00:00 Filmation may have given Duncan a voice but Mattel was the one that gave us the figure.
00:05 Here's your look at the brand new Mattel He-Man and the Master Universe 80s Adventure Cartoon Collection Man-at-Arms Heroic Master of Weapons.
00:13 With Master Universe Cartoon Collection action figures, the magic of the 1980s childhood is back.
00:29 Inspired by the Master Universe cartoon and toy line from the 80s, this line features key characters designed with a nostalgic look.
00:35 Built at 5.5 inch scale and 16 points of articulation for great battle moves and poses, they come with one accessory and a themed mini comic.
00:43 While he's being bestowed the responsibility of keeping someone else's secrets, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the cartoon collection version of Man-at-Arms stands.
00:51 Of course then we'll also bring in the Origins Man-at-Arms so you can see the size differences between the two.
00:56 The figure of Man-at-Arms is 6 inches in height or 15 centimeters tall.
01:01 And speaking of secrets, let's bring in the man he has to keep the secrets for.
01:05 Here's what the figure looks like with the cartoon collection He-Man.
01:08 Bringing also in the other figures we've already had a look at so far.
01:11 Why you got them all over there? That'll make more sense in a second.
01:13 Here's what the figure also looks like with the cartoon collection Skeletor.
01:16 And here's also what the figure looks like with the cartoon collection Beastman, all representing the first wave of figures.
01:21 On this side we'll also bring in the Origins Man-at-Arms because I don't have the original vintage Man-at-Arms.
01:26 And also I can bring in one of the Royal Guards as well.
01:29 What I thought was maybe going to make sense still doesn't make any sense.
01:32 Do you mean the pamphlet that comes included with Man-at-Arms? No, that still doesn't make any sense.
01:36 Why Mattel feels the need to waste the paper and the printing to tell us that you can take the arms off of Man-at-Arms, the head, the lower half of his body, and of course the boots.
01:44 Yes, I'm sure this is good probably to tell the kids that you can do that.
01:47 But I think kids that are prone to pulling things off their figures are going to do it whether they're supposed to or not.
01:52 This is going to get folded up.
01:54 My recycling bin is just over there.
01:56 And it's going to... well, it didn't quite make the recycling bin.
01:59 No, what doesn't make really any sense is the choice of choosing the comic for this figure.
02:03 Now you get yourself Wizards' Wizard.
02:05 I thought really initially that they could have paired the comics based on the episodes.
02:09 Because He-Man and Skeletor have episode-specific accessories of the same episode.
02:15 Beast-Man and Man-at-Arms both come in clue with accessories that are based on the Dragon Invasion.
02:20 I thought they probably should have come in clue with the same comic.
02:22 But if you have been following along the exploits of this humble reviewer, thank you for that by the way, you'll notice that He-Man and Beast-Man came in clue with the same comic.
02:31 Skeletor and Man-at-Arms comes in clue both with Wizards' Wizard.
02:35 Makes no sense whatsoever.
02:36 If anybody can pair really the reasonings why, other than maybe they just wanted to have two figures with one comic, two figures with another comic.
02:42 The comics are exactly the same inside, so if you already have Wizards' Wizard, you already know by now.
02:47 Same sort of comics, same panels are featured inside the comics.
02:51 There's a little advertise, a little tease there for the masks that come in clue with Skeletor.
02:54 And there's the sword that comes in clue with He-Man.
02:56 On the back is advertised He-Man, Beast-Man, Man-at-Arms and Skeletor as the first wave of four figures.
03:03 I think we're already getting announcements.
03:05 Pre-orders have already popped up for the second wave and I'm super excited for that.
03:08 I think Trap-Jaw is part of the second wave.
03:10 Some people have already been lucky enough to find their Trap-Jaws in the wild.
03:13 I have had no such similar luck, just because I'm a Canadian collector.
03:17 So I'm going to move the comic out of the way.
03:19 I'm going to keep all of them, even though they're basically doubling it up times two.
03:22 The figure also comes in clue, speaking of Beast-Man, he comes with a weapon specifically from the Dragon Invasion.
03:28 This is the Stasis Ray.
03:29 The Stasis Ray isn't quite the same molded plastic as the Hover Ray.
03:33 The Hover Ray came in clue with Beast-Man, which would actually be facing this way.
03:36 One is actually more the darker gray, as you very obviously see.
03:39 And then the Stasis Ray that comes in clue with Man-at-Arms is kind of more of a, I guess, like a bluish gray.
