00:00 Sure, yeah, the hospitality may have been friendly, but I wish the same could be said
00:03 for the host.
00:04 Here's your look at the brand new Super 7 Universal Monsters Ultimates, the Metaluna
00:08 Mutant.
00:25 The Zagons have destroyed Metaluna, and only one of their mutant worker drones have managed
00:29 to escape fiery death.
00:31 This 7-inch, highly articulated Metaluna Mutant Ultimates figure is inspired by his appearance
00:35 in the movie The Island Earth, and includes an interchangeable head and extra pair of
00:39 hands.
00:40 Don't let the opportunity to get the made-to-order Metaluna Mutant Ultimates figure escape your
00:44 grasp.
00:45 Make sure you add this classic monster to your collection of figures.
00:48 While we're grabbing the tape measure to measure off the Metaluna Mutants, I also have reason
00:52 to believe that someone out there in the audience isn't who they say they are.
00:57 Not having a budget to do proper scientific testing, I'll just have to do it the old-fashioned
01:00 way of going around up to each person and asking them, "Are you an alien?"
01:04 And I'm sure they have to say yes if they are.
01:07 While we're doing that also, the Metaluna Mutant is standing 7 inches in height, or
01:11 the figure's going to be about 18 centimeters tall.
01:13 While my cruder scientific testing has resulted in asking 16 people if they're aliens, and
01:19 16 people have come back and said, "No.
01:21 No they're not aliens.
01:22 I'm going to have to find other ways to test instead."
01:25 While I'm also thinking of that, we'll slide over the Metaluna Mutant.
01:29 That's hard to really say.
01:30 Try saying Metaluna Mutant five times fast.
01:33 Apparently it was a lot easier.
01:35 Wait a minute.
01:36 If you're saying it so fast, could you be an alien?
01:39 No, apparently they're shaking their head.
01:41 I'm running out of ideas.
01:42 We're going to slide over, though, the Metaluna Mutant.
01:44 I'm going to bring in a monster of a different background.
01:47 Here's what the figure also looks like with the Super 7 Ultimates Nosferatu.
01:52 Rather slim pickings get stocked along with the Metaluna Mutants.
01:55 First, the figure comes in clear with a pair of alternate pincers.
01:58 The pincers have been molded here in purple plastic.
02:01 I'm sorry to spit all over everybody here.
02:03 On top of that, it looks like they've painted a little bit of a rusted red.
02:07 The pincers themselves are more of a mixture between a very light beige and yellow.
02:13 These can, though, be swapped out in all places, as you would imagine, be swapped out with
02:16 the forearms that he currently has.
02:18 What's rather interesting, though, is picking up the figure.
02:21 The figure has quite salvageable, serviceable pincing hands.
02:24 These actually do open and close.
02:26 It does really beg the question, if you give a much more better looking, much better hands
02:30 with the figure stocked in packaging, why would there ever really be a need to want
02:34 to change it out for these instead?
02:35 I can understand, certainly, if he had a ray gun, something he could hold in his hand,
02:39 but not having anything else other than a battle-damaged head.
02:43 It does, again, draw real interesting questions as to why they would have just not given us
02:46 the closing hands, unless they just wanted to use as much material as they could to justify
02:51 the pricing that they sell these figures for.
02:53 The figures, as a whole, are usually about $50-$56, I think, US, online.
02:58 So he's a little bit more of an expensive figure.
03:00 I think he really could have used a lot more than just pincing hands.
03:03 He does, though, however, come included - I say "he" - it comes included with an alternate
03:07 head sculpt portrait as well.
03:09 The alternate head sculpt, as you can see, seems to be, though, identical to the head
03:13 sculpt that we already have, other than this one has been sculpted with some now battle-damaged
03:17 on the top of the head, oozing out blood.
03:19 Apparently, it also bleeds in red, similar to humans.
03:24 It's making things harder and harder to try to figure out who the alien is in the crowd.
03:28 Changing out the heads, though, is fairly easy to do.
03:29 You're just gonna pop the head off the ball joint.
03:31 And even though it is a really substantially large ball joint, I didn't have any real issues
03:36 taking off the head or popping the new one in place.
03:39 I think just for the fact that this one's a little bit more cleaner of a hair - of a
03:42 head style, not a hair style.
03:44 This one, I think, is probably gonna be the one I'm gonna be displaying the figure with
03:46 instead.
03:47 But if you prefer to have battle damage for your Metal Luna Mutant, you can go that route
03:50 instead.
03:52 Popping the head back off, putting it back in, I feel the superior of the two heads.
03:56 Notable trait about the Metal Luna Mutant is the fact it has a big giant brain on top
04:00 of his head.
04:01 Well, actually, the brain is really part of his head.
