand new and lovely.
15:57I think they've got everything.
15:58You can't fault the amenities in the kitchen at all.
16:00Over in the cafe, Grub's Up.
16:03Thank you ever so much.
16:04This looks really good.
16:06Definitely a benefit, staying somewhere in the town centre.
16:09You get to come out and enjoy all the local cafes.
16:12Back in the apartments, the food is good to go.
16:15Mate, have you made your sandwiches with two bottoms and two dogs?
16:18I have.
16:19And the guests dig in.
16:21I don't mind saying it, I'm a pretty good cook.
16:24Good?
16:25Mm-hm.
16:25Enjoying it?
16:26Mm-hm.
16:27I think if we came here for a weekend and we were eating,
16:29it would be all right, wouldn't it?
16:30Yeah.
16:31It's nice to sit down at a table and not have it balanced.
16:34I don't know.
16:34It's like breakfast at home, but in a different setting.
16:38There was everything in the kitchen to make any sort of breakfast.
16:41You could have gone continental, full English.
16:43You know, there's no complaints about the facilities
16:45and what they've provided.
16:46It's like home from home.
16:47Kitchen's critiqued.
16:49It's the offering on the menu.
16:51One thing I like about this place,
16:52no hand washing, just in the dishwasher.
16:54Ben and Holly have mentioned this several times,
16:57how important it is for them to have a wow factor.
17:00The modern appliances are a bit of a wow factor, I think,
17:03because it's all extremely high-end.
17:05Was this everything you expected from Ben and Holly?
17:08Yeah.
17:08It's a gorgeous apartment.
17:10I've had a really nice day.
17:11It's been lovely.
17:11Yeah.
17:12I think the fact that it's horseless is OK as well.
17:16It runs really smoothly.
17:17I think they've got it right on the button.
17:19It's gone smoothly.
17:21It does what it says on the tin.
17:22Yeah.
17:23We've got all the instructions for everything we need.
17:25It's just a shame that we didn't see much of Ben and Holly.
17:28Yeah.
17:28Breakfast finished.
17:30It's time for the guests to get stuck
17:31into the anonymous feedback forms.
17:34Let's do it.
17:34Yeah.
17:35How were your hosts at the Yorkshire hosts?
17:38Smooth transition to the apartment.
17:40Despite them not being here,
17:41I think they did a really good job.
17:43Yeah.
17:43I would still go for a ten.
17:45OK.
17:45Yeah.
17:46How clean was the Yorkshire hosts?
17:48Really clean.
17:49A speck of dust on the windows.
17:50I would go nine.
17:51Yeah, I think nine's about right.
17:53How were the facilities?
17:54Well equipped?
17:55Well equipped.
17:55Yeah.
17:56The parking was a little inconvenient when we arrived here.
17:58So nine?
17:59Nine.
18:00Parking is a little bit of a small but expensive issue.
18:03Very modern and high-end apartment.
18:05Should we say nine?
18:06Yeah.
18:06So, how did you sleep?
18:08I slept extremely well up until a certain point.
18:11Walking in early hours due to busy streets and then builders.
18:15Seven?
18:15Yeah.
18:16Seven's fair.
18:16Agreed.
18:16Squeaky headboard.
18:18Early waking because of the light.
18:20Through blind.
18:21Exterior noise.
18:22Disturbed sleep.
18:23Yeah.
18:23I think it's got to be a seven.
18:24Yeah, I'd go with a seven.
18:26Great night's sleep.
18:27A full ten.
18:28Yeah, I agree.
18:29So, how was breakfast?
18:31We had everything we needed.
18:32I think we'd have to give them a ten.
18:34Absolutely, I agree.
18:35Well equipped kitchen.
18:37Got to be a ten.
18:38So, ten.
18:39Final question.
18:41Would we stay here again?
18:42Big fat yes.
18:44I would definitely stay again.
18:45It was a lovely stay.
18:47It doesn't offer what we would be looking for.
18:51No.
18:54Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:58Are you sure?
18:58Yeah.
18:59The cash will be kept under wraps until the end of the competition.
