00:00Let me guess, not a lot of reflective surfaces down in the sewer, huh?
00:04Here's your look at the brand new McFarlane toys, DC Multiverse, Batman Returns the Penguin.
00:23The sequel to Batman pits the Caped Crusader against the most fiendish opponents yet,
00:27the evil penguin, and the cineous and mysterious Catwoman.
00:30I really hope nobody's brought eggs and tomatoes to this review.
00:32I'm wearing a new shirt too.
00:34How about instead of throwing things at me, we instead consider the idea that I throw things at you,
00:38like specifically the numbers in centimeters and inches for how tall the Batman Returns Penguin stands.
00:43Does that sound good?
00:45I hope so.
00:46It is a new shirt.
00:47For how tall he's going to stand first in inches, you're looking at the penguin being about five and three quarters.
00:52In centimeters though, you're looking at him being about 14 and a half centimeters tall.
00:57Some progress has been made for this wave so far.
00:59We started reviews this week, in fact, at looking at the Batman Returns Michael Keaton Batman.
01:04Shortly then after that, we also looked at the Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman.
01:07Why are we spending so much time putting everything over here?
01:10Well, I did also want to free up then some space to bring in some other examples of Oswald Cobblepot.
01:15Not the nicest looking Oswald, but we did get ourselves an Arkham City or Arkham Asylum version of him.
01:20And we also, of course, got the classic version, one of my all-time favorites.
01:23What different really is the trading card or the display stand that comes in clear with Cobblepot.
01:27The figure, first of all, does come in clear with the display stand.
01:29Again, like, where's the example that I can bring in?
01:32Here's one over here.
01:33The stand themselves, this happened to be Catwoman's.
01:35I don't think it really, really matters anyways.
01:37But you can see, like, the stands themselves are almost exactly the same.
01:40This does seem like it's a little bit of a darker black.
01:42But, I mean, it could just be really the way that it's pressed in plastic.
01:46Pressed also in plastic and walking distance.
01:48Both of them do have pegs.
01:49Wow, they're in the exact same spot.
01:50To think.
01:52And this can, of course, plug into either one of Cobblepot's feet.
01:55The figure does also come in clear with the trading card.
01:57And I'm disappointed still that it's not so much the fact that the front is the same.
02:01Because, again, like, if you have yourself the Catwoman and you have yourself the Batman.
02:05Do I have these right?
02:05No, I have it the other way around.
02:07Come on, man.
02:07Get yourself together.
02:09This was the Catwoman.
02:10This was the Batman.
02:11I mean, if you show these to anybody, you're looking basically at the exact same three cards.
02:15The poster is fine for the front.
02:17I wish, though, still on the back, they could include something a little bit different.
02:20If you look at, really, the read-up, the read-ups are all exactly the same.
02:24Sure, it does have Cobblepot there on the top.
02:26It does have Selina Kyle.
02:27Of course, it does have Batman.
02:28But there's nothing really at all outside.
02:30If I was to basically put my hand above each card, you would have a hard time really being
02:35able to tell which card is which, other than just knowing the order I've got them displayed
02:38right now in.
02:40I think when it comes to putting these in trading card sheets, I'll likely probably just
02:44triple it up.
02:45Probably even quadruple it up when we look at Maxwell Shrek, too.
02:48Just, again, like they're all exactly the same.
02:49What's different, though, at least, is that Cobblepot does come in clear with his hat.
02:53The hat does go fit on top of his head.
02:55I mean, where else would a hat go?
02:57Get your mind out of the gutter.
02:58The hat does fit on top of his head.
03:00Now, one thing I really worry, though, about is that if this will start to scrape the plastic,
03:04or specifically the paint.
03:06He's got an ugly mug anyways, but it would get, even though more uglier, if I have to worry
03:10about a big black streak across the top of his forehead.
03:13It works more with friction, so you're just going to have to kind of force it down on his head.
03:17And does it survive the blizzard test?
03:19Yes, it does.
03:20It does.
03:22But again, like, if you take this off, over time, though, will that start to develop a line?
03:27Just an ugly line right across the top of his forehead.
03:31We'll get back to that in a second.