03:44 They're basically wielded the same way.
03:46 And nothing really necessarily telling you that you have to even have these displayed with Beast-Man.
03:50 I mean, really, if you wanted to, you can have these both displayed with He-Man characters.
03:53 But you're going to take yourself Man-at-Arms, and now being the benefit of having gripping hands,
03:57 you can actually take the Stasis Ray, clip his hand.
04:01 I didn't notice with the Stasis Ray, I don't know why it is about the handles,
04:04 but they didn't seem to hold inside his hand as well.
04:07 It could also have something to do with the fact that he has all this extra armor on his arms as well.
04:11 Like, how would you even be able to move your arms anyways?
04:13 But that's what Man-at-Arms looks like with the Stasis Ray.
04:16 Very cool little accessory.
04:17 Like Beast-Man, probably accessories that aren't going to find their way back into a little baggie somewhere.
04:22 These guys are actually going to be displayed with the figures.
04:24 Let's remove that for right now, put that off to the side.
04:26 The figure also come in clue, of course, if you're going to get a Man-at-Arms,
04:29 you've got to also come in clue with the mace.
04:31 The mace in your face does come in clue with Man-at-Arms,
04:33 although it's much larger than the one that we get here.
04:35 Sorry, didn't mean to startle you.
04:37 This is the one that comes in clue with the Origins Man-at-Arms,
04:39 or would have been based also on the original Vintage Man-at-Arms mace.
04:42 This is the much larger mace that comes in clue with Man-at-Arms.
04:45 It's also a lot heavier for the obvious reasons.
04:47 There's a lot more plastic going in it.
04:49 It doesn't maybe have as much of the detail,
04:51 so that's one thing that it's lacking that the Origins does a better job with.
04:54 But if you certainly want cartoon accuracy, I think this one looks a little bit closer.
04:58 And again, this can also fit in his hand as well.
05:01 And just have the figure displayed that way.
05:03 It does make the figure a little bit more front heavy,
05:05 so you just may want to bend the knees, bend the legs a little bit further back.
05:08 But yeah, Man-at-Arms looks fantastic with the little mace.
05:11 Taking the figure now and removing the mace,
05:13 let's get a closer look at the head sculpt.
05:15 I mean, not only do I think it looks a lot like Duncan from the series,
05:18 but in a way also it looks like Tom Selleck.
05:20 A missed opportunity by Hollywood by maybe not casting Tom Selleck in an 80s...
05:24 Well, we did get the one Master of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren.
05:28 I mean, did anybody really want to ask for, "Hey, let's do a Master of the Universe?"
05:32 I know obviously it was a lot cheaper than them producing these big oversized sets.
05:35 But let's do a Master of the Universe taking place in the present time
05:38 and have no Battle Cat, no Orko.
05:40 Yeah, we all kind of share the same grief when it comes to the Master...
05:43 I love the Master of the Universe film, but it obviously could have been a little bit better.
05:46 And casting Tom Selleck back in the 80s as Master of the Universe Man-at-Arms?
05:50 Yes, that would have been good right away.
05:53 Bringing back in the origins, Master of the Universe Man-at-Arms...
05:56 I don't know why I'm tacking Master of the Universe on the front of that.
05:58 You definitely see there's a lot of color changes between the two figures.
06:01 I mean, obviously it doesn't look at all like they're sharing anything between the two.
06:04 I mean, even the armor is very different.
06:06 I thought shoulder-wise and obviously the gauntlet that he has on his forearm
06:10 is very different from the original vintage and very much different from the origins of Man-at-Arms.
06:15 Why am I having such a tough time getting that out?
06:17 Man-at-Arms also would have had a much more brighter green coloring for his plastic.
06:21 Where more closer to the colors of filmation, this Man-at-Arms actually has kind of more of a darker green.
06:26 The green and the gold works a lot better on this figure,
06:29 even though really if you were to start to take the armor off...
06:31 I mean, the armor... this one actually doesn't remove...
06:34 you'd have to really kind of take his head off.
06:37 You'd probably have to pop the arms off on both sides.
06:39 You might be able to slide the armor off that way.
06:41 But really, if you were anyways, what you'd only be basically seeing underneath is basically He-Man's body.
06:46 The torso seams as well as the arms and the shoulders, the lower legs,
06:50 all are identical with all the other figures we've looked at so far.
06:53 Check off He-Man. Check off Skeletor. Check off Beast-Man. All the same.
06:58 Obviously the armor is a little bit different. This just straps around his body.
