00:00This guy got shipped from RAN and he arrived as an EF-5.
00:03Here's a look at the brand new McFarlane Toys.
00:05DC Multiverse, McFarlane Toys Digital, the DC Bronze Age, Red Tornado.
00:09Red Tornado
00:39Justice League, Reddy enjoyed friendship and loyalty.
00:42He took on the human identity John Smith, married Kathy Sutton, and adopted a young orphan, Treya.
00:47I'm sure Dorothy's troubles with Twisters wouldn't be so bad if she was dealing with the likes of Red Tornado.
00:52And before, though, we look at Red Tornado, I'd like to first thank the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did make this review possible.
00:57The figure should be available right now, either in stores, comic book stores, A2, or you can also order this guy online.
01:03We're also going to be bringing in some other examples as well that you guys could all look at with your eyes.
01:07But in the meantime, get a good gander at this.
01:09I'm going to bring in my tape measure just to see how tall the figure stands.
01:11Red Tornado, if I'm looking at this correctly, stands, not including, of course, the tops of his collar, about seven inches.
01:18I think a seven inch is a good guess for how tall the figure stands.
01:21That's going to translate, though, to a figure that's about 17 and a half centimeters tall.
01:26Could you shelf Smith with some of the Justice League?
01:28I don't see why not.
01:29I'm not sure, though, what your lead would look like, but let's bring in, speaking of storms and all, here's what the figure looks like.
01:34With Firestorm, bring in the likes, then, of Adam.
01:37But I get just Adam here to stand.
01:39That's not his real name.
01:40He goes by Adam.
01:41Plastic Man.
01:42He's a good pick there as well.
01:44Again, let's also bring in, there's Hal Jordan from The Course to Green Lantern.
01:47Here's also what he looks like.
01:48I'm trying not to bury him in the process, but here's also what he looks like with Wildcat.
01:52Off in the back there.
01:53He's also being displayed here with Cyborg.
01:55And while we don't have a Supes, we certainly have a Bats.
01:57Here's what the figure looks like with Batman.
01:59Luckily, not the first Tornado, no.
02:00McFarlane did release one before from the Gold Label Collection, where that figure actually had a plastic cape.
02:05So if you missed your chance, I initially had plans to pick up that figure, but then the prices kind of got a little stupid on that.
02:11But this one at least does benefit now from having a fabric cape, so plus already.
02:15The primary colors of yellow that we currently are seeing right now, the original figure would have had that more in gold.
02:19And it would have actually had more of the snaps on the top of the cape.
02:22Very similar to Martian Manhunter.
02:24In fact, I think they probably just used the Martian Manhunter mold to produce their version of that Red Tornado.
02:29He did have still the Buccaneer-style boots, but what he didn't have, though, was the long-length gloves that this now Red Tornado does feature.
02:36The one other thing that does kind of sell the original Gold Label version of him was that he did also come include the red spiraling bottom base.
02:44No, it didn't actually rotate, but it did look like a Red Tornado.
02:47That you could actually take your figure and sit him inside of that.
02:50But I don't know if that's enough for me to spend, again, the prices to try to track one down.
02:55Technically, there was also a spiraling character.
02:56I can't even remember her name from the Black Adam movie line.
02:59She did also come include with a twister bottom base.
03:02I might actually just borrow hers to be displayed with this figure as well.
03:05So again, outside of that, I mean, again, I don't think that they've probably used the body from that previous Tornado to this one here.
03:10It does look like it's a different body, and it does now feature gloves, where the original one only had really just a gold band on his forearms.
03:17This figure does benefit now by having a classic-looking card.
03:21You know, at some point, and I might be the minority to say this, but I really would love at some point if McFarlane could release even just the top half of Red Tornado and the bottom half being a spiraling base.
03:31Would anybody else be invested to get a figure like that?
03:34It's essentially just like a Tornado mermaid, where instead of having the bottom of the tail, it's a spiraling base.
03:40Still, though, I like the look of the card.
03:41I feel like there's a lot of unused opportunity up here, where they may, in fact, could have been moving the figure up just a little bit, the character up a bit,
03:48because it does look like there's a lot of empty space on the top.
