Jakks Pacific The Simpsons Wave 5 Edna Krabappel 5" Figure Review

00:30While Edna's been waiting a while for a reply from Woodrow,
00:32I had to wait a while it seemed to get my hands on Edna Krabappel here.
00:36That doesn't sound right.
00:37Finally, though, of all the places I was able to find the figure, on Amazon.
00:41For a good price, too.
00:42And I didn't have it delayed, like other times I've ordered from the site before.
00:46Yeah, Edna finally showed up.
00:48I think I ordered her in one day, and then maybe just a couple of days after that,
00:51she dropped off at my doorstep.
00:53And before, of course, we get things going and talk about the accessories that come in clear with the figure,
00:57let's, of course, as we always do, grab the tape measure and see how tall Edna Krabappel's going to stand.
01:02If I'm looking at this correctly, what, four and a quarter inches?
01:05That seems about right.
01:06That's going to translate to a figure that's about ten and a half centimeters tall.
01:10Now, I'm a bit torn here.
01:11She is technically the former teacher of Bart Simpson.
01:14But seeing, though, that Bart Simpson was part of the same wave as her in hockey attire,
01:17I'm going to bring in that as the example here.
01:19This same wave also did consist of Grandpa Simpson.
01:22All of these figures, by the way, we've already had a look at,
01:24so if you guys did want to go back and look at my reviews of those,
01:27go ahead, do your thing, as I'm going to continue to do my thing.
01:30We don't have, though, a principal Skinner,
01:32but we do have, again, a couple of other people that may show up from time to time at Springfield
01:36Elementary.
01:37Here's what the figure looks like with both Willie and Otto.
01:40Now, unfortunately, the actress that voiced the role of Miss Krabappel was Marsha Wallace.
01:44Marsha Wallace did pass away on October 25, 2013, at the age of 70, due to pneumonia and sepsis.
01:49What I do respect, though, is that the studio that made The Simpsons chose not to recast the voice.
01:54Instead, they send her off and wrote the character out of the series.
01:59The figure, though, does come in clue with two accessories.
02:01Unfortunately, though, one thing, too, with the accessories is they're very small,
02:04and I find that they don't hold in her hand all that well at all.
02:07The figure does have, first of all, a brush, of course, to wipe away the chalkboard.
02:12All those things that Bart scribbles at the beginning intro,
02:14she would have to then go back in there and say,
02:16Ugh, Bart, and just wipe away everything like I'm Bart Simpson,
02:20with some of the other things that Bart has written across the chalkboard.
02:23It's been a while, though, since I've seen an episode of The Simpsons.
02:26She does also come in clue with a ruler.
02:27Now, the ruler doesn't have any details on it at all.
02:30I would think, though, that that's just a standard-sized ruler.
02:34Here's the thing about these accessories.
02:36Neither one of them really fit into her hands at all.
02:38Sure, you can look at the hands, and you know right away which accessory goes to wear.
02:42Like, because of the smaller grip, ruler's going to go over here, right?
02:45Because she has a wider grip over here, the chalk brush is going to go over here.
02:50Unfortunately, though, neither work all that well.
02:52If you want to try to take, like, the ruler, for example,
02:54the ruler, if you slide it in this way, well, it sits way too loose.
02:58So a lot of people, I'm sure, like myself, would want to try to
03:02fit the ruler so it's in between her fingers and her thumb.
03:05And I find you really have to wedge it to get it in there.
03:07If you bang this, for example, though, I find that the ruler does fall out of her hands,
03:11but the chalk brush is even harder to do.
03:14If you look at the width of her hand between her thumb and her pointer,
03:17you can't put the chalk brush really this way.
03:20If you do, it doesn't stay in her very well.
03:23Or you can also try to put it by width, but then that's not going to fit it either.
03:28You sort of have to kind of wedge it there and hope that no one's going to cough,
03:32no one's going to sneeze, and whatever you do, please don't bang it.
03:36Because again, the chalk brush just doesn't stay well enough in her hand.
03:39Had they only made the hand just a little bit bigger or curved it in just a little bit more,
03:44I feel those two things could have at least fixed the problem of her properly holding the chalk brush.
03:50And just leave those for the side for right now.
03:53Getting a closer look at Mrs. Krabappel.
