04:23The transition from primary to secondary school is second to none.
04:28You know, it will be remiss of me not to congratulate and salute the teachers who have gone beyond the call of duty in preparing these children for SEA.
04:38It is not easy.
04:39You know, the trauma and getting the psyche and preparing a child to sit down and really focus.
04:44You know, and parents also play a pivotal role.
04:49You know, so I want to thank parents who have been there supporting the child, you know, championing, clapping them, applauding them, telling them well done.
04:56You know, and let them know that you love them, you care for them.
04:59And once they put their best foot forward, you know, you have to be there for them.
05:03And the SEA is there.
05:06We have discussed over and over that it needs to be changes and need to upgrade.
05:10However, this is where we are at and we need to prepare our children for the world of work and for education and empowerment.
05:18And all that requires to become a next Mr. Basant and a next Commissioner of Police and a next, you follow?
05:25Yes.
05:25And teachers, I don't know, after police, you have to salute teachers, boy.
05:30They're the best thing after sliced bread.
05:31Teachers have really done justice simply.
05:34You know, teachers need a day to be applauded for doing remarkable work with our nation.
05:40Despite all the crime and all the toxic environment, you would be amazed to see where schools are located and teachers come out every day, you know, religiously,
05:50dedicating their service to teach these students and they must be applauded, you know.
05:55And I want to salute them and the police is here to work in concert with them
05:59and ensure that they have a safe and environment that is conducive for the children learning.

06:06And, you know, as I said, congratulations to all those students that sat the SEA exams yesterday.
06:12And also, we also have, just in two days' time, the end of the state of emergency.
06:17And I know you probably want to just make a comment or two on that.
06:20Yeah, well, we know that it is common knowledge that there is no extension and it is understood that the government has already established that on Sunday is the final SEA, the safe emergency.
06:35You see, all S's.
06:37But the fight continues.
06:40The fight continues.
06:41And we wanted to give the members of the public the assurance that the information and the data and all the, you know, intelligence that has been supplied.
06:50Because they have done good work.
06:51It's a 30% reduction.

06:57But we have to applaud the police service, members of the Defence Force, and members of the public who did justice in terms of addressing the question of the gang.

07:21They know fully well that the SOE was targeted a particular group.
07:26And because of the information that the police would have obtained, absorbed, we feel that that is a necessity in terms of putting, you know, you have a domestic store.

07:44We want to make sure and take that now to a ring stove level where we're telling the criminals that, you know, it's either you get your act together or you will be arrested and charged because you are not a member of this country.

08:04And we thank the members of the public, the people who quietly are providing information.
08:09We must applaud them.
08:11And when we say all hands on deck, we're talking about good hands.

08:18You know, we cannot take a bow just like that.
08:20It has to be a collective effort.
08:22And we want to salute all those who have made a contribution in terms of ensuring that we have a 30%.

08:31You can't eliminate crime, but you can bring crime to a level where it can be managed.

08:36And people can feel a sense of safety.
08:39And that's our mantra.

08:41And we intend to do it.

09:49So, we have a couple days left, but I'm seeing that firearms category inching to the 200.
09:55Hopeful that the commissioner was saying that it gets over that 200 mark before the end of the SOE.
10:01We continue, I think we need to applaud Crime Stoppers, because Crime Stoppers, they play a pivotal role in providing incentives.
10:09And we need to, you know, we need to recognize the corporate TNT that has come on board to say,
10:14let's get the guns out of the streets, let's get them out of the community, let's get them out of the hands of the youth.
10:19And there's one way is to provide incentives.
10:21So, we need to also salute Crime Stoppers for that excellent initiative in terms of getting rid of firearms
10:28and allowing people to share information, good information, that will allow policemen to come and make an arrest
10:36and to make our country S-A-F-E.
10:40Everybody wants to be safe.
10:41Yes, definitely.
10:43Safety is paramount.
10:44All right, let's take a quick look at our headlines.