03:50Not that I know anything about design.
03:52Not that I know anything about producing figures or trading cards.
03:55Just my own observation.
03:56On the back, though, I can also observe as well that his real name is Android.
04:00It's not really necessarily his name.
04:02And Tom Smith.
04:02That's the name he adopts.
04:04This paragraph read, by the way, I can bring closer, closer, closer, closer to the camera.
04:08Same thing, though, I read at the beginning of this review.
04:10So I sort of have saved you the time to do that.
04:12Nice looking card, though.
04:14Let's move that off to the side.
04:15One additional card that the figure does also come clued with is the McFarlane Toys digital card.
04:19Hey, how about that?
04:21I haven't yet taken the liberty of scratching this off.
04:23If you are, though, interested, you can go to www.mtdgg.
04:29Oh, my.
04:30I need to definitely get reading glasses.
04:31To download the McFarlane Toys digital app for your phone, your Mac, your PC.
04:36Scratch the above to reveal your one-time use code.
04:39Create your account and log in.
04:41Then click to redeem code in the top left corner of the screen and follow the instructions in the pop-up window.
04:46That same level of instructions, the same involved instructions, are both in other languages as well.
04:51I'm obviously only going to read the top.
04:53I need to scratch this, don't I?
04:55Let's grab a key.
04:56I think this is a key to open up a mansion in Resident Evil.
04:59I just happened to find this.
05:00Where do I find these things?
05:01I'm going to use this, though, just to scratch.
05:03Hey, that works out rather easy.
05:05I'm going to scratch, though, the revealing card's number.
05:09I could read this for you if you want.
05:10Maybe don't necessarily just count on me reading it to you, just in case that I think a Q looks like an O, or that a P looks like.
05:16What would a P look like?
05:18I don't know.
05:18You get the idea.
05:19If I read this, though, to you, what I'm reading is Q-A-Y-I-O, or I-0, C-A-E-L-E-W-Q-V-L.
05:30And again, feel free to go and use the code.
05:32You don't have to tell me down below if you've used it.
05:33I don't want, like, the rest of the villagers to take their pitchforks and torches and chase you down the streets.
05:38We're going to move that off to the side.
05:39The figure does also come in clear with the display stand.
05:42Let's go through what we got for original display stands.
05:45This would be the original DC logo stand.
05:47DC, psst, branded in black.
05:49Then the later released, or the newer stuff that we're getting now, we get this type of display stand.
05:53Psst, branded in sort of a silver color.
05:56Now we get here, at least with the McFarlane Toys Digital, the same use of stand.
06:00But now what we get, though, instead is it's printed.
06:03Psst, branded in McFarlane Toys Digital.
06:06It works, though, the same way in walking distance.
06:08There's the pig right there that can plug into either one of Red Tornado's boots.
06:12Four minutes down.
06:12Four minutes down.
06:13Have we even spent the time to talk about the figure?
06:16We are doing that right now.
06:17The figure, he does come in clear with a pair of closed fists.
06:21My observation of this seems like these hands are really rather small.
06:25If you look at, though, the size of the hands and then you look at his open hands, do they seem like they are the same?
06:31Maybe they are.
06:31I mean, like, the portion of the palm seems like it's the same size.
06:35And I guess if you close up the fingers, I don't know.
06:37It seems like the hand's a little bit small.
06:40Swapping out the hands, though, is just a case of holding onto the forearm.
06:43Wiggle.
06:43Pop that off.
06:45Find the hand that you want to use and plug that in place.
06:47One thing, though, I did want to make observant is that these gloves you can also slide off as well.
06:52Now, what I do think, though, is clever, attention to detail and all, if you choose, you want to leave the glove portion off, like this piece right here.
07:00They did technically finish the yellow line all the way down to the end of the forearm.
07:04They didn't have to.
07:05I mean, really, if this is going to be covering over anyways, they could have just abruptly stopped it.
07:09Well, maybe not right there because you may have been able to see the space between the end of the line and where the plastic begins.
