Google DeepMind just unveiled Genie 4, its newest AI world model. You describe a world in plain English, and it builds one you can move around in, in real time, now with sound.
In this video:

0:32 What is a world model?
1:19 What's new in Genie 4
2:35 Genie 3 vs Genie 4
3:09 What is it for?

What Genie 4 adds, per Google DeepMind and early reports:
- Real-time steering: type new instructions mid-simulation to change the weather, move the camera or add people and objects.
- More realism: better physics like aerodynamics and collisions, and much more convincing people.
- Native audio: DeepMind calls it the first real-time world model to generate audio natively, including wind, waves and character voices.
- A guiding brain: a Gemini 3.8 Flash agent watches the scene, breaks goals into steps and checks each new frame.
Genie 3 vs Genie 4: Genie 3 (August 2025) had no audio and more mechanical motion. TechCrunch reports Genie 4 keeps scenes consistent for up to two minutes, double its predecessor's limit.
Uses: training worlds for robots and AI agents (DeepMind showed Gemini 4 Argon planning steps for a simulated Apptronik Apollo humanoid playing checkers), draft scenes for filmmakers, explorable scenes from archival photos, and fast game prototypes.
Markets: Genie 3's Project Genie launch in January 2026 coincided with a sell-off in gaming stocks. This time, analysts quoted by Seeking Alpha largely dismissed the threat, with Wedbush calling Genie "a tool, not a competitor." Alphabet traded about 2% higher on October 27. Not investment advice.
Limits, per DeepMind: details can drift over time, and complex physics, accurate audio, readable text and long-term consistency are still being worked on. Every Genie 4 output carries an invisible SynthID watermark.
Availability: trusted testers first, then Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie, plus early-access partners on the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. Ars Technica notes API pricing has not been announced. There is a waitlist.
