00:01Previously on Project Runway,
00:03we will be giving each of you $10,000
00:05to create 10-look collections.
00:07But only three of you are guaranteed a spot at Fashion Week.
00:11Oh, my God.
00:13Designers, this is the time to really bring it.
00:17These prints are smashing.
00:19Thanks.
00:20You were on a great course.
00:22And I'm crazy about it.
00:24I wanted my collection to be very earthy.
00:27You need to work hard and you need to work smart.
00:29Yes.
00:30I am underwhelmed by the colors.
00:33This palette is just going to be a snooze fest.
00:36You did not want it to look cohesive.
00:38I would get bored.
00:39You really do have three different collections here.
00:47Ayana, Brandon, you are moving forward to New York Fashion Week.
00:51Margarita, you are also moving to New York Fashion Week.
00:54Kentaro, Kenya, one of you will be out.
00:58Kentaro, congratulations.
00:59Kenya, I'm so sorry.
01:00You are out.
01:01I'm so sorry.
01:02You are out.
01:03The judge said it's resorty.
01:04I'm like, yeah, duh.
01:05That's me.
01:06You want my aesthetic?
01:07It's tropical.
01:08You can take the girl out of the traffic, but you can take the traffic out of the girl.
01:09You know what I mean?
01:10I've put my everything into Project Runway.
01:11I've put my everything into Project Runway.
01:13I mean, I quit my job.
01:14So, I'm putting everything on the line for a really big win.
01:15You know what I mean?
01:16I've put my everything into Project Runway.
01:17I mean, I quit my job.
01:18So, I'm putting everything on the line for a really big win.
01:25the judges said it's resorty I'm like yeah duh that's me you want my aesthetic
01:31it's tropical you can take the girl out of the traffic but you can't take the
01:34traffic out of the girl you know what I mean I've put my everything into Project
01:39Runway I mean I quit my job so I'm putting everything on the line for a
01:43really big win I feel good I feel like I did what I needed to back home I feel
01:50prepared I feel confident I'm ready to win the whole thing I'm ready I can't
01:57focus my mind somewhere else I'm thinking about Puerto Rico there's a
02:02massive hurricane on its way to hit the island and I'm scared hi Tim hi I'm here
02:11to check in with you all right Margarita first things first we're with you in
02:17spirit and with your family too and making only positive thoughts how are
02:21you feeling about all this mixed yeah it's like I have all this other stuff on my
02:26mind but then there's that it's a lot processing at the moment but on a lighter
02:31note your collection after that critique I feel confused the prints on that cusp of
02:39being hideous you have to make sure also that the whole thing doesn't look too
02:44tropical I'm from Puerto Rico my name is Margarita like this is a customer who
02:50would wear each and every one of these looks that's how I feel too and also like
02:55I stand by it right then I stand with you strongly okay carry on will do thank you
03:01Margarita thank you Ayana so what did you hear the judges say they kind of talked
03:08about me styling with the head wraps instead of just like a simple wrap like
03:12kind of like what I've been doing what are you going to do about the head wraps well
03:16I think they maybe want something that's a little bit more showy I'm very
03:20confident okay I feel good you should all right thank you
03:24Kentaro hi what did you hear the judges say it wasn't cohesive and you knew that
03:30yes and how are you responding to that so this is a top I made for this one and I
03:37brought it here to start this collection of black and white and sort of like I
03:43kind of wanted to do white at the end kind of sweeping that way everything I
03:47have done I was going to make something new to make it work well you still have a
03:52lot of fittings fitting is going to be okay all right yeah I don't want your
03:56company yeah Brandon how are you doing I'm doing good what did you take away from the
04:05judges critique get rid of the top for layers I do not care for this top it
04:10really jumps out because everything else is so crisp and this feels like a
04:14throwaway luck and I agreed you know I didn't think it was the most flattering
04:17and then I mean the rest I feel I feel good I feel confident it's just it's just
04:21really about this fitting getting them in here and I feel like I'll work my magic
04:26once there will you constantly do that's for sure thank you Brandon thank you all
04:33right designers my advice to each of you is the same stay on your path all right I
04:40will see you tomorrow all right thank you thank you thank you coming up on

07:16good and I'm just trying to make it look better Ayana's look is very cohesive I think this is what Tim
07:24wanted me to do then I didn't do it again I feel like I'm losing did your family make it out Margarita I
07:35don't know they didn't have power yesterday I mean the powers cut off it'll probably take like four months

15:47I want to be the next Carolina Herrera.
