00:00 Good morning. Welcome to your first update of the day from the Met Office this Tuesday.
00:05 Some heavy downpours around again today, starting off in the southwest of England, a narrow
00:09 band of very heavy rain working its way from west to east. We do have a Met Office yellow
00:14 warning for thunderstorms because this band of rain will contain some intense downpours
00:19 and some gusty winds. Lightning could cause some problems as well as a lot of surface
00:23 water and spray on the road. So bear that in mind if you are just heading out the door
00:28 across southern counties. There will be showers elsewhere as well for parts of Scotland and
00:33 northern England. They will keep going on and off throughout the day. But for much of
00:36 the Midlands, Wales and by this afternoon southern England, we should see some decent
00:41 spells of sunshine and not too many showers here. Still quite breezy on the western coast
00:45 but further east the winds are certainly a lot lighter than they were yesterday. Temperatures
00:49 no higher however, mostly 8, 9, 10 Celsius across the north, maybe squeaking into the
00:55 teens further south, perhaps 14 with some sunny spells on the south coast this afternoon.
01:00 As we go through this evening we will see more showers coming into Northern Ireland,
01:04 moving in on a fairly brisk wind. Plenty more showers to come through the evening and overnight
01:08 across Scotland also and much of northern England. Southern half of the country, a few
01:13 scattered showers in the west but many places seeing some lengthy clear spells. A cooler
01:17 night as a result but still mostly holding up at 7 or 8 degrees Celsius. Perhaps in northern
01:23 Scotland with light winds, where we do see clear skies, we may see a touch of frost.
01:29 On to Wednesday and it will broadly be a case of sunshine and showers, certainly for Northern
01:33 Ireland initially. This line of showers could feed in into north west England and south
01:38 west Scotland for most of the day. But northern Scotland seeing some lengthy spells of sunshine,
01:43 it should turn drier for northern Ireland. And again for the Midlands, Wales, southern
01:46 England, many places here won't see many showers during tomorrow so a decent chance of a drier
01:51 day. The winds will be easing as well. Notice the wind starting to arch around a little
01:55 bit like this. That's because there's a brief ridge of high pressure trying to move in.
01:59 It won't do much for the temperatures though. Still single figures across the north, maybe
02:04 a little cooler further south. Even with some sunshine we could struggle to get up to 13
02:08 Celsius. But here's that little ridge I was talking about in the pressure pattern. Not
02:13 going to last too long but it will bring many places a fine end to Wednesday. Out west however,
02:18 we are keeping our eyes on this. A developing area of low pressure. Some question marks
02:23 about how intense this low gets and indeed how far north or how far south it gets. So
02:28 do keep up to date with the latest forecast. Alex Burkill has more on that low pressure
02:33 in the week ahead forecast. That's available on YouTube. And make sure that you hit subscribe
02:39 and then you'll never miss an update.