03:32The figure does also come included.
03:34Just stand for a second.
03:35The handle is designed in such a way that it's all molded, first of all, in black plastic.
03:57It doesn't look like there's any additional afforded paint that goes to the handle, to
04:01the point, or anything of the umbrella or parasol in between.
04:05Here's what I was talking about, though.
04:07On one side, though, the penguin does have flippers.
04:10Well, he has flippers anyways.
04:11The other side is really the one that's going to be doing all the work.
04:14And even then, if you look at the grip of this, it's going to be a very difficult thing
04:18for him to hold the handle.
04:19Well, it isn't so much an issue when, say, for example, you want to take the handle and
04:24wedge it down his hand.
04:26It seems to hold it fine that way.
04:28As I struggle, as I struggle, as I struggle.
04:30There you go.
04:31You can hold it that way.
04:32But the moment comes, though, when you go to take the handle of it and do the same thing.
04:37Definitely, I would recommend heating this, though, in hot water.
04:39You would think that I would take my own advice, and yet I didn't.
04:42I didn't.
04:43But yeah, it does fit in his hand.
04:45It just fits very tightly, as you can see right there.
04:48I do kind of wish, though, that they could have included another umbrella.
04:52I mean, is that expecting a lot?
04:53We do also get a penguin that comes included with a rubber duck car, which we also will
04:57be looking eventually at some point, too.
04:59It's a different outfit, so it's going to have basically the outfit that he wears in
05:03the sewer.
05:04This is kind of more his mayor outfit.
05:07I keep thinking, though, that we see him with more of the monocle throughout more of
05:11the movie than he does.
05:12I think there's only actually one scene where he's got the monocle, because I was thinking
05:15for a second.
05:16I really wish this guy could have come included with a monocle.
05:18But I think it's just my bad memory.
05:20If you go back and watch the movie again, I don't think there's that often at a time
05:24that he actually has the monocle on his eye.
05:26But still, though, if you want to complete the look, we'll go ahead and get the hat back
05:29on top of his head.
05:31It looks good.
05:32I like the look of a penguin.
05:33I don't think his face is the most perfect, but I think it's pretty good, though, for a
05:38Danny DeVito penguin.
05:39Now, this one does have, then, the jacket that he wears out on the town when he's strolling
05:43the streets.
05:44The jacket, I feel, though, while being a nice material, it's kind of more of like
05:48a wool.
05:49It sticks really well, too.
05:50I feel like it probably could have been a little bit of a darker gray than what we get
05:54here.
05:54Now, there is, actually, if you get the penguin commandos, that also comes included with the
05:59jacket that he wears in the sewer, because the one with the rubber duck car doesn't, I don't
06:03think, come included with the jacket, but the jacket comes with the penguin commandos.
06:07That's the upsell.
06:08So, you buy the other figures, too.
06:10If you wanted to, though, you could take the jacket off, just in case, again, like just
06:13bringing his arms back just a bit and sliding them off the sleeve.
06:17Wow, that was easy.
06:18It was easy.
06:19There's the inside of the jacket, by the way.
06:20Nice little furry top to the collar.
06:22Move that off to the side.
06:23So, again, if you want to have penguin displayed without it.
06:25So, I don't know, I kind of feel, though, like if, when I do eventually look at the
06:29car, I think I would likely display that figure.
06:35What was my train of thought?
06:35I was probably going to be displaying that figure, I think, without the jacket.
06:39I feel like this one, I would always display him with the jacket, just because I don't
06:42think I'd see him that often without it.
06:45Seems like I remember him having it more so on than off.
06:49Still, though, it gives you a chance to see everything looking, what it looks like underneath.
06:52I mean, again, he's got himself the vest.
06:54The vest is all one piece.
06:55So, like, this is all hard plastic.
06:57He's got, of course, his tie there up the top there as well.
07:00Like, it's a good-looking penguin.
07:01It's short, too.
07:02Obviously, it has to be short.
07:03If you compare, like, with the likes of Batman, I think size-wise, that's pretty close.
07:09He doesn't come with the ungloved hands.
07:12I guess that could be one thing.
