00:00Clearing the path of the Darkling Lord's Wrath.
00:03Here's your retro look at the Hasbro Visionaries' Knights of the Magical Light.
00:07Spectral Knights capture Chariot.
00:20Mystical Motion Holograms release a flaming shield of protection.
00:24Includes Feral, fully posable driver with three-dimensional holographic chest shield.
00:28Removable gunner pods act as hovercrafts for aerial reconnaissance missions.
00:32And Battle Puncher tosses enemy lords out of its way while smashing through fortress-like defenses.
00:37After recently looking at the Darkling Lord's 1987 Skyclaw from the Visionaries' toy line,
00:42I thought perhaps it would also be a good time this week to look at something from the Spectral Knights.
00:46I suppose I probably could have looked at the Lancer Cycle, but I decided to do something instead a little
00:50bit bigger.
00:51So here in this review, we're going to be looking at the Capture Chariots.
00:54This is their go-to sort of traveling headquarters that allows for full protection, not only from the fronts, but
01:00also in the back as well.
01:02We're also going to be bringing in, shortly in a second, the Skyclaw we've already had a look at.
01:06And also, too, I'll be bringing in the Lancer Cycle.
01:08Now, piloting this is going to be, of course, Feral.
01:11Now, Feral and Ektar are going to be the two pilots for the Spectral Knights.
01:15Ektar does control the Lancer Cycle, where Feral here does pilot and control the Capture Chariots.
01:21We will be obviously looking at him as well.
01:23He does come with a helmet and, of course, his powering charging knife, which is really, again, like a weird
01:29thing to call it.
01:30It kind of comes across more like a taser than anything else.
01:32What we're going to do, though, is I'm going to grab the tape measure.
01:34Let's just move Feral just a little bit more front and center, and we'll go right to the very top
01:38of his head.
01:39And it's to be expected that, much like most G.I. Joes, this guy's going to be about three and
01:42three-quarters of an inch in height.
01:44In actual fact, though, he's actually more close to about four and a half inches.
01:48We're working roughly out, then, to be about ten and a half centimeters tall.
01:52All right, let's move him over here, and we'll just not have him fall, though, in the process.
01:56He does actually have, by the way, pegs on the bottoms of his feet.
01:59Let's give him a stand here for a second.
02:01Let's just turn carefully here the Capture Chariot.
02:03We'll go from the back of its end to the front of its battering ram,
02:06and it's actually more like 15 inches in length, or about 39 centimeters long.
02:13As for some vehicle comparisons, we'll just carefully move again over the Capture Chariot
02:17and bring in the other vehicle for the Spectral Mites, that being, of course, the Lancer Cycle.
02:22Now, again, the Lancer Cycle was piloted by Ektar,
02:25and I think, though, in the series, maybe they do establish that the pilots have to be specific to their
02:29vehicles,
02:29because I don't think there has been a time, maybe there has,
02:32where I saw that Farrow was piloting again the Lancer Cycle.
02:36Now, we've also recently, this week, looked at,
02:38and I guess this was sort of the catalyst that caused me to have a look at some of these
02:41vintage Visionaries toys.
02:43We also looked at one of my all-time favorites.
02:45Here's what it also looks like with the Sky Claw.
02:47Now, my Capture Chariot is complete.
02:49It's also complete with box.
02:51Let's just move that in right now so you guys can see.
02:53I love, again, like the artwork that they would have had for these old 80s toy lines,
02:57and nothing for me, at least, gets any bit better than the Visionaries' Knights of the Magical Lights.
03:01Piloted, though, in the front, you can see, again, there's Feral.
03:03So, Cryotech is in the back.
03:05You may not be really able to see them, but that's also Leader Leoric.
03:09And, again, one of the cool things, though, about the floating hovering pods
03:12is that they also had hands that literally just threw fireballs.
03:16What's interesting, too, is if, again, looking on the back of the box,
03:20there's a file card down below, and I'll show you guys what that file card looks like.
03:24For Feral, it says,
03:25A shifty knight with great battle experience and smooth tactical finesse.
03:30Only he has the ability to power and drive the awesome Capture Chariot with strategic assault missions.
03:36Mystical personality symbolized by the wolf,
03:39he enables Feral to craftily advance into enemy outposts,
03:44attacking Darkling Lords while they sleep.
