It's budget-cutting time at CONTROL and 99, who has less seniority, is temporarily laid off. Rather than be idle, she manages to find a job at a stamp redemption center (the late 1960s was the heyday of S & H Green Stamps). However, the redemption center is a KAOS munitions depot that CONTROL has been actively looking for. With most of the CONTROL agents away from town on a false lead, KAOS uses the opportunity to distribute its new weapon to its agents: a stereophonic gun (two guns mounted left-right on a common trigger base). Will 99 be able to alert CONTROL in time?

00:00Drop it.
00:30Over budget or no over budget, I can't afford to lay off five agents.
00:39There must be some mistake.
00:40Sorry, Chief, but you know this computer, it doesn't make mistakes.
00:43Oh, then why did it pick Egypt over Israel in the Six-Day War?
00:46Who didn't?
00:47I need every available man I can get to find Chaos' munitions depot.
00:51Let me see that layoff list again.
00:55Agent 42, 54, 71, 99, 20...
00:5999? Why 99?
01:01It's based on seniority, Chief.
01:03Those are the five agents who have been with us the shortest amount of time.
01:06That's a terrible thing to happen.
01:08Max and 99 just got married and they bought all new furniture.
01:11How are they going to pay for it?
01:12She can work as a babysitter like my wife does, Chief.
01:14She makes 50 or 60 a week babysitting. It works out great.
01:17Your wife sits every day?
01:19No, only at night.
01:20Then when do you see her?
01:21I don't. I told you, it works out great.
01:24Oh, I've got to get this over with her. I'll never be able to sleep tonight.
01:27Get 99 on the phone for me.
01:29I can't, Chief. She's out on the case with Max.
01:31Well, that's even better. I'll let Max tell her.
01:32Get Max on the shoe phone for me.
01:34Right, Chief.
01:35Are you going to kill me?
01:36I have orders not to take any control agents alive.
01:40All right, fella. Hold it right there.
01:42Now drop that gun before I let you have it.
01:45You drop your gun or I'll let her have it.
01:47You drop your gun or I'll let you have it before you can let her have it.
01:51Suppose I let her have it before you let me have it.
01:55Then it'll do you no good to let me have it once she's already had it, right?
01:58Eh, could we take that again from the top?
02:02Just drop your gun and come down here.
02:09Your shoe's ringing.
02:10Hello, Maxwell Smart here.
02:20Oh, hi, Chief.
02:21Eh, wait a minute. I'll find out.
02:23Can I talk?
02:26It's okay, Chief. I can talk.
02:28Oh, really?
02:29That's great.
02:30Oh, when did that happen?
02:32Don't be silly. Of course I'm not upset. I'm delighted.
02:36Eh, I'll explain when I see you.
02:38Eh, if I see you.
02:41What do I mean by if I see you?
02:43Yes, well, I'll explain that when I see you, Chief.
02:46Goodbye.
02:47What was that all about, Max?
02:48Great news, 99.
02:49There's been a cutback at control and you're no longer a control agent.
02:52Well, why's that good news?
02:54Because if you're no longer a control agent, then he has no reason to kill you.
02:57You're still a control agent.
02:59Eh, yes, but I was thinking of quitting.
03:01No matter. I'm going to kill you both anyway.
03:03Before you do, I have one last request.
03:06Yeah, what's that?
03:06May I have a kiss?
03:07Well, certainly, 99.
03:09No, Max. Him.
03:11Him?
03:13Well, okay.
03:17You mean you want to kiss me?
03:19Yes.
03:20What kind of last request is that?
03:22Well, I don't smoke.
03:23Why not?
03:32Max!
03:32You shouldn't have taken a chance like that.
03:34He could have shot you.
03:35Well, you didn't think I was going to stand around here and watch him kiss you.
03:38Oh, Max, I'm wearing my knockout lipstick.
03:41The minute he kissed me, he would have fallen unconscious.
03:43Oh, well, why didn't you say so?
03:45Well, I thought you could tell from my strange request.
03:47You don't think I'd kiss another man, do you?
03:50No, I guess not, 99.
03:52I'm sorry.
03:53Oh.
03:53Oh.
03:54Yeah.
03:54Yeah.
04:11Yeah.
05:41It's been with us for six years.
05:43Why don't you trust it?
05:44Because it's the same computer that gave us an A1 rating on you when we tested you for
05:48control.
05:49Oh.
