00:00Sure, McFarlane got around to making a mold of Minerva, but could this be a copycat?
00:04Here's a look at Brandon McFarlane Toys, DC Direct, McFarlane Toys, Red Platinum Edition, Cheetah.
00:09Priscilla Rich
00:39Now that we've let the cat out of the bag, or in this case, clamshell case, we're going to take the tape measure first, we're going to see how tall Cheetah stands, then we'll bring in the example that she borrows the body from, and we'll also bring in a Wonder Woman.
00:54I did make mention wrongly at the very beginning of this video, I quoted though Minerva.
00:58It's not Dr. Barbara and Minerva in which they've based this Cheetah from, it's actually based on Priscilla Rich.
01:03Still though, with the corrections aside, hopefully we won't be making any corrections when it comes to the figure's height.
01:08She stands, if I'm telling this correctly, at six and three quarters of an inch in height, working out to be a figure that's 16 and a half centimeters tall.
01:15Another cat BTW that she's cupping things from happens to be the Nightfall Catwoman.
01:19Not a bad figure.
01:21The thing though that kind of confuses me is that, first of all, they chose to still keep the boots on from Catwoman.
01:26So if you look at the lower legs, for example, they're sculpted exactly the same.
01:30Same as well for the arms.
01:31So she has sort of, again, like these elbow-high gloves.
01:34Those seem to still be shared over with this.
01:37You would think though that, okay, other than changing out the brand new head, everything else from like the neck down would be completely the same.
01:43Well, it isn't.
01:44If you look at actually the torso, and I hate to draw the attention then to the torso of Catwoman,
01:48she's a little larger up top than what they have used then for Cheetah.
01:52You would think, again, like if they're going to be copycatting the entire cat, that they would copycat the entire thing.
01:57And that doesn't seem to be the case at all.
01:59Unfortunately, by also using the Nightfall Catwoman, it comes with one other problem.
02:03And that's the fact that she's way too small.
02:05If you bring in, say, for example, the likes of Silver Age Wonder Woman, I mean, look at the size of Wonder Woman, then you can pair it with Cheetah.
02:11Cheetah, I think, needed to be a brand new body.
02:13I mean, again, if you're going to be basing it from now the model,
02:15well, if you've raised the bar and raised the figure with the Silver Age Wonder Woman,
02:19I think you'd have to have Cheetah an equal foil and an equal size.
02:23So while the pretty kitty does come up a tad bit short,
02:26she luckily doesn't come up too short when it comes to the accessories that she has.
02:29First, though, is a nice treat.
02:30She comes with an issue reproduction of Crisis on Infinite Earths, dated December 1985.
02:35Not to make the rest of us oldies feel even older,
02:38but let me know down below in the comments section if you were born in 1985,
02:41or you hadn't even, and painful as it may be,
02:44let me know if you hadn't even been born in 1985.
02:47If you weren't, though, born in 1985,
02:48you may have not experienced the joy of reading Crisis on Infinite Earths.
02:52Now, granted, though, this is issue number nine.
02:54As a kid, though, I went through the entire stack of these.
02:57I had these all bagged and boarded, not graded.
03:00I'm sure I diminished the value by taking them all out,
03:02but I remember laying down one Sunday afternoon,
03:04and I read the entire run of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
03:07I don't think we even had trade paperbacks back then,
03:10but this brought all the heroes and all the villains together.
03:12It was just a fun read.
03:13We know, though, that this isn't a reprodu...
03:15Well, we know it is a reproduction by the fact that they advertised
03:17McFarlane merch on the back.
03:19A DC Direct Superman, a DC Direct Wonder Woman,
03:22both of which we've already looked at here on this channel.
03:24Wait, you have? I have.
03:25I haven't yet, though.
03:26Don't go looking for it.
03:27I haven't looked at, though, the Flash statue.
03:30But all in all, though, the fact that they include a comic is a really nice touch.
03:32What isn't so much of a nice touch
03:34is that she comes to include with a trading card.
03:36I thought you generally like these trading cards.
03:38I do.
03:38Here's, though, my Silver Age Wonder Woman.
03:40So they match nicely, though, with the borders being black
03:42and the font being red.
03:44What kind of is, unfortunately, disappointing
03:46is if you're looking to read anything about Cheetah on the back of the card,
03:49you're not going to get anything.
03:51This might mark the first time that we've gotten ourselves a trading card
03:55for a figure that gives no mention at all about the character.
03:58It does say Crisis on Infinite Earths 9.
04:00I mean, that's fine and good.
04:01And it says, check in with the vilest villains in the DC multiverse.