19:03But for now, Ben and Holly can see if there's not so queer as folk
19:07as they read the Yorkshire hosts' reviews.
19:10I'm a little bit nervous, I've got to say.
19:12I can tell.
19:13Shall we have a look?
19:15Let's do it.
19:15How clean was the Yorkshire hosts?
19:18Nine.
19:18Nine.
19:19That's still good.
19:20Yeah.
19:20Really clean.
19:21Let's stop there.
19:24Speck of dust on windows.
19:27We might oversee these things.
19:28We do try our best.
19:29Definitely.
19:30How were the facilities?
19:32Nine.
19:33I'm happy with that.
19:34I'm happy with that too.
19:35Parking is a small, expensive issue.
19:37We are super central and we don't offer parking as part of the accommodation.
19:42Very modern and high-end apartment.
19:45That's amazing.
19:46That's great.
19:46That's a great comment.
19:47How did you sleep?
19:49Turn.
19:50That is what we like to see.
19:52Great night's sleep.
19:54Perfect.
19:55You couldn't ask for any more.
19:56Yeah.
19:57No, that's really good.
19:58Should we find out if we'll stay again?
20:01Let's do it.
20:02Yes!
20:07One down.
20:08Two to go.
20:09Let's do it.
20:10How were your hosts at the Yorkshire hosts?
20:13Ten.
20:14Good start.
20:15Smooth transition.
20:17I feel like that's linking to all the instructions and how to check in.
20:21I think that's a really, really good thing.
20:23How did you sleep?
20:24Seven.
20:25That's not good.
20:26No, it's not good at all, is it?
20:27Slept really well initially, woken in the early hours due to a busy street and builders.
20:33Unfortunately, we know that there's work going on, which is completely out of our control.
20:37How was breakfast?
20:38Ten.
20:39That's great.
20:40We had everything we needed.
20:42That's amazing.
20:43Yeah, that's great.
20:44You ready to go?
20:45Yeah, let's do it.
20:47The big question?
20:48Mm-hmm.
20:49Would you stay here again?
20:50Yes.
20:51Nice.
20:52That's amazing news.
20:54So, two out of two.
20:58Let's go.
20:58How were the facilities?
21:00Nine.
21:01Another good score there.
21:02Well equipped.
21:03That's exactly how I would describe it too.
21:06Inconvenient parking.
21:08There's a point where our hands are tired, I think.
21:10Yeah.
21:11How did you sleep?
21:12Seven.
21:14That's not good, is it?
21:15Oh, that's a shame.
21:16Squeaky headboard.
21:18If it did disturb the sleep, that is a massive shame.
21:20Early morning light through the blind.
21:23The sun does rise that size.
21:25Maybe with blackout blinds or something like that.
21:26Yeah.
21:27Exterior noise disturbed sleep.
21:30We are in a central location.
21:32It's just one of those things.
21:33How was breakfast?
21:34Ten.
21:35Ten.
21:35OK, that's amazing.
21:37Well equipped kitchen.
21:38Great feedback.
21:39One which we're really happy with.
21:41Yeah.
21:41Shall we see if they will come back?
21:45Let's have a look.
21:46Would you stay here again?
21:48No.
21:48No.
21:49That's really disappointing.
21:50That is really disappointing.
21:53It's definitely game time now.
21:55I feel like the competitive streak has just been ignited in me.
22:01Next time at Tabitha and Steve's place.
22:03Morning.
22:04Morning, Tabitha.
22:05Everything's ready for you in Shepherd's View.
22:08The guests get straight to it.
22:10Oh.
22:11We've got a shot on Curly.
22:12Oh dear.
22:14And the hosts hit the heights.
22:15The ceiling was too low.
22:18It's not something we can do anything about.
22:20Not that clear.
22:24Hu- discrete music is too low.
22:25Cause of doubt.
22:26biếtit'd be important.
22:26But we'll see what happens.
22:27Let's hear this in your mid- Kansas pète.
22:27I'll look for it.
22:28I feel like we could not drop that in through the concrete.
22:30So let's be sure what happens.
22:31Bye-bye.
22:31Bye-bye.
22:32Bye-bye.
