10 May - National morning forecast presented by Honor Criswick.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good morning. Quite a cold start across parts of the north with a frost in
00:05places, particularly across Scotland, northern parts of England and Northern Ireland. And
00:09overall it is going to be a much cooler day for many. Why is this? Well, it's all thanks
00:14to high pressure. Currently set out towards the Atlantic and if we follow these winds
00:19round we can see it does bring in an easterly component to the wind across the south. Quite
00:23a fair few isobars on that chart as well. So an easterly wind is really going to add
00:27on to the chill of things across parts of the south. Not only this, but it also intensifies
00:32more of a northerly wind direction elsewhere across the country. So we're constantly dragging
00:37in some colder air from the north, adding on to the chill of the day. So for most it is
00:41going to be feeling much cooler than it did yesterday. But actually across Scotland, northern
00:46parts of England, there will be lots of dry weather to start the day, lots of sunshine
00:50out there. A bit more cloud across central parts of England, Wales, southern parts of
00:54England and this is going to be thick enough to produce some showers across the very
00:57far southeast. These showers might push slightly further northwards at times, maybe bringing
01:02in some rain across parts of London. But elsewhere, mostly dry, plenty of sunny spells by the
01:08afternoon. I'm afraid it's gradually turning more unsettled from Scotland as this rain drifts
01:13in from the north. This could actually be quite heavy at times across the northern isles.
01:16Now the difference for this afternoon, as I've already mentioned, it is going to be feeling
01:20that much cooler. Across the very far south we can see we're holding on to temperatures
01:25around 16 to 17 degrees, so not quite as cool here. But elsewhere, widely between 10 to 13
01:31degrees Celsius, so really feeling the chill here. And actually if you compare these temperatures
01:35to yesterday afternoon, there's a fair few areas that could be around 5 degrees lower compared
01:41to what we saw yesterday. But actually with less cloud around across eastern parts of Scotland,
01:46north east England, a touch warmer here. But nevertheless, it is going to be a cool day for most. It's
01:51starting to turn rather chilly through the overnight period as well once again. But this time actually
01:57across central and southern areas where we see the clearest skies for longest. This is
02:01where temperatures will soon dip away with a patchy frost in places. We've got this band
02:05of cloud and some showery outbreaks drifting its way southwards, so temperatures won't drop
02:09as low where a cloud sticks around. But as it clears Scotland, it could also be another
02:13cold night here. Probably not quite as cold as the night previous, but some patchy frost in
02:19places is certainly possible.
02:22Now for Monday, still this band of showery rain will sink its way southwards to the far
02:26north and south of this. Before any rain hits, there will be lots of dry weather and some
02:31sunshine. But into the afternoon as this area of rain sinks its way southwards, it will drag
02:36in more cloud and some showers at times. But once it clears, there will be plenty of dry
02:40weather and the return of some sunshine. But notice temperatures not too dissimilar to this
02:45afternoon, so still feeling quite cool, quite fresh at times. And quite a brisk northerly
02:50flow of air across eastern coast as well, which is also going to add on to the chill.
02:55And into next week, things are going to continue to feel rather cool and fresh at times. High
03:00pressure remains out towards the Atlantic, so we continue to see this northerly feed of
03:04air. And along with this, some fronts drifting in at times, so some rain and showers. There
03:09will be some brighter interludes at times. It's very much dependent on whereabouts you
03:13are, and it is going to remain rather cool into next week. But of course, for more updates