07:14Of course, too, if you wanted to swap them out, I'm sure you probably could swap it out
07:18with the other penguin, because I think that other penguin also is going to have non-gloved
07:21flippers.
07:23For the detail overall, though, again, like, the figure looks pretty good.
07:26He does have pegels in the bottoms of his feet.
07:27Does he stand okay on his own?
07:29He stands okay.
07:30He is, though, a little front-heavy for obvious reasons.
07:33He's a little, you know, a little fuller in the stomach.
07:35But he does seem to stand fine.
07:36He actually stands a lot better than Selina Kyle's Catwoman.
07:39For the articulation, though, for penguin, let's go ahead and take his hat back off.
07:43Head's going to be on a ball joint, although I say that very loosely.
07:46I mean, yeah, the head rotates all the way around, but anything after that, it moves only
07:50up by just a little bit.
07:52There's a good side profile of him, by the way.
07:55Maybe I would probably have changed the mouth.
07:57I think that's one thing that makes him look like he seems like he's been put on parade,
08:01or everybody's kind of looking at him right now, and he feels a little awkward.
08:05But again, like, other than that, I think the paint's pretty good on him.
08:07He's got a little bit of more of that lighter purple on top of his forehead.
08:10A lot of that additional purple all around his face.
08:13Some could maybe make the valid argument that there's a lot of unnecessary purple on there
08:17and didn't need to be as much.
08:18I don't think it's that bad, though.
08:20For the rest of the figure's articulation, though, his arms rotate all the way around.
08:24You can bring, though, those arms out at a T-pose or 90-degree angle bend.
08:29The figure does also have a swivel in his bicep, a double hinge on the elbow, and the hands
08:33rotate all the way around.
08:35There's a hinge there, too.
08:36I can't forget the hinge.
08:38Upper torso's going to be on a ball joint.
08:39Being so self-contained like this, he still manages to pull this off.
08:43The legs split out.
08:46And you, of course, can take the legs and move them forward.
08:48You can move them back.
08:49This whole lower section, by the way, is very soft plastic.
08:52I mean, look how far in my finger actually goes.
08:55That's a thumb.
08:56I know.
08:56It's a thumb.
08:57It's still part of it.
08:58I still think it's part of the finger family.
09:00But it goes in quite a bit.
09:02All soft plastic.
09:03Moving it forward, though, his legs get a little more hung up.
09:06And also the back as well.
09:08There's a little swivel there at the top of the thigh.
09:09A little swivel goes a long way.
09:11But single bend at the knee.
09:12The lower leg does at least rotate.
09:14And there's hinge up and down.
09:15An ankle rocker.
09:16And the figure does also have toe articulation.
09:19You know, whether, again, you feel the need that the figure doesn't necessarily have to
09:21have toe articulation.
09:22He still has it.
09:24And it's a good-looking penguin.
09:25Like, for me at least, though, I think I'm probably going to always display this figure with
09:29the jacket.
09:29I don't know why my memory still seems to think that this guy always should have really
09:32had a monocle.
09:34I think there's only just that one scene.
09:35Maybe there's two scenes.
09:36Is there the scene where he's going in and he's looking at, like, the birth documents?
09:40Maybe he had the monocle for that.
09:41I think also when he goes up to present as the mayor might be also the only other time
09:45that he also wears the monocle.
09:46I'm sure somebody will let me know down below in the comments section.
09:48Either way, though, with or without the monocle, he does still come in clue with his
09:52top hat.
09:53He still comes in clue with a really nice-looking jacket.
09:55I still think the jacket probably could have been a little bit more of a darker gray than
09:58what we're actually getting right here.
09:59But, you know, with the two penguins that we're getting here, one with being the rubber
10:03duck car and then, of course, the one with the jacket here, this would also be, again,
10:08a great display piece.
10:10I think for me, like, even though the penguin commandos, which, again, they'll kind of do
10:13things, you know, obviously would look at the penguin commandos, then we'll eventually
10:16look at the rubber duck car.
10:18Those two things, one would work well with the other because, again, like, you're only going
10:21to get that jacket with the penguins if you want to have it displayed with the rubber
10:25duck car penguin.
