00:00The King of the Koopas has been kidnapped, but his son's come to bring him back.
00:04Here's your look at a new Jack-specific, the Super Mario Galaxy movie, Bowser Jr.
00:17Collect your favorite characters in the Super Mario Galaxy 5-inch figure series.
00:22The Bowser Jr. figure is inspired by the movie and comes with premium detailing, including 17 points of articulation.
00:27Bowser Jr. comes with a paintbrush accessory, all showcased in a window box.
00:32I don't know if there must be something just in the air, or if it's coming from the air of
00:34the Fire Kingdom.
00:35Needless, though, to say, we're going to be looking at the Super Mario Galaxy movie, Bowser Jr. now.
00:40In fact, actually, a figure that apparently is so cool.
00:42Jack's decided, though, to do two releases of him throughout this first wave.
00:46There's also going to be a Wonder Bowser Jr. that we will also be looking at this week.
00:50So I hope you guys are going to be tagging along for that.
00:52Now, Bowser Jr. does come included with his magic paintbrush.
00:55We're going to be talking about that also in a second.
00:57We don't want to get ahead of ourselves.
00:59The first thing, though, we'll do is we'll take the tape measure and go right to the very top of
01:03his head.
01:03Now, he's retconned, though.
01:05He first, though, debuted in the Super Mario Sunshine game.
01:08Prior to that, though, Bowser had a lot of kids.
01:11Apparently, now he's only got one.
01:12Bowser Jr., though, is going to stand about six inches in height,
01:15working out to be a figure that's 14 and a half centimeters tall.
01:18We're into the fourth day this week of looking at Super Mario Galaxy figures.
01:21That means we've already looked at three other figures.
01:24Those ones just happen to be Mario.
01:25Mario, we looked at Luigi, just put him over here.
01:28And we also looked at Rosalina.
01:30Boy, you're cluttering a whole lot of space over here.
01:33And what do you seem to be setting aside space over here for?
01:35Well, I'm going to bring in Bowser.
01:37This probably isn't going to be the perfect Bowser for right now.
01:41I'm sure at some point, Jax probably has plans to do a Super Mario Galaxy Bowser,
01:45whether he's going to be miniaturized.
01:46I'm sure he's going to grow to full size throughout the course of the movie.
01:49But at least for right now, I've got the stand-in one, the one from the world of Nintendo.
01:53It may have been made by Professor E. Gadd, but to come included, though, with Bowser Jr.,
01:56he gets his magic paintbrush.
01:58The paintbrush, I will say, is heavy.
02:00There's a lot more of weight right up the top here than there is down below.
02:03I'm not sure why, though, but the top of the paintbrush not only can be lifted up,
02:08maybe to allow for some additional posability,
02:10but you can actually take the entire bristle piece off altogether.
02:13I don't know why, really.
02:14I'm sure somebody could probably let me know down below in the comments section.
02:17It kind of gets sort of underneath it.
02:19It looks like an eyedropper.
02:20Like, you'd be able to squeeze this and drop liquid into the chamber here.
02:24I don't know, again, like, why you would want to remove the paintbrush.
02:27I can understand, though, like, Wonder Bowser Jr. is also going to come included with the exact same paintbrush.
02:32If maybe, for example, there was something on the end of the paintbrush, like paint, for example,
02:35you could then have swapped the two around.
02:37But it does seem, though, at least with my own eyes, that the paintbrushes are exactly the same.
02:42I would imagine, too, that they're probably going to also have the exact same problem with both Bowser Jr.'s,
02:46and that's him holding it, as good as this may look, as detailed as it is.
02:50In fact, you can even see there's Bowser Jr.'s face there on the front.
02:54As good as this may look, he has the hardest time to hold it.
02:58The problem with this, though, is they've decided to make him with articulated fingers.
03:03I don't feel like he needed to have articulated fingers.
03:06I mean, it's fine for maybe Mario, and it's fine for Luigi,
03:09even for, like, even Rosalina didn't come included with articulated fingers.
03:12But I feel like for Bowser Jr., don't give him the need to have fingers that move,
03:16because now what you're doing to that is you're causing a problem for him to properly hold the paintbrush.
03:21It's so heavy up top, and you can see it just ends up flipping itself over.
03:26I feel like had they just chose not to put articulated fingers in for Bowser Jr.,
03:30he probably would have had an easier time to hold the paintbrush.
03:34It's just awkward.
