00:00Tis the season to be celebrating in Gotham City, and for presents, Todd's got the bat, the cat, and the penguin in plastic.
00:06Here's your look at the brand new McFarlane toys, DC Multiverse, Batman Returns, Deluxe Theatrical Edition, Batman.
00:10Batman
00:40For the love of God, man, please don't eat plastic.
00:43But something, though, that you may not also have known is that we're also going to be looking at the entire line of McFarlane toys, Batman Returns fingers, sprinkled in there, sort of like the guy that seasons the salt on your steak.
00:53We're going to be looking at those entire line, all throughout this week.
00:57I'd like to also thank Popeye the Toy Man on the Facebook selling group.
01:00That brother hooked this brother up.
01:02And again, we're going to be looking at all those figures.
01:03We're also going to be bringing in, speaking of figures, a couple of other Michael Keaton figures sprinkled in there, like the seasoning salts.
01:09It's from what we've looked at in previous waves.
01:11First things first, though, let's grab the tape measure and see how tall Batman's going to stand.
01:14As far as I know, you can't program the tape measure in in the same way that he had that stupid Batarang in Batman Returns.
01:19How was it, though, that Batman was able to type that all in and just throw the Batarang?
01:23The Batarang went from person to person to person until eventually it was caught by the dog.
01:27No dog around, as far as I know.
01:29The tape measure is just going to tell us that Batman from Batman Returns is going to stand at seven and a half inches in height.
01:33That does seem high.
01:34Well, it's also them including the points in the tops of his cowl.
01:37That's going to translate, though, to a figure that's 19 centimeters tall.
01:41I do.
01:41I do have a couple of Keaton Cape Crusaders.
01:43First, the one from the Flash film.
01:45The Flash film.
01:47I think a lot of shoehorning nostalgia went all into that film when a Flash film like that could have been a lot better.
01:52Yeah, Michael Keaton donning a cape and a cowl again after all these years was fun to see on screen.
01:57But there's no way, though, an aged Bruce Wayne would be able to hold his own against all those criminals, have then the tech that he had, and then be able to fight a Kryptonian.
02:05I'd say preposterous.
02:07Maybe not as preposterous, though, as Michael Keaton playing the role first in the 1989 film.
02:11And, yeah, we got ourselves a figure of that.
02:14Now, his cape is a little janky just because, again, he has to accommodate these poles that go on the sides.
02:19He doesn't also have probably one of the better-looking Michael Keaton heads.
02:22I think the one now that we get here from Batman Returns is the far superior Keaton head.
02:26And it's funny, though, that I'm also talking about heads because the ones the Batman booked in on both sides of this one do things that this one can't do.
02:34These actually both have head articulation, while the one now that we get from Batman Returns doesn't have that at all from the Batcave.
02:39Batman finds the following accessories.
02:41First, he gets himself a display stand.
02:43Yeah, I know.
02:43We've seen this stand before.
02:45Now it has the DC logo, a brand-new classic logo down below, and in walking distance, tiny little footsteps lead then to a peg that can plug into either one of Batman's boots.
02:53Figure does also come include with a trading card.
02:55Now, the trading card is of that of the classic poster.
02:58We've got the Bat, the Cat, and the Penguin.
03:00I think all of them were cast perfectly.
03:02Sean Young, at one point, campaigned to try to get the role of Catwoman.
03:05She went a little crazy, if you ask me.
03:07I think Michelle Pfeiffer was a fitting role for Catwoman.
03:09I think she did a fine, fine job with Selina.
03:11And, of course, I mean, Danny DeVito.
03:13Who else would we have really picked?
03:15If you want to have specifically that kind of Penguin, who would have been a better casting than Danny DeVito himself?
03:20On the side, though, it says Deluxe The Actical Edition.
03:23I don't really know what that necessarily means.
03:24I mean, Deluxe Theatrical Edition, this could have easily just been, could have just left that all off.
03:29I guess because it's part of the movie line that they have to put Theatrical Edition.
03:33That's my only guess.
03:34On the back, though, with the card, it doesn't actually give any read-up, though, to Bruce Wayne.
03:37It gives more just a generic read-up of the movie itself.
03:40Which is, as a matter of fact, I did read at the beginning of this review.
03:43So, you know, it's, it's short enough that I'm sure easily you could have read it for yourself.
03:47But I've already done it for you.
03:49Let's move that card off to the side.
03:52Figure does also come in clear with a couple of swappable hands.
03:55Now, on the ends of his arms right now, the figure does already have gripping hands for the following accessories.
04:01He does have, though, for your interest, he does have a couple of closed fists.