04:03 Similar to like those aliens that Captain Pike come across, I think, in - what was the
04:07 first episode?
04:08 - the cage?
04:09 That pilot episode of Star Trek?
04:10 Apparently all the aliens were actually played by actresses.
04:13 All females were playing those roles.
04:15 Maybe that's what they actually look like when the skin is peeled away.
04:19 Head sculpt is really nicely done here.
04:20 It's painted mostly here.
04:21 Again, you've got the molded plastic of the purple, but then they paint it again like
04:25 this really interesting rusted red kind of purple color and very beady gold eyes as well
04:30 as sort of a - I guess this would be the mouth that would open and close that's been painted
04:34 nicely also here in gold.
04:36 I will say, though, one thing, unfortunately, about the figure - we'll talk more about this
04:39 obviously when we get down to the posability that the figure does possess or lack thereof
04:43 - because he does have, or it has, this big giant backpack on its back, it does basically
04:48 mean its articulation is null and void.
04:50 Also, by the way, it's just sculpted in the way that the original creature suit was designed
04:54 in the movie.
04:55 By having this being an angular belt like this, it basically means that there's no posability
05:00 whatsoever.
05:01 I guess we're kind of, in a way, talking about the figure's articulation already, but unfortunately
05:04 that is one thing that is a casualty for the designing of the figure's suit.
05:08 The character suit in the movie does mean, again, even though they really did put in
05:11 what seems to be a ball joint, you can't do anything at all with the ball joint itself.
05:16 The gold does make one other appearance down below here on the side of the belt.
05:19 You can see there's the creature's symbol on the side.
05:22 It's got some really interesting veins that it has sort of stretched across the tops of
05:25 the shoulders and all down the arms as well.
05:28 Because of course this was a suit, they had to find a way to throw off the proportions
05:31 of the actor inside the suit, so they made the arms quite much longer.
05:35 Normally a hand would be right here, but then the actor basically would have had to wear
05:38 an extra sleeve piece on the ends, giving him some extra little bit of reach.
05:43 What's interesting about that though is by normally having a hinge joint right here for
05:46 the hand, of course the hand would be moving up and down, you get now the benefit of a
05:50 much longer, very non-human-like length for a sleeve.
05:54 And again, you've got a hand there on the end instead.
05:56 The only thing that really doesn't look as much alien is sort of the lower half of the
05:59 figure's body.
06:00 Based, again, on the original design of the suit, it looks kind of more like it's wearing
06:04 slacks, but it does have at least some really nice sculpted rooted veins down below there
06:09 as well, down to his feet.
06:10 The feet are a little bit of a different color than the hands.
06:13 The hands are kind of more of a warmer color, and yet the feet are kind of coming across
06:16 more like a very cold green.
06:18 Now for the figure's articulation, we already touched a little bit base about kind of like
06:22 the torso area here, but going back first to his head, the Metal Luna Mutant does have
06:27 rotation in his head.
06:28 Of course it does have a ball joint, but just by the size and mass of the head, there's
06:31 really not much you can do from a, well, rotating it back and forth.
06:35 It doesn't also help either that the shoulders are on either side of it.
06:38 It does move down only by that far, looks up only by that much, and you can rock it
06:42 back and forth, but to get a full head rotation, it just isn't going to cut it.
06:46 Because of this, again, the shoulders, just because of the size of the brain and the backpack
06:50 on the back of its torso.
06:51 Why am I doing it like that?
06:53 Already mentioned though, while it does have some really interesting sculpt right here,
06:56 I thought there may have been a swivel at the top here, but I think it's just the fact
06:59 that this is an overlay over top of the torso piece.
07:02 This is softer plastic, so they likely would have taken like the shoulder part and just
07:06 put it over top of the torso.
07:09 That unfortunately doesn't mean that there's no articulation here at all, and even though
07:12 you can see it, there's a little bit of wiggling in the actual abdomen area, but I feel in
07:17 a way they probably should have just done away with it altogether.
07:20 Sculpted this as all one piece, and maybe then use the cost of what have been producing
07:24 that ball joint.
07:25 Dedicate that instead for some of the accessories that the Metal Luna Mutant does not possess.
07:29 As for the shoulders, even though the shoulders are these very large grapes that he has on
07:33 the tops, you can still easily move the arms forward and back, and also really out as well.
07:39 The bicep area here doesn't really have a swivel, although where the elbow normally
07:44 would be on a human does swivel back and forth, and there's a hinge joint right there, which
07:47 was actually really quite tight on the figure when I first took it out of the packaging.
07:51 And again, what normally would have been a hand right here, instead what it gets is a
07:54 secondary essentially forearm.
07:56 The hands also rotate back and forth.