03:36I mean, you can kind of just have him propped with the paintbrush leaning forward like this,
03:39just resting against his hand.
03:42But even then, it just doesn't seem like he properly holds it well.
03:46Taking the paintbrush, just removing it for this, putting this aside for right now.
03:50Getting a closer look at Bowser Jr.
03:52Man, there's a lot of weight that went into this figure.
03:54Plastic at the abundance.
03:56You can see, like, the face sculpt does look very much like Bowser Jr.
04:00Now, you can let me know down below in the comments section,
04:02I still generally like the idea that Bowser would have had many kids in Mario 3,
04:06but apparently they retconned all of it, and now he only has one.
04:10And this one's now setting his sights for the Mushroom Kingdom and for revenge.
04:15The figure head sculpt looks pretty good, based at least from what we've seen in the trailer.
04:20Actually, I think Bowser Jr. in the movie itself is being played by Benny Safdie.
04:24I'm not actually familiar with the actor, so if you are, you can let me know where you've seen him
04:28from.
04:29But he does, I think, a pretty good voice from at least what we've seen.
04:32Bowser Jr., one of his notable traits is the fact he does have the little apron here.
04:36The little bib. The bib does have a little scary face down below.
04:39I think even in the time that he was debuted in Sunshine, he had the exact same thing.
04:43So that's one thing that's carried over with all the characters,
04:46until, of course, he becomes in wonder, where I think he loses the apron or the little bib altogether,
04:50and he gets this cool-looking gnarly grill.
04:52Yes, we will be looking at him as well.
04:54He's very back-heavy.
04:56So much more plastic, you can tell, went into the back of Bowser Jr.,
05:00that putting him on display, you really feel like there's a lot of weight.
05:03The weight of the world, just pulling back on the back of his body.
05:07Luckily, though, he at least has a stabilizing tail,
05:09which does actually have a little bit of posability, but a whole lot not much, though.
05:14He does also have the little bands that he has on his bracers, little bracelet pieces here.
05:18These seem like they are separate pieces, although, again, I can't...
05:22You can move them just a little bit up the forearm, but, again, like, you're not really going to try,
05:25I'm sure, to remove them altogether.
05:27Face sculpt, again, looks good.
05:29You've got the nice red eyes there, very large caterpillars.
05:32Look at the size of those.
05:33And he's got the little man bun on the back of his head.
05:36Face is pretty shiny, though.
05:37I mean, one thing, though, like, looking at the face,
05:39it's a lot shinier than it is for the rest of his body.
05:42The body seems as textured as it actually is.
05:45I like that they've actually given a little bit of texturing to the actual skin.
05:48But you clearly can see, though, like, when it comes to his body,
05:52his body's more of a matte finish.
05:53His face is a lot shinier.
05:55He gets really excessively sweaty right around here.
05:58For Bowser Jr.'s articulation, his head's pretty surprisingly articulated.
06:02I really was thinking, like, getting this guy out of the packaging,
06:04he wouldn't really be able to do as much as he's doing right now.
06:06But the head can look up.
06:08So eventually, though, he'd be able to literally, literally look up to Bowser
06:11when eventually Bowser gets bigger in size.
06:13The head can also rock back and forth, but just only a little bit.
06:17And the head can turn, but you're going to have a really hard time
06:20to turn it all the way around.
06:21It feels like it gets really stuck real quick.
06:25The apron, obviously, is just a separate piece, the little bib piece here.
06:28You can rotate his arms all the way around.
06:30He has a swivel, or actually, just before we talk about the swivelage,
06:33talk about the fact that there's bendage.
06:34Yeah, you can't bend the arms out 90 degrees.
06:37T-pose, if you prefer, capital T.
06:39There is a swivel here to the forearm.
06:41And also, there's a hinge right here for the elbow.
06:44So he's only got a single hinged elbow.
06:45Hands rotate all the way around.
06:47Again, I don't know if he necessarily needed to have articulated hands.
06:50I guess if he wanted to have him wave, that's fine and good.
06:53But again, I just think that that comes at the expense of now being able to properly
06:56hold the paintbrush.
06:58Leg split, fine and good.
06:59No issues there.
07:00You can take the legs and obviously move them forward and back.
07:02Not as much forward, I suppose.
07:04Well, I guess pretty good for the front.
07:05And you can also do the back as well.
07:07He's got a hinge.