05:50Now, when we searched that Chaos agent that you captured last night, we found a key
05:55to a locker at the airport, and inside of that locker we found this box.
05:59What do you think that is?
06:01Brown wrapping paper.
06:02Oh, Max.
06:03I'm talking about this.
06:05Do you know what this is?
06:07Sure.
06:08It's a 12-shooter.
06:09Max, it's Chaos's new secret weapon.
06:12It's a stereophonic pistol.
06:15A stereophonic pistol?
06:18That's fantastic, Chief.
06:20You mean you can shoot a bullet from this barrel, and you can shoot a bullet from this barrel,
06:25and if you stand in between, it's just like being there in person.
06:28Something like that.
06:29Does it also shoot Manoro?
06:31Max, if Chaos succeeds in arming their agents with that pistol, they'll be able to out-shoot
06:36us two to one.
06:37Not only that, but it'll sound better.
06:39So far, they've only been able to arm four or five of their agents, but we've gotten word
06:43that a big shipment is coming in any day now.
06:45Now, what we have to do is find out where Chaos is going to hide these guns, and how they
06:49intend to distribute them to their agents.
06:52What do you want me to do, Chief?
06:53Well, with this cutback in personnel, we're all going to have to double up on our surveillance.
06:57Now, we've got to cover every single possible place in town.
07:01Okay, Chief, you can count on me.
07:03I'll be up first thing in the morning, and I'll check out every topless restaurant in town.
07:08Max, Chaos wouldn't hide guns in a topless restaurant.
07:12They wouldn't?
07:12No.
07:13Well, where would they store them?
07:15I don't know.
07:16Oh, well, in that case, I'll check the topless restaurants.
07:19Oh, Max, I did it again.
07:44I'm so sorry.
07:46Oh, that's my reflex from being an agent.
07:48Agent, you really mustn't sneak up behind me like that, Max.
07:52Come on, dear.
07:53I'll get you some coffee.
07:55Max.
07:56Never mind about the coffee, 99.
07:57Never mind about the coffee.
07:58I don't need any coffee.
07:59I have a nice full day ahead of me, and I have to be going now.
08:02Max, the Chief called.
08:03He wants you to check out the Waterfront District right away.
08:05Oh.
08:06Well, what about all those other places I was supposed to check out today?
08:08He said he checked them out last night.
08:12Okay.
08:12I'll see you later.
08:13Okay.
08:16What's that?
08:16These are the want ads.
08:18I'm looking for a job.
08:19Oh.
08:20Well, good luck.
08:22Bye.
08:23I'm terribly sorry.
08:35Bye.
08:58Bye.
09:03Well, I see you last worked.
09:05as an airline stewardess. That's right. What was your reason for leaving? I got married. Oh,
09:11and the airlines wouldn't let you fly anymore? No, my husband wouldn't. He's an airplane mechanic.
09:18Well, Mrs. Smart, you have an excellent employment record, but I'm just wondering if you'd really
09:24enjoy working here. Oh, I'm sure I would. I like a job where you come in contact with people.
09:29Oh, well, I'll just take this back and get Mr. Marco the approval. If I do get the job,
09:34when would I start? Could you start immediately? I don't see any reason why not.
09:42Open that one.
09:52Excellent. Excellent. Stack them over there.
10:04Yes? Marco, I think we found a new sales girl.
10:16Mrs. Maxwell Smart? Oh, yes, that's her name. Why? She's a control agent. So is her husband. Do you think
10:22she's here undercover? I don't know. Control is having economic problems. She's one of five agents
10:26they just let go. Well, we can't afford to take any chances. I'll get rid of her. No, hire her instead.
10:34Do you think that's wise? Brilliant. With her working here, we'll be able to monitor all phone calls
10:40with her husband. We can find out if control suspects that this is the chaos munitions depot. And if they
10:45do? Then they may find a few guns. But they'll never find Mrs. Smart.
11:01Yes, that's the corn popper. That's four books, please. 217, please.
11:08Yes. Can I help you?
11:09I'd like one of these, please.
11:11The George Wallace poster? That's one book. No, you gave me two books. The Wallace poster's
11:17only one book. Yes, but I also like a set of darts. Oh, of course. 349 and 216, please.
11:28Here we go. That's a dollar five tax. How are we doing, Mrs. Smart? Oh, just fine, thank you. I wonder
11:35if you'd mind if I called my husband. He doesn't know I got the job and I don't want him to be worried.
11:39Oh, certainly. Go right ahead. Thank you.