15:53I want to be the next Oscar de la Renta.
15:55Latin American designers are known to be really talented,
16:00and I just want to continue that legacy.
16:10I'm really, really happy that I didn't give up
16:13and that I came out guns blazing
16:15and showed up a fantastic collection
16:18that every single woman would want to wear.
16:20Put on a stroll.
16:22Thank you, that's what I wanted.
16:23And you did.
16:38Five minutes.
16:39Five minutes.
16:42I feel a little bit of everything.
16:43There's stress, there's nerves.
16:44I'm anxious, but I love it.
16:46I love to push myself,
16:48and this is what I meant to do,
16:49so I'm up for it.
16:56Thank you for coming.
16:57My name is Brandon Key.
16:58The collection is called Layers of Love,
17:00and I hope you enjoy.
17:01I feel like it shows variety.
17:25I got a wide range of ethnicity and girls and hairstyles,
17:29but I kept it natural and a bit minimum
17:31and let the clothes speak for themselves.
17:34It demonstrates so clearly
17:50that you can take a fairly limited range of materials
17:53and come up with something fresh and new
17:55with each and every look.
17:56Thank you, Tim.
18:08I really focused on the pieces individually each piece I wanted to be a standout piece but at the
18:37same time the juxtaposition of putting all those unique pieces in the same fabric to me
18:41just something about that's beautiful I think I have the winning collection
18:44I
18:49only have things to say hi everybody
19:07English not my first language so I get nervous because I'm not good at talking in front of people so
19:16they're kind of practice a little bit my special as Jenna jumping my collection was inspired by my
19:33Japanese culture and you're gonna see a lot of beautiful nature of Japan and also I
19:39composed and it played the music you will hear so I hope you will enjoy thank you so much
19:45music is very important because what I want to do most is conveying emotion throughout my show so if I
20:12make something emotional people is gonna be emotional
20:16this is the new piece oh you made that yesterday
20:35mm-hmm
20:42oh
20:44oh
20:50oh
20:52oh
20:54oh
20:56oh
21:28I don't feel like this is competition at this point.
21:37No pressure, no winning, no losing.
21:40The most important thing for me is being able to show something beautiful.
21:45And I did my best, no regret.
21:58Do not stop when you enter.
22:16All right, so let's move up.
22:17Let's move up.
22:18Good luck.
22:18Make me proud.
22:19Just months ago, I was just wishing I could show at New York Fashion Week.
22:23I remember people sharing on social media like, hey girl, one day, you know, that's going to be you.
22:28And like, today's that day.
22:34Hi, everybody.
22:36My collection is titled Evolution.
22:38It documents a personal journey of mine when I was at my lower point and just kind of pushing through and staying the course.
22:47And please enjoy.
23:18This is everything that I want in this moment.
23:36No, it's spectacular.
23:37It's not just really good.
23:38It's not just really good.
24:08I'm so proud of everything.
24:10I said I was going to do it, and I did it.
24:13And I'm just so happy that I was given this opportunity.
24:23Oh, my God.
24:34It is spectacular.
24:35I thought it was extraordinary.
24:56I mean, not that I only loved to see all the designers express themselves, but for me, the most heartwarming part was seeing women of all sizes.
25:06I love you.
25:06I think one of my favorite moments was actually when the model took offers around and walked the bathing suit all the way up.
25:12Fabulous.
25:13Margaritas really took it away.
25:15Everything moved beautifully on body.
25:18So vibrant, so dynamic.
25:20Flew me away.
25:21I'm going to cry.
25:22I loved Ayana, so powerful and dynamic.
25:26A really modern representation of women and Islam today.
