Following the huge loss to India in the opening One-Day International, Windies women's coach Shane Deitz says his team has to improve in all departments of the game.

Added to that, he feels a lack of ODI cricket for the Caribbean side doesn't make it any better.
Transcript
00:00Shane Deeds is a disappointed man after homeside India shellacked the West Indies by 211 runs
00:05in the opening ODI.
00:06The Windies women's coach said the team failed to execute its plans and paid the price for
00:11it.
00:12The idea was to try to get some early wickets, get them under pressure.
00:16We thought like 250 would be a real easy score to chase and there's like a massive dew out
00:21there now so if you're trying to bowl now it would have been quite difficult.
00:25So we wanted to get through the new ball because we knew that would do a bit, obviously run
00:29out first ball doesn't help.
00:30Besides batting and bowling, fielding is extremely important as it can determine the outcome
00:34in the end.
00:36And Deeds has also been unhappy with his players for failing in that department.
00:41We don't teach them to drop catches, we teach them to catch the catches.
00:44But in the heat of the moment we dropped some catches and they dropped one or two as well
00:50but if you send a team in you've got to take all your catches, get all your chances to
00:56put them under pressure.
00:57Obviously we didn't, everyone's watched cricket around the world enough to know.
01:01We work hard at training on our catching but you know sometimes you drop them in matches
01:06but we're going to do a lot better and all aspects of our game have got to improve.
01:11India will host the next 50 over World Cup in 2025 with teams having to qualify for it,
01:18such is also the case with West Indies and Deeds does not need any reminders.
01:22We haven't played one day in a national match for over six months so that showed today as
01:27well.
01:28I think being out in the field that long, we've had a lot of T20 cricket, the T20 World
01:31Cup.
01:32We had a good T20 World Cup, we made it to the semi-finals, we probably should have won
01:36that as well.
01:37So switching to ODI cricket, obviously the result says we haven't done a good job there.
01:43The second game of the three-match ODI series is on Tuesday from 4am TNT time as it's a
01:49day-night affair.
01:50Vinod Nawani, Tiffs Export.
