00:00He may be good at making mayors, but he's horrible at keeping secretaries.
00:03Here's a look at the Brandon McFarlane toys.
00:05DC Multiverse, The Batman Returns, Red Platinum Edition, Max Schreck.
00:23The sequel of Batman pits the Caped Crusader against the most fiendish opponents yet,
00:26the evil penguin, and the cineous and mysterious catwoman.
00:30Sure, the schmo may not be Santa, but we still got lucky getting a Max Schreck from the Batman Returns line.
00:35Before we get down to the details, let's get to Walken with the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:40Not honestly, though, the first time we've gotten a Christopher Walken McFarlane toys figure.
00:44In fact, if you remember years ago, we also got a sleepy, hollow, headless horseman
00:48that did in fact come include a decapitated Walken head.
00:51As for how tall the figure is going to stand, I'm going to not only count the head,
00:54but the rest of the body is connected to it as well.
00:56You're looking at Max Schreck standing 7 inches in height.
00:59That's going to work out to be a figure that's 18 centimeters tall.
01:02Progress?
01:02Well, I like to think we've made some progress.
01:04At the beginning of this week, in fact, we started these reviews,
01:06and already we've looked at the Batman Returns, Michael Keane, Batman.
01:09Shortly then after that, we had a look at the Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman.
01:12Meow.
01:12And recently, just recently, we also looked at the Danny DeVito Penguin.
01:16You may notice, though, I've got the jacket left off currently.
01:18I've done the same for his top hat.
01:20The top hat, though, would have given him still some height,
01:22but it still clearly makes him the shortest of the figures we've looked at so far.
01:26What confuses me about Max Schreck is that they've labeled this guy Red Platinum Edition.
01:30Usually, though, Red Platinum denotes that there's going to be something changed to an initial figure that was released,
01:35where new heads or something was added on top of the figure.
01:38As far as I know, though, Max Schreck has not gotten any other release than the Red Platinum that you're looking at currently.
01:43He seems pretty barren, though, when it also comes to the accessory counts,
01:46only really having his swapped-out, shocked face that he has at the end of the film.
01:49Before, though, we look at that, let's look, though, at the card that he comes included with.
01:53Hey, I recognize you.
01:54This is the poster art, of course, of Batman Returns with the bat, the cat, and the penguin.
01:59It doesn't really change at all.
02:01I mean, pick a card, any card.
02:02The cards are all going to be basically the same from the front.
02:05They only change by just a little bit if you look at the images in the top corners,
02:09where, of course, you've got yourself Batman, you've got Penguin, you've got Catwoman, and now you've got Max Schreck.
02:13Other than that, though, all the read-ups are exactly the same.
02:17So if you look at this one, and then you continue your journey along looking at all the other cards underneath it,
02:22all the read-ups are going to be exactly the same.
02:25I do kind of wish, though, that they could have had something more related to the characters.
02:28It's not just, though, a case that they can just reprint the new cards,
02:31because, again, they have to still go in there and change the names.
02:34They have to also add the image on the top corner there.
02:37So some changes obviously have to be made to the cards.
02:39If they're going to go to the steps of doing that, why not then go to the steps of adding them additional read-up material
02:45for each of the characters relating to the film?
02:48Still, though, let's move these cards off to the side.
02:50Max Schreck does also come and include with a display stand.
02:53Display stand, again, doesn't change all that much.
02:55I'm just going to bring the example in, the one that we got here from Batman.
02:58Exactly the same.
02:58This one seems a little bit brighter, but, again, I don't think much other than that is going to be changing between the stands themselves.
03:04Again, in walking distance, there is the peg right there.
03:06I can plug into either one of Max Schreck's feet.
03:11Lastly, though, the figure does also come and include, I wouldn't want to really say that it's a spoiler,
03:15because considering this movie came out in the early 90s, I'm sure by now everybody has already seen the film.
03:20Max Schreck, though, does get a kiss, not from Sandy Claws, but, of course, from a shocker.
