04:17Now, I want you all to know, because today is Friday,
04:20we are preparing for yet another busy weekend.
04:24And yes, Christmas is in the air for many of us
04:27who love Christmas, like myself.
04:29And the hustle and bustle continues.
04:31I just want to remind you all that after Christmas,
04:34we have life, eh?
04:35So please don't just splurge everything
04:37and assume that, you know, everything will fall in its place.
04:41Just remember there's life after Christmas.
04:44And speaking of that, persons looking to make their rounds
04:47to different events, different Christmas parties,
04:49or even get to get your favorite item,
04:52please, we beg you once again to take it easy on the nation's roots.
04:56Now, I'm not sure where this occasion was,
04:59but we could see where we are pleading,
05:01constantly pleading for individuals to understand
05:04that you must take it easy.

05:14Also today was the official launch of the mobile unit
05:19in downtown Port of Spain.
05:21Also along was the first day of the festive Shield Outreach Program.
05:26So where you saw the Mayor, His Worship, Chinua Allen there,
05:31along with the Commissioner of Police at the TTPS, Mr. Guevaro,
05:36who was there representing and, of course, engaging with the public.
05:40And it was a nice sight to see with all of the other members
05:42of the services there as well.
05:44Now, speaking of members of the service,
05:47this gentleman is no stranger to the show.
05:48He's part of the family, but he is wearing another hat.
05:52Yes.
05:53And we must congratulate him as the new president
05:56of the social welfare for the TTPS,
05:59none other than acting ASP, Officer Pitt.
06:03How are you?
06:05Thank you very much, Whitney Husbands.
06:07Yes.
06:08Blessed afternoon to you.
06:10Blessed afternoon, Trinidad and Tobago.
06:11I'm not too bad at all.
06:15You said a new hat, yes.
06:17And it's a big hat indeed, more or less.
06:21You know, there's so much that the position in itself brings
06:25in terms of that level of responsibility
06:27and, you know, our ability to impact our officers
06:32in a way that ensures their welfare and well-being.
06:35So the past couple of weeks have been very, very demanding
06:39and I'm saying so, taking into consideration Christmas
06:44and there are so much activities that surrounds our police officers
06:49in terms of engagements.
06:51Just this afternoon on my way here, you know, I was engaged by some officers
06:56who want to reach out to children who were impacted by, you know,
07:01having lost one of their parents to homicides and things like that.
07:05So, you know, behind the scenes, police officers are doing so much
07:09in order to create that impact that will ensure the relationship
07:15between police officers and the community improves.
07:18Yes, and I hope that also you can find a way to assist the officers
07:21internally as well because I think a lot of persons don't understand
07:24what you all go up against and mentally it is something
07:29that is not easy to deal with.
07:30So I hope you all also take that into consideration.
07:33Of course, definitely.
07:33And, you know, that is more or less our core responsibility
07:36in terms of treating with our officers internally.
07:38And you've said it, policing is so demanding and it's a tankless job.
07:44And it's not easy to go out there and give your all and, you know,
07:49on completion somebody tells you, hey, that ain't good enough.
07:52You know?
07:52Or you're wicked.
07:53Or you're wicked.
07:54Or you're wicked.
07:55And in addition, at times, police officers go above and beyond
08:00and it's not always seen as something that is noble in some quarters.
08:05You know, we withstand a certain level of scrutiny that, you know,
08:08brings us sometimes into positions where we have to account.
08:11And, you know, it's for that reason we provide that level of support
08:15for officers who, for whatever reason, they may have found themselves
08:19in certain positions where they have to account either internally
08:22or through the open courts.
08:24Yeah.
08:25As we dive in, there's a TTPS media release that we are going to touch on here quickly.
08:30Over 56 million worth in cannabis seized in Point 14.
08:34Now, the TTPS continues to work extremely hard.
08:38Commissioner of Police, Alistair Govaro, has once again commended the dedication
08:42and professionalism of the officers and partner agencies involved in the operation
08:48that resulted in the seizure of an estimated 56 million worth of illegal cannabis.
08:55An intelligence-led anti-crime exercise conducted in the Point 14 district
08:59on Thursday 11, December 2025 resulted in the seizure of 23 bales of marijuana.
09:06Yeah.
09:07Excellent work again.
09:08You know, and I've been seeing the communication in terms of the social media.
09:13You know, there are a lot of persons who are very grateful for the seizure.
09:16There are other persons who are asking questions that, you know.
09:19Well, yes, in terms of arrest.
09:21And the thing about it is yes.
09:22I have a question yesterday as well.
09:23And that is good.
09:24And it's fair.
