00:00 It's night he came home to play a board game. Here's a look at the Kickstarter
00:04 Halloween 2 the game.
00:08 In this retro design tabletop game based on the 1981 horror movie Halloween 2
00:18 players try to stop Michael Myers from killing Laurie Strode. For those not
00:23 familiar with these games these popped up over on Kickstarter a year or so ago
00:27 when they first did the Silent Night Deadly Night and then they did the My
00:30 Bloody Valentine board game. Both of which I've already had reviews of done
00:33 on this channel so if you guys want to go back and look at the reviews of the
00:35 Silent Night Deadly Night and the My Bloody Valentine board game they're here.
00:38 You can check them out you can watch them whenever you want. I have backed
00:42 since the Halloween 2 game more just a fan of Michael Myers. Unfortunately
00:46 though with the board games one thing I've already noticed is a very copy and
00:49 paste format. If you've already played for example the Silent Night Deadly
00:52 Night you already then know how to play My Bloody Valentine and I'm sure the
00:55 same could be said here for Halloween 2 having already just sort of looked
00:59 through the rules and looked at some of the pieces. I'll bring those out more in
01:02 a second we'll kind of run through the game and how to play the game but I do
01:05 also want to tell you guys that there is also a Kickstarter I think as of right
01:08 now it's still active over on Kickstarter for the Scream Ghostface
01:12 board game. I'll tell you right now I haven't backed it. Part of me did want to
01:15 back it just because again I think by now I'm just kind of collecting these
01:18 board games as being collectors pieces with really never no real
01:22 interest in mind to actually sit down and play them. As you'll see in a second
01:25 I feel like they're a little underwhelming. The board games first of
01:29 all aren't big enough. The boards need to be a lot bigger than what they are and
01:31 again if you have already played Silent Night Deadly Night you've already then
01:35 played My Bloody Valentine and you will already have played Halloween 2. You'll
01:38 see what I mean in a second. Before we actually look at the game itself and I
01:41 show you the individual token pieces I want to show you at least the box. One
01:45 thing could certainly be said from a collection standpoint the boxes look
01:48 gorgeous and also as well the boards inside and all the pieces look great.
01:51 It's again like the game. The one thing it needs to be and the game is
01:54 underwhelming. You got Halloween 2 there on the top. Michael Myers sporting
01:58 bloodied eyes carrying around a scalpel and then you've got crawling Laurie Strode
02:01 towards the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. On the bottom of course you got
02:05 The Nightmare Isn't Over which also carries over to the side where Michael
02:08 Myers also is wielding a knife in hand. It's recommended for ages 17 and up. It's
02:12 best played with one to four players. I mean I don't know if you'd really
02:15 want to play one player. Obviously that'd be a little bit harder because you'd be
02:17 rolling both dice. You play one to four players and then on the back you've got
02:21 again some really exquisite looking artwork. Michael Myers with a syringe in
02:25 one hand. Michael Myers carrying around a knife while one woman is offering up
02:29 mustard to her husband who's sleeping in the other room. Michael Myers is creeping
02:32 in the back of the kitchen and then of course you got the bloody Michael Myers
02:35 eyes. Down below you got him swinging the hammer. Hey it looks like he hit. Again
02:39 it's a really nice looking box. The problem with the game though is like
02:42 while it looks gorgeous all of these games have looked really good. The games
02:46 themselves have been really underwhelming. That being said I'm gonna
02:50 open up here the Halloween 2 the game. I'll show you guys again the individual
02:53 pieces and I'll show you a little bit of how the game plays out. So just before we
02:57 actually play a little bit of the game I wanted to show you guys everything that
03:00 the game comes included with. Now this also includes all the additional
03:03 unlocked perks that went with the Kickstarter. So some of the additional
03:06 accessories or some of the little perks were things I added on to the game to
03:10 get them also as well. Those additional perks for example were an expansion pack
03:14 that came also included with eight more playing pieces, ten more game cards, new
03:18 actions and group actions. I just want to pull out the pieces. I didn't want to
03:22 really include these because these weren't really ones that were with just
03:24 the straight game. You get like Dr. Mixter and actually you know what
03:27 let's open these all up. I want to show you guys the additional game pieces they
03:31 come included with. The funny thing about it though is that characters like Laurie
03:34 Strode don't make the basic lineup of characters. One thing I also will notice
03:39 too is that they decided instead of actually having the faces I guess for
03:43 maybe more the licensing of the characters likeness or the actor they
03:46 had to get the licensing likeness rights from those actors. Instead you basically
03:50 just get the lower half of the face. So you get Laurie Strode. Now these again
03:53 are part of all the expansion pack. You get Mr. Garrett, you get Marian Chambers, Dr.