11:52Hello? Hello, Max. I'm glad I found you in. Oh, 99. I'm glad you called. I was just about to leave.
11:57Where are you? I got a job. I'm working at the Night Stamp Redemption Center. Oh, that's great.
12:03Listen, honey, I may be home late for dinner tonight, but don't worry. We got a tip on the
12:07whereabouts at the Chaos Munitions Depot. Oh, that's wonderful, Max. Where is it?
12:11Well, I'm not for better to tell you, 99, but according to this tip, we think that Chaos is
12:16using an old silo on an abandoned farm about 45 miles out in the country. Be careful, Max.
12:22Don't worry, 99. This is an all-out control raid. Every available agent in Washington will be in on
12:28this. I'll see you later.
12:35It's the moment we've been waiting for. Control is often a wild goose chase, and it's the perfect
12:39opportunity to start our big push. Dimitri, notify every one of our agents to report here
12:46immediately to pick up arms. They're to ask for item 949, the electric toaster.
12:52The moment we have waited for has finally come. Chaos is ready to launch its armed revolution.
12:58We'll storm Congress. We'll attack the Capitol. And wipe out the Pentagon.
13:04But make sure when they pick up their weapons that they pay the sales tax. We don't want any
13:08trouble with the government.
13:09I'll have a 949. 949, please. 949, please. Give me a 949. 949, please.
13:32Here we are. I don't understand this. Everyone who comes in here is asking for 949. Why such a
13:45rush on toasters? I don't know. Just keep working. Well, I'm sure we're going to run out. Do
13:49we have enough in stock? I'll check. You take over for me, okay? 949, please. You too?
13:55Mark. What are you doing here now? She's starting to ask questions. I think she's beginning
14:04to get suspicious. But we've got to move faster. 949. 949, please.
14:204-949, please.
14:244-949, please.
14:28Come on.
14:45549, please.
14:54949, please.
14:584-949, please.
15:05Sonia, we better get back out there and watch her closely.
15:27How are you doing, dear?
15:29Oh, I'm so glad you're back.
15:31I'm absolutely exhausted.
15:32I wonder if you'd do me a favor.
15:33Could you take over here while I go back and freshen up a little bit?
15:4799 calling control, 99 calling control.
15:5099, how nice to hear from you.
15:52Tell me, what are you doing with yourself?
15:53Chief, I've taken a job, and the place...
15:55Max told me you were going to work.
15:56That's a wise thing, 99.
15:58It'll keep you occupied.
15:59Listen, Chief, I can only talk for a minute.
16:00I think I've stumbled onto the Chaos Munitions Depot.
16:03What?
16:04Where?
16:04At the place where I'm working.
16:06Well, what's the name of the place?
16:07It's on 4th and Vermont.
16:09It's called 9...
16:1099!
16:16Did you want to see me, Chief?
16:18Yes, 99 has discovered the location of the Chaos Munitions Depot.
16:21But before she could tell me more, the line went dead.
16:23No kidding.
16:24So what do you want to see me about, Chief?
16:26Well, Larrabee, we've got to find out where 99 is working.
16:28That's where the Chaos Munitions Depot is.
16:30Did she say anything that could give us a clue?
16:32All she had time to tell me was that it was on 4th and Vermont.
16:354th and Vermont?
16:36I know that area, Chief.
16:37There's a gas station, a jewelry store, a delicatessen.
16:41That's it, Chief.
16:42It must be the delicatessen.
16:43Larrabee, why would they use a delicatessen for a munitions depot?
16:46And if they did, how would they get the guns to their agents?
16:49I know that delicatessen, Chief.
16:51They deliver.
16:52We've got to contact Max immediately.
16:54He'll know where 99 is working.
16:56Get him on the shoe phone for me right away.
16:58Right, Chief.
17:02Hello?
17:02Hi, Chief.
17:03This is Max.
17:06Oh, Max, thank goodness you called.
17:09Now, Chief, we've located the silo.
17:11Max, forget about the silo.
17:12Just tell me where 99 is working.
17:14She's working at the Night Stamp Redemption Center on Vermont.
17:18We've got the farm surrounded, Chief.
17:20Max, forget about the farm.
17:21Just get back to town as soon as you can
17:23and meet us at Night Stamp Redemption Center.
17:25Right, Chief.
17:26As soon as we execute, plan B.
17:29Max, you're working on a false lead.
17:3199 has inadvertently discovered
17:33that the Night Stamp Redemption Center
17:34is a chaos munitions depot.