25:31I love you.
25:32I loved all the flamingo prints.
25:35It was a lot, but individually, each piece I would 100% wear.
25:39Oh, my parents.
25:40Oh, my God.
25:41I love parents.
25:42Oh, my God.
25:47That was a great show.
25:55Incredible.
25:56All right, let's bring out our designers.
25:59Yay!
26:04How amazing was today?
26:06It was awesome.
26:08It was good.
26:09I'm so happy.
26:11I feel a little bit emotional.
26:16All right, let's say hello to our judges.
26:19First, we have creative director of Brooks Brothers Women and fashion designer, Zach Posen.
26:23Hi, designers.
26:24You did such a spectacular job today.
26:27I think each of you brought something really personable.
26:30Bravo.
26:31Creative director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
26:34Congratulations, team.
26:36I feel very proud of each and every one of you.
26:40And our guest judge for today, actress and founder of The Honest Company, Jessica Alba.
26:46Hi, everyone.
26:47Your individuality really just shined.
26:51And also being able to elevate it and celebrate women of all sizes.
26:55It was really cool.
26:57Before we decide who will be the winner of Project Runway Season 16, we have some questions for you.
27:04Ayana, let's bring out your models.
27:07Wow.
27:09Ayana, tell us about your inspiration and your collection.
27:11I wanted it to be a very emotional, kind of a moody type of show.
27:16And so I mix with a lot of the ruffles that I like to do, distressing of denim, dyeing fabrics, and also incorporate the modesty aspect of my designs.
27:27What you have in front of us is absolutely stunning.
27:30This gown really brought the drama today.
27:33I mean, it was stunning, breathtaking.
27:35You looked so beautiful in this dress.
27:38You convinced me that there's a way to dress in forms of modesty, in respect to one's religious background, and still be hip and seductive.
27:48And I think you're representing a whole community around the world beautifully.
27:51And I'm beyond proud of you.
27:53I love your collection.
27:56I wish I would have seen a little color, but I am incredibly impressed.
28:02You had the athletic wear, then you had a kind of street wear, and then this very precious finale.
28:10So that is not an easy feat with just ten pieces.
28:15The tailoring was beautiful.
28:17You showed a little ankle and a little wrist here and there.
28:19It was very subtle, but it was sensual.
28:21It took my breath away.
28:23It's gorgeous.
28:25Margarita, tell us about your collection.
28:27Well, my inspiration came from my culture, and I thought, what better way of making a collection to design my own print and kind of show the world who I am.
28:36Your collection had so much energy, passion, color.
28:41It was really spectacular.
28:44It was joyous.
28:45I think this is clothing that could be bought.
28:48It could even be its own little boutique in itself.
28:50Well, I'm very proud of you.
28:52I thought you were very smart when you picked your model to have a moment on the runway.
28:58We heard this incredible applause, and people were so exhilarated and happy to see that.
29:03I think it was a very important moment in fashion, too, right?
29:07That just said it all.
29:08Yeah.
29:08You killed my girlfriend.
29:10Kintaro, tell us about your collection.
29:12My whole collection was about story, music, sound, feeling, and Japanese culture.
29:20Kudos to you.
29:21I knew you had it in you, but I think you surprised us all.
29:25The first look was incredibly dramatic, and the line continued.
29:32You went from that black and white into the nude, and then all of a sudden surprised us with that shock of the color.
29:41Camellia red.
29:41What a red.
29:42I totally agree with Nina.
29:44I had one piece, the second red dress.
29:47To me, it's like that strike of red.
29:50Could have been just one note of the music, and then to the next.
29:54I didn't mind it.
29:55I loved it.
29:55I loved it, too, because there's so many different silhouettes that just came coming, and you're like, wow, exciting, wow.
30:01I just had trouble with the two next to each other.
30:04I was eating it up from the beginning to the end.
30:06You blew my socks off today.
30:08Just the evolution of texture and color and experimentation.
30:14Really excellent, excellent collection.
30:17Like nothing we've ever seen on the show.
30:20Brandon, tell us about your collection.