03:58 Mixter, you also get as well Bud, Nurse Jill, Alice and Janet. All of these by the
04:07 way are double-sided. They'll clip then into the orange standees and again you
04:10 can use them with the board. That was all part of the expansion. The expansion
04:15 also came with the expansion pack too. Three additional sealed movie based
04:18 trivia cards and a 15 second orange sand timer. You can also use that as well with
04:23 the game. What else do you get? You also of course get yourself a little pocket
04:28 here on the side. The pocket will store inside a quick reference guide of
04:32 exactly how to play the game and then on the back if any bit of my instructions
04:36 during this video don't make enough sense you can also scan the QR code
04:39 it'll tell you exactly how to play the game. You also get different ways of
04:43 Michael moving through the board. So you get yourself a level one Michael moving
04:47 board. You get yourself a level two. I don't know why these were in off order.
04:52 You get a level two where you can see he makes a little bit more movements and
04:56 there's also a level three a little bit harder as well. You can choose which
04:59 setting of Michael movements you want for the game. You also get as well a
05:02 sticker. A sticker will you know doesn't really go necessarily with the game but
05:05 I'll peel this off and I'm sure put it in a book somewhere. And then you also
05:09 get yourself again this is basically now part of the basic game you get yourself
05:13 a little satin bag that can store all the token character pieces the dice the
05:17 weapons all that other stuff and it's just a drawstring so you can close that
05:20 up. It says also trick-or-treat on the front with the skeleton the little
05:23 pumpkin skeleton there on the front. You get yourself a dice rolling cup. I'm glad
05:28 that they always include these. The one that we first looked at with Silent
05:31 Night Deadly Night in fact was actually a chimney but this is just basically a
05:34 black cup of course it's got the skull and the pumpkin here on the front. This
05:37 will be good for then rolling the dice. Speaking of the dice you also get
05:40 yourself three dice that have to be rolled all the time. You get one that
05:44 rolls Michael Myers you'll know that one by the fact it's orange. You get one that
05:47 rolls you as the player and then you get yourself an action dice that basically
05:51 will tell you either draw a card another one is black for example so if you want
05:56 to for example get the security badge you'll have to draw like a blank and
06:00 then you can get yourself the the the safety badge so to speak. It'll basically
06:04 save your life if you happen to come across Michael Myers and you'll of
06:07 course just put that in a cup and rattle it around for you to play. Something else
06:11 you of course you get with this with all the other games you've gotten yourself
06:14 some weapons and the weapons I will say one of the unlockable perks was the fact
06:18 that they've done these now in metal. Get yourself the needle syringe looks
06:22 really good. You get as well the scalpel the hammer. I'm guessing this to be Mrs.