07:14But had they maybe just finished it right there, they could have saved just a little bit of the budget, printing a steady, steady line all the way down to the wrist.
07:22But the fact that they actually painted that in there, well done.
07:25Well done, team.
07:26I don't work for the team.
07:28I just, well done.
07:29Well done.
07:29Well done.
07:30So, yeah, swapping out the hands.
07:31You know, it does seem, though, like he's got a slightly smaller hand on this side than the bigger hand that he has on the other.
07:38But those are the only unfortunate accessories that come included with him.
07:41Now, with the original Red Tornado, I think still that they probably used the Martian Manhunter mold because he actually did have the little discs to keep kind of his cape at bay, even though really the cape on that figure would have all been molded in plastic.
07:54I never even picked up the classic Martian Manhunter either.
07:57So I'm hoping, though, now that we've got ourselves a Bronze Age version of Red Tornado, they might maybe follow suit, maybe not in these colors, though, and release a Martian Manhunter essentially looking the same.
08:07I have an attachment to Red Tornado, and I'll tell you why.
08:10As a kid, my grandparents would frequently visit Shell, Shell Gas Station, Shell, Petro-Canada.
08:17One of the many things that we had is, you know, as a Canadian growing up in the 80s.
08:20But Shell, one thing that they were always known for doing was releasing premiums for kids.
08:25So they would release, like, GoBots.
08:27As you filled up your tank for gas, they would give you GoBots.
08:30Occasionally, though, you'd be able to pick up superpowers figures.
08:32No, I'm not flipping you the bird.
08:33They'd give you superpowers figures.
08:34Of course, you had to buy them at the time of filling up your tank.
08:37But there was a lot of times, though, that my grandparents would bring home a superpowers figure that they got at the gas station.
08:43What are they even doing now when they're just hiking up the prices and gouging consumers with the price of gas?
08:49But Red Tornado, Firestorm, and Martian Manhunter, I think, were the three that I remember specifically being released through Shell.
08:56So I have a real fond attachment here to Red Tornado, and I think the figure just looks really good.
09:01I like the cape.
09:02One kind of weird thing about the cape, though, is that he has a wire, but the wire is only really on the collar.
09:09So you could manipulate that, sure, fine and good on the top.
09:12But everything else from that point, there's no wire at all seamed into the side.
09:17Every once in a while, though, we get ourselves a fabric cape from McFarlane where there isn't actually a wire sewn in the seam.
09:24I don't know why specifically some capes have it and other capes don't.
09:27The cape looks good.
09:28And again, I like that they added the red trim here.
09:30Maybe it's just because the trim.
09:32I mean, if you look at the bottom of this, there seems, though, enough space that they could technically have put a wire into this.
09:38And yet this figure doesn't have it.
09:39So the cape's always going to sit really wide out.
09:42There's no real way to adjust it.
09:44Faceculpt looks good, though.
09:45Faceculpt does look good for Red Tornado here.
09:49I like that they've gone in there and colored the eyes.
09:51Now, I think, like, the original gold label collection did have slightly more darker eyes.
09:56It also had, like, the little arrow sign there on the top of his head.
09:59Again, all would have been done in gold.
10:01Now we get more of the brighter colors of the blue, the red, and the trimming in yellow.
10:05Tornado, or T, there on the top there that runs all the way down to his belt.
10:09The colors of the gloves look really good.
10:11I mean, obviously, there are some areas and aspects that they have molded here in yellow plastic.
10:14And then there's other aspects that they've painted in yellow.
10:17I think what we get, though, at the painted end of things looks pretty clean.
10:20And there's also a banding right here along the top of his head.
10:22And I think, paint-wise, that's been done really well as well.
10:26Yeah, not real any problems, I would say, when it certainly comes to Red Tornado's build.
10:30He's got, again, the buccaneer top buckles of his boots.
10:32I guess those really aren't necessarily buckles.
10:34And really, again, very cleanly applied paint running down.
10:39Running down the strips on the fronts of his boots.
10:42I don't know if, again, I would really find any real fault to the figure.
