Roston Chase says his return to West Indies Test cricket was in motion even before Daren Sammy's appointment as all-format head coach.

The 33-year-old Barbadian who will become the 38th man to captain the West Indies in Test cricket admitted that he initially chose to focus on white-ball cricket during his time away from the red-ball format.

He insists however that he has a renewed mindset and is ready to make his mark in the longest format once again.

00:00And being away from the Test Arena for a couple of years, it was, after being drunk, obviously, it was then a personal choice of mine to then really focus on my white ball career.
00:13So I was mainly in the T20 and the 50-over, so I was really concentrating on that.
00:19And before Sammy was appointed, the coach, the then coach, Andre Coley, had spoken to me about coming back, but I told him that I wasn't ready as yet because, as I said, I was focusing on getting myself out there in the white ball arena in terms of playing some franchise cricket and stuff.
