10 May - National afternoon forecast presented by Kathryn Chalk.
Transcript
00:00Hello, it's cooler out there today, but for many there is sunny spells and then gardeners
00:06beware, there is a frost in places as we go through tonight. So a cooler air mass is in
00:11place, a ridge of high pressure generally extending across us today, but an area of
00:15low pressure will sink its way southwards as we go through tonight and into tomorrow
00:20and then we're still underneath another cooler air mass as we head through Monday and into
00:25Tuesday. But back to the rest of this afternoon then, we have got some showery outbreaks of rain
00:31just across the far south coast that might just skirt a little bit more northwards, but
00:36otherwise for the vast majority it is a day of sunny spells, feeling more pleasant where
00:41we've got more sunshine, especially across northeastern parts of England today, but wet
00:46and windy across Scotland where we have that area of low pressure. But otherwise we also
00:52have some stronger winds, so when exposed to that wind and underneath that cooler air mass,
00:57it's going to be feeling particularly chilly, especially across those eastern coasts, but
01:01hopefully feeling a little bit more pleasant where you've got the sunshine across northeastern
01:05parts of England. So temperatures ranging from 7 to possibly up to 17 or 18 degrees across
01:12the far south and west. Through this evening and overnight then, this low pressure will continue
01:18to skirt its way southward. So showery outbreaks of rain across Scotland into northern England,
01:25into Northern Ireland and eventually into Wales through the early hours. Behind that we might
01:29even see some wintry flurries just across the mountains in Scotland and then to the far south,
01:35that's where we hold on to clear spells. And here we could see temperatures fall away to give a touch
01:41of frost and likewise across Scotland with more of that northerly flow. We'll see a frost here to start
01:47the morning. Underneath this cloud cover though, temperatures generally holding up around 7 or 8
01:53degrees. So a chilly but bright star in between this frontal system, but otherwise this cloud and rain
02:00will continue to skirt its way southwards. So affecting much of Wales into the Midlands, into Southern England,
02:06as we head into the afternoon. Behind that though, many places actually seeing a good deal of sunshine
02:12as we go through Monday, but we hold on to northerly winds. So again, it's still feeling cool for the
02:18time
02:18of year, especially when exposed to that onshore flow in north and eastern areas. Temperatures around
02:247 to possibly up to 15 or 16 degrees in the far south. Through Monday evening, this cloud and rain
02:32will
02:32continue to slide its way southwards. So clearing most parts as we end the day and then many places
02:38inland seeing a good deal of clear spells before the next frontal system comes through. So again,
02:44a frost is possible as we start Tuesday. As we go through Tuesday, most places are seeing a better
02:50day. There will be a few spots of rain around, but as we go through Wednesday and Thursday, it's still
02:55going to be feeling cool out there. And actually, we're going to be more in a showery air mass through
02:59Wednesday and Thursday. Strongest winds confined to the west. But for more details on all of that,