04:05In this issue, exploring what bad guys have been up to since the crisis began.
04:09Will the army of corrupt rogues take advantage of the mayhem descending on reality
04:13or lend a hand in humanity's time of need?
04:19Does that make any mention of Cheetah?
04:20No, it doesn't.
04:22It's fine, though.
04:23I mean, they make the card as a reference to the issue.
04:26But in the end, though, if you're going to be putting this in a sheet card,
04:28like a trading card sheet,
04:30you would hope, though, that there would be something reading on the back,
04:33whether it be Rich, whether it be Minerva,
04:34but you don't get either.
04:36Just really strange.
04:39I'm not going to discard these.
04:41I'm just going to move them off to the side
04:42just so that they're out of the way of things.
04:44The figure Yes does also come to include a display stand.
04:47The new display stand, we're getting treated to the white DC logo.
04:50In one of the recent reviews, I called this silver.
04:52I guess I just have to wipe my eyes just a little bit.
04:55I don't know.
04:55Maybe it was a little more of a haze that day.
04:58Clearly, though, it's a white DC logo.
05:00Still, though, in walking distance,
05:01there's the peg that can plug into either one of Rich's boots.
05:04The figure does also come to include some swappable hands.
05:06Now, she has on the ends of her hands right now, claws.
05:10Unfortunately, though, what she loses by swapping out the hands
05:13is she doesn't have claws,
05:14or at least certainly not ones painted.
05:16So, like, the hands are pretty bare bones.
05:18I mean, yet they are gripping hands,
05:20yet she doesn't really, unfortunately, have anything to grip.
05:22But then by removing the hands that she has right now,
05:25right now,
05:26the fingernails are at least painted with the claw black parts done on the ends.
05:30These don't, again, unfortunately, have anything on that.
05:32If you didn't want to swap out the hands,
05:33not that I necessarily will,
05:35but just to show you guys what the hands start with first.
05:37Yeah, like, look at the black nails on all of these.
05:39These look good.
05:40But by swapping the hands out,
05:42especially, though, if you decide only just to do one,
05:46look how out of place this looks.
05:48It looks like it's from two completely different figures.
05:50Black nails, black claws on one side,
05:52nothing on the other.
05:54So let's just pop that back off,
05:56put it back the way it was.
05:57Make things right.
05:58Make things right.
05:59And we'll just put the figure down here for a second.
06:01The last thing, though, that comes in clue with Priscilla,
06:03she does have also some swappable faces.
06:06I like the idea of swapping faces myself.
06:09The one thing, unfortunately, goes with that, though,
06:10is the likelihood of losing either one of these.
06:12I mean, they peg onto the back,
06:14so there's a hole and there's a slot.
06:16I'll show you guys.
06:17I'll show you guys.
06:18But you at least get three different head sculpts,
06:20and it does save from,
06:21you would think, from the company's budget,
06:23it does save a little bit
06:24by not having to sculpt an entire head every single time.
06:27You get a smirking face,
06:29or cocky face.
06:30I don't really, cocky kitty, I don't know.
06:32And then you also get more of a feral-looking kitty face.
06:36Swapping out, though, the faces that she has,
06:38just to first show you guys
06:39what the defaulted head looks like,
06:41she sort of has that same issue
06:42that I had with Silver Age Wonder Woman.
06:44Again, look at the size proportion difference
06:46between the two.
06:47Wonder Woman had kind of this golden haze there
06:49all across her cheeks,
06:50if the camera's just going to focus.
06:52Right across the nose,
06:53right across the bridge of the nose,
06:54right across her cheeks as well.
06:56Cheetah seems to have that, though, in spades.
06:58Quite a lot of it, though,
06:59all across her cheek.
07:01I really feel it's unnecessary.
07:03In the end, though,
07:03if you really do want to swap out the faces,
07:05all of the cheetah faces
07:06will kind of have the same thing,
07:07but I don't think it's as much.
07:09Or maybe it just blends in a little bit better.
07:11Swapping out the face is just a case, though,
07:12of popping the bottom plate off.
07:15I find it's easier, though,
07:16if you pull it from the bottom.
07:18And if you want to, again,
07:19swap it out with
07:20kind of the cocky face,
07:22you can go with that route.
07:23Or, my personal favorite,
07:26in case anybody was asking,
07:27you just pop that off
07:28and swap it out
07:29with the feral face.
07:30Well, that cat is ready
07:33to claw your eyes out.
07:35I like the idea
07:36of having swappable faces.
07:38Now, again,
07:38here's my real issue
07:39when it comes to this figure
07:40is the fact that they chose,
07:41of all things,
07:42to use the body
07:43of Nightfall Catwoman.
