00:00He may have transparent skin. Luckily, though, for us, the only thing we can see through right now is the clamshell case.
00:06Here's a look at McFarlane Toys, DC Direct McFarlane Gold Label Collection, Mr. Bones.
00:30They call him Mr. Bones. A new villain debuts and pays a visit to the Infinity Inks pad in Malibu.
00:35When a member of the team is kidnapped by the new villain, they'll have to face Mr. Bones and his cyanide touch.
00:40I'm not so sure you should be raising your hand, Mr. Bones. I don't feel confident that you're dry, and I certainly don't feel secure.
00:46Before we get a closer look at sweaty Mr. Bones, let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:50What's all this sweat talk, by the way? It's just the fact that he does actually have cyanide-like sweat.
00:55So when this guy gets sweaty, everybody needs to stay clear.
00:58Let's take the tape measure. We're going to go right to the very top of the figure's head.
01:01And while I'm doing this, I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did make this review possible.
01:05What's rather interesting is also that Mr. Bones is one of the creations of Todd McFarlane.
01:10Interesting. The figure, though, is going to be standing at 7 inches in height, working out to be a figure that's 18 centimeters tall.
01:17Yeah, the character of Mr. Bones was created by Roy Thomas, Dan Thomas, and Todd McFarlane back in 1985.
01:22And he first debuted in Infinity Ink, number 16.
01:25Now, for the build of his body, Mr. Bones isn't a brand new sculpt.
01:29In fact, he's actually using the same build that we've seen before.
01:32As an example, I'm going to be bringing right now is Wildcats.
01:35Just so it happens I happen to have a Wildcat nearby.
01:38This body, again, has been used by other Batmans.
01:40Again, I'm just using this example right now of Wildcats.
01:43Same torso, same arms, same lower torso.
01:46The only thing that's different, though, is the fact that, obviously, he's now sporting brand new gloves,
01:49which are actually separate from the rest of his forearms.
01:51And he's got a brand new pair of boots.
01:54What he also gets is a trading card, a display stand, two pairs of interchangeable hands.
01:58And this, the figure does come included with a back card that initially I was thinking was going to be an issue of Infinity Ink, but it wasn't.
02:05What it is, though, is instead, it's just a thick layer of cardboard.
02:09In fact, actually, if you look at it, it looks like it's several layers, maybe even four, that are all adhered together.
02:14The back of the board is just basically an uncolorized version of that.
02:18And then on the front, it's just, again, that all done in color.
02:21I like the look of this.
02:23I'm just, to be honest with you, I'm not really sure what I'm going to be doing with it.
02:25It's just, again, a big, thick, hard piece of cardboard.
02:28I suppose, if anything, you probably could display it along the bottom behind the figure.
02:30But there isn't any display stand, so you'll have to kind of prop it up against the wall.
02:35Again, I like it.
02:36I just really don't know what I'm going to be doing with it.
02:38I know what, though, I'm going to be doing with the trading card.
02:40I'm going to be putting in the sheets in a second.
02:42It does have, again, the exact same image.
02:44It says,
02:44What I think is also clever is that they made Mr. Bones completely out of bones.
02:51Well, again, his body's made out of bones as well.
02:54On the back, though, of the card, his debut is Infinity Inc. number 16.
02:58And that read-up, you could read if you want.
03:00I've already beaten you to it.
03:01It's what I read at the beginning of this video.
03:03So, at least I could do.
03:04This is a nice-looking card.
03:05I'm going to be putting that in my sheet protector soon.
03:08Put it off to the side for right now.
03:09The figure does also come in clear with the display stand.
03:11Same black stand, different now DC logo, different DC logo, all done here in white.
03:17It does have, again, a neighboring peg that can plug into either one of Mr. Bones' boots.
03:22I keep wanting to say Mr. Burns.
03:23But, yeah, that's going to plug into either one of his boots.
03:26I think, though, Mr. Burns does also have transparent skin.
03:29It's one of the calling cards, though, of Mr. Bones.
03:31Mr. Bones also does have some swappable hands.
03:33Now, he does have close fists on the ends of his forearms right now.
03:37Couldn't so easily be swapped out with a pair of relaxed hands.
03:40If you really like the look of relaxed hands, these, again, all have been molded in black plastic.
03:45Doesn't seem, though, like there's any additional paint that's been given to them.
03:48And then he also comes included with kind of a trigger-firing finger hand.
03:52I'm not really sure why.
03:53And a gestured hand, which would, though, be ideal.
03:56I just want to kind of bring your attention back to the card.
03:58I'm not going to bring back the large standee for that.