07:08Now, the interesting thing about the way they've done the hinge here is when you move
07:11the hinge, you can see how much gets hidden by the thigh piece that goes over top of it.
07:15So when it's only really time to actually bend the knee is when you actually get the
07:19chance to see that hinge working behind the scenes.
07:22Ankle does move or the lower leg does turn just a little bit.
07:25Feet do also rotate all the way around.
07:27He doesn't have any toe articulation.
07:29I don't feel like he necessarily needs it either.
07:31But you know, again, like it's a good looking Bowser Jr.
07:33I don't have necessarily any things I would say negatively about Bowser Jr.
07:37I have actually more things to say really about the paintbrush.
07:40It's just heavy.
07:41It's a lot of extra weight.
07:43And then when you start to add things like articulated fingers, I think articulated fingers
07:47are fine and good for characters like Mario.
07:49And even for that matter, Luigi.
07:51I think like both of those are fine examples.
07:53Incorporate the articulation in the fingers.
07:55But then there's other ones like Rosalina, which clearly for the size of her hands, there's
07:59no real way that they could have incorporated finger bending because that just wouldn't
08:02have worked with a hand that small.
08:04I mean, for the Mario Brothers, it's fine.
08:06I don't know if it necessarily need to be the case for Bowser Jr.
08:08I have to kind of ask myself, had they gotten rid of the articulated on the figures and had
08:13instead they just molded the fingers for a C grip, then there's nothing at all I feel
08:18would have gotten in the way, prevented him from properly holding the paintbrush.
08:22Because like there's not enough of a grip.
08:25And a lot of times, again, when you're trying to get this guy to stand with the brush in his
08:28hand, if anything, you're trying more so just going to rely on leaning the
08:32paintbrush or sort of have him holding it with its leaning against his hand, seems to be
08:37the best way for Bowser Jr. to properly hold it.
08:39Now, if you did want to, you could have Bowser Jr. really also holding the magic paintbrush
08:43with both his hands instead of just the one, which right then would fix the issue that I
08:47have and the unnecessary need to include articulation in his fingers.
08:50I know it's fine to then tack on to and you can brag about it on the back of the
08:54packaging.
08:54But if it comes at the expense that you're already giving him a very heavy accessory
08:58like the magic paintbrush, if he's got these articulated fingers that gives him then an
09:03impossible means to hold that accessory, I would have rather just given him gripping
09:07hands instead.
09:08Now, this magic paintbrush, I think, plays quite the pivotal role of breaking out his
09:12dad in the Super Mario Galaxy movie.
09:14The paintbrush essentially can create sentient graffiti.
09:17So he can create essentially like graffiti monsters out of nothing.
09:21This also gives him the souped up powers of Wonder Bowser Jr.
09:24Another figure, though, that Jax is also releasing in part of the first wave of these new movie
09:28tie-in figures.
09:30Again, I really like the look of Bowser Jr.
09:32You'll see also when we look at Wonder Bowser Jr., which is probably going to be coming near
09:36the end of this week, he is a lot bigger in size.
09:38He's a little bit more expensive in price, too.
09:40Now, again, I did grab all of these from Popeye the Toyman on the Facebook selling group.
09:44These should now, I'm sure, start circulating to store shelves.
09:47If you've started to see the Super Mario Galaxy movie figures, let me know down below in
09:51the comment section.
09:52Here in Canada, I don't think we've gotten them just yet, but I'm sure, though, in the
09:56U.S., you probably guys are already seeing big, big displayers of them sitting inside
10:00your stores.
10:01Now, you can let me know down below in the comment section.
10:03Now, Bowser Jr. was introduced back in Super Mario Sunshine, which then kind of retconned
10:08the idea that Bowser would have had multiple kids they first established back in Super
10:12Mario 3.
10:13Do you like the idea of Bowser having multiple kids?
10:16Or do you like him just having Bowser Jr. instead?
10:19Let me know how you prefer to have Bowser with kids.
10:21Let me know down below in the comment section.
10:23Again, if you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solemn throw to like.
10:26You guys want to stick around for more so?
10:28I hope so.
10:29We're four down.
10:30Four down into this week.
10:31We've still got, again, two more reviews to look at.
10:33We're going to be looking at the Super Mario Galaxy Yoshi.
10:35And we will also be capping that off by looking at the Wonder Bowser Jr. as well.
10:40So I hope you guys are going to be coming back for that.
10:42As always, guys, thanks for watching.
10:43See you guys next time.