03:24He gets the taser there in between Catwoman and Max Schreck.
03:28She sort of leans in for the kiss and puts the shocking right in the middle of that.
03:32So what ends up resulting is Max Schreck gets a fright, a shock for Christmas, but probably not the shock that he was looking for.
03:39The head's called the hand he's swapped out with the head that he has currently right now.
03:43Again, I kind of really feel like if this was going to be a red platinum edition, this would probably be then the included accessory.
03:48But, again, I don't think Max Schreck has had any other release than the one that already has this swapped out head.
03:53By the way, though, FYI, this figure seems to be going some stupid money online.
03:57Between this one and the Penguin Commandos, those seem to be the most expensive figures so far.
04:01I think even like Catwoman is starting to kind of go back up in price.
04:05So if you are interested to get these anywhere for yourself, I know this is certainly something I would kind of leave to the end of this review.
04:09But if you are interested to start grabbing these figures, start grabbing them now before the prices go even higher.
04:15We're going to put this head sculpt on Max Schreck in a second, though.
04:18Let's go ahead and pick the figure up and get a closer look at him.
04:20Now, I did say already, not the first time we've gotten ourselves a Christopher Walken head.
04:24This one does certainly look the most like Walken.
04:27I like it.
04:28There are a few things, though, that kind of have me puzzled.
04:31Like if you look on the side of his face, for example, he's got these smeared marks.
04:35He has a little bit also on his forehead as well, where they've added some additional gray.
04:39I don't know why they felt the need to add that, because the face was fine as it is.
04:43He has very large looking eyebrows.
04:46Look at these caterpillars.
04:47Where are they going?
04:48They're just above his eyes.
04:49I think his eyes are really nicely done, too.
04:50They seem like they're a little pale.
04:52But overall, I think the head sculpt looks really good on it.
04:55Again, the only thing I really don't like is that they've added all this additional gray on the side of his face.
05:01You see it here.
05:02When I turn the figure's head around, you can also see it here as well.
05:06And he's got it along the top.
05:07It just seems unnecessary.
05:09They could have just left that off altogether and would have been landing a perfect looking likeness of Christopher Walken and Max Shrek.
05:16Shrek does change his costume a couple of times in the film.
05:18I think this is probably the best one to go with, his pinstripe jacket, his matching pants down below, and his jacket he wears over top of this.
05:25At the beginning, though, when he's handing out the presents to Gotham City during his speech, he wears more like a furry jacket.
05:30And then he also has like more of a black shirt, I should say black shirt, a suit top, and suit pants.
05:36I don't know if that may be a figure that we could get down the road.
05:38I mean, I think, if anything, if they're going to do another version of Max Shrek, give us that version of him.
05:44Again, the jacket, I don't think, would have to be changed all that much.
05:46They probably would have to retool this part of the collar.
05:49We're adding the furry trim along the top.
05:51And then, again, just they would only have to change the coloring of this so it's not the pinstripe.
05:55The way they've done the pinstripes, though, it looks pretty clean.
05:58This would be a point of paint, obviously, that if you look all around him, there could be some little messed up mistakes.
06:04Like the paint, it's generally handled pretty well.
06:06There's a few, there's one area right here in the back, but to be fair, though, really, the jacket's covering over top of it anyway.
06:12So you'd never really even notice it.
06:14The one only other thing that I have a concern with when it comes to Max Shrek's design is that he's very boxy in the shoulders.
06:21I know, though, he's got himself a jacket and maybe likelihood, though, the jacket does have like shoulder pads in it.
06:26But it does make, though, for the top of the figure being very, very squared off, where I wish, though, that the jacket was a little bit more tapered down.
06:33Now, knowing, though, where his arms are probably would be a hard thing anyways, because this jacket technically is a piece that goes over top of the existing suit.
06:41This suit, I'm sure, that we've seen before, maybe from one of the Jokers, perhaps, and that they would have only needed to add then a jacket over top of it.
06:48I mean, it looks good.