07:01 Although it doesn't strap in such a way that you actually can see little fasteners.
07:04 What it is instead, they basically would have just slid this up his arm and done the same thing also with his gauntlet.
07:09 It also makes this a little bit more stable.
07:12 If anybody's been collecting any original vintage figures or even the Master Universe Origins,
07:16 one of the problems that always plagued Man-at-Arms is the fact that these never stayed properly.
07:20 I mean, every single time I've gone back in and tried to tighten this,
07:23 because they don't add an extra little ledge right there,
07:26 there's no real way to ever really tighten the forearm guard that he has.
07:30 So it always really sits really loose on the figure.
07:32 Hey, there's Origins Man-at-Arms.
07:34 The newer Man-at-Arms, the one from the cartoon at least, has things a lot more in place.
07:38 So other than maybe just taking the hands off, probably would be the only way to really remove the armor pieces.
07:43 At least nothing is flopping around on the figure.
07:45 Head sculpt was again fantastic. A little more simplified on the armor than what we got with the Origins.
07:50 But again, it looks very much like the cartoon.
07:52 I really feel like maybe Man-at-Arms and Beastman might be my two favorite from this line.
07:56 I really like the head sculpt. Again, I like the colors that they chose for this figure.
07:59 Even though the colors for Beastman were off, I think the colors though used for Man-at-Arms looks a little bit more closer to the cartoon.
08:06 For his articulation, it's all going to be the same as all the other figures.
08:09 So of course, he does have the ball joint that does rotate all the way around.
08:12 Head does look up, looks down, and also moves it back and forth.
08:16 As for his arms, his arms do rotate all the way around.
08:18 Even though he has all these larger shoulder bulky pieces, nothing really is getting in the way of preventing the figures from moving his arms outward.
08:25 I mean, you can easily give him a big giant bear hug, or I guess he'd be giving a bear hug to somebody else.
08:29 Can easily be pulled off, and nothing is really again flopping around on the armor.
08:33 His arms swivel back and forth. They're only on a single hinge after all.
08:37 That allows again the elbow to bend back and forth.
08:39 I've noticed here on Man-at-Arms, at least on mine, that the joint on the elbow is very tight.
08:44 Again, I'd rather much tighter joints than looser joints.
08:46 Hands rotate also all the way around.
08:48 His waist is only relegated to just a straight swivel.
08:52 Goes with the territory of the Origins and the original Vintage figures all had that,
08:55 although the original Vintage figures would have had the snap back feature.
08:58 That feature has not.
08:59 I mean, there's been a couple of figures from the Origins line that actually have had the snapping feature,
09:03 but all of them now basically just a straight swivel.
09:05 Legs split out. They're on ball joints.
09:07 You can take the legs and move them forward. Yes. Move them back. Sure.
09:10 Swivel at the top of the thigh. The figure has a single hinge in the knee.
09:13 Rotate the lower leg.
09:14 The only thing I will say that's a little loose on the figure is this part right here.
09:18 It's a little loose on mine, but other than that, not bad at all with Man-at-Arms.
09:22 Ankle pivot back and forth. Ankle rocker back and forth.
09:25 Nice looking Man-at-Arms. Nice looking Man-at-Arms.
09:28 He is my... not my favorite. I think my favorite still goes to Beastman of all things.
09:32 Surprisingly, I would say Beastman, and yet looking at Beastman, how good of a figure is that?
09:36 Of course, we also brought in Skeletor.
09:38 Just by the fact of how much pressure Skeletor would have to have,
09:42 not only working with all the boobs that he does, but just the fact he's the big bad guy,
09:46 I think puts a lot of pressure on the fact that the figure had to deliver a much better one than we actually did get.
09:50 He-Man was also really good, but Skeletor, I feel like, I don't know. It's just not quite there.
09:55 And of course, bringing back in, not necessarily the source material, but certainly the vintage toy line.
10:01 The closest thing, at least to what I get, to the vintage toy line.
10:03 Here's also what the figure looks like with the origins. The blocked Beastman.
10:06 Beastman's too good to be blocked.
10:07 Yeah, like Beastman, though, just happens to be two figures that I like from the Wave the most.
10:12 They also have what I feel to be the best accessories.
10:15 Unlike the sword and unlike the masks that will have already really gone back in the bag,
10:19 no plans at all to ever be displayed on the shelf with them.
10:22 Both actually, the hover ray, the hover ray, and also the stasis ray that came with Man-at-Arms and Beastman, respectively,
10:28 both will find their way back onto the figures when I have these guys displayed on the shelf.
