00:00Well, the Prince of Port of Spain, Brian Lara, has given his take on what can be done to help revive West Indies cricket.
00:06After a crisis meeting in search of a solution by Cricket West Indies and some of the legends,
00:12Lara has dropped a few suggestions which he thinks can light a way forward.
00:15Firstly, he believes that there should be a more expansive and inclusive approach.
00:20He thinks that the challenges go far beyond inconsistent performances on the field.
00:24He indicated the problems are rooted in cultural, psychological and structural shifts.
00:30That have evolved over the past two decades.
00:33He thinks there will be a need to draw on players with the experience and contemporary insight of this generation.
00:39Lara stated, quote,
00:41I believe former players such as Chris Gale, Dwayne Bravo and Kyron Pollard possess a unique and timely perspective that can prove invaluable.
00:49These men have not only played at the highest level, but have done so in an era that reflects the modern athlete's psyche, ambitions and motivations.
00:59Their proximity to today's players in terms of generational alignment and shared dressing rooms gives them an authentic understanding of what drives, distracts and disillusions of the modern West Indian cricketer, end quote.
01:14He added,
01:15It's crucial that the approach to a solution should involve understanding how today's players think, what they value and what truly motivates them.
01:23And who better to know than players that dominated the franchise circuits.
01:27Lara therefore thinks the lasting solution reconnects performance with purpose as they prepare to be better equipped to tackle the structural and psychological challenges that continue to plague the regional game.