06:50I mean, there's nothing really at all from a complaint standpoint, I would say.
06:52I mean, if they do eventually do another release of Walken, if they could also add the glasses that he has at the beginning of the movie, maybe even give him the hat that he has as well.
06:59But I think this is a good starting point, certainly, for the figure.
07:03The only thing that's a bit of a bummer, though, is the fact that, again, the figure doesn't have any other accessories other than just the head that you're looking at right now, and then the shot head that he comes included with as well.
07:14Changing out the head, though, by the way, is just a case of holding onto the torso.
07:16Don't let go, whatever you do.
07:18Just pop the head from the ball joint.
07:19Oh, not pop off the entire neck.
07:21This has happened a couple of times to me.
07:23One problem, though, with this figure is what just happened right now.
07:27Now, he has a ball joint, but the ball joint, the way they've actually attached the neck, I wanted really honestly to glue this, but I thought to myself, okay, well, maybe if the neck just stays in place, but it doesn't look like it's going to stay in place.
07:39I may have to fix this a little bit later.
07:42Yeah, it's going to be next to impossible, again, to try to remove that ball joint.
07:45But you'll see, though, what should have really happened was I would have popped off the head, and I would have replaced it then with this head.
07:51But unfortunately, though, with the Christopher Walken, at least that I have, his neck is a separate piece, and it comes off way too frequently.
07:59By the way that they pegged this, it almost sort of signifies that this looks like something that would have been swapped out with some other figure, unless that's the way they designed it initially, that if they could use this body from a previous figure released before, the head would only then be have to be have to something that they'd have to sculpt separately, and then they would have pegged it in place.
08:18Unfortunately, though, again, like removing the head, I was really hoping, though, the neck was going to stay behind.
08:22I kept saying to myself, please stay behind, please stay behind.
08:25And then, unfortunately, popping off the head from the peg popped off the entire neck peg there as well.
08:31If you have this figure, let me know down below in the comments section if you've also had the neck removed as easy as it did in this video.
08:38We'll have to kind of go back to this.
08:39We'll 86 the idea of changing out the head for right now.
08:42We'll come back to doing that when we wrap up this review.
08:44Speaking of wrapping up this review, though, let's go back to the figure's head articulation as the last thing that we're going to look at.
08:51The head's sure going to be on a ball joint, but unfortunately, again, with this, the head falls off way too frequently.
08:56You may even just, if you have this problem, just decide to glue this back in place.
08:59I might even just end up doing that myself as well.
09:02Head's going to be on what would normally be a ball joint.
09:04It would allow the head to move forward and back, up and down.
09:07But again, as you pull it, as you even tilt it, the neck comes off way too often, a lot more than I certainly would have liked.
09:14As for their arms, arms aren't going to fall off at all, at least for Shrek.
09:18They rotate all the way around.
09:20You can also hinge them out at 90 degrees.
09:23Within that, though, the figure does also have a swivel in the bicep that will hinge on the elbow, and the hands rotate all the way around.
09:29The upper torso, while being contained in a very soft jacket, still manages, though, to pull off a ball joint, so it can rotate the torso all the way around, forward, back, back, and forth there as well.
09:42Legs do split, as you can see there.
09:44You can take the legs and move forward.
09:45You can move them back.
09:47There is a swivel, mild swivel at the top of the thigh, double hinge on the knee, and then you've got your ankle articulation up and down.
09:54It goes forward and back as well, and the figure does also have toe articulation too.
09:58Short of having the one issue that I have with the head falling off a lot, and it happens way too much.
10:05And then also, too, like, I really wish this figure could have had some more additional accessories.
10:09Sure, yes, he's a red platinum edition, but again, red platinum usually means that a figure like this already exists, and a lot of times they just re-release it with new accessories.
10:17I could see, though, that if the head was the new accessory for the red platinum edition, that that would be the justified reason why he was labeled the way that he was.
10:24But just labeling him just as a red platinum edition and not throwing any, again, bells, whistles, baubles, or any of the other things that he wished he could offer the citizens of Gotham City.