09:25You know, we have always aspired to be transparent to the public in terms of our investigations.
09:31But not because you have a seizure and persons were not arrested immediately.
09:38It means to say that no one will be arrested eventually.
09:43Okay.
09:43All right?
09:43So sometimes it's just a patience game.
09:47And, you know, we will have information that the general public would not have.
09:50And for that reason, we just ask in that person's trustee process.
09:53And, of course, we see any bales there on the television set there
09:56where the officers are clearly working extremely hard.
10:00And I'm hoping, as you said, patience as you would.
10:02Patience.
10:03That's right.
10:03As you're going to do it.
10:04We get some convictions moving forward.
10:06Let's take a look at this video here quickly.
10:26Around 7 p.m. on Thursday, the 11th of December, 2025,
10:31I spearheaded an intelligence-led operation supported by DCP Suzette Martin
10:36and officers of the Special Branch at a forested area of South Central Road,
10:42Captiville Point 14,
10:44where we found and seized 625 kilos of plant-like material resembling marijuana
10:51with an estimated street value of $56 million.
10:55That means that within the past 24 hours,
11:00the TGPS has seized almost 2.2 tons of marijuana in total,
11:07with an estimated street value of $227 million.
11:13The scene was processed by members of the CSI in the Southwestern Division,
11:19and the narcotics were subsequently handed over to the Special Investigations Unit
11:24to continue inquiries.
11:25The TGPS remains resolute, and these operations demonstrate our commitment to dismantling criminal
11:36enterprises, protecting our borders, and ensuring that traffickers find no safe haven within our nation.
11:44While traffickers attempted to have a Merry Christmas by flooding the streets with green,
11:52their illegal activities were disrupted by blue.
11:56Yes, as the voice of Commissioner Guevara, of course, he's standing strong and working extremely hard.
12:09The way in which we are seeing just observation and a civilian looking in,
12:13seeing the work that you all are doing along with the commissioners,
12:16spearheading and making sure, as they say, what, boots on the ground?
12:19Boots on the ground.
12:19Yeah.
12:20What are your thoughts on what you just saw there?
12:21I think any member of the public who has seen the type of results within the last 48 hours or so
12:28should be pleased with the work of the police.
12:30And as the commissioner said, investigations are continuing.
12:33So it's not a matter of, you know, because at this point in time.
12:36Yes, yes, yes.
12:37I'm certain that there are persons who are very much uncomfortable at this point in time
12:40in anticipation that very soon we'll be engaging.
12:44You know, you're speaking about being uncomfortable.
12:47Yeah.
12:47And I wanted to go in that direction quickly because when the criminal elements who are
12:52dealing with these items and bringing it in our country and on the streets start to get
12:58uncomfortable, their back is now against the wall and we are in an SOE.
13:01I know you can't tell us much of the next move of the TTPS, but how are you all going to protect
13:06the citizens where the frustration kicks in for these drug dealers and persons who are now
13:11realizing their pockets are being affected in a major way and then they could take other actions.
13:17Well, that's an excellent question.
13:18So you are more looking at, you know, a kind of violent fallout.
13:23And the reality is in all our operations, we always consider the impact it will have, both
13:32negative and positive.
13:34All right.
13:34And it's for that reason that certain things are put in place because it's almost predictable
13:39how persons are going to respond.
13:41So the response that we would be boxing or putting persons within our particular framework
13:51to provide is one that is going to increase our opportunities for arrest and our opportunities
13:59for prosecution.
14:00Regarding persons who we believe might be affected violently, we provide duty of care in
14:07order that persons now find themselves within the know and can now make an informed decision
14:12in terms of their safety and security.
14:15And then, you know, if it is at times beyond them, then we are there also to provide that
14:19additional level of support.
14:21So it's not a case of just having these operations conducted and, you know, the chips fall away
14:27with me.
14:28You know, there are a lot of consideration that goes into the aftermath because it's a heavy
14:33impact in terms of some person's empire.
14:36Yeah, exactly.
14:37And that is my concern, and I'm sure others in the public will feel that way at this time.
14:41Let's take a look at what's making the updates in the SOE today.
14:44Day 149.
14:47Number of operations, 11,179.
14:51Target priority offenders, 3,450.
14:55Searches conducted, 74,223.
14:59Traffic operations, 7,912.
15:02Total persons arrested, 4,650.
15:07Total persons charged, 2,512.
15:15Traffic offenses detected, 41,723.
15:21Firearms recovered, we're seeing an increase with the pistols at 115.