04:01But if you look at, actually, the card, you'll notice, though, that Mr. Bones' hand is all colored here in white.
04:06Because he's supposed to have, basically, like a Sinai touch and sweat.
04:10I would have liked, again, taking sort of that same idea.
04:13Not that I want necessarily constructs.
04:15Get your finger out of the way.
04:17Not that I wanted these constructs necessarily around his hand.
04:20But I think, though, that they probably could have given him a different hand.
04:23Now, being that the way they designed this, I know the glove is sort of the same color.
04:28I'm going to see if I can find myself a figure that has a white hand.
04:31One, at least, that's the right size.
04:33It's going to look absolutely stupid if I could choose a hand that's way too small.
04:35But if I find a hand that's of the same size, I'm going to see if I can actually replicate that look and swap it out with the ones that he has.
04:42Swapping out the hands, by the way, does make me want to draw your attention to this as well.
04:45Is that he does have gloves, but the gloves are actually removable.
04:49They may have found this as a more cost-saving measure rather than sculpting a brand new arm piece.
04:54So what they did instead was they removed the gloves.
04:57So these are just, you know, again, separate pieces that slide up the forms.
04:59If you are a customizer, I suppose you probably could use these for something else.
05:02If you don't like the look of the gloves, you can take those off as well.
05:06I think the gloves certainly add to the look, especially the fact that they're outlined here and lined in yellow.
05:10And there's some additional yellow down below.
05:12So they match up nicely.
05:13Again, swapping out the hand.
05:15That's probably the hand I'm going to have the figure displayed with.
05:17Yeah, that's a really cool looking.
05:19Had this actually, this was with the figure when I've displayed them at the beginning of this review.
05:22It's likely going to be the hand.
05:23I'm going to continue the way, continue this look until the very end of this video.
05:27So one of the things that he does, the figure does come included.
05:31Well, that's really about it.
05:32Just, again, some swappable hands, a big placard display, which, again, just seems so odd to me that they wouldn't have included Infinity Ink as maybe the, I mean, as a reference, though, he is coming from issue number 16.
05:44So why would they have not just included Infinity Ink number 16?
05:47Maybe they didn't have the rights for it.
05:48Anyways, though, for the sculpting and the build of the body, of course, he does have a brand new head sculpt.
05:53I really like the look of Mr. Bones' head.
05:55It does have these piercing little pupils on the inside sockets of those eyes.
06:00Now, unfortunately, though, the mouth doesn't open.
06:02I mean, have we ever had, though, a case where the mouth, I guess, larger figures have had open mouths.
06:07This one doesn't have it, though.
06:09So, you know, you're kind of stuck with the look that he has right now.
06:12One thing that's cool, though, is he does also have a fabric cape.
06:14Now, the fabric cape does look like it's actually been attached by his shoulders.
06:19So while it's completely separate from the rest of his torso to do whatever it needs to do,
06:23it is firmly rooted on the inside there, and then he's got the little strap that goes across the front.
06:28The strap, actually, is just one big band of plastic.
06:31So if you don't really like that, you can basically just take that off completely.
06:34But I think it does add to the look.
06:36I'm going to keep it on.
06:37Being that, though, it is a separate piece, you'll find this frequently,
06:41frequently just slides and flops around on the figure's face, around the figure's face.
06:45The one thing, though, I kind of wish that the figure could have had when going back to the idea of the fabric cape
06:49is a pointed, a top piece, like a little pointed, what would you call that, the back of the cape?
06:56The collar piece. Thank you. The collar piece.
06:58Had this been maybe spiked, like they've done in the comic here,
07:01I think that would have maybe added a nice little touch to this.
07:04Unfortunately, though, like the top of the cape, I guess it does have a spike.
07:07It does have, like, little points to it.
07:09I would have liked if it could have been a little bit more extreme than that,
07:12but I guess if you wanted to.
07:13It looks really like, less like points,
07:16and it kind of looks like it's just like a circling collar piece.
07:20Again, you've got the wire running down the sides here of the cape.
07:23The wire actually runs down the middle here as well,
07:25so between all those three,
07:27you've got to get a lot of mileage going when it comes to the way you've molded this.
07:30Unfortunately, though, I know a lot of people don't really like,
07:32some people do, some people don't.
07:34I kind of am of the same side that generally likes only really the sides of the cape to have the wire.
07:38The middle section, I usually like to have loose, a little loosey-goosey,
07:42but one thing it does add, though, is, again, if you want to have ripples in the capes,
07:45you can kind of just, like, frill them up like this and have the figure displayed that way.
07:50Nice-looking overall cape.
07:51We've seen this material before.