10:34I kind of really wish that he could have had something else, maybe some little tiny presents, something along those lines.
10:38I don't really know.
10:39Still, though, I mean, if you're looking to pick up the Batman Returns line, I mean, I would like to think you're probably going to be wanting to get Max Shrek too.
10:45But the problem with some of these figures, though, is that they're going for the prices that they are.
10:50Danny DeVito's Penguin, Penguin just in general, and Batman doesn't seem to be too high of a price.
10:55Catwoman, though, I have noticed, has started to kind of skyrocket a little on the prices, and so has Max Shrek and the Penguin Commandos.
11:01I think of all of them, the Penguins probably are the ones that are the most expensive right now.
11:06So if you're able to find these for the prices that they should really be selling for, I'd certainly say if you're a big fan of the film, definitely pick them up.
11:13Max Shrek is a nice-looking figure.
11:14It does have a few little issues, especially more so up here.
11:18The rest of the figure, though, does look rather complete.
11:20Again, I'm sure they probably could re-release this figure again with a different colored jacket, different colored suit, maybe a slightly even different head sculpt, and you're good to go.
11:28Even if this ends up being, though, a one-and-we're-done case with Max Shrek, it's a nice-looking figure, just with a few little problems that go with them.
11:35It seems that changing out of Max Shrek's head has gone from bad to worse.
11:39In fact, the more times that that neck has fallen out, the easier it is then the next time for it to fall out again.
11:45Just getting so frustrated with the matter, I decided to finally glue it.
11:49I gave it a couple of hours, just assuming that that would be enough to hold the neck while I was trying to pop the head off the ball peg.
11:55Sure enough, though, the next time I did it again to try to change out the head, the neck just came completely out of the body.
12:01So I've just decided to leave it the way that it is.
12:04Sure, it's nice that they included a head sculpt like that, where he looks the way that he is at the end of the film when Bruce Wayne discovers him underneath the rubble.
12:11But honestly, though, would many people really decide to display Max Shrek on the shelf?
12:15Let's just say they only have one of them.
12:17Would you ever display Max Shrek with that face?
12:19Unless you had two.
12:21I'm planning maybe to get eventually a second one down the road, but I think for right now, I just want a regular Max Shrek.
12:26It's unfortunate, though, that the head is the only accessory that the figure does actually have.
12:31It's weird, though, that he has a gripping hand, but yet he has no other accessory.
12:35You would think, at the very least, that they would have included some additional swapped-out hands, because that generally goes with the territory, especially for a red platinum edition figure.
12:43To call this a red platinum and realize that the figure only has a trading card, a display stand, and then a swapped-out head, I really feel like Max should have had a lot more for that.
12:53A couple of presents, though, that he could have thrown around.
12:55Maybe a secretary that he could have thrown out the window.
12:58Maybe not a secretary that he could throw out the window.
13:01But at the very least, though, he should have had a lot more than what he does actually have.
13:05The figure looks good.
13:06Construction-wise, though, again, I don't know why mine was having such a tough time changing out the head.
13:11If you guys have, though, picked up this figure for yourself, let me know down below in the comments section if you've had a similar issue with Max Shrek's neck.
13:18In the meantime, though, if you guys did enjoy this video, you can do it a solid throw to like.
13:22You guys want to stick around for more?
13:23So, I hope so.
13:25We're still continuing, by the way, our journey into Gotham City and Batman Returns.
13:29Even though we can check now off Batman, Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and Penguin, and now Max Shrek.
13:35We still have, though, the review of the Penguin Commandos.
13:38The Penguin Commandos.
13:39They're going to be coming up, in fact, right after this video.
13:42So, tomorrow.
13:43Tomorrow, I hope you guys are going to be coming back for the review of the Penguin Commandos.
13:46In the meantime, again, I hope you guys have enjoyed the content you guys have seen on this channel with much more to come.
13:51As always, thanks for watching.
13:53See you guys next time.