30:22I call this collection Layers of Love, and it was inspired by my girlfriend, Dina.
30:26So I found this home furnishing fabric, and it was like a sunshade patio furniture that I was able to like dye and then get like this ombre effect, and I loved it.
30:37Your first look was one of my favorites for sure, and then you had this long sleeve with all the ties.
30:44I felt like it was something that, you know, lots of girls who want to bring that like cool street wear, but then also wanted that femininity.
30:51You brought it to life.
30:53It's flirty.
30:53There's romanticism.
30:54Yeah, it was romantic, but it was like cool.
30:57Cool romantic.
30:57Cool girl.
30:58For me, it was a very strong collection.
31:00I think you're incredibly talented, but in terms of a presentation of a runway show, it was a little bit more challenging just because I really was missing variation of fabrication, and I started to not have the same kind of excitement about your experimentation with shape.
31:18I do have to agree with Zach, because I do love your collection, but everything is in the same fabric.
31:24Either you need to give us like a solid, or you have to flip-flop the fabric so that something else happens.
31:31My favorite designers, like when I see their 60 look collections, it's like 10 looks, all the same fabrication, and 10 more looks, like it switches.
31:38And that's just my kind of personal taste.
31:40With 10 looks, you have to present a show that is interesting and cohesive, but yet different, and that's very hard to do.
31:48But the one thing I do have to say is that you have signature details that we know the clothes are yours.
31:56The oversized loops, the oversized loops, the bands, these proportions, that's Brandon, and I do think that is very important.
32:06All in all, I think you have been an incredibly gifted designer that have given all of your peers a run for their money, and still are.
32:18Lyrus, how did you feel on the runway today?
32:19As a plus model, we don't get many opportunities to actually be at New York Fashion Week, so I value every walk down that runway very much.
32:30Well, I think things are all about to change.
32:33You're leading the way.
32:34Yes.
32:34You're representing.
32:35Oh, gosh.
32:35It's really powerful.
32:37This is something that my community has wanted for a very long time.
32:42This model diversity moment means so much, and I thank you all for being the catalyst for change.
32:49Thank you, Lyrus.
32:50Thanks.
32:51Thank you, Brandon.
32:53Thank you, models.
32:54You can leave the runway.
32:59Ayana, why should you be the winner of Project Runway?
33:02My intention is to be an industry leader for the modest market, and I really feel very ready to take that on, and winning Project Runway would make all of that a reality for me.
33:13Margarita.
33:14I believe I have a bit of an edge business-wise, so I believe I could give the greatest return on your investment, and I believe I could really create a long-term career with this head start.
33:29Kentaro.
33:29I think winning Project Runway will give me more chances to talk about my stories, and I want to share my stories with a lot of people.
33:39And Brandon.
33:40I kind of got an interesting perspective and point of view, and I am very certain of the clothes I want to make, and this obviously would be a huge help in launching my brand, and I just feel it's time.
33:52I feel I'm ready.
33:53Okay.
33:54We've heard what you had to say.
33:56We have a big decision to make.
33:58And then we will determine who will be the winner of Project Runway.
34:02Now you can leave the runway.
34:06The winner of Project Runway will receive the opportunity to collaborate with JCPenney on a limited edition capsule collection as part of the Project Runway line sold at select JCPenney stores and online.
34:21A selection of brothers sewing and embroidering machines with a retail value of $40,000.
34:27Makeup and beauty products for a year, courtesy of Avon.
34:30The new 2018 Lexus NX coming this fall with advanced innovation and safety system standard.
34:36From the Pilot FriXion Erasable Pen, the official pen of Project Runway, a lifetime supply of pens in an all-expense-paid luxury trip to Japan, including a five-star stay near Japan's fashion center.
34:47$100,000 to launch their line.
34:49And the winning designer and model will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
34:54Wow, you guys, we have a very big decision to make today.
34:58It was a fabulous runway show.
35:00They each had a different strong voice, and I think they all executed their vision to the best I've seen yet on the show.
35:07I'm pretty blown away.