10:32 Just a mild correction to something I mentioned in the review,
10:34 where I did say that Duncan didn't have removable armor. It's not the case.
10:37 In fact, actually, if you waited out, coming up to your vision shortly,
10:40 you'll see on the back of his armor, similar to what we saw with Skeletor,
10:43 the armor detaches, actually in two halves.
10:46 And see, there's these rectangular pegs that attach the bottom half to the top half of his armor.
10:51 Once you pry those two, it's easy just to remove it from his body.
10:54 But if you wanted to see what he looked like underneath the armor,
10:56 just literally look to He-Man and just think green instead of flesh tone.
10:59 I don't have any interest at all to try to remove the armor.
11:02 Because once that starts to develop looseness,
11:04 especially the fact that they're using rubbery plastic,
11:06 you're never going to be able to get it back in place.
11:09 It's like trying to remove, if you ever had it back in the day in the 80s,
11:11 like you were trying to take cereal box prizes out,
11:14 you pull the bag out to try to find where the prize is.
11:17 It's always at the bottom and you can never get that bag properly back in the box.
11:21 I don't know how many boxes I had sitting inside my cabinet cupboard
11:24 where all of them were overly warped with me just trying to fit the bag back in the box.
11:29 Just leave it alone. Don't touch it.
11:32 As you can see, I've got Man-at-Arms displayed here with the stasis ray.
11:35 Ironically enough, both him and Beast-Man, my two favorite figures from this first wave,
11:39 both come included with the best accessories.
11:41 Both come with accessories from the same episode, "The Dragon Invasion."
11:44 Funny though, they didn't come with the same mini comic.
11:47 I think they should have just paired it based on the episode.
11:50 So He-Man and Skeletor having from the same episode accessories should have had the same mini comic.
11:54 And Beast-Man and Man-at-Arms, my favorite,
11:56 should have come included with the same mini comic from the same episode.
11:59 Anyways, they've decided either way to pack two comics with each of the figures.
12:03 Well, not two comics with each figure.
12:05 Two different comics come with this first wave.
12:08 So if you did happen to rip any of them,
12:10 not that I go out of my way to start ripping mini comics,
12:12 but at least you have yourselves a couple of extras
12:16 just in case one happens to get damaged coming out outside the plastic prison.
12:20 What do you guys, though, think of Man-at-Arms?
12:22 Let me know down below in the comments section.
12:23 And now that we can finally say we've wrapped up things for the first wave,
12:26 who's your favorite figures from this?
12:28 Is it Skeletor? Is it He-Man? Is it Man-at-Arms? Is it Beast-Man?
12:31 Let me know. Let me know down below.
12:32 My favorites are He-Man, or my favorites are Man-at-Arms and Beast-Man.
12:36 Then it's He-Man. He-Man's good.
12:38 I mean, I don't really have any real issues with He-Man.
12:40 Skeletor, unfortunately, I just had high hopes for him.
12:43 And Skeletor, for me at least, just under delivers a little bit.
12:46 Or he delivers, but he just doesn't deliver it as well as, say, Duncan.
12:50 But what's your favorites? Let me know down below in the comments section.
12:52 Again, these are-- I can't even get that out.
12:55 These should be available for all intents and purposes at local retail.
12:59 Good luck if you're a Canadian collector to try to find these.
13:01 I have seen some people actually already showing that they've got themselves Trap Jaw.
13:05 Some of the people actually were lucky enough, some of the collectors were lucky enough
13:08 to actually find these locally earlier.
13:11 I had to wait a little bit longer.
13:12 I wasn't going to pay the stupid, crazy prices that some of the sellers were selling them on eBay.
13:16 I waited it out.
13:17 I ultimately got myself the entire first wave online from, I think, Big Bad Toy Store.
13:21 But again, if you guys are interested, they should be circulating at moderate levels
13:25 depending on how lucky you are as a collector.
13:27 But let me know what you guys think of these.
13:29 In the meantime, if you guys did enjoy this video, why not throw it a like.
13:31 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and would like to stick around for more,
13:35 I will say from a filmation standpoint, the cartoon collection is wrapped up at least for right now.
13:40 But we will be looking at some more Master Universe reviews.
13:42 Those are in the pipeline.
13:44 Those will be also coming your way-- I don't know if this week, but they will be coming shortly.
13:48 So make sure you're coming back to this channel on a regular basis.
13:50 As always, guys, thanks for watching.
13:52 See you guys next time.