15:25A total of 246.
15:28Ammunition recovered.
15:29Wrongs, again, we see an increase of the 9mm, 1,781.
15:35A total of 3,394.
15:38And, of course, the massive jump that we're seeing with the grams of cannabis,
15:42along with the grams of cocaine, as well with dangerous drugs seized.
15:46Yes, me.
15:50I was very concerned.
15:54I know it's a lot to read out.
15:56And I always say this.
15:58It's a lot to read out in terms of how much effort is going towards these successes that we are experiencing on the ground.
16:06You're talking about over 11,000 operations.
16:08And, Whitney, it means now that the police service, the officers on the ground,
16:15had to endure a tremendous amount of sacrifice in order to bring these operations to a successful conclusion.
16:22And oftentimes, and I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again,
16:26oftentimes, you know, it goes without any kind of appreciation, externally, that is.
16:30You know, so we will want members of the public to appreciate the type of effort that is being conducted behind the scenes.
16:37And that eventually comes to the fore in order to make the country a much more safer place to reside.
16:43Well, I'm hoping that they're hearing you.
16:45And when they see all of these streets, they'll be saying,
16:47job, I love thumbs up, you know, give them motivation.
16:50But the job, I mean, what you all signed up for, it doesn't come with that.
16:54But I understand how motivation works.
16:56And all of us may need it.
16:58Not me.
16:59All of us need it sometimes in different forms.
17:01Yes.
17:01So I hear that.
17:02Yeah, because there are persons who would say, well, this is what they're getting paid for.
17:05It's not easy paid for.
17:07You know, what you all, as I said before, signed up to do is something that the ordinary citizen cannot do.
17:15Yeah.
17:16And what it entails is sometimes not being praised.
17:20It's not a type of job.
17:21It's not a glamorous job.
17:22Yeah.
17:22But sometimes it is always good to just mention a job well done.
17:26That goes a long way.
17:27Of course, it goes a long, long way.
17:29Appreciation.
17:29And our very own Johnny King said it, being a former police officer himself.
17:33Appreciation.
17:34You see that too.
17:35And it doesn't mean to say that, on the other hand, and I know we don't have to invite persons to do this.
17:39On the other hand, when we fall short, you know, persons call us out.
17:44And they say, hey, you are falling short.
17:45Of course.
17:45All right?
17:46So, in converse, when you are seeing the success, we expect that members of the public will say, job well done.
17:53Understood.
17:54Let's take a look at what made today's headlines.
18:14And those are the stories we make in today's headlines.
18:38And one of the stories that stood out to me, clearly, and I'm sure to many others,
18:42is one word, accountability.
18:44And the TTPS is standing firm when it comes to that,
18:47with that headline that I just want to mention quickly,
18:50three E99 cops get bailed now.
18:53With this being said, this is something that persons, I think,
18:58don't understand what really took place here.
19:01And when you all hold persons accountable for their actions,
19:05it speaks volumes.
19:07Yeah, it does.
19:09And, you know, there's a side of policing that is not always pleasing,
19:15you know, but, I mean, it's necessary, right?
19:18So there are different sides of policing.
19:20And, you know, accountability is of paramount importance.
19:24Through it all, you know, we respect and we must preserve the notion
19:28that persons are innocent until proven guilty.
19:31And we have seen time and time again where our officers have been exonerated
19:36based on things that they have been, I don't want to say just accused of doing,
19:40but, you know, they have been charged for.
19:42And, you know, from an association perspective...
19:44Yes, that's what I was going to ask.
19:45Yeah, we provide that level of support in terms of persons having to have legal representation.
19:51Okay.
19:52Yeah, so it comes at a cost.
19:54And it's for that reason that once persons are members, you know,
19:56the association subsidizes in that regard.
19:59We also visit officers who are incarcerated.
20:03We also do that.
20:04We have a welfare check, so we go to the prisons and we visit our officers
20:07to ensure that, you know, they are getting the, you know,
20:10they are getting that type of support inside that is needed.
20:14Because moving from one entity to the other end is not an easy thing, you know.
20:20And if not managed carefully, persons can really, it can interfere with your mentor.
20:24Yes.
20:25You know, so we have been able to provide that level of support
20:27and we will continue to provide that level of support for our officers.

26:48Which you so often times have to defend

26:54I stand there at the apex

27:02And I see where the cruise ships come in
27:04And I applaud the mayor

27:08To place vanguards of democracy

27:24To experience what Trinidad and Tobago has to offer

27:38That I had a meeting with the mayor and his council last week
27:41I could tell them about the meeting, mayor