04:04Now, these fists, though, all are also, I think, the ones that we also got from the 1989 Batman.
04:09What's also interesting, too, is that this Batman did also, the 1989, came in clear with a relaxed hand.
04:14If you did want to use this hand, you can swap it out with this Batman over here.
04:19So, I'll show you guys that in a second.
04:20But again, a couple of gripping hands, sorry, a couple of closed-fisted hands,
04:24because he already got the gripping hands on the ends of his forearms.
04:26The figure does also come in clear with a batarang.
04:28Now, I've got to say, right away, if you spin the batarang around,
04:31you'll be disappointed to find that it's not the programmable batarang.
04:35I don't know if maybe, perhaps, that we may get ourselves another release of Batman Returns Batman
04:38at a later date, walking distance date.
04:41But, though, if you look at this one, and then you look at the 1989 one,
04:44short of maybe just the fact that this has a little more of a silver tint to it,
04:48it is, in fact, the exact same.
04:50A little disappointed by that.
04:52I really wish, though, as stupid as it may have even been,
04:54I think including the batarang from the Batman Returns would have made a little bit more sense.
04:58The figure does also come in clear with his grapple line.
05:01Now, again, here's the grapple line from Batman Returns.
05:03Here's the grapple line from the 1989 movie.
05:06Color difference is about the only thing that are different.
05:08I mean, the mold seems to be the same.
05:11I'm not really, again, sure why they chose to go with this coloring.
05:13It's not like Batman really has a different color of gadget in the film.
05:17They all kind of do things more in black.
05:19Why they chose to go with more, like, the silver colors beyond me?
05:22Other than that, though, I mean, again, like, you can take the accessories.
05:25It can fit into Batman's hands.
05:27Now, with this hand, he actually already has a trigger finger.
05:30So we'll go ahead.
05:31The grapple gun is extremely thick.
05:34I mean, look at the thickness of that handle.
05:35Do we have to make it as thick as it is?
05:37But it does fit into his hand.
05:38It does the job that it needs to do.
05:41Obviously, it's not going to fall out of his hand.
05:43It could easily survive the blizzard test.
05:44It's not going to go anywhere.
05:46I did say this, though, earlier.
05:48If you did want to use the 1989 Batman's hand, just to show you guys, though, you can just
05:52pop the peg off and swap it out with a relaxed hand.
05:56I think the color match is okay.
05:57It looks like it's a little bit of a darker color than the rest of his costume.
06:00But if you want to get away with it, you can get away with it.
06:02I'm not going to say anything to anybody.
06:05Seriously, I'm good at keeping secrets.
06:06Let's plug that back into his forum and get a closer look at Batman.
06:10Now, I got to say, though, probably one of the best Batmans we've gotten of Michael Keaton.
06:14Now, again, there's the 1989 movie.
06:17You can decide for yourself whether which one is the better-looking likeness to Michael Keaton.
06:20I still think that this is the better-looking one.
06:22It's not perfect.
06:23I will say, though, it isn't a perfect likeness.
06:27But I think it does things better than the 1989.
06:29It's certainly a far cry.
06:31If you bring in the Flash movie, Batman, I mean, I don't think at all that looks like Michael Keaton.
06:35I think maybe even in the review, I may have said that from certain angles, it does.
06:39Straight on, though, I don't think it does.
06:41I do like that this one does have the wider head.
06:43Now, the thing about it, though, is having a wider head like this, one thing that Batman
06:47has to unfortunately sacrifice, he doesn't have head articulation.
06:50He has posability.
06:51Don't get me wrong.
06:52But the figure does have the posability at the base of the neck.
06:54So it does sort of have the same limitations that Michael Keaton would have had in the film,
06:58where you can only really rotate the head and only move it up and down just a little bit.
07:02The only one thing I will say that doesn't quite look like Michael Keaton to me is maybe
07:06the length, the width of his mouth.
07:07If you made this mouth not as wide, it does seem like he's got a very wide lip.
07:13If to be the case, though, that the look wasn't as wide as it is, I think it would look a lot
07:17more like Michael Keaton.
07:18I think it looks certainly a lot like him from the sides.
07:21I think it's certainly the better of the three that we've gotten.
07:24For the rest of the body, though, Michael Keaton now is sporting the Batman Returns body.
07:27So a lot more angular shapes, like especially when you look at his abdomen area, for example,
07:33he has more boxier abs versus the rounder, smoother abs that he had from 1989 film.
07:38Also, the symbol is something that's changed, too.
07:40He doesn't have the little side pieces from the tail of the bat.
07:44He now just has a bat that goes straight down.
07:46It's a much wider symbol, too.