07:44So, like, unfortunately, though,
07:46it borrows over
07:46the exact same lower legs.
07:49Now, Cheetah, though,
07:49if you're not familiar
07:50with the character,
07:50she has sort of a cat suit on.
07:52What she doesn't have, though,
07:53is boots.
07:54So, continuing something like this
07:56for a sculpt
07:56unfortunately takes something
07:57away from the figure.
07:59Sure, yes,
07:59they give her brand new feets
08:00with claws on the ends of those
08:02because they're clearly
08:02not going to be using
08:03high heels
08:04like the Nightfall Catwoman
08:05had before.
08:06I just don't think
08:07it was the right choice of body.
08:09I mean, first of all,
08:09it's way too small of a body.
08:11But then, by also using
08:12the same mold,
08:13the unique things
08:14that told you right away
08:15that this was Nightfall Catwoman
08:16tells you right away
08:17when you're looking at Cheetah
08:19that she's using
08:19the exact same body.
08:21Again, you've got the markings
08:23at the top there
08:24of where the gloves stop.
08:25So, that's there also as well.
08:27But the one thing, though,
08:27that she doesn't have
08:28if you look at the two
08:29I'm so sorry
08:31if I have to draw your attention to this.
08:32By the way,
08:32the behind, I suppose,
08:34is also the same
08:35although this Cheetah
08:35does have a sculpted tail
08:36on the back.
08:38But yeah,
08:38if you're looking at the chest
08:39now, not that I would have to say
08:41that Cheetah has a smaller chest anyways
08:42but maybe that's one of the reasons
08:44why they chose
08:45to give her a different chest
08:46a different torso piece
08:47as opposed to using
08:48the one from Nightfall.
08:49Maybe the Nightfall Catwoman
08:50was just a tad bit
08:52on the big side.
08:54It is, again,
08:55it's the only thing
08:56that's different
08:56between the two bodies.
08:58Again, I know this one
08:59does also have the tail
09:00on the back there as well.
09:01It's weird, though, again,
09:02that they would have used
09:03everything essentially the same.
09:05So, like, the arms,
09:05the legs are all the same
09:06even, like, the lower torso.
09:08And choosing this
09:09to be the specific place
09:10that we're going to
09:10give a brand new sculpting
09:12to the figure.
09:13Still, for what we get, though,
09:14it's a nice-looking Cheetah.
09:15He has a very long neck, though.
09:17Am I the only one
09:18that sees a very long neck
09:19on Cheetah?
09:20Again, the face works quite well
09:22by having this
09:23a swappable faceplate.
09:25It follows along
09:26the contoured lines anyways
09:27that would be created
09:28by the cowl.
09:29So I don't mind at all
09:30the fact that they make
09:31this a swappable face.
09:32If this was, for example,
09:33I'm just trying to think
09:34of a bald character.
09:35Lex Luthor.
09:36We'll go with Lex Luthor.
09:37If Lex Luthor had,
09:38for example,
09:39a swappable faceplate,
09:40there's nothing really then
09:41to hide the fact
09:42that there's an obvious
09:43line right there.
09:44I think by that,
09:45at least by doing
09:46a swappable face,
09:46it works really well
09:47with the character.
09:48And again,
09:48it kind of keeps
09:49the costs down.
09:49The costs are already
09:50kept down anyways
09:51because they're using
09:51the same mold again.
09:53You've got the leopard print
09:54or the cheetah print
09:55stamped all across
09:56the front and back
09:56of her body.
09:57From what I've heard though,
09:58this is where a lot
09:59of the budget goes into,
10:00where they have to go in there
10:01and they have to press this.
10:02So every time a new part
10:03in the figure's body
10:04has to get printed,
10:05that's cost then
10:06onto the budget.
10:07So you're looking
10:08at the stamping,
10:08the tampo printing
10:09down below in the legs,
10:11the torso,
10:12the arms,
10:12and the back of her body.
10:14Speaking of her
10:14back of the body though,
10:15she does also have a tail.
10:17I'm a bit miffed though
10:18that the tail is so fixed
10:20to the back of her body
10:21like this.
10:21Like there's no
10:22posability at all
10:23to the tail.
10:24I don't expect necessarily
10:25to be a ball joint
10:26because that would be
10:26a real awkward place
10:27to put a ball jointed tail.
10:28But though,
10:29could they have maybe
10:30lifted the tail out?
10:32Maybe they deliberately
10:33did this so that it would
10:34run more parallel
10:35to the legs
10:35so there'd be a less
10:36likelihood that the tail
10:37would snap.