03:47Vehicle power Capture Chariot gunner pods are shielded by eerie mystical hands,
03:53hurling endless fireballs that engulfed the enemy in flames.
03:57Like with before, when we looked at the Skyclaw, there is, again, a summons.
04:01Now, the summons were something, though, that the pilots in the series never actually did.
04:04It was only those that actually wielded the staffs that actually had summons.
04:08Still, though, his summons listed on the back is fire.
04:11Draw upon the breath of stars and scorch the skies with fiery scars.
04:16It's kind of cool.
04:17I've yet to actually cut this out.
04:19I don't know if I had plans really to cut it out,
04:21because, again, it's just going to cause damage,
04:22and it's going to have a big hole on the back of the box,
04:25and I don't want that to happen.
04:27I'm just going to move the box, though, out of the way.
04:30And actually, again, I have everything complete here for the Capture Chariot.
04:34Of course, there's Feral.
04:35Let's just move back in here the Capture Chariot.
04:38I still have the instructions for how everything was put together.
04:42Very little in the way of assembly.
04:43You can kind of at least get an idea.
04:45There's a top and a bottom half that would have had to have been snapped together.
04:48Snap then on the wheels.
04:50Attach the cannon that's going to go in the back, the little turret that it has.
04:53And then you had to individually attach all the three pieces to form the hovering pods.
04:59It's pretty straightforward.
05:00Again, there's also a sticker application down below here as well.
05:03Even though I did actually buy this with the box intact,
05:06the actual Capture Chariot, I didn't have to assemble it.
05:08Everything was already done already.
05:10But again, there's, again, some sticker application, so at least to get an idea.
05:13And then on the front, it shows you, though, that Feral does come include not only with just the helmet,
05:18but also as well, he comes with his little...
05:20Now, again, they call this electro-charged knife.
05:23I call it kind of more of a taser than anything else.
05:25But again, there's the instructions.
05:28I'm going to move those out of the way as well.
05:30Something I didn't get the chance to show you when we did the review of Skyclaw
05:33that I can show you now with the Capture Chariot, you get as well.
05:36The little pamphlet to advertise all the stuff that's available in the toy line.
05:40I think at planned, they had originally wanted to make the actual headquarters for Merklin.
05:45They didn't end up doing that, though.
05:47There was a supposed second series or second run of Visionaries' toys,
05:52but never really came to, again, fruition.
05:54You can check off your figures that you have on the side here.
05:56It's Spectral Knights and Darkling Lords.
05:58And then on this side, you have, again, all the figures.
06:02So the Spectral Knights featured on this side, the Darkling Lords on the other,
06:06the Darkling Lords vehicles, the Capture Chariot, or Darkling Lords Skyclaw and the Dagger Assault.
06:11And over here, the Spectral Knights Lancer Cycle and Capture Chariot.
06:15What's interesting, though, is the original prototype for the Capture Chariot
06:18actually did have the battering ram done in gray,
06:21when in the cartoon and in the actual toy, the battering ram is, in fact, done in black.
06:27Just fold this up carefully because I don't want to damage this at all.
06:30I love holding on to these.
06:32I have actually, like, a little binder.
06:34I should show you guys really one time.
06:35It has all, like, the original, like, advertisements for, like, old 80s and vintage toys.
06:40I like to hold on to these as best I can.
06:43As for, though, the pilot that comes included with the Capture Chariot,
06:46you get yourself Feral.
06:48We looked at already Skyclaw.
06:51Skyclaw came included with Mortrid.
06:53A similar size of bodies, obviously.
06:55Feral's going to be kind of more in all yellow, mustard yellow.
06:58Well, Mortrid does things more better in purple and blue.
07:02They also have, of course, the little totem there on the front.
07:05The totem is that of a wolf.
07:08Ektar was a fox, if memory serves me correctly.
07:11You can remove these, by the way, but, again, I always feel like if you're going to be popping
07:14things off like this, there's always a risk.
07:16Essentially, it pegs in.
07:17There's two holes on the inside, and then it has to go underneath here.
07:21But, again, the one thing I really worry about is this little lip of plastic.
07:25Over the time of, obviously, when it's been 40 years plus, even longer than that,
07:30I would think that that probably would cause breakage to the plastic if I ever decide to
07:34take the totem piece off.
07:35But it's removal if you did want to.