07:48This cape also does now have a wire built into it.
07:50This cape, because it had to have the post, this one came with like these little post pieces
07:55that had to slide into the sides.
07:58I think there was, yeah, there was a little loop on the top.
08:00You just basically slid these in, and then Batman would have the wide stance or the wide wings.
08:05This Batman doesn't have that, but he does have, though, at his disposal, wires sewn into the seams.
08:11So again, you can easily just bring those wings out if you want.
08:14I wonder, though, if we're going to be getting, now that he's now tackling, Todd McCarlin, that is,
08:18is tackling Batman Returns, if we are going to be getting that mechanical wing that Batman has
08:23when he gets to the rooftop, I would love to get a, I'd love to get a release of that.
08:26And maybe that would be a good time then to incorporate the programmable Batarang,
08:30seeing as this figure doesn't have that.
08:32But I'll know, though, I think it's a good-looking likeness, though, to Bruce Wayne,
08:35certainly to Michael Keaton.
08:36I like, though, the way they've used the material, like, oh, kind of more of a shinier satin material
08:41that they've used for the cape.
08:43And then incorporating, and go, of course, the wings.
08:45You can either have the wings out, or Batman sometimes, too, does curl the wings,
08:49curl the tail, curl the tail, curl the cape.
08:52Back like this, so it sort of has, like, a natural curve this way.
08:56It's a really nice-looking cape.
08:57I think they've done a nice job on that.
08:59For the rest of his body, again, we've already kind of looked at this part.
09:02Let's look at this part down below.
09:03We're going to look at Batman's crotch.
09:04Yes, we are.
09:05If you look at Batman's crotch, must we?
09:07You can see, though, that the trunks are the same.
09:09It does look like, though, his utility belt is a little bit smaller than Returns release versus the 89.
09:14The legs seem, from what I'm guessing, to be the same.
09:16The leg guards are also the same.
09:18The little cap piece that goes over the top of his Air Jordans or Reeboks shoes.
09:25Nike shoes, talking about Reeboks.
09:27But, yeah, like, if you're looking at them, they seem to be the same shoes and even has the same pickles on the bottoms of his feet.
09:32For Batman's articulation, unfortunately, though, again, like, he loses a lot here.
09:36But I think he gains so much more by just the way that his head is shaped.
09:40He doesn't have that weirdness, though, that the 1989 had, where, like, the head is fine for its width.
09:46But then it feels like a little bit more tapered off down below for the neck.
09:49And, again, that was only solely just so the figure could have head articulation.
09:52I think by losing that, I think you'd get a better-looking figure aesthetically.
09:56I just think it looks a lot nicer.
09:58But for Batman's head articulation, this, again, where he limits some of that.
10:02Head's going to be only on a ball joint.
10:03But the ball joint seems like it's very limited.
10:05Sure, yeah, you can rotate the head all the way around.
10:08But moving the head up and down doesn't really seem to apply.
10:11The figure does have a top of a torso ball joint.
10:13And he does also have a ball joint there at the base of his abdomen there as well.
10:17The arms do rotate all the way around.
10:18No issues there.
10:19In case you're also curious, too, looking at the gauntlets.
10:22Let's just get Batman's cape out of the way.
10:23If you look at the gauntlets, they are, in fact, not the same.
10:27Batman has these little slits here for the 1989.
10:29He doesn't have that, though, for the Batman Returns.
10:32His arms do have a swivel right here.
10:34They're on the top of the bicep.
10:35Double hinge on the elbow.
10:37And the hands rotate all the way around.
10:39Batman's legs split.
10:40Again, you've got a nice ratchet joint working there.
10:43Legs go forward.
10:44Legs go back.
10:45There's a swivel at the top of the thigh.
10:47Double hinge on the knee.
10:48Although it's a little tight on my figure, that's not a bad thing at all.
10:51No articulation here for the top of the boots.
10:53But the figure does have, though, quite a generous, a lot more, though, than I was expecting,
10:57where you can move the leg up and down, the foot up and down.
11:00An ankle pivot really works well there.
11:02And the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
11:05Best Michael Keaton Batman that we've gotten?
11:06I'd say so.
11:07I mean, it's not perfect.
11:08There are still things.
11:09Like, I feel like the width of his lips maybe throw off that looking better like Michael Keaton.
11:14I think, like the rest of the figure, though, it looks pretty good.
11:17I mean, obviously, I think when we got the 1989 Batman, a lot of people had the speculation.
11:22I had the same speculation.
11:23Why am I not getting this guy to stand?
11:24Why am I not getting this guy to stand?