10:38I mean the tail is a soft
10:39at least enough of plastic,
10:40but that's likely I'm sure
10:42why they chose to have
10:43the tail so close like this.
10:44A tail could have
10:44easily stuck out,
10:46but then would maybe
10:46be more likely to bend,
10:48more likely to break,
10:48more likely to upset
10:49collectors that would
10:50snap the tail.
10:51The tail does have
10:53at least a little bit
10:53of black on the end of it
10:54and again you've got
10:55again some nice printing
10:56there all across.
10:57All these spots
10:58really add to the character.
11:00Now all in all,
11:00again I think the figure
11:01is small.
11:02I mean that's the really
11:03biggest,
11:04the big deal breaker
11:05I would hate to say
11:06for Cheetah is just the fact
11:07that she's way too small
11:07if you compare her
11:08with Wonder Woman.
11:09Wonder Woman I know
11:10should really be
11:10a taller character anyways,
11:11but if I was just to
11:12adjust it from what
11:13I would think it would be,
11:14Wonder Woman I think
11:15would be probably more
11:16closer to this
11:17than what this.
11:19She's too much of a giant
11:20compared to the likes
11:21of Cheetah.
11:23For the figures
11:23of articulation,
11:24if you're familiar
11:24with the Nightfall Catwoman
11:26then you'll automatically
11:27be familiar as well
11:28with this one.
11:29The head's going to be
11:29on a ball joint
11:29so it allows the head
11:30to rotate all the way around.
11:32Now one of the things
11:32I was also thinking too
11:34was maybe they deliberately
11:35made this the mold differently
11:36because they would have
11:37to have made the neckline.
11:39Well the neckline
11:39doesn't feel like
11:41it's sculpted,
11:42it feels like it's actually
11:42just painted
11:43or printed on there
11:44so that can't be
11:46one of the reasons
11:46why they choose
11:47to use a different mold.
11:48The arms do rotate
11:49all the way around,
11:50you can bring those arms
11:51out at 90 degrees.
11:52There is a swivel
11:53there at the bicep,
11:55there is also a double hinge
11:56on the elbow
11:56so that's good at least.
11:58Hands rotate all the way around,
11:59you can hinge them
11:59back and forth.
12:00Top of the torso
12:01for Cheetah,
12:02does have a ball joint,
12:03the abdomen also the same.
12:05Legs do split out
12:06and even by having
12:07the tail so close
12:08to the back of the leg
12:09it doesn't seem
12:10to impede
12:10Cheetah's leg articulation,
12:12you can easily
12:12do the splits.
12:14The legs can yes
12:15go forward,
12:16they can also go back
12:17as well.
12:17Swivel at the top
12:18of the thigh,
12:18the figure does also
12:19have a double hinge
12:20on the knee
12:20and articulation
12:22in the boots.
12:23Now the one thing though
12:23about her cat feet,
12:25bring back in again
12:26the Catwoman,
12:27the Catwoman had
12:28this kind of line
12:29right down here
12:30at the bottom
12:30of her boots.
12:31I don't know
12:31if it was supposed
12:32to be intended
12:33as a wrinkle
12:33but you can also see too
12:35like Cheetah has the same.
12:36Cheetah has though
12:37at least larger ball joints
12:38and they probably
12:39could have gotten away
12:40with using larger ball joints
12:41because she doesn't have
12:42as small of a foot
12:43as the Nightfall Catwoman
12:45from before.
12:46All in all though,
12:47I mean again,
12:48if you really want
12:49to get yourself
12:49a Silver Age Cheetah,
12:50this is the best one
12:51to go with.
12:52I mean obviously
12:52it's the only one
12:53we have to go with
12:54but I think there certainly
12:55comes with this one
12:56some shortcomings.
12:57The fact that she is again
12:58using pretty much
12:59just the Nightfall Catwoman
13:01which again is somewhat ironic
13:02if you're going to be
13:03copycatting any figure
13:05why not copycat another cat?
13:07Unfortunately,
13:08the things that go
13:08with that though
13:09is that she copycats
13:10over markings
13:11that tell you right away
13:12it's Nightfall Catwoman.
13:13The dividing line
13:14right here
13:15where the top
13:15of the thigh boot
13:16would stop.
13:17The line right here
13:18that would mark
13:18that that's the top
13:19of her glove
13:20are all here
13:20over from this figure.