11:27And we definitely, you know, look at the headlines there, you're finding, you know, firearms, ammunition,
11:35and as well as narcotics, you know, and it's really an ongoing job by the police service to obviously do what they're doing.
11:45And at the magnitude of how they continue these operations.
11:50Yeah, and when you would have looked at the amount of drugs, that almost 2 million grams of marijuana,
11:594,000 firearms, that was going in the hands of the community and the hands of so-called gang leaders to continue to run the business.
12:07And once you deprive them, you strap them of that, then you understand you strap them of the growth and, you know, expanding,
12:16because that is what it is, the drugs and the money and et cetera.
12:19And it is good that the media can be provided with these figures so that the public looking on can say,
12:27hey, the police has done an excellent work in the SOE.
12:30The SOE has provided good evidence, good information, you know, and as a result of that,
12:37we know that the police officers will continue to take the fight to the criminal element.
12:41It's a fight that we must win.
12:42But this is not a case where it's a lima side and a referee and tools.
12:47That is not the case at all.
12:48The goalposts keep moving and we have to understand the importance of taking the fight for a safer community and a safer Trinnebago.

16:32And, you know, two murders overnight.
16:35One in the Pity Valley area and the other in the Santa Cruz area.
16:39This is the victims of, I guess, gun violence again.
16:45And I think the homicide count is now at about 106 for the year.
16:52It's certainly one too many, and it's not where we want to be.
16:56It's considerably lower than last year.
16:58And as you said, the SOE has something to do with that.
17:03But, you know, one of the killings are apparently, there was just a killing.
17:07There are two days, two nights ago in the Sparrow Drive area in Dergo Mountain.
17:11In that area there.
17:13So it seems that something is happening in that area there that police will have to put a handle on.
17:18Yeah.
17:19I know Simeon Road very well.
17:21I know the elements.
17:22Simeon Road, they are decent law-abiding citizens of Simeon Road.
17:27I know that children from Simeon Road attend my police club.
17:30There's a lot of culture dancing, you know.
17:32But we know we have the mischief people who want to cause mischief effort.
17:37And we know that we have the drug activities.
17:39And sometimes you appeal to people and some will move away and some, unfortunately, you know, they make up their mind.
17:45You know, and that is the unfortunate consequences of living a particular lifestyle.
17:50You have those who would have stopped.
17:51You have those who would have pulled back.
17:53And you have those who, unfortunately, will have to die at the hands of the gun.
17:57The problem is, is that the innocent pain for the guilty is, you know, something that we, you know, we frown on.
18:03Because these fellows and them, they're looking for what they call soft targets.
18:07Yes.
18:07You know, and sometimes they don't get at you to make your partner example, to make your cousin example, which has absolutely nothing to do.
18:15But when you connect the dots, you realize that soft targets.
18:19But we want to appeal to the residents of Simeon Road, Pity Valley.
18:25You know, stand firm, stand strong.
18:27You know, it is a beautiful community.
18:29It's a community I've known for a long time.
18:32Don't be despair.
18:32Continue to promote your culture and dance and dramology.
18:37But at the same time, make sure that your children are safe.
18:40Make sure they're at home.
18:41Make sure they're not on the block.
18:42You understand what's going on in a particular area.
18:46And therefore, it requires you a level of wisdom.
18:48And you have to be a little bit tactful in terms of the unfortunate experience and exchange that took place within the last, what, week?
18:58Simeon Road, certainly.
18:59And I'm sure that the senior superintendent, Mr. Williams, along with Four Roots Police Station, which has the responsibility, will be taking a special look at Simeon Road and getting the level of intelligence to break and to snap whatever trend that you see emerging in that area.

19:20You know, on a very upbeat note, of course, I know that there's something happening with the police museum.
19:26You would like to enlighten us on.
19:28Yes, we feel that art is an excellent platform.
19:33It's a nice skill.

19:35And we have been doing it before.
19:37But just for this particular reason, the police museum will add the exhibition.
19:42And they're appealing to the police clubs, especially leaders, to get their children involved in this beautiful skill set.
19:50We have done art therapy in your club.
19:53And art therapy helps you to find out whether your child is angry, you know, if they have suppressed anger.
19:59Art has so many different dimensions.
20:01And the transition state is amazing.
20:02So that we would like to promote and market and appeal to all you club leaders who probably tune in, you know, to get involved with and get your children who maybe have that particular type of skill.
20:14You know, not just say, oh, that type of joy, you know, there's a platform now where they can showcase, you know, the art and that kind of stuff.