11:26It's almost like he needs himself with a display stand.
11:28But when we did get the 1989 release, I think a lot of us did speculate that we were eventually
11:31going to be getting a Batman Returns Batman.
11:34And now, sure enough, we do.
11:35It does take, though, I think some of the improvements.
11:38Like, I feel like the head sculpt on this one wasn't as good as it probably could have been.
11:41I think we do definitely have a much better looking Michael Keaton now, Batman, with the
11:45Returns release.
11:46But again, with that, though, it does mean that, unfortunately, he does lose the head articulation.
11:50Now, that may be a good thing.
11:51That may be a bad thing.
11:52I think it's a good thing, honestly.
11:54Sure, though, it's nice to be able to move the head around.
11:56I mean, Michael Keaton had limitations anyways when he was donning the suit in the first
12:00place in the films.
12:01I'm not disappointed, though, the figure doesn't have head articulation because it does mean
12:04now that, again, like he has much boxier head to neck transition, which I think is
12:10the more important thing.
12:10I think aesthetically, he has to sacrifice the head articulation to gain what he has instead.
12:15I think what he has instead is a much better looking Batman than the ones, the previous
12:19releases we've gotten from before.
12:21It's rather perfect, actually, that we're looking at a Batman Returns line during December
12:25because Batman is a Christmas movie, whether you want to argue that point or not.
12:29Batman Returns also happens to be the guy behind the camera's favorite Batman movie of all
12:33time.
12:33There's nothing for me better than Batman Returns.
12:35But first of all, Michael Keaton came back, cast perfectly.
12:38Again, you had yourself, Michelle Pfeiffer, of course, as Catwoman.
12:40Danny DeVito.
12:41Danny DeVito as Penguin.
12:42And it just, it feels like the most of a comic movie while still being live action.
12:48Now, of course, Todd seemed all in when it comes to producing Batman Returns figures.
12:51Now, of course, are we all already getting a Batman?
12:54We're getting a Catwoman.
12:55We're getting two versions of Penguin, one with his rubber ducky car and then one standalone.
13:00We're getting also the Penguin Commandos and we're also getting Max Schreck, some of which
13:04that I've just rhymed off will be all looked at during this week.
13:07So I hope you guys are going to be coming back for that.
13:09I hope, though, that eventually we're going to be releasing, or they're also going to
13:12be releasing Penguin's Goon Pack, just like the Carnival Gang, the Circus Gang, whatever
13:18they were called.
13:18I hope, though, at some point that we're going to be getting maybe a box set of maybe three
13:22or four of them, even the one that Batman straps the bomb to and knocks them off.
13:26Michael Keaton has no qualms when it comes to killing.
13:29I think, though, I mean, McFarland Toys has killed it when it comes to this license of Batman
13:32Returns so far from what I've seen.
13:35And maybe I've seen it more than what you guys have seen, unless you've watched other reviews
13:38and maybe you've even checked online.
13:40I mean, I think the figures for Batman Returns Wave is probably some of the best they've done
13:43for a Batman movie.
13:45And I can't wait to have those reviews up for you guys.
13:47In the meantime, though, if you guys, again, are interested to get this one for yourself,
13:51it's around.
13:52It's around if you go looking for it.
13:54If you want to find the easiest way to go looking for it, it's probably you can check
13:57on Facebook selling groups.
13:58I know this line, this wave has sold out real fast.
14:01Like the Penguin Commando is going for stupid money.
14:03Luckily, though, I didn't have to pay too much of a stupid money for any of these figures.
14:07So again, we're going to be looking at them all throughout this week.
14:09Again, a big thank you to Papa the Toyman that did hook this guy up.
14:13What do you guys think of the Batman Returns Batman?
14:15Let me know down below in the comments section.
14:17Was this the Batman wave that you were probably the most excited for?
14:20I know it comes really after Batman and Robin.
14:22It comes after Batman Forever.
14:25And it even comes after, well, I guess we don't really have 1989's Batman.
14:28The likelihood that we're getting ourselves a Jack Nicholson Joker.
14:31I don't know.
14:32Todd works his magic in other ways.
14:34Let's hope we eventually are going to get ourselves a 1989 Batman wave, complete with
14:39Bob the Goon.
14:40If you guys, in the meantime, did enjoy this video, you can do this all and throw it a like.
14:43If you guys want to stick around for more, so I hope so.
14:45I hope so.
14:46Again, we're going to be looking at the entire Batman Returns wave all throughout this week.
14:50So I hope you guys can be coming back for that.
14:52As always, thanks for watching.
14:54See you guys next time.
14:55See you guys next time.
15:04See you guys next time.