13:22Again,
13:22she has a completely
13:23different torso
13:24and maybe they just
13:25chose to have
13:26a smaller build
13:27necessarily
13:28on the top
13:29of the torso
13:29of a cheetah
13:30because it worked
13:30a little bit better
13:31for the character
13:31but again
13:32both still translate
13:33to feel too small
13:35of a figure.
13:35Now you could say
13:36that Wonder Woman
13:37by nature
13:38by the size
13:38that she is
13:38in the comics
13:39she should be taller
13:40but I feel like
13:41she's too tall
13:42to be compared
13:42with Cheetah.
13:43I don't feel like
13:43Cheetah is as much
13:44of a threat
13:45when she's this
13:45small of a figure.
13:46Just to put my
13:47own questions to rest
13:48I did look online
13:49and when it came
13:50to the size though
13:50of Wonder Woman
13:51the Golden Age
13:52in 1940
13:52she was generally
13:53depicted
13:53as being
13:545'8".
13:54Post-crisis
13:55or in the late 80s
13:56she was then
13:57usually 5'11".
13:59Since then
13:59Wonder Woman
14:00usually is depicted
14:00I think around
14:016'2".
14:02She's a little bit
14:03shorter than
14:03Superman's
14:046'3".
14:05Cheetah though
14:05has generally
14:06been consistently
14:07around 5'9".
14:09Not that it really
14:09matters.
14:10I mean again
14:10you could research
14:10everything.
14:11In the end though
14:12McFarland Toys
14:12did want to use
14:13a body from
14:13a previous figure.
14:15I think though
14:15in the questions
14:16of whether that
14:16was the best
14:17figure to use
14:17I think no.
14:19I mean yes
14:20it is a cat body
14:21so there's irony
14:22not lost on me
14:23the fact that
14:23using a Catwoman
14:24body made the
14:25most sense
14:25for a Cheetah
14:25but is it though?
14:27Maybe if they
14:28had found a
14:28different woman's
14:29body that
14:29didn't have
14:30necessarily the
14:31markings of the
14:31boots and
14:32markings of the
14:32glove I'm sure
14:34there must have
14:34been a figure
14:35that they have
14:35already done
14:36before that
14:37was just a
14:38regular woman's
14:39body or just
14:39create one from
14:40scratch.
14:41Technically
14:41Cheetah could
14:42really be the
14:43one that sets
14:43the bar for
14:44everybody else.
14:45If they made
14:45a basic body
14:47for Cheetah
14:47because essentially
14:48for Cheetah
14:49all it really is
14:50is more markings
14:51than it is
14:51sculpting.
14:52If they sculpted
14:53a completely
14:54bare body
14:55a woman's
14:56body they only
14:57really then needed
14:57to sculpt the
14:58claw hands and
14:59the different
14:59different shaped
15:00feet but then
15:01you could use
15:01that body for
15:02every other
15:03figure moving
15:03forward.
15:04It could be
15:04used then for
15:05Wonder Woman
15:05it could be
15:05used for any
15:06other figure
15:06that has to
15:07be sculpted
15:07with armor
15:08over top of
15:09it.
15:09Cheetah again
15:10could have
15:10been the one
15:10out the gate
15:11to set the
15:12bar for every
15:12other female
15:13figure after
15:13that where the
15:14size would
15:14then be adjusted.
15:16Unfortunately
15:16though with her
15:17being a little
15:17bit short
15:18I mean from
15:19a sizing
15:19standpoint
15:19she doesn't
15:20really size
15:21all that well
15:21with Silver Age
15:22Wonder Woman
15:23if you're looking
15:23to put her
15:24on the shelf
15:24but having
15:25though at least
15:26her part of
15:26my collection
15:27I'm more
15:28unhappier with
15:29the fact they
15:30think she's
15:30too small
15:31but I think
15:32in the end
15:32I'm still
15:32happy that
15:33we finally
15:33have ourselves
15:33a Silver Age
15:34Cheetah.
15:35The swappable
15:36face plates
15:36at least salvages
15:37this figure
15:38a little bit
15:38by having a
15:39different expression
15:40that you can
15:40change a total
15:41rating of three
15:42and she does
15:42also come
15:43with the Crisis
15:44on Infinite Earths
15:45issue number
15:45nine who again
15:46was around
15:47in December
15:481985
15:48December 1985
15:50if I wanted
15:51to date myself
15:52and I will
15:52I would have
15:53been seven
15:54so you know
15:55based on that
15:56I mean that's
15:56simple math
15:57you could date
15:57that back
15:58and know exactly
15:58when I was
15:59born
15:59but were you
16:00around in
16:001985

16:03you guys

16:04Cheetah

16:06bit bigger
16:07let me know
16:07what you think