07:58 These much better, much superior hands actually do have pincers that open and close.
08:02 The other ones that we've already had a look at, these ones, these ones right over here,
08:05 can't do anything.
08:06 But before, I guess we look at the rest of the figure's articulation to change out the
08:09 hands, even if you did want to, just pop those off, replace them, and plug those back into
08:14 place.
08:15 And again, the only difference is like these open and close, these ones don't.
08:18 And if they don't, it really leads me to believe that at one point the figure had planned
08:22 an accessory, something he could have held in his hand.
08:24 But again, not having that, I don't really feel again like these hands are really necessary
08:28 at all.
08:29 Again, there's nothing here for the waist.
08:31 The legs do split out.
08:33 They're on ball joints.
08:34 You can take the legs and move forward, sure, and back, of course.
08:36 There's a swivel at the top of the thigh, single hinge only for the knee, a slight rotation
08:40 in the knee.
08:41 I mean, there's really very little until you kind of start to bend the knee.
08:44 When you bend the knee, there's a lot more to move with.
08:46 When you have it straight like this, there's obviously not as much that you can actually
08:49 do with it.
08:50 The ankles do move up and down this way.
08:51 You can rock them back and forth.
08:53 And the Metal Luna Mutant, even though he is alien and all, does still have pegs, peggles
08:57 on the undersides of the figure's feet.
08:59 I like the look of this one.
09:00 Again, it's a really interesting take on a classic movie monster.
09:04 This one I think was from 1955, if memory serves me correctly.
09:07 Again, we'll bring back in the Nosferatu.
09:09 A bit of a different figure line that we're getting here from Super 7.
09:12 I really did like the Nosferatu.
09:14 I think the Nosferatu did come across a little cartoonier.
09:17 This one definitely has a lot more vibrant colors.
09:19 I really do like the blues.
09:20 I really like the rusted reds that they use.
09:22 And again, while it does have limited articulation points more in the abdomen area, and really
09:27 what I still feel to be unnecessary swappable hands, I do really like the way that Metal
09:31 Luna Mutant turned out here.
09:34 In between takes, I did have a couple people coming up to me to know the update of our
09:37 intergalactic visitor that was sitting among us.
09:39 I still don't know.
09:40 I mean, I've asked, I've thought everybody in the audience, except for one man that had
09:44 to leave early.
09:45 He said he was drinking too much juice and had to hit the restroom.
09:47 It seemed to be a viable enough argument.
09:49 I just wrote it off that he had to use the can.
09:52 Maybe I probably should have asked him again if he was alien.
09:54 I think the rule is if you ask if somebody is an alien and they say no, I think you have
09:58 to follow it up with, "Are you sure?"
10:00 And then they're supposed to apparently say that it's yes, they are an alien.
10:03 So if he does come back, I'll ask him again, "Are you an alien?"
10:06 Hopefully he'll say, hopefully he says no.
10:08 If he says yes, I don't know if I have the proper precautions in place.
10:11 Anyways, though, as we jump to the final looks of the Metal Luna Mutant, I do like the look
10:15 of this one from a color and the way that he was molded.
10:17 He's got some decent articulation, although again, limited in the in the torso.
10:21 There's really nothing that you could do with the torso.
10:23 And again, begs the question, a similar question I would have had for the swapped out hands.
10:27 If there's nothing you can really move to the body, at least the mid body of the Metal
10:31 Luna Mutant, then why even incorporate articulation there in the first place?
10:34 I feel like if anything, it's more of a tease.
10:37 Similar to the tease that we get for the gripping hands that look like it should have served
10:40 for some serviceable reason, like perhaps a ray gun or something else that the figure
10:44 could hold.
10:45 It's one of those ultimate figures that we've gotten really bare basics when it came to
10:48 his release.
10:49 I mean, at least when it came to Nosferatu, we got enough things to come with them, swappable
10:54 hands, a pair of keys and what, three interchangeable head sculpts that the Metal Luna Mutant only
10:59 to come include one extra head sculpt, which happens to be the one I'm using right now,
11:02 and only two pairs or one other pair of two pincing hands.
11:06 I feel like it really needed to have a lot more than what it does.
11:09 For the price of what this guy sells for online, most again, the ultimate figures if I'm checking
11:12 online, go for around $54.99.
11:15 Nothing really different here when it comes to Metal Luna Mutant.
11:17 For $54.99, I just wish that he would have had a lot more than what he actually did.
11:22 What do you guys think of the figure?
11:23 Let me know down below in the comment section.
11:24 Is this a figure you could see yourselves picking up or is this one a simple pass?
11:28 Do let me know down below.
11:29 If you guys did in the meantime, enjoy this video, whether you're alien or not, make sure
11:33 you hit that with a like.