10:45I mean, there are color matching on some of the aspects.
10:48Like the trunks, for example, don't seem to be quite the same bright color that he uses here.
10:52Kind of this cherry taffy color for the top of his torso.
10:55Doesn't seem to have as bright of that, it seems like, from, like, the waist down.
10:58Does seem like his legs are a little darker than the top.
11:01Doesn't seem like they're really quite the same color as the top of his arms either.
11:05So it does really seem like this half of his body is much brighter.
11:08The lower half of his body is dark and gloomy.
11:11For the figure's articulation, though, going back first to his head.
11:15Head's going to be on a ball joint.
11:16And what goes with that?
11:17Well, the fact with the ball joint, you can do all the way this.
11:20Now, you can't do this with a normal human being.
11:22Luckily, though, Red Tornado is just an android anyways.
11:25Head can move up.
11:26It can move down.
11:27What?
11:29What?
11:29You can do that as well.
11:31Top of the torso is on a ball joint.
11:32The lower abdomen area is also the same.
11:36Arms rotate all the way around.
11:37Now, again, they have the little cup joint here.
11:39It isn't so much so a joint.
11:41It's just to kind of cover off the fact that you don't now see a gap inside.
11:44But the arms can pull out a 90-degree angle bend or your T-pose.
11:48T-pose.
11:50Figure does have a swivel in his bicep, a double hinge on his elbow.
11:54Flex those biceps.
11:55Flex those biceps.
11:56And the figure does have a swivel in his hand.
11:58Even though, again, like I feel his hands a little small.
12:02For his legs, they are in ratcheted joints.
12:04No issues there at all.
12:05I like the sound, of course, that it does also make as well.
12:07You can take those legs and move forward.
12:09Move them back.
12:11Swivel at the top of the thigh, but only just a little bit.
12:13Un petit peu.
12:14The figure does.
12:15Oh, oh, Francais.
12:16Ah, un petit peu.
12:18Double hinge on the knee.
12:20There is no articulation here for the boot.
12:22This has actually just been applied over top of essentially the molding here of the calf.
12:28I don't know, though, if you'd be able to move these around.
12:30I mean, again, they probably would be permanently molded as part of the press.
12:33And because, again, like if they've already got these legs and this essential torso, I
12:37already feel like we're going to be getting ourselves a Bronze Age version of Martian Manhunter.
12:42Again, just essentially using the same body.
12:44Ankle pivots up and down.
12:45Ankle rockers back and forth.
12:46And the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
12:49Good looking red tornado.
12:51Bit perhaps biased saying this because, again, like for me, back in the day, I never had a
12:55Superman.
12:55I never had a Batman for superpowers figures.
12:58I had all sort of the characters that would have been left behind on the pegs.
13:01But Shell Gas Station, again, had like Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado to finally
13:07now have a larger scale Red Tornado.
13:09Yes, it doesn't have a little, I keep saying spiraling base.
13:12Please don't think that that means that the base actually rotated.
13:15But the original, though, gold label collection Red Tornado did, again, have a different body.
13:19It did have, instead of the yellow, it had more so the gold.
13:22And it did also have, you know, again, like the little twister base that you could attach
13:25the figure onto that.
13:27I don't know if we'll ever get maybe another release of that down the road.
13:29Maybe they could release like the top half, like a mermaid Red Tornado.
13:33What would be a mermaid that flipped around the other way?
13:35Just a fish head and lady legs?
13:37How unsettling would that be?
13:39But if they released maybe like a spiraling base bottom for Red Tornado, I'd pick it up.
13:43I'd still pick it up.
13:44I like the look of the figure.
13:45I mean, if you're collecting League specifically and you want to get your Justice League all
13:48together, I think Red Tornado is not one that I would pick up right away.
13:52I mean, I think most people would probably not say right away.
13:54Like he's top tier when it comes to Justice League members.
13:58You probably would choose a lot more before you get to a Tornado, but I think he's certainly
14:02a well-welcomed addition.
14:03Like if you're kind of trying to complete the League, whatever, again, your lineup would
14:06necessarily be.