06:29 Garrett's knife. You want mustard with that? No? Okay. And then as well you get
06:34 yourself Dr. Loomis's lighter. Get out! Of course a little lighter. You have to
06:39 have basically a weapon just to run through this for anybody that's not
06:42 familiar with these type of games you have to have yourself always a weapon at
06:46 the time that you come across the killer. The killer essentially will move from
06:49 the top corner and work his way down you'll move from this side and work your
06:53 way up and when you meet in the middle you then have to spin the provided I
06:57 know this is gonna be a lot of steps you're gonna spin basically the little
07:00 spinning you know little spinning disc here and it gives you then the option of
07:04 either Michael kills you you lose you get you kill Michael you win or you get
07:10 still fighting spin again in order to get to Michael and survive you have to
07:15 have yourself a weapon in hand and one of the weapons of course can be acquired
07:19 when you go across then the board so that's basically like everything that
07:22 comes include the game and of course the other thing that you always need then is
07:25 to draw the cards the cards will just quickly flip through you get a stack of
07:28 cards here some of these for example say nurse Karen thinks Michael is bud swap
07:33 your space with another player another card we have here is everybody goes
07:38 everyone goes back out everybody goes back out I don't know why that this word
07:42 that say way it was if you are in a shape zone play another turn another one
07:47 we have here is and everybody goes back out if you are in the shape zone play
07:52 another turn obviously these will be good only if you're really shuffling the
07:55 cards don't want to just be drawing them the way that they coming out of the box
07:57 Michael went down the wrong hallway move Michael back to spaces and you also get
08:04 yourself they killed Ben trim this I love this one they killed Bill Ben Traymor
08:07 everyone loses a skull pumpkin now you may be asking yourself what's the skull
08:12 pumpkins for well your skull pumpkins essentially is your life every one of
08:17 these every player that plays gets three pumpkins and if you lose all your
08:21 pumpkins you essentially die now if you do get down to the point where you are
08:25 out of pumpkins if you happen to have for example I know it sounds confusing
08:28 if you happen to have yourself for example a weapon you can trade the
08:32 weapon or you can also trade the police badge with another player in exchange
08:36 for one of their pumpkins you always want to make sure you have these because
08:39 at the moment you lose any of these the moment you get down to zero you're
08:43 basically out of the game doesn't make sense I don't know a lot of it I just
08:47 feel they overly complicate something that could be so simply straightforward
08:50 getting on to the pieces that come include the basic game you get three
08:54 versions of Michael Myers now you're not gonna play all three versions but it has
08:58 Michael Myers if different weapons ones with a scalpel one is actually is that
09:02 the scalper ones with the scalper it's just a different pose of Michael with
09:05 the scalp with bleeding eyes and then one is with the knife and just choose
09:08 which one you want to use Michael primarily is gonna be wanting it be on
09:11 the black standees well again like the rest of the main playing characters were
09:15 all be on the orange standees the ones that are playable at least you can
09:19 choose from our Jimmy yet Sheriff Brackett dr. Loomis of course and again
09:24 you're I think they probably did this to save having to pay the likeness rights
09:28 those actors again you only get the bottom half of his face there's dr.
09:31 Loomis it's pretty on both sides get as well mrs. Elrod funny enough that we get
09:36 mrs. Elrod as one of the basic playing cards but like characters like oh I
09:39 don't know like Laurie Strode Laurie Strode I guess the hot the idea in mind
09:44 is you're supposed to be protecting Laurie ironically enough though she was
09:46 only available in the expansion pack and yet mrs. Elrod made the cut no pun
09:51 intended the figure also as well the other playing pieces are mrs. elves and
09:55 you also get yourself nurse Karen it can get awfully cold in here so those are
10:02 everything that comes included with the game the only other thing to mention of
10:05 course is the sheriff's bad or the police badge this basically gives you
10:09 immunity so if you come across Michael it will save you at least providing again
10:13 you you roll it and you know again you basically will live one time if you
10:17 still have yourself the police badge and then the other thing if that wasn't
10:21 complicated enough you also get these roadblock pieces depending on if you
10:25 land on a spot that allows you to place down a roadblock it basically will block
10:29 off one of the square tiles where a player or even Michael can't cross that
10:33 and you have to then go around it with all of that now said I'm gonna pick up
10:38 what is a very tiny looking board and there's two ways to play the game you
10:42 can either play it in the stock setting which basically is Michael roaming
10:45 around the streets of Haddonfield or you can flip it around and play the
10:49 killboard which is him then in Haddonfield Memorial Hospital and again
10:53 you can see some really nice looking artwork that they've used across this
10:56 the problem with it though is as good as it may look it's so small and to start
11:01 Michael really up here and work your and have him working down and then you're
11:04 basically starting here and working your way up there's really not a lot of
11:07 territory to cover before you eventually cross paths with the shape I really do
11:12 think and this is one thing that has been a continued problem I've noticed
11:15 with all of these games is that they make the board games way too small I
11:18 feel at least the width is fine like if this is the width of the board I feel
11:22 like the game should probably be twice as long that's just my thought at least
11:26 I mean the game itself looks great but it's just way too short and it's way too
11:30 small they should have spent the time and spent the effort and spent the
11:33 finances to make the board at least twice like literally like twice the
11:37 length that it is right now so if you were to say start the game basically
11:41 what you would do is you pick your pick your player I'm gonna just pick mrs.