03:56You know, again, I've said this in the times that we've looked at Jack's Pacific Simpsons figures before,
04:00and I'm going to say this again.
04:01I mean, like, look how far along we've come between the 2.5-inch scale figures
04:05and these larger scale figures.
04:07How many, though, of the characters of Springfield have we already covered?
04:11The fact that even like this wave, for example, I know we get a Hockey Bart.
04:14Not many people would really be all that interested in Hockey Barts.
04:16But the fact, though, we get a Troy McClure and a Mrs. Krabappel.
04:20If this was another studio, and I'm not going to say the company that was responsible for Simpsons before,
04:24how long would we have waited for a Mrs. Krabappel?
04:27Or, funny though, the irony of that, we probably would have gotten Mrs. Krabappel long
04:30before we would have got a regular Lisa or a regular Homer.
04:34Hetskull looks pretty good for her.
04:36She is very shiny and plastic, and I'm not just saying that because the studio lights are shining on her
04:41either.
04:42She does cast, though, a lot of reflection off her hair.
04:45I'm sure, though, it's just kind of plastic, though, that Jack's Pacific are using for the figures.
04:49She has also very small feet, similar, though, to Marge.
04:54Because of that, though, I've noticed that she has a harder time to stand.
04:57It doesn't also help either that she's got such a large head.
04:59I've got the eyelashes. Those are nicely painted in there, too.
05:02Tiny little peepers, puping, pupils.
05:05And then she also does have, of course, the little earrings that she has on the sides.
05:09I don't know what chance there may be that we'll get another couple of variations of Mrs. Krabappel.
05:14Some of the more sultry outfits that she wore in this series.
05:17But if we only get really a one and we're done,
05:20getting at least the look that she has as the teacher is not a bad thing at all.
05:23Now, the shirt, if I just kind of move the arms up right now,
05:26the jacket or sports coat that she wears is molded technically to the top of the torso or to the
05:32front of the torso.
05:33So you can't, you can tell, like, this isn't, maybe it is a separate piece,
05:37but it certainly does feel like it's, it's either really glued on there or this is just all one piece.
05:42I don't feel like it necessarily needs to have layers.
05:45I mean, sometimes it's nice to be able to go there and know that this is a separate jacket.
05:49But again, like, this is all kind of one piece.
05:51The coloring, though, that she has matches that pretty close to the cartoon.
05:55Soft goods material, though, for the plastic that they've used for the skirt.
05:58I think the skirt's also the right length.
05:59And also, while everything else doesn't really match, at least it does match the shoes.
06:03The shoes, by the way, do have pickles and the bombs of them.
06:06Jack's never does really include a display stands with any of their Simpsons figures.
06:10Mrs. Krabappel doesn't have it either.
06:12But, though, again, if you want to use yourself a display stand, do I have one here on the ready?
06:17I'm just looking around, looking around.
06:19Oh, I do have one.
06:20I just have one over here.
06:21This is just a McFarlane Toys display stand.
06:23A couple of people have asked me before, can you use a McFarlane Toys display stand?
06:27You can't.
06:28The length, though, of the post, not to mention, too, like, the size of the peg hole in the bottom
06:32of the figure's feet, just doesn't work.
06:34It doesn't work.
06:34So you can't use display stands for that.
06:36I always kind of really think, like, when you get figure companies that are producing figures that have unique shaped
06:41holes in the bottoms of their feet that you know can't be universally used without a display stand, include a
06:46display stand, because you're never, as a collector, going to be able to find anything that's going to properly fit
06:51those peg holes.
06:55For the figure's articulation, Mrs. Kerbopel does have a head that rotates all the way around.
06:59Don't go in there expecting the figure's going to have posability of a ball joint.
07:03No, it's only just going to be a peg.
07:05But the head rotates as well as it does.
07:07Arms rotate all the way around as well.
07:09You can bring them out at a T-pose if you prefer.
07:11The figure does also have a bicep swivel.
07:13Single hinge only in the elbow.
07:15I will say, though, luckily getting Mrs. Kerbopel out of her plastic prison, no joints, from what I can see
07:20at least, are loose.
07:22The hands do rotate all the way around.
07:23You can not really hinge them.
07:25I guess you can hinge them back just a little bit as well.
07:28There is a waist swivel.
07:29Not a ball joint, by the way.