10:26Because, again, like, that rubber duck car penguin is going to be the one that, you
10:30know, kind of in his onesie, that weird-looking onesie that he wears when he's underneath,
10:34you know, underneath the city streets of Gotham City.
10:37But, again, like, for me displaying this guy, I don't know if I would end up displaying
10:40him without the jacket.
10:41It just seems to make more sense for him to have it.
10:43So, for me displaying him on the shelf, he's going to have the umbrella, he's going to
10:46have the jacket, he's going to have the top hat.
10:49Gotta fly.
10:50But before I do, let's wrap up, though, the review for Oswald, Cobblepot, or Penguin if you
10:54prefer.
10:56Unfortunately, though, the figure doesn't have his parasol.
10:57The parasol doesn't have a person.
10:59Because, unfortunately, with only having one gripping hand, Oswald Cobblepot can only
11:03hold one accessory at a time.
11:05I did, though, want to show you that you can take the rim of the top hat and it does fit
11:08inside his extremely small grip.
11:11Unfortunately, though, it does mean that he doesn't have a means to hold any other accessories.
11:15I've got also the figure displayed without the jacket.
11:17For me, I would rather have, really, the jacket on him.
11:20Um, I think, though, like, when, again, we eventually look at the rubber duck, a penguin
11:24that's going to come included with his vehicle, that one also doesn't have a jacket at its
11:28time of getting him out of the packaging.
11:30However, though, I think I'm going to probably do things out of order.
11:32I'm going to look at the penguin commandos first, because that was the hardest set to
11:35come by.
11:37That's also going to come included with the jacket that he wears down in the sewer lair.
11:40So, if you do end up picking up that penguin that does come included with his vehicle,
11:45you could really, in theory, then use the jacket that comes with the penguins.
11:48For the head sculpt, though, I think, between the two penguins, without really having the
11:51other one opened up just yet, it's hard to be able to show you one without the other.
11:55I think they're very similar, though, in head sculpts.
11:57So, there's one thing that is different between the two.
11:59It's the outfit that he wears.
12:01I still think there's an opportunity, room to grow when it comes to another release of
12:04Oswald.
12:05I think, if anything, they probably could release another one.
12:08Maybe with the jacket, maybe without the jacket, but with a monocle in his eye.
12:11I'm still hooked on the monocle, aren't I?
12:13But I think that could also be an opportunity to include the helicopter umbrella, which
12:18we actually see as well, when Penguin utters the phrase, gotta fly, and he flies away after
12:22a Catwoman.
12:23But what do you guys, though, think of Penguin?
12:25Let me know down below in the comments section.
12:26If you have the choice, and you've picked this figure up, do you have him displayed
12:29with or without the jacket on him?
12:31I gotta say, though, I'm at least happy that McFarlane chose to release this figure with
12:36a fabric-removable jacket, rather than confining him with a plastic jacket, similar to the one
12:42that we've looked at before from the Arkham City series.
12:46But if you guys are also interested, this guy should be available right now, either in
12:49stores or online.
12:50I had to choose rather the opposite, because unfortunately, I can't find him either in
12:53stores and online.
12:54Doesn't seem to be...
12:55I can't seem to find anything that's listed for him.
12:58But at least, though, I did luck out.
12:59I found him on the Facebook selling group, and I got this guy from Papa the Toyman.
13:03Boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
13:05A name you've heard before.
13:06I'm sure a name you'll hear again, because we're going to also be mentioning that name again when
13:10we look at also Maxwell Shrek and the Penguin Commandos.
13:13All this week, I'm going to be a busy man.
13:15I am.
13:16I'm always a busy man.
13:17There's definitely going to be more Batman Returns reviews coming your way.
13:20In the meantime, though, let's not move ahead to looking forward.
13:22Let's stick for the now.
13:24If you enjoyed the video you just watched now, why don't you do us all and throw it a
13:27like?
13:27You guys want to stick around for more so?
13:29I hope so.
13:30Hit the subscribe, turn on the bell, and of course, come back.
13:32There's going to be more videos coming your way.
13:34As always, thanks for watching.
13:35See you guys next time.
13:40See you guys next time.