07:53Just rhyme off on one hand how many red-caped figures we've had,
07:57and they generally all use this sort of woven material.
08:00It's got a little bit of elasticity to it.
08:02It's generally a good fabric that they use, so no issues really there.
08:04The look of the general look of the figure, again,
08:07we're basically getting treated to the exact same body.
08:09I'm going to bring, again, the example here of a wildcat.
08:11You can kind of see, too, if you look at, like, his abdomen area,
08:15it's got still the calling cards of those little ripples.
08:17See the little wrinkles right there?
08:18He's got two, two right here.
08:20He's got one just above the abdomen.
08:22He's got one just above the abdomen.
08:23I mean, you can also see, too, if you have your eyes completely open,
08:26that the torso is the same, the arms are the same.
08:29Again, they only really had to add the gloves,
08:30so that's nothing different really there.
08:32And, again, the only thing that's really different for the lower half of his body, really,
08:36is just that he does now have boots.
08:38Now, these boots are hard plastic.
08:40I actually was thinking that they'd be a little more softer plastic,
08:42but what they likely have done is they've probably sculpted this as just all one piece.
08:47I don't know, though, if looking at the thigh, is the thigh the same?
08:51The thigh looks maybe that it's the same.
08:52It's got, like, three wrinkle lines here on the side.
08:55Like, what are we?
08:56Are we in CSI?
08:57We're matching up little wrinkle lines here for figures' legs?
09:00It does look like maybe they may have tooled, again, the same leg,
09:04and then just, again, sculpted it with the boot down below.
09:07Yellow overall looks good.
09:08There are a few little areas that maybe you can see, like,
09:10maybe could have used the second coat of paint.
09:12I know yellow is really a hard thing to pull off anyways.
09:15His belt isn't really quite, if, again, if you're going to nickel and dime the details,
09:19the belt isn't really the same as the one that we get here on the front of the card.
09:22I mean, it's kind of more of a solid belt here,
09:24where here they've only given the suggestions with individual squares.
09:27Now, this, by the way, isn't also sculpted in, nor is the crossbones.
09:32I know it's easier than them sculpting something from scratch.
09:36I would have liked if this could have been raised over the surface of the torso,
09:40as opposed to just printing it on there.
09:41But again, like, it's still a good-looking figure.
09:43I mean, the fact that we have even this discussion about Mr. Bones,
09:47I mean, this is a figure that's a little more obscure.
09:49It is also, again, a figure created by, one, co-created, co-created by McFarlane.
09:53Now, for the figure's articulation, again, if you're familiar with this body, exactly the same.
09:57The head's going to be on a ball joint.
09:58Yes, it is.
09:59Head's going to look up and down.
10:01Did you miss that?
10:02I'll do it again.
10:03Up and down, back and forth.
10:07I sound like a really old exercise program for retirement people.
10:10Head rotates all the way around.
10:12The top of the torso is going to be on a ball joint.
10:14You can rock it back and forth as well.
10:16The lower end of the abdomen, follow along with me, everybody, does also the same.
10:20Arms do rotate all the way around.
10:21I did notice, though, the arms from Mr. Bones, a little on the loose side.
10:25Not so bad on this side.
10:27A little looser on this side, though.
10:28They rotate all the way around.
10:30You can bring them out, yes, at a T-pose or 90 degrees.
10:33There's a swivel at the bicep.
10:34Get in there.
10:35Get in there.
10:36Swivel at the bicep.
10:37Double hinge on the elbow.
10:38And the hands rotate all the way around.
10:40Just be cautious, though, swapping out the hands that you don't lose the gloves in the process.
10:44That would probably make you really sad.
10:46Especially if you lost, hey, now, if you lost one and you still had the other,
10:49that would just eat away at your soul.
10:51Sort of like his sweat.
10:54His cyanide sweat so it's seeping into your skin.
10:56It would just eat away at you.
10:58Just like, oh, I need to find that other glove because now he looks mismatched.
11:02Nobody wants a mismatch, Mr. Bones.
11:04Legs split out.
11:05They're in ratcheted joints.
11:07You can bring the legs forward.
11:08You can bring them back if you want.
11:10There's a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
11:12No swivelage.
11:13No swivelage at all for the top of the boot.
11:15The figure has really tight joints.
11:16So it's funny, though, ironically, that he has such loose arms, but he has very, very
11:20tight knees.
11:21And that's not a bad thing, I suppose, at all.
11:23Ankle pivot up and down.
11:25Ankle rocker there as well.
11:26And the figure does also have toe articulation as well.
11:29It's one of those good case, bad case scenarios.