20:45Hi, my name is Renee Bain-Keller and I'm the assistant superintendent of police acting at the Mountain and Canine Branch.
20:53And with me, I have police horse Hannibal, who is the artist of this great artwork behind us.
20:59This year, we will be collecting art from April 15th to 23rd under the theme, A Garden of Expression.
21:06Here are some of the rules.
21:07You're required to add sustainable materials to your art.
21:11It can be sculpture, it can be canvas, or it could be mixed media, anything of your choosing.
21:18What we want from you is your imagination.
21:20What we don't want from you is anything that has been digitally enhanced, any photography, or anything that has been processed through ChatGPT.
21:29Don't forget to add a short description for your art.
21:32And deadline is April 23rd so that the museum can have enough time to put it on display for International Museums Day.
21:39So we are looking forward to your great artwork to be displayed at the Police Museum.

21:51And I know that the Police Museum, I did not know about it until a couple of months ago when she mentioned that she was actually heading to the Police Museum to be the curator.

22:05I don't know if you could give us a little more details about that particular museum and if it's going to be, I guess, opening up more to the public as time goes on.
22:14The Police Museum has been there a few years well under the Inspector Prince and also Inspector Elcock.
22:24A few good people came together during the former commissioner and they felt that we need to advertise, market, and show the historical component of the police service.
22:34So when you go to the museum, you'll see all the past commissioners, you'll see when police want to wear short pants and long socks, you know, the cork caps.
22:43You know, they chronicle nicely, you know, the female officers who have risen to the rank, the oldest unit in the police service, which is the Mountain Branch.

22:53They show you when police and fire was won.
22:56So that it's got a street and also speaks to the police club.
22:59There's a component to where it talks about the police club.

36:01shabadi of the saint james police youth club we want to remind you of the numbers to call
36:05623-1711 extensions 1996 and 1997. i know you're just about a week away before the easter holidays
36:14and i know corporal shabadi you might have some interesting things to share with uh parents as the easter
36:21police approach separately apart from the wonderful initiative we have with the art of course school
36:27is closed for two weeks yes and therefore one way of dismantling gangs and shutting down the recruitment
36:33is to ensure their children time is occupied constructively and that much we we feel that the
36:39camps that the two weeks that we have something called an easter camp and not just saint james
36:45but at a national level so you can go to any community policing unit within the division find
36:51out about the camp get your training roll you see the ages from five to seventeen and we take them in
36:56from three because there are some very mature three year old yes right and we have a lot of creative
37:01activities we have art and graph we have games we have sports we have span and b competition we take
37:06them to nelson mandela park mounted branch we take them to tv6 to see mr bassant and how he operates within
37:13his own you follow a number of different things and and the creative part is that the police is not
37:20being seen as somebody to lock up arrest and charge but i am your mentor i'm your friend you know i'm
37:26concerned therefore it is a partnership with a number of different people um i must commend the the port of
37:33spain police port um corporal cummins and her team you know they've been very good in fact she's
37:38only right now decorating and transforming so that when the children come down probably on on monday
37:44they'll feel a sense of like a second home and therefore i appeal to all parents get your train
37:49involved in in one of those easter camps you know and i i appeal to the businessmen support a five case
37:57of water you know pass on you club center ask the officer how can i be of service if you have the time
38:02and you want to do a little course for them you want to come and chat with them for a little ten minutes
38:06all that is what you talk about a multi-point approach in terms of addressing uterine crime