07:37Also, Feral does, much like Mortrid, also have the rubber band, the O-ring, on the inside.
07:43Unfortunately, though, unlike G.I.
07:44Joe's, there is no hole on the back of the figure's body.
07:47So, normally, with G.I.
07:48Joe's, if you ever happen to have an O-ring break, I've done this lots of times as a kid,
07:52you'd be able to unscrew the back of the body, sort of unsandwich the front half from the
07:57back half, take your new O-ring, feed it onto, there would be like a little metal coat hanger.
08:03So, it would have like ball pegs on both sides that basically would attach the legs.
08:07And then you have like a little hook piece that would then hook onto the O-ring,
08:11and then the O-ring would attach onto the inside of the torso.
08:13Again, as a kid in the 80s, I'm sure lots of kids did that with their old G.I.
08:17Joe's.
08:18But unfortunately, though, when it comes to Feral, he can't do that because there's no
08:22hole on the back of his body.
08:23So, when these eventually do wear down, deteriorate over time, there's no way to,
08:28unfortunately, not that I'm aware of at least, where he can change out the O-ring.
08:32Feral's face, again, for the rest of his body, looks good too.
08:35One of my favorite episodes from the Visionaries is an episode called Feral Steps Out,
08:38where he decides just he wants to leave the war altogether, and he decides to walk away.
08:44What's funny, though, is that he also walks away with the Capture Chariot.
08:47Being, I'm guessing, to be the only pilot that actually can control this,
08:50he happens to take the one thing the Spectral Knights can need to thwart the efforts of the
08:55Darkling Lords.
08:56I always kind of found that was funny.
08:58But at one point, too, in that episode, the Darkling Lords try to actually enlist Feral,
09:03and Feral outright refuses.
09:04To the point, though, in fact, that Darkstorm, which I just happen to have over here,
09:09summons, though, where's his staff?
09:11I have his staff still over here.
09:13Summons Decay.
09:16I couldn't remember the summons of my life.
09:18I do, but normally right now, it happens to be the fact that I'm just recording it.
09:22He summons, though, Decay, and actually, though, Feral runs out of this saloon that he's in,
09:27and actually uses the back turrets, the little back floating pots to fire a cannonball, like
09:32fire a fireball, and destroys the Creature of Decay.
09:36So cool.
09:37Feral, though, does come included with the helmet, so the helmet just goes over top of
09:40his head.
09:41I worry really less about scraping the front of the face.
09:43Maybe, if anything, scrape the sides of his head.
09:45But he does have an open helmet, unlike some of the others.
09:49He does also, again, come included with his charging knife.
09:52Why are we calling this a charging knife?
09:53It looks kind of more like a fork and a prong, and this would kind of charge in the middle.
09:58I mean, if not, if anything, isn't that a cattle prod or like a taser?
10:02But again, they call it a charging knife.
10:04That's even in the instructions what they call it.
10:06It comes in with that.
10:08Move that to the side.
10:10Feral's articulation, if you're familiar already with GI Joe's, it's going to be exactly
10:13the same.
10:14Head's going to be, again, somewhat of a ball joint, enough at least to do what he's doing
10:18right now.
10:18You could rotate the head back and forth as well.
10:20You take the arms.
10:21Those rotate, too.
10:22You can hinge those out.
10:24The figure does have a swivel in his bicep.
10:26Now, I don't know if I mentioned that when we looked at Mortrid, but these figures do
10:30possess as well a bicep swivel, single hinged elbow, nothing in the hand.
10:34Of course, all the articulation that gets afforded for the fact this figure does have an O-ring,
10:38so you can move it up and down and back and forth, too.
10:40Legs split up.
10:42Forward and back, they go.
10:43Sometimes, though, I've noticed with Feral, more than anyone else, sometimes his legs pop
10:47out.
10:48I just have to kind of keep popping them back in.
10:50And this kind of worries me a little bit because I don't want to worry that, again, the O-ring
10:53is always something like this.
10:54You really have to protect.
10:56But again, legs move forward and back.
10:58Just tuck those legs back in there.
10:59He has a bend of the knee.
11:01And that's it.
11:02He does, by the way, have pebbles on the bobs of his feet as well.
11:05There isn't, not that I'm aware of it, there isn't, seems to be a space.