11:31I mean, the bad case is obviously he's just using a lot of the same body as other previous
11:35figures from before.
11:35But you kind of have to also look at the positives, too.
11:38The fact that we, again, are even having this discussion on a character of Mr.
11:41Bones getting a plastic release of him.
11:42Now, does it mean then, yeah, because he had to use a body from another figure to get
11:46the job done?
11:47I think he gets the job done for being a pretty cool, obscure character.
11:51I mean, he has moved on to other things.
11:52He wasn't just sort of relegated necessarily to being a bad guy back in the 80s.
11:57I mean, since then, I think Mr. Bones has reformed.
11:59He's also become like a good guy.
12:01He's also done things as well.
12:02I think he's become, maybe he's part of like the Department of Extranormal Operations,
12:07which is like a government agency.
12:09This all came later.
12:09This all came later.
12:10In the 80s, though, again, he was not really a big baddie, but he was enough of a baddie
12:14that at least we got a plastic figure.
12:15I don't know if maybe some influence was also maybe by Todd McFarlane that, again, he was
12:19kind of co-creating this character as well, that, you know what, I would like to at some
12:23point do a body of Mr. Bones, and I'm glad that he did.
12:26Again, while it's using, again, the same body as like a Wildcat as the example here, different
12:30color.
12:31You know, again, he's got some nice bright uses of the yellow there for the top of his glove.
12:34The belt isn't really matching the coloring, though, or the shape that he's designed
12:38here on the front of the card.
12:39But overall, like, he's a really fun-looking figure.
12:41He's one of those figures that, even if you don't necessarily know the backstory of Mr.
12:45Bones, you can just look at a figure like this on your shelf and think, I know absolutely
12:49zero about him, and yet he just is cool to look at.
12:53And that's not a bad thing at all.
12:54If a figure is just someone that's cool to look at, it does the thing it needs to do in
12:58the first place.
12:59It captures your eye, even if he doesn't really have much eyes anyways.
13:02The more I fuss with the figure of Mr. Bones, the more I really like him.
13:05And, you know, it doesn't necessarily mean that a figure like this has to be invented
13:09from the ground up and he has to use a brand new body.
13:11I mean, you know, we've seen in the past, we've gotten a lot of good figures by boring
13:16over molds that we've already gotten from before from McFarlane Toys.
13:19So now getting one that's probably been used at least, well, you probably could count on
13:23two hands how many times this mold has been used between Batman's, a Wildcat.
13:26I think Superman's even used this body at one point, too.
13:29The one thing that is different, though, is the fact that this does have now a fabricate.
13:32He benefits by being good in getting a later release rather than an earlier one.
13:37An earlier Mr. Bones probably would have suffered from having a plastic molded cape when fabric
13:41capes, we've got to all admit, I mean, fabric capes do the job better.
13:45I mean, they make the figure look more premium.
13:46Plus, you can also have a lot more fun wire bending the cape and getting it the mold that
13:51you want.
13:51For the rest of the figure's accessories, I mean, you're really only relegated to just
13:55swappable hands.
13:56The swappable hands, I still think they could have thrown in the nice touch of making one of
14:00the hands white.
14:01But, so again, like, maybe they could have also included maybe one less hand and had
14:06a different glove piece.
14:07Because again, like, with the glove being removable like this, and with his glove being all white
14:11on the issue front of Infinity Ink, like, makes me think, either we'll get another version
14:16of Mr. Bones, probably a very unlikely, probably a very unlikely case.
14:19But yeah, if they had included a secondary glove piece, you could have pulled the glove off,
14:24added then the white glove, and added a white hand.
14:26Still, though, for what he is, and for the design that he is, I don't know, I seem to
14:30be a sucker when it comes to skull characters.
14:32I'm sure somebody could probably have a lot of fun also making this into a Ghost Rider character.
14:36I know we're not really talking about Marvel right now, we're sticking to this DC.
14:40Big thank you again to the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did provide this sample of the brand
14:44new Infinity Ink appearing villain.
14:46Then he reformed, became a hero a little bit later.
14:48We were looking at Mr. Bones.
14:50What do you guys think of him?
14:50Let me know down below in the comments section.
14:52If you guys did also enjoy this video, you can do a solid throw to like.
14:55You guys want to stick around for more so?
14:57I certainly hope so.
14:58We are, by the way.
14:59This isn't the end, not by a stretch.
15:01This isn't the end of DC Multiverse figure reviews.
15:04We've got a lot more in the pipeline all coming your way, so I hope you guys are going
15:06to be coming back to this channel for the rest of this week.
15:08As always, thanks for watching.
15:10See you guys next time.
