00:00Many Test matches have been ending in under 5 days. To be more precise, some 3 and others 4.
00:07But even big sides such as England have already tasted defeat in 2 days when playing India on the subcontinent a few years ago.
00:15As a result, questions come about such as, is Test cricket dying? Does it bother the experts that matches are ending so quickly?
00:24One individual who probably has no issues with the way things are running is former New Zealand cricketer turned commentator Simon Doole.
00:54Fans continue to support Test cricket in places such as Australia and India just to name a couple.
01:07Such is not the case in the West Indies where the stadiums are often close to a ghost town.
01:13Doole says it is all about promotion and performance.
01:24In the past, Test maces were presented after every cycle. But then came the World Test Championships which has gotten the thumbs up from Doole.
01:53He believes when teams such as Australia, England and India play a 5-match Test series, points from the first 3 Tests should count towards the World Test Championships.
02:04Regarding the other 2 Tests, they should continue as part of the ongoing Test series.
02:09Having said that, the 55-year-old is not pleased countries outside the Big 3 don't get to play too many Test matches.
02:17To keep it equal for everyone, I think all Test match series as part of the World Test Championship could be 3 Tests only.
02:23So then you can get a regular home in a way and it becomes equal with just 3 Test matches.
02:28Maybe that, I don't know whether that would work or not, it's just something I'm kind of thinking about on the spot a little bit here.
02:33But then it probably makes it a little more even across the board.
02:37Going back to the World Test Championships, Doole has no problem with the final being decided courtesy a one-off Test.
02:43Whereas in 2023, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma called for a 3-match final to decide the winner.