35:08Our four finalists, I have to say, they're really close.
35:13Well, they all have something individual.
35:15Which makes things not easier.
35:17I wish we could give it to them all.
35:19How do you choose?
35:20It's hard.
35:21It's hard.
35:23All right, so we made our decision.
35:28Are we sure?
35:30We're sure.
35:30Okay, let's bring them back out.
35:38Well, all of you put on a great show, but as you know, only one of you will be the winner of Project Runway Season 16.
35:51Designers, the collection that you showed us for New York Fashion Week blew us away.
35:56We're very, very proud.
35:58Margarita, from beginning to end, your collection was 100% you.
36:03You also truly embraced your model's curves and celebrated each woman individually.
36:10Margarita, I'm sorry you're out.
36:16But you did a fantastic job.
36:18Thank you for the opportunity.
36:21Auf Wiedersehen.
36:25Having shown at New York Fashion Week, I can say I'm super proud of what I've done.
36:30But I'm kind of bummed because I did think for a quick minute that I could possibly win.
36:37Hi, guys.
36:40Surprise.

37:27Thank you so much.
37:27Thank you for the opportunity.
37:28I appreciate it, guys.
37:30I appreciate it.
37:31It hurts.
37:35I thought I had it.
37:42I guess I really wanted it, you know?
37:53I accomplished one goal for sure, and that was to show my women's wear, New York Fashion
38:05Week, so I've got to pat myself on the back for that one.
38:08I'm so proud of you.
38:10I'm so proud of you.
38:10I'm sorry.
38:12You should be so proud of yourself.
38:17No.
38:23Ayana, your collection had a great rhythm, and it finished beautifully.
38:28Your finale dress was one of the most breathtaking looks that we've ever seen.
38:35Kantaro, you really surprised us today.
38:39We love the emotion and the unexpected designs that you created.
38:43And your clothes, they really stood up for themselves.
38:47Ayana, Kantaro, one of you will be the winner of Project Runway Season 16.
39:05Thank you so much.
39:13Ayana, I'm so sorry.
39:21means you're out. Thank you so much. It's very tough. You did a great job. Thank you, Heidi.
39:27Thank you. Congratulations.
39:34Overall, I'm really, really happy with everything, and I feel like I did my absolute best. Whoa,
39:42I didn't win. Man, I was close. Just a couple months ago, Project Runway was just a dream for me,
39:51and not only did I make it on, but I made it so far. I mean, I was right there. I'm happy. I'm
39:58grateful for all of this. I have to come up there and give our winner a hug. Congratulations.
40:11Yay, I just won a Project Runway. At the end, I decided to take a risk. The end I won,
40:17is I cannot believe it. Kintara, I am unbelievably proud of you. Today, you knocked it out of the park.
40:25Congratulations. Thank you. Throughout all these weeks, I have seen you really work hard,
40:32be very determined, and then finally surprises. Congratulations. Thank you. I am just thrilled to
40:40see such a talent come to life, and how you express yourself. It's really beautiful.
40:46I mean, you've been great throughout the whole season, but today, you really showed what an artist
40:50you truly are. Thank you. Well, there are some people here that want
40:54to come out and congratulate you. So, come on out, guys. Bye.
41:01Are you okay? Oh, no. Come around. Don't go down here. Come here.
41:06Are you okay? I can't believe it. I can't believe it. It was beautiful. Yeah, that's good.
41:16Winning Project Runway is like a dream come true. Probably, I'm going to have a little more
41:22opportunity, but I'll just keep myself humble and work hard and do my best.
41:27A version of my winning collection will be available in select JCPenney's Tours immediately
41:35following the show. Next time on Project Runway. Welcome to the Project Runway Season 16 Reunion Special.
41:47All 16 designers reunite. Clear up some issues. Why would you bring something that was against the
41:52rules? Come on, things happen. Voice their opinions. I thought it was
41:57completely inhumane. It's called integrity. And settle their disputes once and for all.
42:02I don't think you're telling the truth. That entire situation for me was a blur.
42:07You know the truth. You either tell the truth or you don't.