11:08No, there's no pegs at all on the capture chariot.
11:11By the way, though, because, again, he's the pilot.
11:13He's going to sit front and center into the front cockpits.
11:16And let's just have a look at that right now.
11:19This is, by the way, I've had two capture chariots.
11:22And essentially, I Frankensteined them together.
11:24The first one I picked up, I think, had, from what I remember, the body needed work.
11:31It was a little more aged and old.
11:33Actually, now that I've come to think about it, I think I may have even, in fact, picked
11:36up three capture chariots, where, like, the first body was pretty bad, but, like, the
11:40gun turret, I think, was pretty clean, and it was in pretty good working condition.
11:44The battering rams on that one, I think, were pretty bad, too.
11:47So I picked up a second one, and everything was good.
11:50I was able to swap things around.
11:52The battering ram, I think, was a little worse for wear.
11:56So when I picked up the third one, and I think the third one really was the one that
11:59kind of made the best changes, because the little hoverpods were in really bad conditions,
12:04the first two that I owned.
12:06And again, like, this sort of is the culmination of having three capture chariots, and it sort
12:10of had been put in together.
12:12This one right here isn't the one that belongs to this box.
12:15The one that belonged to the box was actually the second capture chariot, which, again,
12:18I think had the better, now that I think about it, the better battering ram.
12:23So again, no assembly was required.
12:25That was already done well in advance when I picked this up.
12:28One of the benefits, actually, of this vehicle, too, is that you can actually put it inside
12:31the back of the box without really having to do anything.
12:33The only thing that you really need to do is remove, again, the hoverpods.
12:37Once those get taken out, you sort of can then fold these in, and the capture chariot
12:42can slide easily back into the box.
12:44Of course, you may just want to fold this down.
12:47So what we'll do first is we'll take ourselves ferrule, and we'll just bend the legs just
12:52a little bit here, and we'll slide them into the cockpit.
12:55Now, there's no sticker application at all.
12:57In fact, I don't think, outside really of, like, the holograms, I don't think there's anything
13:01at all that you really add for sticker applications for the visionary toys or vehicles.
13:06So what you're going to do is just take yourself ferrule.
13:09Ferrule will slide inside the cockpit area here.
13:13Get his arms, obviously, out of the way, too.
13:15It might make things a little bit easier for him to sit.
13:17And while we're also at it, too, let's go ahead and get his helmet on him, too.
13:21So sticker application.
13:23Obviously, you've got yourself some holograms here on the front.
13:26And this battering ram, again, was pulled from another capture chariot.
13:30This was obviously the best of the three that I had.
13:32These move back and forth, and actually how it works is these little buttons, not even
13:36so much really buttons or levers, you just push them back like this.
13:40And you have sort of more like a cow catcher or battering ram.
13:44These do move up.
13:46I mean, it doesn't really do much more after that.
13:48You can also see, too, where the big tires are attached.
13:50Tires would have been attached on the front.
13:52Larger tires, though, attached on the back.
13:54And you can also see stamped on the bottom, 1987.
13:59Stickers are also usually applied to these.
14:01Now, you always get these little Merklin stickers.
14:04That was on the Skyclaw that we've looked at.
14:06It's also on the Lancer Cycle.
14:08And even when eventually we get around to looking at the Dagger Assault, the Dagger Assault
14:12also has these Merklin symbols as well.
14:16On the back, you can see that.
14:18Now, these would be, of course, the little pylons here that would hold the
14:21the Hover Pods.
14:23Now, the neat thing about the Hover Pods was that you can actually take yourself
14:27secondary Spectral Knights.
14:28You could have them sitting inside of that.
14:30And then on the back of this, which may not be able to work as well,
14:34you can see there's a hand.
14:36Can you see that there's a hand?
14:37But what it's essentially doing, though, is it's throwing a fireball.
14:43Let's see if this one works a little bit better.
14:46I think also the original ones.
14:47Yeah, over the years, unfortunately, this one has faded just a little bit.
14:51It's maybe even a little harder now to make out the fact it's throwing a fireball.
14:55But anyways, you can take yourself some pilots.
14:58I just happen to have two pilots here ready.
15:00I've got Cryotech.
15:02And I've also got, of course, Leader Leoric.
15:05And again, these have held up pretty well over the time.