11:44 Elrod for right now and you're gonna take yourself Michael Myers and Michael
11:47 Myers would then be at the top half now you can choose for yourself which player
11:51 goes first you can do rock-paper-scissors you can I'm sure just
11:53 roll the dice and the highest one goes first but you're basically gonna take
11:57 your dice put them in the block or put them in a little cup shake them back and
12:00 forth and then dump out the contents now obviously doing this on a flat surface
12:05 makes a little bit more sense it doesn't look like you're cheating then but
12:08 Michael essentially will be rolling to two spaces I think I landed on what five
12:12 for mils mrs. Elrod and then I also landed on let's just say for this I drew
12:16 a card so Michael will then move two spaces so again like if you want to take
12:20 for example you have to look at the cards here let's say if we were playing
12:24 level one Michael Myers Michael Myers basically be going down across up and
12:28 basically this way so based on that if I can get the pieces here Michael is gonna
12:32 then move down to the hallway shortcut mrs. Elrod on the other hand though can
12:38 then move well she's gonna move five so we can go like one two three four five
12:42 and there's a hallway shortcut there now she also has to draw of course a card
12:46 because that's what one of the things that was with the black dice so I know
12:49 very confusing we're gonna draw a card and based on this let's just you know a
12:52 grab a random card one that we haven't already looked at this one does say
12:56 circle the block again place a roadblock on your space so that actually worked
13:01 out well you can place yourself now a roadblock not only does the roadblock
13:04 then prevent Michael Myers from crossing that area but also all the other players
13:08 have to walk around the roadblock to get to the other side if the if the
13:14 description and the way I've explained it does make the board game it'll sound
13:17 a little confusing it's because it is the problem with the game though is not
13:20 only is the board game way too small but also because all these extra things that
13:25 they had to incorporate like the roadblock for example like the sheriff's
13:28 badge the idea that you always have to have life you always have to have these
13:32 little pumpkin pieces and you also have to have yourself a weapon when you
13:36 cross paths with Michael Myers I feel like if anything they probably could
13:39 have just trimmed a lot of that back made in fact the board game a lot bigger
13:43 than what it is and then just simplified the game so that anybody could pick it
13:47 up without having to always go back and look at the game I mean even just to
13:50 have Michael Myers moving around you you'll always have to have the card in
13:54 front of you to know exactly which way which path Michael Myers is gonna take
13:57 it's one of those things from a collector's standpoint that the game is
14:01 it's more of a collecting piece than it is an actual game the times that have
14:05 actually played not just this one but also silent night deadly night and my
14:09 bloody Valentine honestly I spent more time trying to explain the person I was
14:12 playing with what exactly they had to do next wait what am I supposed to do now
14:16 okay well first you have to draw a card then you have to have a weapon then you
14:20 have to have a pumpkin I spent more time actually trying to explain the game than
14:23 actually playing and having fun with the game again it's one of those things
14:27 where unfortunately they had already done this first time with silent night
14:31 deadly night and then they simply just rinsed and repeated every single time
14:34 after that it's not one I would certainly say from a fun standpoint it's
14:37 a game you want to pick up and play all the time I would think if anything you'd
14:40 want to just pick it up as a collector's item more than anything else have you
14:43 guys collected any of these Kickstarter horror board games and if you have let
14:47 me know down below in the comment section which ones you guys also if you
14:50 have picked up Halloween - let me know if you think of it as a fun game or you
14:54 just think that the overly complicated something that didn't need to be this
14:57 complicated in the first place also as well if you guys enjoyed this video one
15:00 hit with like you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and certainly
15:03 do want to stick around for more while we may be wrapping up things right now
15:06 for board games there's definitely a lot more videos coming your way as always
15:09 guys thanks for watching see you guys next time
15:14 you
15:17 you