17:36So forget about plan B.
17:37Don't blow up that silo.
17:39I wish you'd told me that before, Chief.
17:41Why?
17:44That's why.
17:46Hurry back, Max.
17:52I tried to get Max, Chief,
17:53but the shoe phone was busy.
17:54Well, it was busy because he was calling us.
17:56You were just talking to him?
17:57Yes.
17:58Well, no wonder.
17:59I tried to get you to tell you that Max's line was busy,
18:01but your line was busy.
18:02Max is going to meet us at the Stamp Redemption Center,
18:04but we'd better get there right away to try to save 99.
18:07Right, Chief.
18:08Now, we'd better stop by Wardrobe and pick up some disguises.
18:10Well, what for?
18:12Larrabee, every chaos agent in Washington
18:13will be going in and coming out of the Redemption Center.
18:16They're sure to recognize us.
18:17Oh, really?
18:18Really?
18:18Really?
18:18Really?
18:18Really?
18:18Really?
18:20Really?
18:20Really?
18:229-4-9, please.
18:39I'd be like a darn fool standing in a dress like this.
18:42I'm sorry, Chief,
18:42but the only thing they had left in Wardrobe
18:44was that dress and a miniskirt.
18:459-4-9, please.
18:46Well, you're not wearing a miniskirt.
18:47Of course I'm not.
18:48This happens to be my own dress.
18:51Larrabee, is there something about you I don't know?
18:53I kept this as a souvenir.
18:55I played Charlie's aunt in college.
18:589-4-9, please.
18:59That's the 11th person who has asked for a 9-4-9
19:02since we've been standing here.
19:03Obviously, they're distributing the guns and toaster cartons.
19:06I don't see any sign of 99.
19:08Well, they probably got her hidden in the back.
19:12As soon as we get to the counter, I'll make our move.
19:14Next.
19:14A 9-4-9, please.
19:18The electric toaster.
19:20Did you say 9-4-9?
19:22That's right.
19:32The last of our agents just left.
19:34I'll close up and lock the front door.
19:36Excellent.
19:37Our task is completed.
19:39And now I see no need to keep these three alive anymore.
19:43Hello, anybody here?
19:44It's Maxwell Smart.
19:55Hello, anybody here?
19:57If we don't answer, maybe he'll go away.
19:59We can't take a chance in arousing his suspicions.
20:01You go out there and tell him his wife left here 15 minutes ago.
20:04I'll keep you covered.
20:08Oh, I'm sorry, but we're closing for the night.
20:12Oh, yes.
20:13Well, you see, my wife works here, and I was supposed to pick her up and take her home.
20:17You must be Mr. Smart.
20:19Yes, that's right.
20:20Oh, well, your wife finished work and left for home about 15 minutes ago.
20:23What the fuck?
20:37What's that?
20:38Oh, that's a conveyor belt.
20:40Max!
20:41My wife's on it.
20:44My wife's on it?
20:48Max!
20:48Ninety-nine.
20:50This is no time to be surfing.
20:52Max, the chief and Larrabee are tied up in back.
20:54No, you can't go back there.
21:02All right, drop it.
21:03Be careful, Max.
21:03There's another agent in here somewhere.
21:05Don't worry, chief.
21:06I'll get him.
21:06Hold it, Mr. Smart.
21:15Drop the gun.
21:16Good, good, Max.
21:40Good.
21:43Not good, Max.
21:44Not good.
21:45Not good.
21:46That a boy.
22:15That a boy.
22:15You got him.
22:30You got him, Max.
22:30How did you know?
22:31No.
22:31That's enough, Mr. Smart.
22:50You will now have the honor of being the first recipient of two bullets from Chaos's new stereophonic pistol.
22:56It was Japanese.
23:09When we specified stereophonic, they took us literally.
23:14That means every chaos agent in Washington is armed with a radio.
23:18All right, Marco.
23:19Don't try to escape.
23:20This building is completely surrounded by control agents.
23:26Ninety-nine, you're going to get a commendation for this.
23:28I don't care what the computer says.
23:29You're going back to work.
23:30Thank you, chief.
23:31Okay, chief.
23:33I'll untie you first.
23:34Then you, 99.
23:35Chief, I don't understand how you ever thought you could fool anybody with a ridiculous disguise like this.
23:41I'll get to you in a moment, lady.
23:43I'll get to you in a moment, lady.
24:13I'll get to you in a moment, lady.