14:07I think he certainly does make for a good stand-in character.
14:10One that, again, I'm sure they're probably going to be using his body again, perhaps
14:14for a Martian Manhunter, because essentially they really wouldn't have to change anything
14:17at all.
14:18The one thing, though, I would hope that if they do release a Bronze or a Silver Age Martian
14:22Manhunter at some point steps down the road, that they then add a wire built into
14:27the cave.
14:27It's maybe the one thing that I wish they could have changed the Red Tornado, but everything
14:31else from the head to the toe, living or not, I think Red Tornado is a great-looking pickup
14:36and a great release from McFarlane Toys.
14:38Because I can't remember every character, I had to consult old Google, and it was Black
14:41Adam Cyclone.
14:43Ah, yeah, Cyclone.
14:44Not the most memorable of characters, but one of the more memorable figures.
14:47She did come include with the Cyclone base.
14:49I think the more that I look at that, though, it's the exact same base that came with the gold
14:53label collection Red Tornado.
14:54So it might just end up boring her, she's not using it anyway, she's sitting somewhere
14:58inside of a tote, and I might give it instead to the Superior Cyclone Red Tornado.
15:02Granted, though, Red Tornado's, the original one that came with the gold label collection
15:05was a red version of that, but I think I can live with the fact it's a clear base.
15:09I don't want to have to then track and spend the money to get the other Red Tornado, when
15:13I think this is the better of the two anyways.
15:15I like the more primary colors of, well, not that I necessarily would look at the red taffy
15:19colored red and say that that's a primary red.
15:22Anybody would, I'm sure, argue that.
15:23But we get, like, the primary reds, the primary yellows, and now the blue.
15:27It's weird, though, that, again, the cape, they don't have a wire, like, seamed into the
15:31seams of the side of the cape.
15:33You would think that that would be something that would just be the norm.
15:35I'm wondering, though, if it's a specific material.
15:38If it's more of a cloth material, then they end up sewing in the wire.
15:41If it's a material like this, where it's kind of a nylon, maybe they choose not to do
15:46that, because it's, maybe it's something that rips over time, it's a harder thing to
15:49stitch.
15:50I don't know.
15:51Again, it says the guy behind the camera that doesn't make action figures for a living.
15:55Maybe I should, though.
15:56One thing I will say, though, as a non-expert when it comes to producing action figures,
15:59I think they produced a really nice-looking Red Tornado.
16:02The colors aren't 100% matching.
16:04The arms and the torso, you'll notice, is a brighter of this red color to the lower end of
16:08his body.
16:09But I think they've done well enough to paint the stripes all in yellow.
16:13I don't know if they've done that by hand.
16:14They probably have done that by a machine, but the machine has done a nice enough job
16:17of doing that, not only in several coats of the yellow, so it doesn't look like the red
16:21is seeping through, but that they have also done it underneath the gloves.
16:25That would be one place that you wouldn't check.
16:27Unless you're looking under the hood, you would never know to think that they've striped
16:31that all the way down to the wrist, or even the fact that the gloves come off, if it
16:34wasn't for reviews like this.
16:36Big thank you again to the folks over at McFarland Toys that did provide this sample of the Bronze
16:40Age, DC Multiverse Bronze Age Red Tornado that we had the chance.
16:44Have a look at this review.
16:45I'm sure, though, if he hasn't already been planned, this mold will be used again for
16:49a Martian Manhunter.
16:50What do you guys think of the figure?
16:51Let me know down below in the comments section.
16:53One that you've picked up?
16:54One that you're going to pass on?
16:55One that's still on your radar?
16:57If you guys did enjoy this video, you can do it a solid throw to like.
17:00You guys want to stick around for more?
17:01So, I hope so.
17:02Hey, we're doing a whole lot of DC Multiverse this week.
17:05You notice that too.
17:06We've got more on the way, though.
17:07So if that's your bread and butter, and you'd like to come back to this channel, I certainly hope
17:10that you will.
17:11More videos will be coming your way.
17:12As always, thanks for watching.
17:14See you guys next time.