38:58activities take off the phone come off the phone and let them have a human element interaction where
39:06they'll be able to speak and enjoy each other's company and it's absolutely imperative that we
39:11continue to put on a good fight if we are to dismantle gangs in this country well i noticed that
39:17the limited spaces and i saw a limited uh species registration is it across the country that they have these
39:24various um camps going on yes not just in one location right no it's all over it's at a national
39:30level so you have camps in tobago so you go to any community policing unit in the division and you
39:36access to the officer and they will guide you in terms of the camps and they will let you know when
39:41there's a form etc so that you can register to enroll them into the camp and these are for non-policy
39:47club members too so not just for your club members as well so get them involved in the camp certainly i've
39:53just judging from the the flyers here there's a a lot to do um and i think what time is does it start
39:59and end every day it starts at 9 a.m and we try to finish at four i mean again a little so by four
40:08we want and sometimes they're there five o'clock waiting for the parents but we you know we try to
40:14have a full day with them so the end of the evening they can go back saying mommy i enjoy the police club
40:19you know i enjoy the camp i'd like to continue yeah yeah and certainly it's almost like school
40:23you know but you just have a lot of fun activities involved that's right you know and you you can dip
40:28your your feet in almost everything there and you might like something you never expected before you
40:32know in terms of steering yourself in a particular direction for a particular profession as the case may
40:38be or a sport or a hobby of some sort that you will enjoy when you go there for the first time and
40:44you are exposed to certain games or dance or whatever it might be it's all creativity and for
40:49those who are 17 18 19 we have them as camp directors so there's a room for them to supervise
40:55particularly computer room monitor the swing make sure they turn in using the restroom it's all the
41:00developmental process in saying leadership quality and it it creates a good incentive in terms of
41:07making them say okay i have contributed towards the camp all right and um you know just on a very
41:13different note before we take a break there was a road traffic accident sometime today or last night
41:20rather um certainly somebody was hit pretty badly she's lying on the the floor then we just want to
41:27implore persons you know drivers motorists and pedestrians alike please be mindful of the roadways
41:36where you're crossing is also important because you know sometimes you want to blame the driver but
41:40sometimes the driver is not at fault and we don't know the particulars but obviously we want to remind
41:48pedestrians and motorists to be safe yes very unfortunate and you know especially the area is
41:53not lit and then unfortunately you don't have the luxury of using a pavement there's some people have to
41:58use the road you know to make the way from one area to the next and therefore you have to take into
42:02consideration i've seen some kind of humps and i don't know what they're doing but it's really
42:07unfortunately that you take all these matters into consideration all right we're going to take a short

45:31corporal shabody you wanted to end by adding a couple things or uh to the public yeah certainly i just want
45:37to firstly um thank the many stakeholders that have come on board and is working in concert with the
45:44police because we want to salute them we want to let them know that um this is the only way we can
45:48rescue our nation's children um miss nabi um miss giselle you know they donated some what you call
45:55some kits some sa kits because you're sending the children out to sa yes and some of the kits so we
46:00want to salute um miss nabi and her team and they have doing excellent work with return with the policy
46:06club and by extension mr james devers and you know you know there's so many people we want to
46:13so that we are grateful when i say and you know when somebody can call you and tell you how can i be
46:17of service it speaks volume instead of you calling them you know so we want to salute them we want to
46:22salute the organizations and the volunteers who have made themselves available to work in concert with
46:30the children we have seen where children who were members of our homework club have done well in terms of
46:37reading spelling poetry um understanding the importance of add and take away people taking
46:44time off to volunteer i think we need to have a day for volunteerism we need to raise the standard and
46:50need to recognize that when people volunteer their service yes it should be part of a promotion too
46:56what what program that's right this their time yes it's extremely important because you're doing it very
47:02selflessly that's right you know hoping to make a you know brighten somebody's day or make somebody's
47:08day better or even their life better uh depending on the service the voluntary service that you embark upon
47:14yes um and it's extremely important as you pointed out and also to give lift and encouragement to those
47:21children and adults alike uh in different situations that is what crime does in its positive sense a lot of
47:29people that come and patronize and partake i want to salute the parent council who have been doing
47:34an excellent work um miss christine miss carter miss jones you know i really really going beyond the
47:40call of duty i really want to salute them and thank them for providing the youth executive body because
47:45with all the youth you see you could change youth youth can impact on youth and we have young people
47:49impacting on their own peers it is very helpful and i think that um god has allowed us a space where we can
47:56continue work with young people and i'm grateful for that space i trust that we have an absolutely
48:01wonderful easter camp i also want to tell people that good sense reveal you know the time we're in right
48:07now yes they'll be in the family people um black and they'll be in the family with billboards and all that
48:14you know we are looking on we are we are trinidad is a is a is a place where people look to us and we need
48:20to conduct ourselves in a civilized i'm seeing parties sharing each other's color and i think that
48:26it sticks well in terms of um the election atmosphere that we're in because the police are
48:32there they're out and about and they want to make sure that good sense prevail and they're there to
48:36ensure that there's peace and nobody infringes on anybody's rights yes certainly as you said you know
48:42it's uh it's at that period of time where we have to be tolerant and be you know disciplined even and
48:48our approach and how we deal with people respect people choices of course that's right you know and