15:07Leoric would have been able to turn into the Lion,
15:10which you can probably see there from the front of his totem.
15:12And Cryotech would be able to turn into the Big Bear.
15:15So we can take ourselves.
15:17Let's just move this around here for a second.
15:19Take yourself your Spectral Knights.
15:21Just bend the arm here a little bit.
15:22Bend the legs just a little bit, too.
15:24And they can then sit inside these Hover Pods.
15:28And we'll do the same thing on this side, too.
15:31So take ourselves Leoric.
15:32And Leoric sits also right in the back.
15:37Which, again, is really funny, because in that episode, Farrell steps out.
15:40Farrell, when he does step out and walks away from the Spectral Knights,
15:42he's literally taking their one lone defense.
15:45I mean, yeah, there's the Lancer Cycle.
15:47But the Lancer Cycle doesn't have nearly the firepower that the Capture Chariot has.
15:53Outside of having rolling wheels,
15:54one other thing that the Capture Chariot does also have, too,
15:57is a rotating gun turret.
15:59This does lift up and down.
16:01And you can also turn it back and forth as well.
16:03Well, this would have had to be, obviously, assembled the first time you get this out of the packaging.
16:08It's pretty white and pretty pristine.
16:11Luckily, though, I think of all the Visionary toys that I have,
16:15I would say probably the Capture Chariot is probably the one that's in the best condition.
16:19These do, again, rotate.
16:20So you can hinge those out as well.
16:23Technically, too, you could even bring these front and center.
16:25So let's just say that they're going up against the Dagger Assault,
16:28which would be the largest of all the vehicles.
16:31These turrets can either face forward and fire lasers forward towards them.
16:35Or, again, you can turn these around and they can throw the hand fireballs instead.
16:39And at any given moment, if it takes to the skies,
16:42you can also lift these up, too.
16:44And all of a sudden, they've got floating hoverpods, which is pretty cool, too.
16:49Yeah, I think the third Capture Chariot.
16:52And we're speaking like we're talking like 20 years or so back.
16:55So I was able to get these at a pretty good price.
16:57I think there has been sort of a nostalgic resurgence where old collectors like myself,
17:02my age, are probably now starting to track these vehicles down,
17:06the older toys that they would have had as kids.
17:08So now is the time that you're probably finding this stuff for much more of an expensive price.
17:13Back then, though, there was sort of, again, a time like when I was on eBay
17:17and I was buying up a lot of these visionary toys,
17:20nobody really was interested in these.
17:21And that was also the time that I was picking up a lot of Generation 1 Transformers
17:25and picking up like some of the combiners.
17:27I was getting a Menasaur for like $45.
17:30This, I think, from what I remember,
17:32the worst conditions of the Capture Chariots I probably spent maybe like $30 for,
17:38the one that is in the box that I think I end up pillaging the front battering ram.
17:42Again, it's been a while since I've had to put these all together.
17:46But when I Frankensteined this together,
17:48I think it was the last Capture Chariot that I was able to get the better looking,
17:51pristine hover pods.
17:52And maybe even, in fact, it was the battering ram that I ended up pulling from those toys
17:56to make the one that you're looking at right now.
17:58So it was sort of a collected effort.
18:00But again, back then when I bought the original box for the Capture Chariot,
18:04even with the box and everything intact,
18:06with the instructions,
18:08with again, like the little profit manual showing you all the additional toys
18:11that would have been available for the original Knight 87 toy line.
18:15Probably then I was paying, I want to say like $75, $80 for that.
18:19And now though, I mean, that would be a far cry.
18:21There would be very likely,
18:23unlikelihood that you'd be able to find a Capture Chariot,
18:25or any for that matter, Visionaries toys,
18:27even with their original boxes,
18:29which again, we'll just bring back the box here.
18:31If to get this now on eBay,
18:33I would say easily expect to probably pay probably like $200 to $300,
18:37depending again, the condition of how good the toy looks
18:39and how intact, again, all the accessories are that come included with it.
18:44I like this vehicle more than I like the Lancer Cycle.
18:48I mean, obviously, as it goes,
18:49you usually get a smaller size vehicle
18:50and then you get the larger, more playable vehicle.
18:53Capture Chariot certainly is the larger scale.
18:55In the same way though,
18:57that the Sky Claw was the smaller vehicle
18:59for the Darkling Lords.