07:30It's just a regular swivel.
07:31The legs split.
07:32Now, speaking of splits, they did actually put a split on the side of her skirt.
07:36I don't think it necessarily adds anything more to what you can do with her legs.
07:39That's as far of a split as you can get for Edna here.
07:42Forward and back on the legs, but again, very limited by the fact that she does have the skirt that
07:46cubs her over top of it.
07:47If you were to lift the skirt, stop that, perverts.
07:50You would actually notice, though, the figure does actually have a hinge right here in her knee.
07:55It doesn't really necessarily allow for the lower leg to rotate.
07:58The feet move up and down.
07:59They rock back and forth.
08:01Did I ever say that she has pickles?
08:03I know I did.

08:04I haven't lost my mind just yet.
08:07Nice looking figure.
08:08I mean, again, this would be a character that I would imagine the longtime collectors,
08:13the collectors that have already been collecting the Jack-specific Simpsons figures,
08:16will then still be interested to get the likes of a Mrs. Caboppel.
08:19Probably the same way, too.
08:20Like, you're probably going to be picking up a Troy McClure because you're already collecting regular Simpsons characters.
08:25Speaking of regulars, I know we did bring in earlier Hockey Bart, but I want to bring in just a
08:29regular Bart.
08:30Here's also Millhouse.
08:31Everything's coming up Millhouse.
08:34Nice looking Mrs. Caboppel overall.
08:35I'm glad finally to have picked this one up.
08:38I've seen her online, but the prices of what she originally was going for was way too high for me.
08:43I wasn't going to go that route.
08:44Luckily, again, for me, I just happened to be on Amazon.
08:47I was looking up other things.
08:48And sometimes while I'm looking at other things, I just happen to kind of check the basics.
08:52Master Universe, Necker, DC Multiverse, and also Jack-specific Simpsons, just to see if something was sitting online.
08:59Sure enough, though, while other figures have gone up in price, I think Mrs. Caboppel was like $36.99, $36
09:04.98,
09:05somewhere along those lines.
09:06But that was more than well and enough of a price that I was willing to take, I wouldn't say
09:11take the risk,
09:11because I've already been collecting the Jack-specific figures,
09:13when I finally had the chance to finally add Mrs. Caboppel to my collection.
09:18Of course, which also did come from this same wave, Troy McClure, Grandpa Simpson, Hockey Bart.
09:24If you probably get the chance to get this wave for yourself.
09:27I would say even like Hockey Bart probably could be one that you could pass on,
09:30but I would certainly say at the very least, get Abraham, get Troy McClure, and get Edna Caboppel.
09:35Because there are the standouts, and I'm glad that finally we have, we don't have a Skinner yet,
09:39but at least we're having a Mrs. Caboppel, and we're making some progress.
09:43What did Bart write this time?
09:44I will not call the principal Spudhead?
09:48Okay, that one's kind of funny.
09:50One thing, though, about this figure, if you're interested, it's still on Amazon for $36.95.
09:54I can see, though, the writing on the chalkboard that the price of Mrs. Caboppel wasn't going to go any
09:58lower than that.
09:59And I've noticed that also with the Jack Simpsons.
10:01They never seem to depreciate in value.
10:04Once they show online as being listed, they either sell out, or you can, again, go on places like eBay
10:09and expect to pay a whole lot more.
10:11I was hoping not to pay any bit more than $35 to $40 for Edna Caboppel.
10:16And in the end, Amazon ended up having two days or so.
10:19I had to wait, and finally she was dropped off at my doorstep.
10:22I'm finally happy to have Edna Caboppel, not only just to finish the wave, because it always feels, you feel
10:27incomplete when you buy a wave of figures,
10:29or you're, like, trying to collect all the figures that are making up that wave.
10:32I already had the hockey part.
10:33We've already looked at Troy McClure and Grandpa Simpson.
10:36But left out, feeling absent from that, was Edna Caboppel.
10:39The figure now looks fantastic to have on display.
10:42One thing, though, about it is that she does have a hard time holding her accessories.
10:46I find that you kind of have to pinch the hand that holds the chalk brush and then wedge it
10:50in there.
10:51But it seems like she doesn't really hold it in a way that looks like she's really wiping a chalkboard.
10:56It looks like she's actually ready to snack on a sandwich.