19:02And then the Dagger Assault was again,
19:03like the larger vehicle kind of headquarters play set.
19:06Love the look though of the Capture Chariot.
19:08I don't know if I love it though,
19:09as much as the Sky Claw,
19:11but as the go-to vehicle for what the,
19:13you know, the Spectral Knights have to use
19:14as their defense mechanisms.
19:16I would certainly say though,
19:17the Capture Chariot is a much more interesting,
19:19cooler looking vehicle
19:20than the smaller scale Lancer Cycle
19:22that they also have in their arsenal as well.
19:24Well, episode four of Visionaries,
19:27entitled Ferris Steps Out,
19:28is in fact the one where he decides
19:29to walk away from the Spectral Knights.
19:31Irony is not certainly lost on me,
19:33the fact that not only is he walking away
19:34from the Spectral Knight team,
19:35but he's also walking away
19:37with the best chance that they have
19:38to defeat the Darkling Lords,
19:39that being the Capture Chariot.
19:41He goes to a neighboring though saloon
19:43called the Sign of the Ram
19:45in which he's approached both by Darkstorm and Mordred,
19:48hoping though to enlist the talents of him
19:50and of course his vehicle
19:51for the ranks of the Darkling Lords.
19:53Feral of course does refuse
19:54and in that Darkstorm does summon though
19:57the Spell of Decay
19:58by what creeps,
19:59what crawls,
20:00by what does not.
20:01Let all that grows recede and rot.
20:04What's interesting though
20:05about Darkstorm's summon
20:06is that he actually does have
20:07a reverse summons for that too.
20:09But how good is that really going to be?
20:11When it comes though
20:12to the Darkling Lords
20:13and the Spectral Knights,
20:14they can only use the summons once
20:16before they have to again
20:17go back to Merklin
20:18and charge it up again.
20:19Now again,
20:20with this vehicle
20:21of the Capture Chariots,
20:23I did say in this review
20:24it probably took about
20:25three different
20:26separately purchased
20:27Capture Chariots
20:28to get the one
20:29that you're looking at right now.
20:30Usually though,
20:31as I mean,
20:32vintage collectors
20:33will tell you the same.
20:34It's not always just the case
20:35that you're going to be
20:35picking up one vehicle
20:36and then be happy
20:37to put that on the shelf.
20:39Like with the original one
20:40that I had,
20:40I remember having also
20:42very yellowed hover pods.
20:44So yellowed in fact
20:45that I really wanted to either
20:46try to find a way
20:47to bleach the plastic
20:48which sometimes collectors
20:49try to do
20:50or maybe source out
20:51at that time
20:52a better example
20:53of the Capture Chariot.
20:54Sure enough though,
20:55I did luck out.
20:56The second Capture Chariot
20:57did in fact have also a box.
20:59It had I think better,
21:00now that I look at it,
21:01it had better hovering pods.
21:03I think also the battering ram
21:05was a little bit better too.
21:06But with all,
21:07picking up all three of these,
21:08the ones,
21:08the three Capture Chariots
21:09that I had
21:10ended up getting,
21:11yielding the one
21:12that you're looking at right now.
21:14You know,
21:14in the end though,
21:15like at the time
21:16that I bought these,
21:17you're probably thinking to yourself,
21:17I meant you must have spent
21:18a fortune on these old vintage toys.
21:20Well, not really.
21:22Back when I would have been buying these,
21:24we're even again talking
21:25like 20, 25 years ago,
21:27nobody at that time
21:28was even interested
21:29in getting vintage toys.
21:30Like you could easily
21:31pick up stuff like this
21:32for a dime a dozen.
21:33At that time,
21:34I probably easily
21:35picked up a Capture Chariot.
21:36One of them at least,
21:37I think it probably paid
21:38like 30 bucks for.
21:39Even the one that was
21:40with the box,
21:41I ended up paying
21:41maybe 60 to 70.
21:43So it's certainly
21:44come a long way
21:45from what the prices
21:46of people are selling
21:47these things for.
21:48Now,
21:49vintage collectors
21:49know what they're selling
21:50and that's the reason
21:51why to get a mint version
21:54of this
21:54or even one
21:55that's in good condition,
21:56expect easily
21:57to pay
21:57100 to $150.
22:00If you guys
22:01have had the chance
22:01to pick this one up
